I ordered the red burrito and I'm so glad I did. Everything about the ingredients and taste of this burrito was great! Service was fast and friendly. Parking may be a challenge but worth it. I want to go back and try something else.

I drove all the way from long beach on a tuesday to hear them say were out of asada meat mid day? Smh terrible. They only had carnitas which i wasn't feeling. Parking is tight! You may have to park down the block. There is no tables or seating area inside, its strictly to go orders.

To start-the parking situation is a bit tricky, there is street parking and a small parking lot that fills up quickly and is a bit awkward. But this whole area of Pico Rivera has a very vintage vibe to it. It reminds me of old school neighborhoods not yet touched by gentrification. It's a very small, special pocket of Mexican/Chicano families. The establishment itself has some interesting architecture. The facade has a mural of a blue eyed, dark haired beauty. The family that runs this business has similar features so it is fitting. Upon arriving, there was a line out the door but it was a short wait. There is no seating so all orders are to go. What I loved about this place is it's authenticity. The pans reminded me of the kind my grandmother would use. These people are the real deal. Old school cooking. All of the food is out for display. The kitchen is unhidden and there is full transparency. The food is protected by a glass partition. I ordered the bean and cheese burrito, chili Relleno burrito and some fries. I also bought chips and tortillas that they had on the side. They offer an assortment of dry goods such is tea and herbs. The fries were seasoned well but did not include ketchup. I found this a bit odd but we all have ketchup at home. You get to watch as they prep your food. They use extra large flower tortillas. Homemade beans. And the other ingredients. The chili Relleno itself was good and cheesy. I found the burritos to be slightly dry. There was no salsa included which was a bit strange for me. This won't be a regular spot for me but it's always good to try new restaurants. I did enjoy patronizing a family run business. I liked being able to observe an extended family working together to keep their family history alive and the creation of a legacy. We desperately need that in LA. I like that this business has been around for decades. Mazel tov to this family.

The tamales & beans are the best! The rice is ok but missing something. You can preorder tamales for your holiday meal.

Is this a cash only place also are the hours posted current?

    They take cards

Are tamales available daily or is it only a seasonal item?

You must pay the Tamales Club membership fee of $35/year to enjoy them year around. If not, you can only order them around Christmas time.

Does anyone know why they're closed indefinitely? Or when they will open again? There's a written sign on the door saying they're closed until further notice 🙁

Hi, yes we are open again!

Is the masa made with lard or oil? Just want to know if it contains pork or not

Hi Sara, yes the masa prep contains lard

I ordered the spicy Picositos Verdes and the chicharrón de queso--both were delicious! The staff was super friendly, the restaurant was spotless, and the AC was flowing (a must!). I also loved the cute little tables and the unique location inside the old Duran Bakery, with the original sign still up. Such a cool touch! Definitely worth checking out if you're craving authentic Mexican food!

I remember a video a restaurant serving chilaquiles but in Pico Rivera,I using Yelp to find the restaurant bingo found it the restaurant called Taquearte California/Duran Mexican Bakery in one building. The restaurant cross between Rosemead Blvd and Beverly Blvd in shopping center on the left there's plenty parking on the street. Found parking just walking distance from the restaurant right ways we notice the restaurant is packed but there's a sign to have a seat and wait. We got a staff member hand a menu and order to the cashier. We look at the menu then we notice people were coming in and getting in line behind us. My wife order the Verdes classics not spicy with a egg on top. I order the same item but with egg and steak m,the eggs and steak are $4.50 each then we order our drinks she got Jamaica and I got a Mexican Coke both are refreshing with a meal are having. We're surprise our meals just arrived at the table so quick my wife couldn't wait to tasted the chilaquiles she love the chilaquiles she this were the best chilaquiles I ever tasted she please. First the chili Verde sauce amazing good so much flavor with right citrus acid in sauce that make the sauce good, but chips were crunchy and hold up to the sauce and cheese add more intense flavors to the dish with egg make everything creamy with Yolk it so good. If like chilaquiles you need to come to Taquearte California in Pico Rivera. The staff at the Taquearte California were amazing great with patience and friendly we also give thanks to the cooks and the staff in kitchen thank you.

Ordered the chile verde/chile colorado from the chef specialities section of menu....our lovely server Bertha pointed it out since my cousin wanted to try both.....I had the very cheesy chile relleno.....came with generous portion of beans and rice...it was great for me nothing too salty but the two rellenos were only lukewarm tho the cheeze was well melted....it was good and hearty 4/5......chips and salsa free....the chips had a Doritos style color dusting of red 5/5 some kind of spice maybe??...it was fresh and crunchy and kinda thick, we liked it plus the salsa was not hot just tangy....we asked for Pico de Gallo but they don't serve it a la carte apparently. It comes as part of an entree, but never found out which one. Turns out the cook/owner was once the executive chef at Angel Stadium. So food was solid, traditional and nothing fancy nouvelle or la de da...nothing crazy experimental...just good solid Mex that will satisfy a craving. The Jamaica was not too sweet not too sour....not watered down...light and refreshing....wish I had asked for a refill or maybe they don't do refills on agua frescos, I don't know. Very nice extensive menu. Plenty of free parking. Tucked in the corner of a strip mall on Roaemead Blvd. Not easily visible from the street in any direction. So pay attention to your GPS.
