I showed up as a new patient only 15 minutes early but was able to complete all paperwork in 15 minutes. Front staff was pleasant. I'm VERY impressed with Dr. Richardson - she looked down my throat (never fun) with her scope and was able to see a part of my throat that my previous ENT (from a different place) was not able to see. If I could give this place a zero I would. Every appointment we have had, we show up on time and then sit in the waiting room for 30-45 min. Then when we do get called back we wait again. At my daughters appointment today (3:30pm), I asked the receptionist at 4:05pm when we would be going back. She told me it would be another 15 minutes before we would even get called back. When I asked why they don't schedule accordingly the receptionist tried to be professional but came across very snarky told me that their doctors run behind because they give each patient the right amount of time and people ask questions and they doctor gives the appropriate amount of time needed to answer the questions. THEN SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY. It is so disrespectful to your patients to make us show up and then sit there and wait. I can understand if this happens one time, but it has happened every time we have had to come to our daughters check ups. It is now 4:30 and we still haven't been seen.... Finally, don't expect to call and get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. I cant ever get my daughters 4 month check ups schedule when they are 4 months out. Hire more doctors or do something different because what you are doing is horrible customer service. After we get our tubes removed from our daughters ears we will never be coming back to this facility. Absolutely disrespectful and such a waste of time sitting there waiting for the doctor to be done. Like I said...schedule accordingly!!!! read more

First of all the Dr. was great. He he is very professional. The office people on the other hand are a complete wast of time. And because of them I will never be back. After 4 months they have not bother to contact me for the results of some testing that I needed done. What makes matter worst I spoke to them on the cost of the testing. If they had told me that the testing people are a separate company and that they did not know the cost, that answer would have been acceptable and honest. But instead they insisted it would be a $40.00 cost. I ask this office three different times to make sure that was the only cost of the testing. Now I have a bill for $615.00. When I spoke to the office manager about this she told me I was wrong and tough luck. This is my first review anywhere. I was referred me to Valley ENT and James Chuang to determine possible cause of my hearing loss and possible treatment options. Chuang was very arrogant, condescending, and persistently repeated the same questions over and over. He has terrible bedside manner, no empathy, treats you like you're dumb. I was very irritated by this behavior. He must've seen how irritated I was because he said, 'I'm repeating the questions because I just want to be sure I understand.' After his questions, he informs me that he's going to perform a "Poor man's hearing test." He took a metal prong, strikes it, and asks me on which side I heard more clearly, the left or right (ear). I remember being annoyed, and thinking, "That's it, that's the extent of the testing this ENT doctor is performing?" He then announced I wasn't a candidate for surgery. He saw my expression, and said, "I can tell you 're not happy.' 'I responded, No, I'm not.' Incredulously, this man then says, :You're going to have to accept it.' I could not believe how cold and unfeeling he was. This happened in the exam room, never saw their Audiology Department. He then asked whether I wanted to have the Audiology Dep fit me for Hearing Aid or if I preferred to go somewhere else? I told him I'd prefer to go elsewhere. Have me a referral, I left his office, feeling underwhelmed, very dissatisfied. It was a waste of time and money. Then I got the bill. I immediately noticed Valley ENT submitted a claim for a Tympanometry. I didn't recognize the test, didn't know how it was performed, and recalled Chuang performed his "Poor man's hearing test" so I called the office and enquired how this Tympanometry is performed. I was told the office manager would call me back. So, Linda called and I posed the question to her. She said, 'we insert a probe in the war and we do a pressure test.' At that point I said to her, 'That's not the rest he performed. He did what he called 'A poor man's Tympanometry, he strikes this metal thing, asked me on which side I heard louder". Linda said, 'It's in your medal record.' I said, 'I don't care what's in the record, the rest you just described to me is not a what he performed.' She then said she would speak to Chuang. Chuang and Linda ,ailed me a written response, in which Linda says I was upset because she (Linda) did not believe me. Chuang admits in the response that he performs this 'Poor man's hearing year's and describes it, as I did. He even says it's 'not" the same test as a Tympanometry. But, he claims the test was not done at my Insurer's Audiology, 'I needed the test, and got the test.' His office even created a graph showing the functioning in both ears, but never performed a" formal" test. Can you obtain numerical data from striking a metal prong, and asking me which side was louder? How did they get data to plot a graph? I'll tell you.. From the tests I did previously! That's why Linda says, 'It's in your medical record.' I disputed the Bill with my Insurance company, they sided have with Chuang. Filed a complaint with the Arizona Medical Board, no luck there! A woman told me, "we weren't in the room.' My response was, "exactly, you weren't, but you choose to believe him. And why is that? Because he has an M.D. behind his name." So, I paid the bill, and excluded the cost of the Tympanometry. They continue to send the bill for the Tympanometry. The reality is these medical people submits claims for services they don't perform, and the burden of proof is on we, the public, to prove they did not. Don't expect your Insurance Company or the Medical Board to intervene, you're on your own. Had I read reviews about Valley ENT and James Chuang in particular, BEFORE that appointment, I would NOT have gone to Valley ENT. Ironically, a family member's Dr. referred him to Valley ENT after my experience; I told the office, 'Hell no, refer us to another ENT Specialist!' read more

This practice is a fraud. They charged my insurance over $300 and the doctor spent less than 5 minutes with me, never touched me, was supposed to get test from another office for me and call me back and never did. I called back several times and they said they had them but they never called me back. I reported them to my insurance company and told them they should remove this practice for not following through, malpractice issues and poor follow through. I will not be paying my copay with them. I went to another doctor and anyone else should go to another practice too. I am a former healthcare worker and I can see that they are very mismanaged. read more

I don't know where to start. I have been bringing my two sons to this office for about a year and a half. Both had to have your tubes put in. One had to have them put in a second time. We chose Dr. McKenna. The surgeries went well. And follow up visits were always scheduled. On multiple, and by multiple I mean about 5-10 occasions over the past year and a half, when my sons would have discharge from their ears, I would call Dr. McKenna's office to get ear drops, and to also schedule visits for her check ups. After they are on eardrops, they are apparently supposed to see a doctor two weeks after. Every single time I called to schedule one of these appointments, I was told that Dr. McKenna had no appointments for several months. Every time I tried to schedule with either an assistant or another doctor, they would not let me, saying that I would have to see Dr. McKenna, and that no one else could, it was an office policy. I just had to call today to reschedule my sons four month check up (after one had his second tubes placed, and a general one for the other. I was told the next availability was in February. That is FOUR months away. Effectively changing a four month check up to an eight month check up. And was also told again that my sons could not see another person. On a couple occasions, when we did get into see Dr. McKenna, the waits to see him were horrendous. One wait in the doctors office was two hours. The doctor was two hours behind. I have twin toddlers... how am I supposed to be confined in a dr office waiting for TWO hours?! And they say that they make every effort to tell you if the doctor is running late. They never made any effort to tell me until I got to the office to find out that he was running late. When I got to the office they told me he was running 45 minutes late. And it ended up being TWO hours. I don't know if he has too many patients, or if the office is not managed well, but The bottom line is that they do not care about their patients. Do not make every effort to help their patients. And after you have surgery, they don't care about getting you in for follow up appointments. That is not important to the doctor or to the office. I would go somewhere else! read more

Dr. McKenna is a great doctor but its not worth dealing with the front office. We had to wait on 3 different occasions over an hour after our appt time because the doctor was running late (no exaggeration). We were patient and understanding. However, that patience wasnt returned today. My appointment was canceled because I wasnt there a half hour early. Keep in mind I called and my arrival wasnt late. I'd still be 15 minutes early!!!! The staff stated there was nothing they could do. She was rude and annoyed. Overall the office is completely hypocritical about time. There are other great doctors out there so we're going to find one that actually treats their patients with respect. I have no idea how people continue to go there when they have a track record for mismanagement of appointments and no customer service. read more

We recently had the opportunity to work with Dr. McKenna for bout 6 year old. After a trio to the ER we were referred to Valley ENT for possible Tonsil removal. We ended up scheduling the surgery in a rush to get it done before years end. The office staff was incredibly helpful dealing with insurance, and surgery centers. Dr. McKenna had a way with kids. He had my boy laughing, smiling, and at ease for the surgery to come. Even after surgery my boy was excited to go back and say hi. Even gave his post surgery visit nurse a huge hug and a thank you. read more

I should've taken these reviews more seriously. I'm a benefit of a doubt kind of person, I decided to give his place a go. Scheduling was two weeks out. I decided to wait b/c I was waiting to see if my issue got better. My throat was burning but I wasn't sure if it was acid reflux or sinus/allergies. After a few days my throat was better but I decided to keep the appt. just to be sure everything was okay. About an hr before my appt. I received a call that Dr. had an emergency and needed to reschedule. I was irritated but fine. They said they'd squeeze me in for Monday at 1:30, if I could fill out my paperwork I didn't have to check in as early. Of course I filled out my paperwork before I went and arrived about 1:25. When I arrived they said I was "supposed" to check in at 1. Mmmm I was "supposed" to be seen last week. She went to check in with Dr. and they came back with they'll try to squeeze me in between appts. Nah, no thanks! This is very unprofessional and I'd like the $50 surcharge for my cancelled appt. as they did not meet my 24 hrs cancellation policy. This is NOT a best practice method. Please Read Before You Go To This Office: There is a definite pattern of behavior by the office staff and doctors by all of the post I have been reading. I just wish I would of read the reviews of this place before wasting 6 weeks of my time & being in constant pain. I was referred by my primary care doctor. My first visit was with Dr. Chuang, when he came into the room and I tried to explain what was going on with my tongue he would barely let me finish a sentence. He said he thought it was Sjogren. From my symptoms I really didn't think that i had Sjogren. A week later I made another appointment and saw Dr. Alison in the same office. He sent me over that day to get blood test. I waited two weeks for the blood test called several times and they kept telling me that the results were not in. I thought it was very strange that it would take so long for a blood test. I later found out after receiving my records that the results were in that same day . I have the records to prove they were lying. The office said they forgot to call me. I asked them about the test for burning mouth syndrome that Dr. Alison and I had discussed. Agnes Dr. Allison's assistant said that he had not ordered that test for me. I again went and had another test on 19 November for burning mouth syndrome and some other bloodwork the doctor had sent me to Sonora quest lab for. I called the office explaining to them I am in major pain & left two messages that they never bothered to call me back. I went in to the office exactly 3 weeks from the day I had my second test to find out if they received my phone calls , they again had another excuse that they have been having phone problems. They said they would call me the next day. Today December 11, 2019 they finally called me to tell me that I did not have Sjogren's, I said I know that you told me those results three weeks ago. I was tested for Burning mouth. Then the lady says oh well you don't have that either. I asked her what do I do next I'm in so much pain? she said there's nothing else we can do for you. We think it would be best if you get a second opinion elsewhere. I have never been to a doctor that does two blood test and just tells me to go somewhere else. You can't help me anymore? Isn't this what a specialist is supposed to do, help you in figuring what's wrong? You can see that my tongue is very raw and has soars on it. I find it hard to believe that there is not more test or even a biopsy to help me. I have never felt so lied to or disposed by a doctor. I picked all of my records & blood results today. The 2nd set of blood work I have been waiting 3 weeks to the day for the results, they kept telling me were not in ( since November 19).It shows clearly they have known the results since the 25th of November. They AGAIN lied. Please, Please stay away from this place it is scary how bad they are . I will be calling the medical board on them. read more

Awful. I had a tonsillectomy and the whole procedure from start to finish I was treated with rudeness and callousness when I had questions or concerns. The receptionist Becky in particular was vicious and argumentative when I expressed concern that no doctor in the whole practice could look at my throat to give the go ahead to eat solid food after 16 days...I had to go to urgent care to have a doctor look at my throat. That's how incompetent they are and they blame their incompetence on you, the patient. Truly a horrific experience. read more

Dr Chuang has terrible bedside manners. I don't believe he listens or understands. He does not explain what he is doing to you prior to an exam. He's condescending and smug. would never go back here again. Update: I received a message from valley ent regarding this review and asking that I contact their office manager. That was the first thing I did when I left the appointment that day. She was nice and apologized for the poor treatment by Dr Chuang, but that is it. Saw Dr. Chuang at Valley ENT. The wait times are indeed long but once you see the doctor, you can see why. Dr. Chuang was knowledgeable and patient. Before he stepped into the room, he read the files and knew already what was to be expected. During the visit, he explained everything in detail and answered any questions I had. After the visit, when I was making followup appointments, Dr. Chuang was busy making notes on the computer before he went tot he next patient. That being said, it would be nice if I knew the doctor was running late, the office staff call/text me so that I don't wait in the office for 90 minutes like some people had to. read more

I was referred to Dr. McKenna a few years back regarding a sinus condition. Dr. McKenna is a great doctor and person but the negative comments here regarding wait times are accurate. The fastest I've ever been seen for a scheduled appointment is 45 minutes later than the time scheduled and I've often waited in excess of an hour. This happens every time; it's not an aberration. Visits are scheduled during the day so I'm losing time from work. My visit today was already an hour behind when I walked out - in part to avoid getting stuck in rush hour traffic on my drive back to Gilbert and in part for the strong message this office sends to it's patients that their time is not respected. The wait time is ridiculous, so busy one tech will look in your ears outside in the waiting area, I guess they over book patients. I have never seen anything like it. To top if off they had my husband come in to see the audiologists and get a pair of hearing aides to try, not telling him that with his insurance he could go to his insurance carrier that has an audiologists, and that his insurance would allow for 600.00 off. Understandable that doctors run a few minutes late but the office should be considerate and call patients to let them know they are running 45 minutes behind (even though it's been over an hour), if a patient was that late you'd be charged a fee and rescheduled. Lack of consideration for their patients in this aspect but haven't even made it to the back side of the office to review actual patient care. Still waiting.... spoke to receptionist who stated that we will see you when we can (it is now 5:36pm) the doctor is very thorough with each patient and she deals with this everyday. AVOID!!! I went to Valley ENT due to horrific allergy symptoms including difficulty breathing and coughing. Dr. Tennyson seemed more concerned with prescribing me as many meds as possible, instead of determining the root of the problem. In addition, they sent my medications to the wrong pharmacy chain and when I called to determine what happened they gave me an address to a Walgreens that didn't exist. I literally filled out a form with my pharmacy information when I filled out my paperwork and reaffirmed it during the visit with the doctor. I don't trust my allergy panels will actually happen because they couldn't handle something so simple. read more

Completely agree with the other reviews here. My experience with the doctor support staff has been horrible to say the least. First they don't tell me that my son's procedure was moved by 2 hours on the last day even after I called them up myself to check on this. So, we reached the surgery center with my half asleep son at 5:45 AM only to be told to come an hour later and making sure he does not drink anything for another couple of hours, else no surgery. They were "sorry" about lack of communication. A few weeks later my son gets an ear infection and the medical assistant on the phone said that I need to give him 14 days of antibiotics. I call up again to let them check with the doctor. Came back saying, doctor said so and if you don't complete the dosage, child will lose the efficacy of antibiotic. I pleaded that it is not heard to give such a long dosage. 2 weeks later when I met doctor he said that I should have taken only 7 days, the rest was for a second dosage in future. How ridiculous that the medical assistant could not talk with the doctor to calibrate further. I am very, very hesitant to recommend this doctor or office to any of my friends. I am sure there are better places. read more

I would like to recognize the following staff for their excellent outstanding patient medical services that they have provided to me on an ongoing basis. They are also very professional , knowledgeable , caring , friendly , and flexible for patients medical needs. Valley ENT are excellent. The staff I specifically want to recognize are the following. Dr. McKenna , Sara-medical assistant , Valerie -medical assistant , Angel-medical assistant , Corina-medical assistant , and Karen-scheduler. Two of many specific examples of excellent patient service are that the doctor is willing to see me on an upcoming Saturday for post surgery follow up appt. because of my difficult tight schedule and also the day after my adenoidectomy surgery- specifically Valerie-medical assistant and Dr. McKenna went above and beyond to quickly care for me over the phone to provide me with peace and mind about my worry of infection and they promptly called in oral antibiotics to pharmacy upon my request. They also thoroughly answered all my medical questions and concerns in regards to my post surgery. Thanks again to staff. read more

My son has had multiple ear infections in a year after starting daycare. Dr McKenna was great at explaining why and how to overCome it by placing tubes. He explained the surgery in a way that you left feeling comfortable with him and confident that he was going to do the best thing for your little one. His staff was top notch. read more

This is my second visit to this office and the service is very unprofessional. They tell me to come in 15 minutes before my appointment and the doctor is running 40 minutes late. When I had my first appointment it was the same story. On top of that there are two front desk clerks, one is very nice, the other one should not be in that position. She is very impolite. Like I said my second experience with her. People have jobs and take and time, sometimes their lunch time to come to the doctor. For a provider to be 40 minutes late every time is poor time management time on himself and his staff. Dr. Chuang is very knowledgeable but having to wait around 40 minutes past an appointment time to be seen is not worth it. As someone who's been a medical office manager, I would never let my doctors disrespect patients time like this. Once in a while that a provider runs 5, even 15 minutes late it's understandable but 40 minutes and twice already, very poor time management and a total disregard for the patients time that is as important as the doctors. read more

I have no comment on Dr. Chung's work as a doctor. He may very well be an excellent ENT Doctor but, because of the admin he uses, I will never know. I had an appointment scheduled. I showed up 10 minutes early because, every Doctor you see nowadays has a bunch of paperwork. The receptionist told me we needed to reschedule, because I needed to be 30 minutes early..... The person that made the original appointment did not inform me of that. When scheduling, I asked her if I would get an email or a text confirmation. She said no. Apparently, I got a phone call confirming the appointment that gave these instructions but I have no recollection of that. Mistakes happen, sure but they should have been more diligent in making sure the clients know exactly what is expected of them, like most other health care providers. An email or text confirmation is not too much to ask. The receptionist gave me the "tough s**t" attitude and started looking for another appointment. I will not allow a doctor's office the privilege of billing my insurance company if they do not respect my time. read more

First time visiting this office for a routine allergy visit. I was told by the nurse that the doctor would have to exam my nasal passages but I had to sign some papers allowing permission. Not realizing this wasn't apart of a regular visit until I get a $350.00 bill. I would have greatly appreciate being told that looking into my nasal passage is consider a "In office patient procedure" and that I would be billed as a "surgical procedure". My first ever experience at any ENT. Took my 10 yr old daughter here bc of constant ear pain and ear infections. We were barely seen for ten minutes. Dr. Allison looked in her ears briefly, cleaned out wax without warning, and not gently at all. We discussed her history of infections and that she swims a lot and uses ear plugs but always has pain after swimming. Told us to go get a measurement with the audiologist, without explaining what we were doing. After that was done we came back to the Dr. Allison, where he said her reading was fine. (Still didn't even explain what the test even was!!) I asked why she was having pain... his response- shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't have any idea." That was it!! Didn't ask her where the pain was, BARELY looked in her ears. Told us he's give us his nurse's card and to call if she had bad pain... I thought that this was the place to for help when we don't know how to help her. I thought he might explain how the ear is designed, what may cause diff pain, and come up with a plan. We walked away frustrated and even more confused than before. read more

Horrible experience at the Chandler location! Saw McKenna years ago to remove an ear blockage, thought it was going to be done by an assistant as usual. After getting an appointment confirmation by their office, I arrived only to be told I was WRONG, the appointment was for the next day. Not according to their recorded message! Return the next day and the usual: show up 1/2 hour before the appointment, fill out paperwork. Why? So you can sit there for an extra 1/2 hour after your scheduled appointment. Naturally. Met a Dr. Chang (sp.?), who has all the sincerity of a used car salesman. Blockage removal? Naaaa.....let's start with a barrage of tests and a HARD SELL for hearing aids. Then, let's cool our heels in yet another room until I finally fell asleep waiting for this "analysis". The final straw? When the good doktor returned to find me napping and I mentioned that I could fall asleep anywhere, anytime. His eyes lit up and asked, "That could be an indication of a very serious problem. How long has this been going on?" My answer: Fifty. Five. Years. Never again. read more

Dr. McKenna is always great and I must also compliment two more team members, Dr. Allison and medical assistant, Agnes. Last week my sinus passages were really hurting, so I called to see if I could get in with Dr. McKenna but he was out of the office that week, so the nice receptionist offered me several appointment openings with Dr. Allison. It was great that several openings were offered to me right off the bat. I booked an appointment on Friday. By Wednesday, my sinuses felt worse, so I called to ask if I could come sooner and they got me in a day earlier with Dr. Allison. Dr. Allison was responsive, listened to my concerns and discussed a prompt treatment plan with me. His medical assistant was equally terrific. That afternoon, after my appointment, I became concerned with a few potential side effects of the antibiotic that I was to start taking the next day. Soon before the office would close for the day, I called Agnes (who by the way always picks up or if I have to leave a voicemail she calls back right away) and discussed my concerns with her. She was a great listener and told me that she would message Dr. Allison and I would hear back the next day about the meds. I was SO plesantly surprised to receive a text message that same evening (it was around 6:45pm) with a text that a different med had been called in to my pharmacy. Wow! I didn't have to wait until the next day, both the doctor and Agnes had really listened to me and I was taken care of that same day, even after hours. I wish every physician's office was this responsive, thorough and caring. SO happy to continue my treatment with Valley ENT and to recommend to others. Wonderful place! read more

I had the most pleasant experience today with Valley ENT that began with my first phone call to schedule an appointment. I spoke to the friendliest, most helpful woman to whom I am incredibly grateful for going out of her way to accommodate our needs. We waited about 45 minutes to see Dr McKenna, which was totally expected. The staff was kid friendly, and did not seem irritated by my hyperactive nine year old son (who told them I was not wearing underwear, which was totally untrue)... Dr McKenna was awesome with my son who said "he was nice" when we left. He NEVER does that. Dr McKenna spoke tomy son, picked up on it when my son's anxiety spiked, and was quick to diffuse it with logic and compassion. It can't be easy explaining a tonsillectomy to a 9 year old, but Dr McKenna did. There were people griping about the facility in the waiting room, but they were crabby when they walked in. I wouldn't change anything about our experience, and I would highly recommend Dr McKenna to a friend. Update: my son had his tonsils removed yesterday, and if I could give Dr McKenna ten stars, I would. Five is not enough. Before surgery, we were all a nervous wreck, especially my son, John. Dr McKenna sat with us for 20 minutes easing our fears and making John comfortable. He didn't want to force John to do something he was uncomfortable with. After the surgery, Dr McKenna spoke to my husband and me for 20 minutes because he wasn't going to leave without ensuring we had all the info we needed to care for his patient. The nurses at the surgery center were getting ready to release us, then realized we were Dr McKenna's patient, and we had to stay longer because he keeps his patients longer than other doctors. We were there long enough for John to get an entire bag of IV fluids, and I honestly believe those extra fluids saved us a trip to the ER today for dehydration. I had a great experience with this Chandler location. They were able to get me in a early morning appointment. The staff was very friendly in answering my questions over the phone when setting up the appointment. Dr. Chuang was great. He took time in listening to me and providing me detailed information on what could be causing my ear swooshing sound. I had a hearing test done at the same appointment. And I left feeling confident that I was be treated according to what my symptoms were. I definitely recommend this Specialist. I came here because my first experience with another ENT outside Valley ENT was horrible. I'm so glad I decided to get a second opinion with Dr Chuang. read more
