I would like to leave an actual in depth review of the services that Valley hearing center provides. However, I'm not able to. My husband and I are both in our 70s and have gotten to that age where we need a hearing evaluation and possibly some type of hearing aid. As long time residents of Salinas, my husband was familiar with the center through reputation and really wanted to go here and give them our business. However, apparently they're not interested in our business. My husband emailed them twice with no response and I have called and left detailed messages with no response after weeks of waiting. I guess they're not taking new patients or they're just not interested in getting new patients or what? If you want the business, you have to respond to the request for care. read more

I came to Valley Hearing for a free screening. I knew I needed help. But first I had to go the cheap way and purchase hearing aids over the internet. Big mistake. They were horrible. So I went back to Valley Hearing and again met with Megan. She worked with me and my budget and put me in some fantastic hearing aids. There was really no adjustment period. I am a long time patient of Larry and I do appreciate his help over the years since I was younger. I wish I could say better things. But I came to this office all the way from Monterey because the usual office I go to in Monterey closes when I get off work. I needed wax filters urgently since I used them all up. And I need them for work as obviously you can't hear if your hearing aids are plugged up. The front desk ladies were being rude about me coming in 30 minutes before closing. they wanted me to come in during "walk in hours" and I'm like well I work during your walk in hours and i just drove here from Monterey and i really need it like asap. I wouldn't be coming if it wasn't an emergency. They're just like just call so we can them ready and gave me a stank face but it took them 2 seconds to grab the wax filters from their desk and didn't have to leave their chair. I just thought it was unprofessional as a patient there who desperately needs this as all the other patients who also go there and also have hearing needs. I do miss Larry's old staff they were amazing and always accommodate me. I will be sticking to the Monterey office since the staff there is great. read more

I'm 82 years young. I am a Vietnam era veteran of 5 years with 35 years of law enforcement service. Twelve of those years were spent with the Department of Justice with mission service overseas in the mideast, Jordan, Pakistan and Iraq as examples. Unfortunately that service contributed to my hearing loss which at best is terrible. Without hearing aids nothing is audible in my right ear with the exception of extreme loud noises. the left ear I can hear people speak but can't always understand them. The V.A. provides the best hearing aids possible every 4 years. Simplistic tuneups can be handled at the VA in Palo Alto a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. More serious maintenance requires them to be sent out of state with a return time estimated at between 3 and 4 weeks. My left aid required major maintenance and had to be shipped off. The VA offers no loaners and I had no back ups. I was not able to verbally communicate on my phone. The sounds were completly distorted. Normal one on one communication was met with the proverbial Hugh? Or, I cant understand you. I was getting stressed and very frustrated. I felt alone and helpless with no control over the circumstances. That is until I had recommended to me the Valley Hearing Center In Salinas. I was greeted by the office staff who were all very friendly yet professional. This is not just superficial these ladies are for real and bend over backwards to assist you anyway they can. Then I met one of the Doctors, Dr. Megan Felthoven. Her demeanor was like that of her staff. I explained my dilemma. She said she was familiar with the VA procedures and in fact had a program designed for Veterans that offered loaner hearing aids, complete servicing of VA issued hearing aids for the life if those issued hearing aids for a minimal payment. It was more than reasonable and I agreed. She has seen me 3 times within the first week establishing the set up and adjustments necessary for these loaner hearing aids. She is a perfectionist and establishes a trusting professional bond with her patients. These loaners are not the high end quality provided by the VA but she has them so dialed in that they are in fuct functioning better than my VA issued hearing aids and that I attribute to her expertise and her desire of perfection and improving her patients quality of life. This lady and her staff has knocked it out of the ball park for this ole boy. They provide quality , consistency and service. A rarity in today's society read more

I came here to get my mom's hearing aids repaired. Turned out they just needed cleaning. The staff was very helpful and showed me how to clean the hearing aids. I was prepared to pay a fee; However, the staff told me there would be no charge. They're very customer oriented and I appreciate how helpful they were. read more

Took my son here for his hearing aids and I must say, it was truly amazing. Dr. Larry Solow and his staff was very professional and made us feel right at home. After 10 years of going to the doctors and doing many hearing test, not one doctor ever told me the information like what I've learned today from Dr. Solow. He explained everything from the CROS hearing aid system to even the accuracy of the hearing after putting it on. I was on an emotional high as I saw my son smile from ear to ear from hearing my voice whisper to him, "I love you", for the first time on his bad side. Once again Larry and his team are there for me I've been having trouble with the dome on my left ear. For what every reason about once a month the dome with stay in the ear when removing the device. Once again it happens Friday morning while getting ready for work This morning I call and was invited right in Please keep in mind I live in Morgan hill So I can't just swing in Larry and the crew got me right in He removed the dome from my ear once again And today we decide to make a mold of the ear Usually this cost about 125 an ear As I pick up my supplies and as I was to pay for the new molding Gladys steps away and comes back just to say there's no charge So I'll come back in 2 weeks Valley hearing center / Larry and crew!!!!! Really happy with the staff here. Everyone was friendly, professional, and welcoming. There was a wide variety of patients there of all ages getting their hearing screening. I want to make a habit of it to check annually and this will be the spot I go to. It was quick, simple, and shows you your results right away. I saw that I got more correct in my right ear versus my left, but my results were still normal. I appreciate that this Center offers free screenings because people might not get their hearing checked otherwise. It's a great resource they offer. Thank you! :) read more

I have been assisted by this warm, friendly and professional hearing center for several years now. Waiting time is short by today's standards; confidentiality is upheld but no one is left feeling like an isolated number. I've observed the very young and very old being assisted by busy receptionists who will still stop to assist a need at hand. Parking is plentiful and close to the front door; those needing wheelchair or walker will find this helpful. Megan Felthoven tested and fitted me for my first hearing aids. She does a great job of explaining questions great and small. I am also grateful to the other audiology staff who have problem solved with fitting batteries, cleaning my hearing sides and working on my loss prevention fears - these are expensive little critters after all - and I misplace my glasses all the time! read more

I had heard good things about Larry so I thought I would go and see if he could help me. I have needed hearing aids for years and just put it off until my family had just had it with the "what did you say?" that was a constant in our daily conversations. I had purchased a single one a while back, but it was so hard to manage and so large and ugly, that I just couldn't use it anymore. I purchased a small pair instead after Larry tested me.They are easy to use, unobtrusive and I couldn't be happier. The staff is really sweet and funny (it was Halloween and everyone was in costume!) This is by far the most unprofessional medical office I've ever been in. Filled out the paper work and our "Licensed hearing aid dispenser" Megan took us to her office, she told us she had been vaccinated and she took her mask off and told us we could do the same, I took her word for it and she did the same with us. I told her my Aunt may need to have her ears checked for wax built up over the years and she said that may be true, but she will need hearing aids no matter what, no hearing test yet, then her cell phone goes off it hubby, and its his birthday and they start talking about what he wants to do tonight, she then hangs up and starts to try and pick out wax from my Aunts ear, and my Aunt says to stop it hurts, she says she has to try and get it, out my Aunt tells her to stop but she keep on digging I to tell her to stop ... phone rings again its the Birthday boy, he needed someones phone number for his party, then she says she can't get the wax out of my Aunt's ear and we have to go to a specialist, still no hearing test, we go up with her to the front desk, and her cell phone goes off again while she is trying to make an appointment a few minutes later we get the info for an appointment at Central Coast Head & Neck Surgeons,INC. and she tells us you have to make sure they give you all the paper work because they space out a lot, and are not very organized Wow !!! Two weeks ago I was tested and fitted for hearing sides by the PhD audiologist/ owner of Valley Hearing. Life is now dramatically different. I hear "new" sounds. I've turned off the tv closed captions and turned down the sound from 25 to 14. I've stopped asking friends and family to repeat. I've stopped struggling to read lips. I put this testing off for years for vanity reasons. Mistake. The devices are hardly noticeable. The staff at Valley Hearing was patient, kind and professional. I was interviewed for pertinent history, examined and tested. My results were clearly explained. All my questions and fears were patiently addressed. I highly recommend this business. At first I wasn't to sure how the visit would go. They were about to reschedule us because mom forgot her referral paperwork. I suggested they call Dr office to fax over copy. A grumpy older gent walked in and needed help with his broken earpiece, so I felt it took away from our getting in and out.. "Long story short " we got taken in and mom was sized for a hearing aid. I was there to translate, but as soon as the gal who I don't recall her name, but that was to travel to NYC the next day was great she stepped in with "I speak Spanish". I love valley hearing center and everyone that works there! they even have coffee! (only 4 stars because they don't have caffeinated coffee) Dr. Larry is the beeeeest, the streamer he provided me has changed my life... as farfetched as that may sound. Okay they get five stars because they have caffeinated coffee now!! As for why the streamer changed my life; it is a device that allows me to transmit my music to my hearing aides and it allows me to turn the volume up and down on life as I please. Would definitely recommend to anyone who thinks they are even mildly tone deaf. read more

My first impression was not good. After my first fitting, when I removed my aide the earbud popped off in my ear (scared the crap outa me). I've been in aides about 15 years and this had never happened. When I called the office Heather tried to tell me this was normal, did not appreciate her response wasn't helpful. I take my aides in and they only change the earbud and not adjust for feedback, I left the office with my aides unwearable and me not hearing. Then like a miracle I got an appointment with Samantha. She updated the program, corrected the earbud size, adjusted for background noise. She basically perfected the aides to me. I can hear so well now I actually heard a bird and realized how long it's been, I watch tv on 15 and not 35 or higher. So yes, Valley Hearing Center and Samantha are my new Audiologist! read more

I walked into the office without an appointment to get a thinner tube for my daughter's hearing aid. I can't believe how nice and accommodating they were. This is a family-owned business with the dad at the helm with the daughter and son playing supporting roles. Don't go anywhere else. So many of these hearing places are chains or big corporations and you get treated like a number. Skip the giant corporations and clinics. This is where you want to go to get personal service. We are planning on becoming regular customers. They gave us the tube for free and Meegan--the super bright and kind daughter--told us about how my daughter might qualify for Medicaid or Rehabilitation reimbursements in the future. Valley Hearing Center is really great! The parking was easy, the staff was friendly, the wait was short, and I received professional, caring attention. I was actually quite nervous to be getting my first hearing aids, and fearful of not understanding how this whole thing works. Megan Felthoven fitted my hearing aids for me and patiently explained all the features. She showed me how to insert and wear my hearing aids easily, how to take care of them on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and also how to use them with my iPhone. I actually enjoyed the process and learned a lot. Right after the appointment I went with my husband and another couple to a crowded, noisy restaurant, which is usually an experience I will go to great lengths to avoid. I couldn't believe it - I could effortlessly hear my friend across the table even while the two men talked right next to us. Since then I have also played my bass with my church choir and the experience was wonderful. There are many places to get hearing aids, but Valley Hearing Center has not only provided me with outstanding hearing products (Oticon), but exceptional customer service as well. My first pair of Oticons I bought elsewhere, but when came time to replace them I went to Valley Hearing Center to find a more supportive environment. That was eight years ago. I have been with them ever since. Every time I have gone into the office I have received both warm and welcoming help, but I have also been given great auiological help. Every staff member has take on any problems I have had with the intent of helping me hear better without costing me more money...a unique combination in today's market economy.
