I lost touch with Van Michael Buckhead for a couple of years, but now that I'm back, I love the new look and feel. Of course, it's very sophisticated, Aveda-esque. The location is just off of Peachtree Road with great street access and plenty of parking. As soon as I entered I felt somewhat ambushed as two or three staff were standing near the door just watching for incoming clients. As soon as the door opened, a greeter walked forward and said "hello, welcome to Van Michael, how can I help?" What's confusing and overwhelming is that this position isn't really helpful. They are greeters, and that's nice, but I found the situation that this position causes to be strange. When I told the greeter that I had an appointment with so-and-so, I was then taken to a podium where the greeter repeated what I said to the person at the podium, who had already heard what I'd said to the greeter from three feet away. Weird, right? And then, the greeter slipped away and the check-in person took over... with whom I had to repeat my name and give additional information (because I have one of "those" names that apparently forty 'leven million others have). So, my question is, why doesn't the check-in person greet me as I walk in? So, anyhoo, I checked in, got a plastic bag for my purse--which protects my purse from any errant splatters of hair color--and headed to change into a smock. Once dressed in the smock, I returned to the front of the store and waited for my colorist. My girl is the bomb-diggety, so I hardly waited for her. And she worked her magic on my distressed tresses. She even went above and beyond by squeezing me in that same day for a brow wax and hair cut. It's rare you can be seen the day of at Van Michael, but somehow my girl took care of me. She's good like that. Overall, I love Van Michael Salon for their professionalism and always top-notch talent. I've never been disappointed by a haircut, color service, makeup touch up or brow wax. They have the salon business crafted into an artform. The only weird thing at the Buckhead location is the greeter/check-in situation. It's a little much and seems unnecessary. Oh, before I forget, the Buckhead location also has a New Talents division where you can get haircuts and color from talent that is working their way up to the main floor of the salon. I've used New Talents before and have never been disappointed. Van Michael definitely makes sure their staff at all levels is exceptional and professional. read more

Unfortunately with some of these larger hair salons you really have to try the menu before picking your favorite entree -- metaphorically speaking of course. I have been going to Van Michael for years and have had some bad experiences but have also had some superb experiences. I got my hair done here all throughout college--thanks to all the New Talents. This is a great way to find your hair stylist or colorist--start at New Talents, even though they are "New" many of them are very experienced and knowledgeable. I have had my hair done from the lowest tiered new talent to one of the most senior (and most expensive) hair stylists--and not surprisingly a higher price does not always relate to better service or experience. After rotating through many different colorists I have found my match made in heaven---Ryan. He is actually a new talent but has been coloring my hair for 2+ years now. There have been times when I would requests something particular done to my hair that Ryan did not necessarily agree would look good. He has a great eye for color and knows what is flattering on people and what isn't. He would delicately voice his opinion and at the end of the day let me make the decision--which of course was whatever he said (because after over 2 years I know he has a better eye than me). I have not found a hair stylist (cutter) that I have been 100% stuck with and have rotated. Unfortunately I had found one about a year ago but she is no longer with Van Michael. Anyway all in all my experiences have been good with the stylists. I had ONE horrible experience, but management was very kind and receptive to my criticism. All in all I really like Van Michael salon. My suggestion, again, is to start small, start with the New Talents, they will surprise you... read more

Last night, I made my second appointment with VM in the New Talents department. My last visit, a year ago, was a mixed bag. Quinn did an amazing job on my color, but the woman who cut my hair was too afraid and conservative to do more than the typical Buckhead Bob, despite me telling her to do whatever she wanted. Once my hair starts going up in a clip or ponytail due to length, I know it's time. On a whim, I called yesterday and managed to get a same day appointment with Grant. I did not know which stylist she was, but when I walked in I spotted a stylist with the most awesome short hair and silently prayed she was mine. It may be odd, but if I don't like the stylists hair...I worry a little. Score! When she walked over to greet me, I liked her immediately. Super friendly without the air of "I'm pretending" and even if she was, A+ acting. Now, I love short hair, but stylists seem hesitant to give me short cuts because of my face shape and being a bigger girl...but when I told Grant that she could do whatever she wanted and go as short as she dared, she was on board immediately. She took it all off and I absolutely love it. I even scheduled my next appointment in 6 weeks, which is something I've never done before. At her recommendation, I made an appointment with Eve for a coloring in a few weeks to complete my rockin' new style. I could not be happier. read more

I've been a customer of New Talents here for at least 5 years, and I've never been disappointed. The services they offer are essentially the same as the full Van Michael Salon, but the stylists are in training, so it's about half the price. The cheaper cut still includes the scalp massage, shampoo, cut, and style, so for me with the simple hair cut, it's a no-brainer. Today I got great service from Georgia. She was friendly and gave good recommendations to make my plain hair a little more stylish. I must admit that I used be somewhat trepidatious when trying anything other than the basics at VMNT because the stylist seemed to be practicing a little too much on each other... with crazy results. My last few visits, everyone has been far more tame. I've also heard they have great prices for color and other services, far cheaper than anywhere else. So do yourself a favor and give this place a try. read more

My two visits to Van Michael were vastly different. My first I would give 3 stars and my second 5 stars so 4 stars feels appropriate. At the Buckhead location, there is plenty of parking in the huge Whole Foods parking lot off of Paces Ferry. After putting on a smock, all hair cuts at Van Michael start with a scalp and shoulder massage (which is great). After a quick chat with the stylist, a new talent assistant thoroughly washes your hair. The chairs you sit in when they wash your hair are similar to those at many nail places with automated massaging. It is all very relaxing. My first visit was with someone in the "new talent" program at 6 pm on a Friday night. There was only one other client in the salon which felt a little odd, but that was probably because of the time. The new talent cuts are around $35 and someone in the cosmetology school cuts your hair with limited supervision. I was happy with the initial cut, but I didn't love the way it grew out. My second and more recent visit was at 1 pm on a Saturday with Jonathan. The space was packed and I realized how many more stations they have than I had seen on my first visit. I had a bit of a wait, but I expected that in the middle of the day on a Saturday. Jonathan was quick and clearly knew what he was doing. He showed me how he was fixing the parts of my hair cut that I didn't like from before and how this one would be different. He also talked me through how he was drying it and gave me helpful tips about how to dry my hair at home. Besides being really friendly, I thought he did a great job. After getting frustrated with my tangled hair, I began asking around for good stylists. My pal Carrie (who has the cutest darn bob I ever did see) recommended Shannon at Van Michael. I made an appointment at the Buckhead location and received a friendly reminder phone call the day before (much appreciated.) The salon has complimentary valet. Once inside the door, it was clear that they were super busy, but they still went out of their way to make me feel important. I checked in at one of the many stands and was immediately offered a drink and given a tour. Quick change into a smock, scalp massage (Halle-friggin-lujah), shampoo with an Aveda product that smelled delicious and made my head tingle, and I was in the chair with Shannon. Before beginning my stylish new cut, Shannon walked me through the process of donating my hair. The salon's manager also came over, introduced herself, and gave me a free gift of Aveda hand lotion in a nifty little pouch. They offer free make-up touches after your cut and maintenance bang trims, no appointment necessary. That's a huge sell for me, because the last time I cut my own bangs, my mother took a picture and sent it to the newspaper. My hair looks great, and I can't wait to go back. My favorite salon in Atlanta! I have been going to the same stylist for 9 years in San Diego. I was so scared to go to anyone new that I was planning a trip back to Cali to have my hair done. J I met Paul and knew that I wanted to give him a chance on cutting my hair. I am sooooo glad I did! WOW! I loved how professional he was and how he took the time to explain how much I needed cut, why, what would best fit my lifestyle and shape of my face. He recommended a couple of the hair color experts and I chose Juan...another SCORE! He knew exactly what he wanted to do with my color after only a couple minutes. He added some gorgeous highlights and spent the extra time to dry the top to show me my new color before sending me for my cut with Paul. I have my new Atlanta hair stylists. I have always received top-notch service in both the New Talent division as well as the regular salon. The Buckhead salon is very conveniently located. I've been seeing Gia for the last 4+ years and she is the absolute best stylist I've seen in Atlanta. She's very friendly, quick and always makes sure that I'm happy and will take the time to style my hair however I want it. For color, I highly recommend Ashley. She is a pro both at color and at highlights and saved my friend's hair just days before her wedding. I had such a great experience here! Victoria was awesome, the girls at reception were awesome, the tea they gave me while I waited was awesome, and it looked like all of the other clients were genuinely happy when greeted by their stylist. I've found my Atlanta salon! --- I got a free cut by going in on Monday and being a model for the students. They're always looking for models, so if you need a haircut but don't have the money, call Van Michael, and they'll hook you up. That's kind of how I met Victoria. She reached out to me and asked if I'd be willing to be a model, and the haircut wouldn't cost me a thing. First of all, Victoria has such a great personality, and it was a blast to have her behind the chair. Not only is she upbeat, funny, and engaging, but she legit knows her stuff, she asked me real questions about my hair and any concerns I had, she taught me more about my hair and how to work with it, and because she was part of the study program, she asked the lead stylist when she had questions. This means #1 Victoria cares about learning and giving clients the best cut for them and #2 She has a great attitude about asking for help. She already works at Van Michael regularly, but the fact that she's taking this study course as an opportunity to learn more speaks volumes about her as a stylist. Thanks to Victoria, her questions to me and to the lead stylist, I walked out with one of my favorite haircuts of all time. (Of all time!) I'm honestly looking forward to when I can make an appointment with Victoria during her working hours so I can pay her for her great work. If my experience with Victoria is any indication of the professionalism and skill of the others at Van Michael, I would recommend them with no reservations. I don't know about the prices, but I know that these people care about making your hair work for you, making you feel great, and getting better at their craft. It was just excellent. read more

I have been going to Van Michael Salon on and off for years, though this was my first time at the Buckhead location (had only been to the Sandy Springs location previously). I called and made an appointment about a week before. Luckily, since I am a studying bum these days, my schedule is pretty flexible, so I picked around lunchtime in the middle of a Friday. (By the way, I was extremely lucky, as the snow and ice caused by Tuesday's Snowpocalyptic storm resulted in VM closing both Wednesday and Thursday). I was slightly confused about where I could park. First, I parked at a spot that I noticed had a 1-hour limit. Crap. Ice and slush everywhere on the crowded lot. I took off and went to look for something else, concerned that my getting there 15 minutes early would go completely unnoticed because of parking woes. I was uber fortunate, as I made my way around the corner, right in front of the salon, someone was pulling out. I put my signal on, to ensure that no approached driver would get any bold ideas, and pulled my dirty car right in. Phew. Still about 10 minutes early. I walked on the salt-covered sidewalk (if only they did a better job on the streets. Giving you the evil eye, Georgia DOT...) and walked inside. I walked up to someone at a register and gave my name. I was immediately walked to an area to hang up my coat and scarf and put on a smock. From there, the person escorting me about brought me to Cooper, who would be my colorist. I already had his name from the time I made my appointment over the phone. We said hi to each other and he walked me to his chair. I told him to just cover up my grey hairs (I have a crazy ton) and to keep the color as close to my natural color as possible. The thing was that I had colored my hair a slightly lighter color about six months before. He went to mix up the semi-permanent color without a hitch and came back and started doing his thing. Once he had slathered it all on, he put on a clear shower cap thing on my head and brought me to sit under the heater. I was there 20 minutes and I really liked that he really timed it (other places that I've tried have forgotten about me and left me for twice the time). He came back exactly on time and washed out my hair. When we were done, he had me wait on a padded bench with this round hair dryer thing that looked like it had come from Futurama. I wish I had taken a picture. I was waiting for the stylist, Elizabeth, to whom he quickly introduced me when I was sitting on his chair, to be ready to chop my hair. She was working with another client, but right as my scheduled time rolled around, she signaled me to come over. Sadly for my pedometer, her chair was only on the other side of Cooper's, which was immediately adjacent to the bench I was sitting on. So about 2 steps to her chair. She had already asked me earlier what I wanted when she came by Cooper's station, at which point I told her to cut off 4 inches. She tested me and asked me to show her what I thought that would be. I was right on the money. (You know how? Because I have a complete lack of ability to guess distances and lengths. I had already measured at home, sucker!) I explained to her that I am so low maintenance that I can't even style my hair. (At my age, that needs to change. Stat.) She told me she'd put in very subtle layers so that I could just wash and go. Perfect. I entertained the idea of going shorter but she said that if I didn't like doing my hair, that would be a no-no. I trusted her. She was cute and her name looked good. In a hair battle, she'd win every time. Once she finished cutting and styling, I put on my glasses and was shocked by the result. Okay, not entirely flabbergasted, as it wasn't an earth-shattering change, but I loved everything. You see, I can't see without my spectacles so when I get hair things done to me, the end result is always a surprise because I am usually required to remove my sight assistance. As I mentioned in my tip, if you are an Asian person who just wants to cover up greys without changing your hair color, see Cooper. He totally knows what he's doing. Elizabeth is cute, fun, and really talented for her young age. See her to freshen up your look. Or just get a trim. Paying was easy, at the register section in the middle (where all the Aveda products are being sold). I was asked if I wanted to make another appointment, which I didn't. I'll just call when I feel like spending money again on my hair. Which will probably be more than 6 months from now. I was given two little envelops in which I could leave my tips for my hair miracle-doers. I did so and went up to each one personally to give it to them. I left a happy gal. read more

I came in for a hair and make up appointment. Everything started with their super talented MUA Kristina. She was so knowledgeable and actually did my make up better than my wedding day MUA! I wish I would've had her do my wedding make up..... I showed her pictures and she did exactly what I wanted. Murray did my shampoo/blow out and he started off with a ridiculously relaxing neck/shoulder massage. He gave me plenty of volume, which I always need. He is an expert on blow outs. Rod did my updo, and whipped it up in 20 minutes. I brought pictures and he told me his recommendations based on all of them and my hair looked flawless. I'm not sure what kind of hairspray he used but my updo was a loose updo and it stayed ALL night long. I wish this salon was in Raleigh so I could go ALL the time! I'm not going to lie, this place can be a little intimidating. It's big and there's a complete system. I felt a little bit like a fish out of water. That said everyone I interacted with was very friendly and helpful, which made navigating my first visit much more comfortable and less nerves wracking. I got my color done by Armand and I love it. Love. It's the perfect highlight. Everyone knows my hair looks great but no one can quite put their finger on why. It's different enough to look good but not so different that it's clear I just got it colored. Murray did my cut and again love. He listened during the consultation and while he promised not to laugh when I shared my love of my infomercial InStyler, his chuckle was a bit endearing. He provided a lot of good tips for care. I won't lie, this was the most expensive salon visit I've ever had. But Isaac Mizrahi once said never skimp on your hair or your shoes, and they are words to live by. I recently moved to Atlanta and needed to find a new Aveda salon. After reading the reviews here on Yelp I decided to try Van Michael Salon in Buckhead. I went with the adivce to go with the new talents and I was very happy with my haircut. Grant was my stylist and she was really great. Very personable and nice to talk to. I have already made my next appointment for November, something I have never done (scheduled a hair appt in advance) but I loved Grant and the cut I got and needed to make sure I could get her around the busy Thanksgiving season. Finding a good hair stylist, one that you can trust with you hair, is hard to come by so you have to keep the ones you find. read more

Being new to the area I made a mistake and went to a hairdresser that butchered my hair and left me looking like a wreck! I didn't want to leave the house for weeks, yes it was that bad. My mom mentioned a place called Van Michael's that her hair dresser told her about so needing to save my do I called and asked for the best. They gave me Brandon's name and my appointment was made. Brandon worked his magic and put me at ease from the moment I stepped into his chair. He listened but also new exactly what to do. His assistant, True, is also super sweet and kind. Hello If you go to there normal salon side, I have been told that if they do something wrong, they will do there best not to fix the issue. They will to there best to cover it up by saying it's you, you didn't need the hairstyle that you wanted or it wont of work. In addition if you are on a time crunch, this coming from one of people I talk to on a regular basis, make sure they know or else you might be later to your appt. Now if they fix it for free, I'm not sure. But enough about what a fellow former client said. This is reference to there new talents side "aka their hair school' from what I understand" About month or so ago, i look on FB marketplace to find somebody or and a hair school that does hair coloring. I wanted to be red again. I find one,a student with van Michael, we come to agreement to come in for a hair color. After couple failed attempts, either he didnt need a hair model or I had to work, so no go for the session. We finally make a solid appointment, It was two weeks ago this monday. When I went in, at 3pm and left sadly at 7pm. I did my best with the paperwork they gave me, I didn't see anything like, if theres a mistake on the students part, or & you dont like how your hair comes out, you will need to come back and pay for another hair model service, which is 20$ not bad for a hair color at a salon that charges you an arm and a leg for the service itself. Especially if you add highlights etc. My student and I decide on a true red base with highlights to match. The teacher agrees and we move forward. When all was said and done. What came out, Was Completely Wrong. I was very upset. The teacher came over and said what's wrong, I said that this isnt red I wanted, and she tells me it is and she sees red. How, its more brown than red and not the red ! I ! wanted. She said we can add a red gloss if you want. Nop, I wanted to get going to my evening appt and I realize that a gloss isnt permanent, it's just a band aid :( So I go to pay and ask if they can fix it some other time, Nop, we Dont do that, you will have to come for another service. I said it there is no where in the paperwork that saids that, nothing from them, they just continue on. Not only that the counter person said, our students find models, we dont. In addition the person at the counter was very uppity and seem that people who aren't a certain size or and look should be treated less than people who are wealthy and thin. ' I'm getting real tired of salons that treat me that way or at least I feel that I'm not welcome there, never go salon leon in Marietta for that reason either ' I wish there wear more salons and hairstyles that like us for what we want, who we are, and are treated like movie stars, instead wearing a mask of oh joy a fluffy person is here, time to faux smile and treated them like faux wannabes' "I'm fluffy and it's hard to treat myself, when the world looks at you that way for most part and I dress the best I can, w/o looking like an old lady that wearing wallpaper." I sadly pay because I didnt was to cause a scene, start crying and left. That night I send the salon a FB message, Because the only other way to contact them is by #, No Instagram, no Twitter no nothing and how I was feeling, talking to them would been a bad idea. I explain to them what happen, how if this student got a job with your salon, there wont be that many clients, if he does services the way he did with me and how charging me for another service when it wasnt my fault, is wrong. ' Sadly I dont know if they fix hair problems for free, on the other side " I wish and hope they do, after A lot of debate, sadly' There response was this ( Hi Linda, thank you for your message. I apologize that you did not receive the color you expected. It is our policy at Van Michael that we do not offer corrective services for models who have services at class on Mondays, as models are aware that this is a training experience for our students. We would be happy to accommodate you on a future Monday, however the service will be $20.) This isnt right, nor is it good customer service. So if you are reading this and are interested in going to this place. Be Careful going in Because you might not like what you get, afterwards. This salon is about quantity, not quality. Van Michael is set up so that one hair dresser does the color, and another hairdresser does the cut. One person cannot do both (which is more expensive for the customer, and makes the salon more money) After The hairdresser colored my hair, she sent me off to get it cut while it was still wet and I never saw her again. After I was finished she never came and checked on me to see if the color was right or to see if I liked it. The color was not at all what I wanted, but since I am so bad with confrontation I just paid for the services and left. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if they will fix my color. I would recommend to save your money and try another salon. read more

I just moved here from Dallas and needed my roots fixed badly! WARNING - If you are blonde... be weary. There is a fine line between platinum and golden yellow to these people. They only know one or the other. I was in and out within an hour and I have extremely long hair so that was impressive. I just wish I was asked more questions about what I wanted since this guy has been working there for 15 years. Stopped by Van Michael for a quick blowout before a friend's wedding. DJ did an awesome job taming my wavy locks enough to withstand the Atlanta humidity and 6-7 hours of dancing the night away. This particular location is cushy. Really cushy. And it's awesome. The layout is modern yet welcoming. The shampoo chairs recline almost totally and customers are always treated with a complimentary (and substantial) scalp and neck massage. Can't complain! Parking is easier here than at the Virginia Highlands location (since there's a large parking lot), but the service is equally outstanding. Pop by Whole Foods next door on your way out, looking awesome, for a quick bite. Perfect. read more

I had some coworkers talk me into going to Van Michael to get my hair cut after I grew it out very long for my wedding. I had decided to get it cut shoulder length so was a little worried that wherever I went would screw it up. Thankfully, I went to Bernard and he gave me probably the best haircut I've ever had! The place is huge as it houses both Van Michael and their school, New Talents. You can choose to have a haircut by one of their New Talent students or a more experienced Van Michael employees. I chose Bernard, with many years of experience even though it was more expensive at $80. You start by going and putting on a smock and then I did a quick consultation with Bernard. I had a vague idea of what I wanted but within 5 minutes, he pin pointed exactly what I wanted and what would look good on me. He then gave me a head, neck and shoulder massage with some great smelling oil. Very relaxing. Then, time for shampoo and the cut. He was very pleasant the whole way through and was extremely quick. He explained to me why he was doing everything he did including all the product. He showed me how to blow dry my hair and easily style it. Afterward, he gave me a "prescription card" which showed all the products he used in my hair in case I wanted to purchase them. It was definitely the best hair-cutting experience I've ever had and will definitely make my next appointment with Bernard! read more

Van Michaels turned my experience around. I had called Van Michaels Saturday morning seeing if by chance there was an open haircut appointment for me. I did not request a specific stylist. Fortunately, they were able to fit me in and said what time can you get here. We both agreed on a 1 pm appointment. I hurried and told my 8 year old son to get ready he is coming with me for a quick haircut. I arrived and they told me the appointment was for tomorrow not today. Elizabeth saw the disappointment on my face and I had shared with her that I drugged my son with me to hurry and get to Buckhead. Atlanta Traffic! Elizabeth was wonderful and said I believe I can fit you in but it will be in an hour with Portia. YAY! Saved the day but I had to wait around with my 8 year old for an hour. WORTH IT! Portia was wonderful (as was Elizabeth). The haircut is the best one I have had in a long time. I highly recommend her haircuts. She is on the New Talent side. Rowan Cumberle is the best! I had a change of heart several weeks before my daughter's wedding and decided rather than wearing my hair down I would like to wear it in an Up Do! I was referred to Rowan and booked an appointment for a trial. He was awesome and worked a miracle styling my not even shoulder length hair in a beautiful Up Do! I immediately told him I would like him to do my hair for the wedding. He checked his schedule and found he was already totally booked on the wedding day BUT he quickly agreed to come in at 8:00AM before hours to do my hair. He did an even better job this second time! I cannot even count the compliments that I received and continue to get weeks after the wedding - some from male friends of my husband who rarely notice yet comment on such things!! The salon itself was great. It's a huge salon with tons of stylist, but very well run - no crazy long wait time or a huge bottleneck of people checking in our out. My stylist, Holly, was... meh. She spent a long time talking about herself (I really didn't need to know about the competitive cheerleading she did in high school and the injuries she sustained doing it), so much so that she didn't really listen to what I actually wanted. Starting with the shampoo, she really only washed the top part of my hair near my forehead. I've never experienced a shampoo like that. I honestly don't even know if all of my hair got wet. The cut is OK, but after telling her three times that I wanted an angled bob, she just gave me a long, one length bob with face framing layers. Again, it's OK, just not what I wanted. I absolutely love my team of stylists here at Van Michael. Both my colorist and 'cut' stylist are amazing - and the compliments from friends and strangers keep coming. When I'm feeling a bit ambivalent about my hair, and almost stuck in a style rut, they ALWAYS keep me fresh and looking fabulous. They finally talked me into color melting and bangs... and I feel so fresh and hip! Word to the wise - if you want products, make sure you put your order form in for the "customer appreciation days" when you get a discount. You can't beat great prices on Aveda products. read more

BLONDES BEWARE! I have seen numerous of their "top talent" colorists who work in the back room with assistants. EVERY time I've seen these more "experienced" people they turn my fucking roots ORANGE! As if they were never trained to know what a level 9/10 blonde should look like when finished processing! BAFFLING! They at least attempt to fix it but again adding even more damage doing a second process in one sitting. And this is their "TOP" talent ?!?! Unacceptable in a city like ATL where salon competition is fierce. This salon only knows how to do brunettes as u will notice in the clientele if u ever walk in and look around & are only capable of pleasing middle aged women in their 40s-60s which you will notice as well. Surprisingly Veronica who is more of a mid level colorist is the only person in the entire salon who has an eye for a level 9/10 blonde. She needs to be promoted ASAP. Additionally- Aveda products are turning to absolute shit. Especially their purple shampoo they sold me because their "Top talent" just dyed my roots fucking orange. It has been a long time since I have been to VM.I have moved from the area which is the only reason I have not been there.To this day,and I have traveled to some of the best cities for hair in the U.S,Michel Council is the best hair cutter I've known.He transformed my appearance and gave me confidence to do what my own hair does best.He was honest about the limits I could face when I brought a picture in stating my desire.After the first cut,I was hooked.His haircuts get better and better as the hair grows.This characteristic I have found only with him.I have greatly missed the quality of service,skill and charm I experienced there.Im so glad to see their great success.Donna read more

My stylist Loreen deserves a four star but this salon is average at best. Loreen gave me an awesome cut and I loved chatting with her during the appointment. Unfortunately, this place feels like a hair factory and is not welcoming or relaxing! The front desk girls were varied - some friendly others aloof. I'm not sure I will return. We moved from Manhattan and I think I will try one other salon before deciding. I don't mind paying slightly more if the environment and experience is relaxing - which it should be given how rarely I splurge to get my hair done! 3 stars because my past visits were amazing. But I no longer come to this location for my services because of the last time being so bad. I have to book two slots because of my hair being so thick, curly and long. My girl was 30-45 mins late. No communication from receptionists, or my stylist. No "Hey I'm sorry I'm running a little wait! I'll be with you shortly" just nothing. After waiting for that long, I finally asked the receptionist what was going on and 5 mins later she finally got to me. From there on, everything was rushed. My shampoo lasted like 2 mins. I'm used to getting at least a minute or two of scalp massage. Cut was okay I guess... but the blow dry....? Not great. My hair was a frizz ball before I even stepped out of the door. A few flyaways, sure fine. I can deal with that. But if it looks like my hair has been air dried when I step out of the salon, that's unacceptable. She never offered me any heat styling after my blow dry. My hair typically takes 2 hours when it's all said and done: shampoo, cut, blow dry, heat styling. My service was maaaaaybe an hour, if that. & with this hair, it's not really possible to do all of that in that time frame. Keep in mind, I usually book two slots solely for this reason. I tried another place after that and wasn't complete happy with my haircut so I came back to Van Micheal Salon, to the area of New Talents. I ended up with Elmira and I love her, she really knows what to do with my hair even if I don't!! I'm definetively staying with her. I've tried the faux hawk, the Daniel Craig, the Auburn Grad and the Summer Short. Peyton rocked out each look. Others have called it out, the secret here is to go New Talents ($28 mens haircuts). You might have to try one or two before you find someone who you know is really talented with the shears and will one day get called up to the other side of the building (the $80+ haircuts.) read more

True was very unprofessional. I received a call before my cut to come 30 minutes later than the appointment time. When I arrived, they told me that since he was late, my appointment would not be able to happen. He then said he could give me a complimentary cut. Then when I asked if I could come for my complimentary cut the next day. He said actually no, I can't do a complimentary cut anymore. But maybe I can give you a product. Maybe.... but not for sure. This rating is strictly for the stylist Katherine. The salon is beautiful and seems to be full of very talented stylists, which is why I went. The length of my hair walking in was 32 inches. I asked for a V-cut, Katherine proceeded to tell me that this style is outdated. She also told me that the next time I come in, my hair cut would cost $135 instead of the $90 quote i was given over the phone when scheduling. She said since it's my first visit she would honor the $90 price, but once an established client, it would go up to $135. When scheduling I informed the representative over the phone that I have very long hair, so I asked if there would be an extra fee. THE ANSWER WAS NO. Anyways, the true cut I wanted was simply to add more layers and bangs to my very long middle part hair. Her exact words were "your hair is entirely too long but your the one that has to wear it". I found this to be offensive and should have gotten up at that point. I left the salon sobbing hysterically. Management handled the situation very well and I was even offered free extensions, I didn't take the offer because I didn't want to become dependent on extension to be able to bear looking at my hair so I'm deciding to just make the best of it. Also, at the end of my hair cut, she argued with me and told me that my hair is still long....it wasn't. Yet she she argued multiple times it was, when you had 32 inches of hair- don't argue with someone that ABOVE bra strap length hair is "long". My hair walking in was past hip length, leaving it was above my bra strap. I asked for layers. She did what she wanted, and to be completely honest- I left with a hair style similar to hers. Envy is real, people. SO MY ADVICE!!!!!! During the consult portion of the appointment, really take into account if you and the stylist hit it off or if you clash. If you clash, GET UP. Yes it's just hair and grows back, but I was extremely proud of the length and health of my hair. Oh, and just in case there is more than one Katherine at this location, the one I am referring to is from an older lady from Honk Kong (she told me this) with tattooed eyeliner. I have never written a review on any salon, but after 6 months of growing out a bad haircut, I'm still livid. I have been going to this salon on and off for many years and I've gone to New Talents for a trim every now and then. I've always been able to get a good trim, however 6 months ago I went to Jeremy in New Talents. He cut my bangs too far back AND cut one side of my hair and made a sideburn! I went back and the manager gave me as good a cut as he could, but Jeremy was still there!!! This stylist should not have even been on the floor cutting hair. I would even say he should have been fired. Worst screw up on my hair in my whole life. My 8 year old niece would have done a better job. I'm now going to Vis A Vis salon where they were absolutely astounded by what this guy had done to my hair. They have never seen anything like it. It will take another 6 months for it to look right again. New Talents has gone downhill over the years and I will never go back, ever. Done. Go there at your own risk. read more

A cut with Jeremy from New Talents was one of the worst haircut experiences in my life. I should've read some reviews before, but there are a lot of negative reviews about him. I had to go elsewhere to get it fixed. His haircut are not worth the 49$ that he charges. He didn't listen to a single one of my requests and made me feel rushed and uncomfortable throughout the whole process. I will never be back to the Buckhead Van Michael. read more
