I love Vanity Beauty Lounge! I've been going there for over 10 years and have held several gatherings there, both personal and work related. The services have always been fabulous and professional. The ambiance is really comfortable and it's decorated very nicely. The other downtown SF nail salons do not come close at all. After picking me up from an appointment a few years ago, my husband decided to join me and now goes for appointments as well! It's very easy to make an appointment via text and online and they respond quickly. The atmosphere is peaceful and inviting and the technicians know you by name. Wow. I never get my nails done, because I have had SO many bad experiences at nail salons. I mean terrible! Until I found Vanity. I saw it when I was on my way to work and figured I'd give it a try after seeing the great reviews. Jenny is my girl and I will not go to anyone else nor anywhere else other than Vanity. That's how much I loved this place and how EXCELLENT of an experience I had. I did a Brazilian wax and a gel manicure, and she did awesome with both, but I am so impressed with my gel manicure. Amazing service!! Went with a friend on Friday morning at 11am to get gel mani and pedi. Was greeted at the door and confirmed our appointment then led to our comfy lounge seats. Tam came and started off with warm foot bath and hot neck wrap while I decided on the colors I wanted. Never felt rushed and finally decided on a light purple for nails and classic white for pedi. Jenny was a gem and trimmed my nails into nice oval shape and paid so much attention to my cuticles so it came out looking perfect~ Tam was super attentive and efficient from trimming, lotion, foot scrub, and painting! I was a bit concerned to get my mani & pedi at a salon with covid situation and I went there with that concern. But they did follow the guidelines mentioned on their website and take extra precautions. I felt really safe to get my mani & pedi there and one thing I like most was that the girls didn't chitchat like pre-covid during services which is so considerate of them to take extra steps in precautions The atmosphere is pretty relaxing and clean and the price is also reasonable in SF. Might be due to where they're located, they are always on time and prompt on services and you don't need to wait at all. I had been there before covid situation and they used to offer heated herbal neck wrap while doing my mani & pedi which was so relaxing, refreshing and felt so good. I did just the basic mani pedi package (57$). Then they charge 10$ to remove gel! Why should i pay to remove something when im already paying for you to put a new color on. The atmospher really was not great. The pillow they placed on my lap was wet, when i told the tech she just put a towel over it, witch then also became wet. This place is absolutly obserd. Also. I have very dry cuticles and always run the risk of bleeding when I get them cut. But Mimi did it so gently with no pain. It was a really pleasant experience. Prices and services are reasonable in SF and the ladies are friendly and accommodating. With Covid situation, I appreciate that the salon is taking additional precautions. Temperatures taken and washing hands with sanitizer as you check in. Masks are required at all times. And there's plexi glass separating you from the technician. I did a normal manicure, no nail art, with red nails and people commented on them all day. Vanity was very clean, and has not forgotten about the pandemic. This was my second time visiting and I had really liked it before. This time I went for a gel manicure and everything was normal- until the manicurist shared a disgusting story about another customer. It was someone that was no longer there, and she leaned in as if to tell me a secret and then made a horribly racist comment about African Americans. My face burned and I couldn't wait to get out of there. I declined the hand massage and described what happened to the person that took payment. I was too shocked, sad and embarrassed to do anything else- I regretfully even tipped her (?!). Back at work I saw the manicure did not even cover my whole nail. It's too bad because I've been recommending this place for months and had brought in two friends. 09/18 - The owner reached out to me to apologize via message. She wrote that her employee did not understand english very well and that she did not mean for the conversation to come out like that, and that I can come back for a free manicure. When someone tells a story to a larger group and then leans in and whispers, "it was so gross because they were African American," it makes me think they do know what they are saying is wrong. This to me looks like the manager is trying to smooth things over and I cannot support a business that does not understand the inherent awfulness of racism. read more

The woman herself is very pleasant and professional, but this is probably one of the top 2 worst gel manicures I've ever had. For $52, you get a gel removal and fresh gel manicure, some solid ambiance, very nice decor, and good customer service. the actual manicure itself: not good. I was cut during the cuticle clean up (you know, the kind thats small but stings for the rest of the day), and my polish leaked into my cuticles on several fingers. 2 stars because i'd give up ambiance and decor for a good manicure. read more

Both ladies are the sweetest and did a fantastic job on my nails. I also loved the interior design of VBL - very beautiful and unique style unlike many other mani and pedi salons I've been to. I also appreciated how quiet it was during my visit - it gave me a true relaxing experience. I couldn't decide on which color to choose for my toes but the Spa Manager was able to help me choose a color based on the color of my dress for a wedding I was attending. Very poor job on manicure and pedicure. Manicure was started chipping the next day and all I did was go home and shower. The same person did my nails and feet. When she did my pedicure she pretty much cut off one of my nails on my left foot and tried to cover it up. After she made the error she tried to tried quickly hurry up so she could put my foot down so I wouldn't see. Thinking back on it I realized that's why she spent so little time and was rushing on that my left foot and took her time on my right foot. When she saw me glance down at my toes, she quickly asked if everything was ok and I said yes it's fine because I was literally taking a glance at them, but I didn't think anything of it. It wasn't until I got home and took my shows off that I realized all my toe nails were different shapes and sizes, but more noticeable was my 2nd toe (aka the long toe or toe next to the big toe) which she left just enough nail to put a little blob of nail polish. Needless to say I will not be wearing any open toe shoes until the nail grows back and I can go to someone more reliable. Lastly, she was supposed to give me a hand and arm massage, which she did a poor job at too. I felt like she was trying to hurry and get me out of the chair before I noticed her mistakes, so she just rubbed my hands really fast and aggressively before letting me know I was all done. I usually don't take time to leave reviews, especially not bad ones because I know mistakes happen and sometimes people are just having a bad day, but I had to pay for those mistakes and it doesn't sit right with me. read more

I so much love this nails salon that I cannot express. They do the best nails and the owner is so lovely, friendly and caring. It's not a typical nail salon but a better elegant and exquisite nails place. I am very picky with the quality of my mani and pedi, although I do just simple without any polish often. I booked a shellac manicure after reading all these good reviews, but my experience turned out to be very different. First, the good - Convenient location in the Embarcadero Online booking Can get in the same day Now, not so good - horribly PAINFUL mani! I've had A LOT of manis/pedis over the years in various cities across the US, but never did I have such a horribly painful and uncomfortable manicure. Now, I realize my skin is on the dry side, but this is the season for it! My cuticles bled throughout the process and have been raw for days after the mani. At the appointment, I asked the tech if it's best to stop buffing and just do a regular mani, but she said it would be fine. It's been a few days, and my cuticles are still raw. I loved my experience at Vanity Beauty Lounge! The place is super chic, and I can picture it being the next hot destination for bachelorette parties. The spot almost looks like an upscale New York City bar, with red walls, huge beautiful mirrors, black lounge seating, plush cushions and creative bouquets -- with natural lighting streaming through the windows. The place is pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. When I sat down for my pedicure, they immediately placed a soft warm lavender wrap on my shoulders. It was such a nice touch, and soo relaxing. Now for the most memorable part of the pedicure -- this girl scrubbed my feet like I walk on coals for a living. Not to say she was rough on my feet, but she worked on them for about 20 minutes. She was seriously and almost obsessively dedicated to getting my feet in excellent condition.
