I was feeling a bit nostalgic about this place. When my parents lived here they would often get pizza from here and I would have a slice or two when I visited. My parents were in town so I decided to take them for lunch. The place was empty so finding a booth was not a problem. The dining room is exactly how I remember from the 90's. The young lady taking care of us was quick and attentive. We ordered a large half cheese and sausage pizza. It brought back great memories but the crust was a bit limp. I prefer a crispy crust. So I pass this place every single day for the past two years and have never thought of checking it out. My mom and I decided to go in today and wow just wow. The place is so big and clean, friendly staff and the food was excellent . Made fresh and tasty and the portions were great. You be the judge. I walked in and was informed by a young girl that they were only accepting cash. I then asked if the store could break a $100 bill. An older gentleman stated "yes" from the register. I ordered $19 or so dollars worth of food. I paid with a $100 bill but received coins back. The man insisted that I paid with a $20 for minutes but I had no twenties in my wallet. I ended up calling the police as I am too old for irrational behavior. The police took so long that I just left. So folks, a small pizza and a grinder cost me $100. The one lesson learned here is that it is 2021. Use credit or debit. If a merchant cannot accept plastic, then leave. It is a shame. I really liked their food but this is the end of our customer/merchant relationship. read more

I ordered a full grill chicken and half jalapeños pizza. When I received my pizza only had jalapeño around one side of the crust and maybe a piece or two towards the middle. When I brought it to their attention instead of adding more to actually make it half he told me there was nothing wrong with it and threw his hands up in the air. Seeing his attitude with no attempt to fix it he told me to go to another pizza place next time. I didn't want to argue so I told him "okay no problem". He said something about he should of locked the door but instead he let me come in? I was confused because it's not even 5pm or closing time. He told me about 5 times to go to another pizza place. Ordered a couple large pizzas for take out last week - one cheese and one sausage. Both pizzas were good but not extraordinary. I didn't order anything else, so I can't critique any other items. Honestly, my favorite pizza place on the planet. Hands down. It's been my childhood favorite and my adulthood favorite. Ive eaten thousands of pizzas in different places and states, and still, I prefer a pizza pie from Captain's over any other. Personally, I prefer the Greek-style pizza over Italian (fight me about it!) and that's exactly what Captain's offers. The crust is much more buttery, yet crispy without breaking your teeth. The red sauce is bursting full of flavor and it's always the right amount. Not too wet, and not ever dry. The cheese... oh the cheeeeese! I admit, I don't know exactly what kind of cheese or cheese blend they use but man, is it good!! Perfectly squeaky, stretchy, and gooey. And they don't skimp out on it. No sir. Then there's the multitude of fresh toppings. Onions, peppers, pineapples, broccoli, spinach, mushrooms... you name it, they have it. All the fresh veggies and meat toppings you'd want. They also offer a variety of amazing tasting Greek and Italian cuisine. Souvlaki, eggplant parm, gyros, calzones, shrimp scampi, spaghetti and meatballs, wraps, burgers, salads, grinders and so much more! Always a very generous portion too, these guys love to feed you!! The restaurant itself is always clean with plenty of seats and tables to accommodate any size party from single folks to large groups. Almost every time I've gone in (Boston ave location), the owner, Dimitrios, is in the kitchen making magic. As busy as he always is, he always makes time to chat and joke with his customers. He's always striving to make his restaurant better so he takes customer complaints very seriously. Whether dining in, or picking up an order, I've never had a negative experience at Captain's. The food is always phenomenal, the service is always great. I've moved away from Bridgeport 10 years ago but every time I come back home, Captains Pizza one of the places I *HAVE* to visit. I had ordered 3 calzones this evening. 2 sausage and one meatball. My daughter and my wife had the sausage. Me. The meatball. I was very hungry and ate the 1st half. The second one had a taste of the smell of mold. Seriously! And that was very unpleasant. I threw it out and brushed my mouth extensively. I still have that mold taste. Stopped in here for something to eat after no being able to eat all day. I need a gluten free option and it's 2019 just about, everyone has them! At the very least you can get a salad or a burger without a bun right? Well here they offer no gluten free pizza the way everyone else does. They offer no gluten free buns or pasta they way everyone else does! Ok and then I'm told their salads and everything are not gluten free. After correcting the people that salads are and burgers without the buns are etc, this young man comes over and rudely and sarcastically informs me that the waitress is aware that vegetables are gluten free! "Oh I think everyone knows vegetables are gluten free." Oh no jack! Many people have no clue what it is! He was so rude! And then after I kept stating I needed more time to figure out what to get and whether I was going to cheat and have something I shouldn't, he says "where are you from? I told him and he replies, well didn't they have anything gluten free?" "You should just go back there and eat." Oh my God what an a******! How incredibly rude of the little jerk! This place will be closing soon considering the fact it's Friday night and it's dead and "the help" there is insolent and rude. I found it necessary to take the time out to write this review in detail because I was very bothered by my experience at this establishment. I came here years ago when I used to live in Bridgeport. I recalled that I really enjoyed their food. So, when I found myself back in town I jumped on the opportunity to share the great food with a friend. I was really excited to order, and to share my old favorite restaurant with my friend, whom had never visited this place before. Immediately, we started to see red flags. We were not acknowledged by the waitress for about 15 min. We walked in, and were not greeted at all. I noticed the menus were on the counter so after a few moments of awkwardly standing around we decided to just grab 2 menus and seat ourselves. There was a couple sitting in the booth next to us. They were the only other patrons in the restaurant. The waitress finally came over to check in with the booth next to us, and noticed we were seated. She bleakly asked us for our drink orders. She brings us our drinks, and we placed our orders. I ordered a small cheese pizza and a tossed salad with chicken. I also requested shredded mozzarella cheese to be melted over the chicken. My friend ordered a burger and fries. It took another around 45 min for the food to come out. The waitress brings the pizza out first. I bit into it and was immediately disappointed. It was nothing like I remembered. The crust was soggy. I was pretty hungry after the excessive wait time though so just ate the pizza. Next the salad and the burger come out. I immediately notice that the salad didn't have cheese on it like I requested, but the waitress walked away so briskly, I didn't even have the chance to inform her of the mistake. I finally got the waitresses attention and politely asked her if the shredded mozzarella could be added to the salad. She said ok and processed to the kitchen. About 5 min later she came out, and asked me what type of cheese I wanted again. When the salad came out, there were two slices, not shredded, but slices of cheese barely melted on top of the chicken. At this point I was pretty frustrated, but I decided to just take a bite. The chicken was very dry and it was struck to the cheese that had gone cold. One bite was all I was able to take because I was extremely unsatisfied. My friends burger was literally two slices of bread with a burger in the middle. There were no condiments, no lettuce, just 2 pieces of dry bread and the burger patty which was brought to our table cold as well. I was extremely frustrated and disappointed, and upset that I had promised my friend a great dining experience, and he was disappointed. I explained to the waitress that we were not satisfied with the burger ane the salad. I showed her that I had taken one bite out of my salad and my friend had taken one bite of his burger. I told the waitress that she could take the burger and the salad back and that I had no problem paying for the pizza and the burger but didn't feel like I should have to pay for the salad since it was made incorrectly. The waitress came back with the bill and told us she could not take the salad off the order. She didn't offer me anything else off the menu, she simply said I'm sorry but since the cook made the food, you have to pay for it. Now the owner comes out huffing and puffing and walking up to us very aggressively. He was EXTREMELY rude and spoke to us in a very demeaning manner. I explained to him that the salad was made incorrectly, and I didn't feel I should have to pay for it given I only took one bite but I was happy to pay for the rest of the food. He told me he would not take the salad off the bill because they do not do that at this establishment. He asked me if I would like something else, but at this point I was so upset by the way he was speaking to me, I just wanted to leave the restaurant immediately. He ended up taking the salad off the bill but he told us we were no longer welcome at the restaurant and that he hopes we find a dining establishment somewhere else in the future that reaches our standards better. I have NEVER been treated like this or spoken to in this manner at any establishment. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Terrible experience. read more

So I ordered my food and went to pick it up...get home it's the wrong order the pizza was right but instead of wings I got French fries...I called twice and the phone got hung up or disconnected. So I had to drive all the way back from my house to the pizza place.. I calmly told him that the Order was wrong. He accepted that he was wrong and that he offered to give me food but not my money! That was 18 and some change! I ate one slice and offered to pay for that once slice. I personally didn't want to wait for the food (loss of appetite) or feel it was fair that he not offer me my money back. So I said ok and said I not want nothing. So he got the food and money! He should have given the money back or offered because I had to drive 15 min across town 4 times. This isn't the first time my order was wrong but this is the last time! He lost a customer! Him giving my money back would have been the right thing to do! So last time he gets my money. read more
