I went to Vazzys' last night with friends. Never again! I called ahead because I have a gluten allergy. I asked what I could order and was told that the Vazzy special can be made gluten free. So I ordered this entree. IT WAS AWEFUL!!!!! It had very little zucchini, onion or any other vegetable. It had no garlic taste. It was in a watery sauce. It looked like they forgot to drain the pasta and put a teaspoon of sauce in it to mix with the water. I cannot tell you enough how horrible this was. I could have made a much better meal for myself at home. I have been to Vazzy's on Main St Stratford and that Vazzy's special had plenty of zucchini, yellow squash, onions, and garlic in a garlic and oil sauce. Delicous!!! The Vazzy's on Broadbridge Ave needs to look at the foods they are preparing and perhaps try the meal themselves so that they are aware of the garbage they are serving. The last time that I went to the Broadbridge Ave Vazzi's I ordered gluten free pizza. That too was unfit for consumption. This was a second chance for Vazzy and it failed miserably. This was the worst place and their waitress was rude and prejudice towards my family. They did not serve my table bread and when I requested some bread, she dismiss me very negative, and waited over 1 hour and 40 minutes for our food. Also, they brought out burnt subs. Then ask for the check she told me to wait, by that time I was frustrated and left my money to pay with my sister. The waitress ran out the door and screaming did I pay for the check and I repeated what she said to mske sure I heard her. She raised her voice and said Yes! I told her I left the money at the table with my sister and she ask me was I sure. For this reason, it left me feeling angry to know the treatment was mortally wrong and the food was not good. read more

When the cat's away . . . If the owner isn't on site, forget this joint. We arrived at about 6pm and sat at the bar. During the hour we spent there, for 45 minutes, there was no bartender to be found. This is with a 35 foot bar, mind you. We waited for drinks, endlessly. But I suppose we should be thankful--we would have doubled our bar bill, if someone was there to serve us. When they did come over to serve us, they had to hurdle huge bus trays filled with dirty dishes--right in front of our seats. The bartender was vaping right behind the bar. In most States, this qualifies as smoking, but at least in most restaurants, it is unacceptable. The food? The pizzas are very doughy, and the worst sin any pizzeria can commit is not getting the oven to temperature. The center of the pie was a swamp of uncooked dough, soggy ingredients, and no character, whatsoever. This occurred on all three pies we ordered. Avoid the seafood pizza--there is not a whisper of the advertised "lobster" on that thing. It's basically a rubber calamari pie. Taxi! read more

Dinner May 2 Maybe I just went there on a bad night. But this is my 2nd time eating here and both times seem to be a repeat. I didn't go there expecting a gourmet meal of high quality foods and dapper, service. I know this is a local bar/family style restaurant which I love to frequent and truly appreciate. But the service was just not there. Took forever to take our order and even longer to get drinks, plates, clean glasses, silverware, napkins, etc..water glasses were always empty it seemed. We had one entree come out a good 10 minutes before the others. It just seemed like we were always asking or waiting for something and we were just there way too long. On the bright side, the portions are HUGE. Of the 6 people in my group not a one even ate half 1/2 of what was brought to them. And, more importantly, everyone seemed to like what they ordered. Pasta dishes and sauces were flavorful. Would rather they cut portion sizes in 1/2 and give you a salad with your pasta as a side. I guess if your a local this is your place, but for me, there are just too many other Italian Restaurants in the area to pass by to go here again. read more

This is a very nice, traditional (and unpretentious) Italian restaurant in a decent neighborhood in Bridgeport. We met friends who live in nearby Stratford and we thought the food was great and the prices were also very good. Our group had a variety of traditional Italian dishes including Jazzy's Special Chicken -- penne pasta with zucchini, onions, etc., chicken piccata, and lasagna. Have heard good things about this place for the longest time. I was going to be in the area with a friend for an event and needed a restaurant close by so Vazzys was the obvious choice. Sat in the bar area as there was a wait for the dining room. Service was a little slow. Our waitress was bartending and waiting the tables in the bar. She was very friendly though. The food also took a long time coming out. My friends meal was pretty good. She had the chicken Jordan, we both liked it. I had the linguini & clams with red sauce. Unfortunately probably the worst linguini & clams I have ever had. Linguini was mushy, sauce was on the lighter side, not your traditional red clam sauce and didn't have much taste. I have had good and bad experiences here. The food is good but the waitresses can be super rude. The service is slow... I have waited for someone to acknowledge my presence at the front to be seated for over 10 minutes at times. Sometimes I can't even get water. I have never had a bad meal though. Where do I begin--Lets start with the entrance--2 doors to enter and exit and they are 10 feet apart--hostess stands by locked door and door open to the public is 10 feet away YET everyone naturally goes to locked door since that is where hostess stands on podium--UNLOCK THAT DOOR!!!! That should have been our hint to NOT MOVE AHEAD at this joint. Ventured to Vazzy's on a holiday weekend when yelps, highly reviewed true blue Ralph&Rich's proved to be closed that Sunday (finally went there too and terrible disappointment!!) My other half had been to their Monroe location and he considered it to be solid food, well, this was solid CRAP! First off, place is cute and hostess was sweet and innocent. Waitress came to us pretty quickly (her last time doing that too) and was disenchanted that we wanted nothing from the bar but tap water. She came back and we ordered the fried calamari with cherry peppers and the Chicken SORRENTINO and the veal florentine. Fried calamari was brought out by our over enthused Madonna like waitress and right off the bat, it looked drowned in oil and far from crispy! We each picked up a piece and it left such an oil trail behind we did not proceed any further (marinara was good to this tho). Just for giggles, we picked up another piece and we could squeeze out the oil--thank goodness Saint Vincent's hospital was nearby for a quick Lipitor Ivy! We waited for our waitress who was pulling up her hair in a pony tail and never paid mind to us. The sweet bus girl saw our faces and our halt, that she addressed us and then sent us another older waitress who was on top of her game, attentive and took care of the matter. Eventually our waitress came back and apologized and assured us our meals were on their way shortly. Those came and his meal was a hairline better than the calamari and mine was probably in par or sub par to that of the calamari. The Chicken had a wee bit of flavor but everything was lost in the sauce should we say--could not taste eggplant or prosciutto. As for my veal--beyond bland and a great chew toy if I were a dog! The best is waitress asked us how everything was and we said it's just ok and nothing from her. Attentive waitress walked by and asked us a few times how we were and she could tell we were not at all pleased. My first time and last time! Maybe it was holiday weekend...but the lack of enthusiasm in the waitress was enough for us. read more

Went here on the recommendation of some locals. I don't know why they have three and a half Stars they deserve at least four and a half if not five. First let's start with my server her name was Sarah. Explained the entire menu answered any questions that I had and once I narrowed it down to two she gave me her recommendation. They start you off with a basket of two different breads including their delicious cheesy bread along with some olives and peppers and other accompanying items. I decided on the tortellini with creamy pesto sauce and I added chicken. It was absolutely delicious I just wish that I had more room for this huge portion. I surrendered about halfway through. The good news is you will have leftovers. I'm not from this area but it looks like the locals love this place and I certainly understand why. If you are traveling like me or are new to the area you must absolutely check out Vazzy's. By the way, they have a very large parking lot, a comprehensive wine and beer list as well as I believe a full bar. The bar seem like a very popular place though I did not experience it personally. I drive by Vazzy's but never thought to stop in. I don't know why because I was missing out on great food and superior service. As a woman of a certain age, going into a bar waiting for a friend, I am used to being ignored. That was not the case --with Gary the bartender. He treated me with the same respect he treated everyone else at the bar: the men in suits, the men in working clothes, the cute single girls and even me the older woman waiting for a friend. My drink and service was superb. But then I moved on to lunch in the dining area and was lucky enough to have Janet as my server. Janet is cute as a button and a superior server. She treated my companion and me with the greatest care. She's the type of server everyone wishes they had at any restaurant. I hadn't been to Vazzy's in years as I live some distance away. The food was very good. Ordered the Mullana - chicken and eggplant with pine nuts and garlic in a white sauce. It was so good I'm eating if for breakfast. The other members of my party all took home doggie bags because the portions were huge. A member of my group ordered the stuffed sole. It was phenomenal stuffed with big chunks of lobster and very tasty. The portions are big and the prices are fair. A great neighborhood joint. Good job! read more

Been going to Vazzy's for years, and I've also been to the Stratford, Monroe and Shelton locations. This one has a serious staffing issue - both at the bar and in the dining room. Basically, if you aren't a "regular" you don't get service. The food is consistently good (not great!) but the service is consistently bad. Noise level is ridiculous, too. My family and I went to Vazzy's this past summer for a reception after the funeral for my father. The staff could not have been more compassionate, understanding and helpful during this difficult time. The hostess and waitstaff that took care of me and my extended family were phenomenal. I don't understand what all the hype is especially with so many Italian choices. I've had grinders here.. Ahh not bad not the best. I have had pizza here ahh not bad not the greatest. I think you see where I'm going here, the other night had two family service of two specialty pasta dishes and frankly I think they could of done better, taken more care when putting it together. I normally don't comment on Yelp however I found this place on here so I might as well share my experience. I visited the restaurant on a busy Friday evening. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile. The hostess was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for a table considering how busy it was. As soon as we sat down, we were given an amazing bread basket that included cheesey bread and peppers. The food was amazing and the portions were HUGE. I have to say I was impressed with the food, service, and most of all the waitress. I will be going back again soon. If your in the area definitely give this place a try it's VERY well worth it! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch. I ordered their signature sandwich. What a disappointment, never again. It was supposed to be chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and prosciutto with balsamic. First of all it's served on Arthur Ave bread. The cutlet was very thin and deep fried. It was so greasy it absolutely ruined that wonderful bread. The sandwich was very poorly made. Besides the unwanted grease it came with ZERO roasted red peppers. I had to get a side order to put on the sandwich. Then I realized that there was no balsamic vinegar on it at all , none. I had to ask for that. The waiter brought me a vinegar that leaked all over at the top, it should go in the garbage , not to a customer to use. I thought how can you not make your signature sandwich correctly, how hard is that. I guess the kitchen staff didn't give a darn. There were no other customers in the restaurant, so they weren't busy at all. The kitchen was way over staffed. Usually if your order is messed up a manager will come out. No one came to see what the problem was. I guess the management doesn't care about the product at all. I will not ever go back again. I can get a better sandwich in Stratford at Guaitano's. They have Arthur Ave bread and their cutlets are made in house and are never greasy. Vazzy you get a fail for product and management. The best part was our waiter who was very nice. If not for him I might have just pushed the plate aside and walked out. read more

I'm a freelance production assistant who's worked on a various amount of tv shows and programs but nothing's more stressful than having to pick a place in a location you're not familiar with and order lunch for a crew of about 15. In July, I came across Vazzy's and was skeptical about the mixed reviews. When I called, a woman walked me through the catering menu, offered different selections and made sure I was happy with the order. When I went to pick it up, I was greeted with warm smiles I was told what was in each tray and container and even had help to my car. The crew and myself all raved about the food and the producer Tammy was really impressed. I don't know why the reviews were so mixed but I can honestly say that Vazzy's has some of the best food and service I've ever encountered. read more

If there was a zero star option I would have chose it. The only positive thing was our waitress was very nice. I remember eating here years ago and it was decent food, so I had no issue with stopping in for dinner because we were in the area. The food was a sodium overload of grossness. The chicken Parmesan was a fake processed piece of chicken parts you would find in a TV dinner. The pizzas were completely raw, you'd be better off ordering Dominos. The only good thing was the fresh lettuce in my Caesar salad. I ordered the dressing on the side which was probably a good idea. I can almost guarantee it would have been drowning. Vazzy's is typically top notch and there is never anything to complain about so do not allow this one review to sway you. This evening I ordered a take out order, I understand everything is a little chaotic with carry out only. However, it is not a reason to have a drop off in the quality of your product. The original vazzys boasts about having the best calzones and even says so on the large sign on the front of the building. Tonight I ordered a sausage and broccoli calzone. Upon taking it home ( six minutes away) we opened and cut Into the calzone and it began leaking a lot of liquid . It appeared that either the broccoli was frozen and just thrown in and baked or it was sautéed and was soaked in oil thus causing the entire calzone to be a leaky, soggy mess. I am usually very satisfied with the food from here, but tonight was a complete turn off and makes me rethink to call in another order in the future. read more

You're better off buying a $3 jar of pasta sauce and dumping it on a $1 boiled pasta--that would taste significantly better. I couldn't believe how bad it was. Total waste of money!!! And for $16?!?
