We stopped in here on a whim and it was comically disappointing. We walk in and see no employee's. A couple of lady's walk in and a heavy set one asks if there something she can help us with in what seemed to be annoyance with our presense or wasn't expecting anyone to actually patronize the business. lol. We let her know we there to eat and need a table for 2. We're told to pick anywhere inside or outside. The patio seating outside was really nice. We each order a beer, two different types, which both come out in a timely manner, but were competely flat. Like...completely. We start laughing and guessing at how long the kegs have been tapped and how they're staying in business if they can't sell their beer before this happens. They also bring out bread to start, not heated or anything, just some room temperature bread and hard as rock cold butter. The bread was good, but the couple extra seconds it would have taken to warm it would have made a world of difference. Our appetizer of calamari was cooked pretty well. The calamari was soft and the batter was crispy, but had no flavor. There was no seasoning whatsoever in that batter. My dinner was pretty good, my grilled scallops were cooked perfectly. The shrimp was overcooked and dry. The pasta these came with was pretty standard, nothing special. My boyfriends dinner was a combo plate of fried seafood and chips. The fries, he said, were in his top 30 (lol) and the best part of his plate. The batter on all the seafood was really heavy and thick. It was all piled on top of each other with the fish at the bottom. He couldn't finish the fish. It was soggy greasy and when he tried to eat the fish without the soggy batter, the fish itself was not good. He had a stomach ache the remainder of the evening. So, 2 completely flat beers, 1 flavorless appetizer, 1 horrible dinner and 1 mediocre dinner....for the bargain price of $100, not to mention that super special "non-cash" charge people have already mentioned. read more

Vallemar has been my go-to for a comfortable and comforting Sunday breakfast for decades. The food is simple, hearty, and affordable, as are the drinks. The staff are as unpretentious as the food and decor, and do their jobs well. I love the folksy decor that celebrates the history of sleepy Pacifica. It's like stepping back in time. Definitely an old school restaurant. Their authenticity is almost refreshing. Nice big bar when you enter and plenty of seating in the restaurant. Family friendly. They do a good job with the cleaning. Foods good, too. Everything was fresh!! The servers came around frequently to make sure we were doing alright and didn't need anything...it was very nice since at some other places we often find ourselves looking for our waiter, that was not the case at Vallemar Station. HIDDEN GEM! We received a gift card for Vallemar Station from a family friend who highly recommended it. Due to our infant child not being of restaurant going age yet, we opted to order our dinner for pick up. We are amazed by the quality of our meal, even after the 10 minute drive home. This was hands down the BEST NY Strip and Shrimp I've had in a while. Flavorful, juicy, perfect medium rare with excellent char from the grill. The Shrimp were cooked to perfection. The pan sauce the dish comes with pairs perfectly with both the Steak and Shrimp. My wife ordered the Prime Rib and the portion is simply MASSIVE. Tender, juicy and a nice medium rare. This place was horrible. We walked in and it automatically felt uncomfortable, awkward, and unwelcoming. The place was grim and empty despite being lunch time on a Saturday and the server seemed miserable. The other workers were just sitting around talking. The place felt dirty and one of the people I was with mentioned their glass for their water seemed dirty. We got the menus and the food was rather expensive. We asked about different foods and the ones we were most interested in were dinner only and were told we could only select from the lunch menu which consisted of really only burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, and some other things that didn't quiet catch my eye. Who seemed to be the owner pulled a chair near us and started telling us what their 'popular items' were. Me and my family tried to make it work and were discussing if we should stay or go, then were interrupted by who seemed to be the owner rushing us, telling us we need to order now because the only chef is going on break for an hour by the next 15 minutes. We began to become irritated, So I took one last look at the menu before the owner 'joked' "Picky eater huh?" at me, Which is rather rude and pissed me off, why would you make a comment at your customer, a complete stranger you know nothing about, like that? You know nothing about me. Who do you think you are to just nag like that? So we got fed up and left to go eat somewhere else. So, very uncomfortable/dirty atmosphere, rude, rushing, and seemingly lazy/careless worker, and overpriced food. Never returning. read more

The only reason there are five stars is because, I hate to admit it, but the dining room needs to be updated. I enjoy the food extremely at this restaurant, especially the spaghetti with meat sauce. You might think spaghetti? Well, as an honorary Italian baptized in cooking at the SFFD station 28 in North Beach, I know Italian cooking. This meat sauce on the spaghetti beat anything I've been able to cook or sampled in any fire house in the city and that is saying something. you might not know this but in the fire department fire fighting is second only to cooking, food is what is of the most importance, sorry folks. another great item is the teriyaki skirt steak and their prime rib they do serve a brunch that is very good, but I've only been to a couple times because it's only on the weekends. I really hope people try this place for themselves, if you're not going to the bar walk past the bar, and remember that bars have bar smells. If you don't like the dated decor, they have outdoor seating too. And, you can always just grab your food and go to the beach across the street and have a gourmet picnic. A note on their prices, they kept their prices low longer than any restaurant anywhere that I know of. People have to understand that a shut down of the economy for almost 4 years created supply chain breakages and failures that are having consequences in the area of supply and demand and causing inflation that is being unabated by our bickering politicians. So complain to your congressman about prices and not to the restaurant what's important is that you are getting exceptional home cooked food here, and you should get it while you can because nothing lasts forever. read more

I am sorry, but this used to be a staple of dining in the city of Pacifica. Once also hosted live music on the weekends. The building is looking a little shabby with old signage and peeling paint. The family members that work there look tired. The menu is tired. Perhaps, the pandemic caused or contributed to the decline here. I won't say I will never eat here again but it's no longer the first place I think of to eat here. read more

Friday night karaoke at Vallemar. During the day, it's a steakhouse (something I've totally got to try). Locals atmosphere but don't let that stop you. Put your name on the karaoke list and if you're lucky and the crowd knows the song, they're likely to sing along! You'll be a super star, even if it's only on Friday nights at this place and in you head. Karaoke translates to "off key", so don't be shy. The list can get a little long so put your name and song in early. If you stop by on a Friday night, look for me or my cousin (he'll be on the mic singing Friends in Low Places or something like that. Lol.) and sit a spell. I waited three weeks to write this review. I don't like posting things that could hurt a small business, especially given the current situation, but I also believe that you should get what you pay for. On the night in question, I called ahead and ordered. It's the second time I've gone to pick up take out. There were people drinking in the bar with no masks. The lady behind the bar seemed bothered I was there. I tried to stay positive but it left me wondering if they are ignoring COVID protocols, what other health and safety items are they skipping out on in the back. When I called in I had to repeat my order three times and it was pretty simple, a steak mid rare, peppercorn sauce, BAKED Potato and veggies. I was pretty excited about this meal because I haven't had a steak in ages. :( When I got home my NY Strip had so much gristle it was hard to cut and even harder to chew, my baked potato was mashed potatoes which would have been disappointing but manageable if they were good. Unfortunately they were cold as if they sat on the counter gluey and unseasoned. And the veg .... I realize few people go to a steakhouse expecting stellar veggies... but hot, fresh, and seasoned isn't much to ask. They were cold, frozen (based on texture I think so) and lacking in any flavor. My entire meal went into the garbage and it was close to $40 by the time tax and tip were added. I don't want anyone else to be disappointed. read more

Beer(s) O'clock with Guy #2 Best fuckin' seasoned fries I have ever had was at this place 5 hours ago! We decided to meet up at 3:22pm, because we were tired of sleeping in and the weather was pretty crazy -- rainy and windy! Also, we were both restless and bored, plus we wanted to spend some quality time together. He is really good about taking me to bars that I have never been to before and today was no exception. Valleymar Station is so cool, probably one of the best bar in Pacifica. I loved that it's family owned (wife and daughter are bartenders / waitresses and husband is the head chef). Everyone at the bar probably were all local except for me which was kind weird at first, but I felt right at home with the nice, friendly service. We enjoyed a pint each at the bar and other round by the fireplace. It was very difficult for us to finish our second pint of Bass Pale Ale without falling asleep. We wondered why we felt sleepy drinking in the afternoon. The fireplace was great, we babysat our beers as we sunk back in our chairs while he caressed my legs -- so cozy and relaxing. I totally loved it! 10 Television screens total (2 big screens at the bar and dinning room, but there's also a television outside in the patio). A few beers on tap, a vintage cash register, antibactirial lotion soap in the bathroom and various framed pictures on the wall... what more can you ask for? We were looking for a place that served drinks, had more than 3 TVs and could offer some decent food as well. Vallemar Station ended up to be fairly good, some things better than others. We were joking with the other staff about having to eat with the cocktail fork. The Managing bartender, as he called himself, was a nice guy too. They didn't mind us camping out for just about the entire baseball and football games. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and the place wasn't packed, which was nice. We decided to grab a table outside as one of the members of our group had a preference to sit in the back. However, over the next couple of hours it cooled down a lot to the point where we were all freezing and when we asked the staff to turn on one of the many heat lamps/fireplaces they have in the back, they said that none of them worked. That should be fixed. I didn't have high expectations for the food here, but I was actually very impressed with the quality of our meal. I got an order of the grilled scallops and prawns angel hair pasta. I was expecting this to be a white sauce but it came out in a red sauce, which at first I was a little disappointed with but when I tried the dish, it was super tasty and the sauce had really good flavor and tasted fresh, so I ended up being really happy with the dish. The other dish I had been considering was the Basa, which one of the other members of our group got. I tried a bite of the fish, which is crusted lightly with breadcrumbs and is topped with macadamia nuts and it was super delicious. I'd probably get that the next time I come back. While the ambience is not anything special being that Vallemar Station has been around for years and it shows within the establishment, the food and service are spot on and I would recommend making a stop in here the next time you're passing through Pacifica. read more

Our trio GNO we decided to keep it local. My girlfriend and I ordered the Cajun Catfish, and our other friend ordered the Jumbo Prawn entrée. Our dinner was fair. The catfish came with creamed spinach which lacked flavor. The interior is dated but cozy. There are many regulars at this restaurant, which speaks to the loyalty they have built up over the years. I'm sad to see the poor reviews and at least one claim of racism...not cool. Maybe you got bad service that day, but come on now, it doesn't mean they're racist. I'm a brownie (sweet and brown), and I have never felt out of place or mistreated there. I love Vallemar Station, we usually come about once a month. I don't eat out often. The only other places I go more frequently than that is Safeway and Grocery Outlet. So that says a lot. When I'm at Vallemar, I feel like I'm eating dinner at grandma Cybill's. She had the same tacky rustic decor, that I just love! And she always served up hearty meals. There's such a feeling of comfort and family. Everything we have ever ordered at Vallemar has been hot and delicious. All the servers there are real nice. On this past Mother's Day weekend I had the boneless ribeye, baked potato and side of steamed veggies...ribeye had the perfect char grill marks, I slathered ALL the creamed butter into the steamy hot potato, and veggies were steamed perfectly too, not soggy and overdone. My dinner was sooooo good, I ate the WHOLE thing. And I am notorious for bringing home a doggy bag because I can never finish my food. But the ribeye was so good, I couldn't stop. I didn't care if I had to be rolled out of there. I've also had the prime rib (which is a huge portion), New York steak, chicken piccata, pot roast (one of my faves), Cajun catfish (another fave), meatloaf, spaghetti and meatballs, sweet potato fries. We ordered over the phone and picked up food for dinner at home. Our first time trying their food. My husband had a hamburger - which he said was tasty. His only complaint was that it needed mayonnaise. We were at home so he was able to add that no problem. I ordered the nightly special - short ribs. It was spot on, and highly recommended.
