The defunct Long John Silver had a long sad run/ ending but seriously you would think this is the only burger joint in town. The drive thru line was ridic.... I only eat burgers if I really have a taste for heartburn!!! Equals=not often.....but I did want to try this place out so I went with the next best thing...Fried jumbo shrimp. I was craving some good fried food when I came across Five Star Burgers menu. I saw that they had a good amount of fired favorites like; pickles, mushrooms, nuggets, okra, corn dogs, and shrimp to list a couple. I couldn't get them all so I started with corn dogs, mushrooms, and onion rings. I love freshly fried corn dogs and this place have em! The breading was crunchy, sweet, and savory. The dog seemed lean like chicken dog. I would preferred a juicer or fatty hotdog, but it was still good. The battered mushrooms were salted well and definitely satisfied the craving. Onion rings were also up to par with a crunchy breading. The staff was nice and the place wasn't busy so the service was fast. I will definitely come back for the other fried stuff.... maybe the pickles and the shrimp basket? May be a while till I try the burger but I will definitely keep you in the know! October 1, 2024, 10:21PM James I came in tonight less than an hour ago and ordered a chimichonga, 2 burgers and 2 Philly Cheese Streak Sandwiches with extra everything and onion rings I like onion rings more than a lot although usually I do not by get them because of the more than a few food joints that sale them they are greasy and or bland, it was my first time getting onion rings 5 Star Burger. The onion rings were not greasy at all which is a plus for me and the had a nice taste that I was barely able to enjoy because they were so badly scorched that I had to throw them into the garbage can. I got burgers for launch time tomorrow and Phyilly Cheese Steak Sandwiches for Dinner tonight. I have not eaten my burger yet but the other burger was enjoyed a lot, A+ for the none Western Burger. Not sure if this will make much sense to the person reading it but I ate my Phyilly Cheese Streak Sandwhich. It was plenty of meat and plenty of cheese, the meat and cheese turned out nicely, very flavorful cheese but because it was an incredibly small amount of vegetables it seemed overwhelmed with meat even though I wanted extra meat, it was the equivalent of having no vegetables at all. People usually ask for extra vegetables for 2 reason, they like the taste and or they like the taste but most importantly it helps their food to digest better especially when it is late at night near 10:00PM, even more so when it comes to grand beef. Literally the worst blt I've ever had. 2 pieces of greasy rubbery bacon and soggy bread and lettuce. I asked for extra avocado at the window and had already paid for my food when they said it would be $1 extra, so I said that's ok and I hear one of the other workers say 'oh you can't afford a dollar? it's too much?' I never review fast food places but making an exception here. Ok generally happy with food here particularly the fried fish basket. That being said I purchased a guacamole burger "combo" today with onion rings . The cost of the lunch was $13 plus for the "combo" and another $2.99 for the onion rings. Lunch ended up with taxes being over 18 freaking dollars. I can get two very fresh very good combo meals from the Habit or In and Out for $18 . Hubby and I tried this place a couple of times. First time was not so good as far as the food and that was due I g the pandemic. Earlier this year, we decided to try this place again and this time around it was a success! We went though the drive thru and hubby ordered the Big star combo w krinkle cut fries and for me the avocado cheeseburger combo with onion rings. Be prepared as there is a wait as they make the food once you order it. Everything was packaged up nicely for the drive home which is not far for us. Sorry I did not take pictures but trust me when I tell you it was all so good! It can even be compared to what Bud's Pattie's were it be past. My burger was good, my sons jalapeño burger was good. Third burger was good. My wife's order was not good. She wanted no cheese and no onions. The four stars this place has is spot on. There is A LOT on the menu, and what I've tried over a few visits has been (mostly) good. Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich: Not spicy at all, but tasty enough. Way too much mayo, but I just wiped it off. Fries: The best thing I've had there so far. Fresh, salty, crispy, and substantial. Fried Okra: Zero seasoning! This one was a disappointment. The texture was on point, but it just didn't taste like anything. Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Really, really good. Better than the crispy chicken sandwich, juicier and more flavorful. The line went out into the street but it moved timely enough that we didn't turn away. I got the #9 and it was pretty much what I expected. I'm not sure what I'd compare it to because it's not necessarily like a homemade burger but it doesn't taste super processed either. The crinkle cut fries are good without a doubt. Great midnight snack option! I was looking around for place with fried zucchinis. Don't judge me, I know it's a really strange craving but this place has it and they give a great amount too. I'm really happy that they also are open late because it's great hang over food lol. Their curly fries are also really delicious! I'm glad this place is nearby. The only redeeming item on the menu was the root beer float and let's be honest, for a few dollars more and a lot less time you could go up the street to A&W and get a better one that's larger; even if it's a 'small'. Clearly this was Vallejo's take on "5Guys" and it should be ashamed. This is just a bunch food you would order when you have the munchies and you don't know what you want. There is no one thing you want. It's what Pizza v. Burrito was aspiring to be except there is flavor in their items. The down side is, it just tastes like the didn't change the oil or clean the grill from when our beloved Long Johns was last here. Which brings me back to, WE LOST LONG JOHNS FOR HERE?? Why on earth for? This place at best is like a children's make believe kitchen where they just throw random food together and have a party after. I have been here twice and I can say that Vallejo Five Star Burger really does have its name right, because the burgers are the only thing that have a chance at being "five star". They offer a variety of sides and shakes that compared to the quality of the burgers, are lackluster. I do like the concept of the place with what it has to offer but the flavor just doesn't deliver. While the burgers here do taste good, everything else kind of puts a damper on the whole meal. So burgers get a thumbs up but everything else is meh. read more
