We came here on a weekday to try a-la-carte items and on a weekend to try their unlimited vegetarian thali served on banana leaves. After a long time, I loved the experience of eating on a banana leaf, as I had never had anything like this back in NC. We felt that the regular menu was more flavorful than the weekend thali, as the weekend thali had less salt in all the dishes. I understand they do this on purpose so people who need salt can add it, but overall, the a-la-cart items were tastier. Their Chennai Chili Cauliflower was amazing. I also loved the Okra Kara Kuzhambu, Poori Kizhangu, and Chettinad Veg biryani. The service is on point, and the place is very clean. I loved the simple decor. It's a small, cozy place with great food. We will be visiting here later! read more

Food was good. I tried the vegetarian thali. Service was good except after we ordered fried chowmein for my dad. Later the server said it will take another 20 mins only after other's food had already arrived. So we had changed the order but still took another 5-10 mins for my dad's food to arrive. My husband and I stopped by Vedha tonight after searching the area for Indian food and we're so glad that we stopped by in person to eat at the restaurant! I've been a bit sick so I didn't have too much of an appetite and we'd been debating whether we should just order to go, but eating in allowed my husband to experience the unlimited banana leaf meal that this restaurant offers on weekends, and he had a great time. Since I didn't have too much of an appetite, I opted to just order a mango lassi and the fried fish appetizer, which were both great. The fish was fried very well, super flaky without too much breading, and the lassi was creamy and sweet. But the real star of the show was the banana leaf meal -- you get a rotating selection of various curries, appetizers, rice dishes, and breads, and my husband was able to try a lot of different things that he never would have known to order. Some of his favorites of the night were the dal, the paneer masala (which is what he had been hoping to order anyway), a spinach and chickpea dish, poori, mutton curry, and kesari. The owner and all the staffers were super helpful in suggesting dishes and sides and sauces, and the service was great; they kept coming back over to replenish his tray, answer our questions about how to eat certain parts of the meal, and make sure that we were doing okay. Things do get a bit messy because you eat everything with your hands, but aside from the bathroom there is also a specific washing area at the back of the restaurant where you can wash your hands to make sure they're clean after you've finished eating or in between different parts of the meal. Most amazing part is that the price of the unlimited meal was only $20! And they ask if you have any requests so you can get more of something you enjoyed or try something new. Highly recommend this experience for anyone who is open to trying different dishes that they may not have before for a great price. Went in blind for a late lunch while furniture shopping. Menu has all of the south Indian standards both Veg and Non-Veg plus a few less common items but trenda towards an authentic palate. I loved the Andhra chicken curry and my wife and son enjoyed their usual CTM. They brought us a payasam for dessert and my son is now asking it to make it for him at home. Ambiance is still a bit of work in progress but food more than offset that. Table next to us had the AYCE thali options (available on the weekend) which was intriguing--brought to the table rather than served buffet style. read more

My husband and I were visiting family near Dallas. We were craving curry. We found Vedha's Kalyana Virunthu and drove from our hotel in The Colony for a late dinner. We are babies when it come to spicy food. The staff was helpful and the lowered the spice level. We had several dishes. Everything was delicious. The chef was very kind and made sure we were happy with the food. He offered us some fresh sweets also that we loved. We will return when we are back in town. We will also let family know. read more

I came for the weekend thali and had the non vegetarian option. It was really good .every thing was cooked well. Not too spicy , which is usally a negative for me but not this time . This is an old school Indian thali , they keep bringing you food on the weekend and it's all you can eat. Everyone was eating with their hands so I didn't ask for silverware. This place should be reported to the city's food safety committee and environment department. They are blatantly and intentionally with full knowledge of their unethical business practices service stale and expired food and we got their employees to admit it. On Sunday July 28th we were 6 adults and a child that decided to dine in here reading all the reviews (most of which are now obviously fake and paid for). First the place was empty which seemed odd since they open at 12 and we went their around 12:15 pm. We were seated and they began to serve the food. One of us was vegetarian and the rest opted for the nonveg meal. The veg and chicken biryani smelt stale and awful, so we immediately called them and ask them what happened and the rest of the food that is served on a plate with a leaf was tasting and smelling weird. One of the four ladies at the establishment quickly tried to cover it up by taking the food away and then came back apologized saying the food was made at 6 am and by 12 pm when the restaurant opens something may have happened which obviously was a lie. We pushed back on her because the child in our group could have suffered significant food poisoning and at this point, she spilled the beans stating that the food was made at an outside place and brought here the previous day and refrigerated with no guarantee as to when it was prepared. HOW COULD FOOD ESTABLISHMENT BE THIS UNETHICAL?? She then went on to state that for the incoming customers after us they were preparing fried rice to serve instead of the expired food but as we were leaving four people walked in and they served the exact same stale food and we could see the immediate reaction on those customer's faces. NOW this place is still the KUMAR"S restaurant they just changed the name so you probably don't want to go eat at Kumar's too which is the same stale food run by the same unethical business owners. They claim to be a kalyana virunthu restaurant which when translated in English means a wedding feast ... clearly there is no feast and no decent human or food here. And they still had the audacity to charge us $22 per person for the food we never ate. This place should be penalized shut down and the owners brought to justice for putting their patron's lives at risk with stale expired meat. read more

My family and I had dinner thali on friday. The whole family enjoyed the food. The veg dishes, fried chicken, biriyani, puri and parotta were delicious. Food is a bit on the spicy side, which we didnt mind at all. The chef/owner and the other staff were attentive and was always available for questions or just to serve us. I don't usually write any reviews. But, this place deserves one for sure! This is by far the best truly authentic South Indian I have had in Dallas area. Every dish served had a homely touch and taste. The service was excellent. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try especially if you had tried them with old management.
