    Ambur Chicken Biryani
    Anvaya N.

Madurai Mes is a southern Indian cuisine restaurant that specializes in Ambur style chicken biryani. Ambur chicken biryani is a flavorful South Indian dish that originated from the town of Ambur in Tamil Nadu, India, under the patronage of the Nawabs of Arcot. It is known for its distinct aroma, milder spices that Hyderabad style biryani. Madurai Mes also has some great Kotu parrota. The place is not fine dining but simple. The restaurant is not upscale but more hole a wall. Do not go here expecting fine dining experience. It's also not known for chicken tikka masala. Indian cuisine is diverse with specialized dishes from each region so please do not go everywhere expecting your stereotypical Indian fare. Service is fast and no frills just the way I like it. If you would like to broaden your Indian food palate definitely try them out.

If you're craving authentic Tamil Nadu style thali or delicious mutton/chicken biryani, Madurai Mes is the place to go! I tried their Bhai Kadai Mutton Biryani ($16.99) an absolute banger, full of flavor and perfectly spiced. The Ambur Chicken Biryani ($14.99) was amazing too, especially when paired with the salan and curd pachadi. A must-try if you're a biryani lover who enjoys exploring different regional varieties. Their Biryani Combo ($23.99) is totally worth it,it includes one chicken biryani, one mutton biryani, fish fry, chicken fry, and a sweet. So damn good and easily enough for two people! Also tried their Veg Thali, which was good as well. Highly recommend this place for non-veg lovers looking to experience authentic Tamil cuisine. The service is good, though it can get crowded over the weekends, so be prepared for a short wait to get your table. Attached are some snaps from my visit!

We had dinner at Madurai Mes on a Saturday night. The restaurant was bright and spacious with plenty of seating. We ordered the special chicken dosai and the mutton dosai. We also tried the lollipop chicken and Hakka noodles. All the dishes were very tasty. The dosai dishes were slightly spicy but tolerable. The green chutney with the lollipop chicken was excellent. I highly recommend Madurai Mes especially if you have a group that needs both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

I've been here twice so far and it's already my favorite Indian spot in DFW. The menu isn't the most user-friendly (there aren't many pictures or descriptions), and the servers don't always know how to explain every dish -- but honestly, that's part of the charm. It feels authentic and transports you right out of Texas. I've even ordered a few things accidentally and they all turned out incredible. As a non-meat eater, I really appreciate how many delicious vegetarian options there are -- the menu is huge and everything I've tried so far has been outstanding. It's a 5-star spot for sure -- but on my personal Sami Scale, where 10s are mythical, this one comes in at a 8.9

We found this place close to Frisco and wanted to visit this for a quick bite. This place offers multiple different food items from Chennai or Tamil Nadu. This place is not packed. It has a lot of space and the staff is super friendly. They made sure that Weaver assisted very soon and the food was coming very fast. I did find the food to be a little spicy, but I think it's delicious for Indian crowd the ambience of this place is very neat and clean. They make sure that the tables are perfectly set for guest to start enjoying their meal.

Excellent service and delicious food. Paratha and dosa are made very well. Curry Chicken was my favorite. The dipping sauces made the experience more enjoyable. My favorite was the tomato, onion, and tamarind. Madras Chilli Califlower is an excellent choice as well.

We stopped for lunch for Monday afternoon! We wanted to try their lunch thali. As soon as we stepped in, we could smell the off putting cleaning supplies smell which was very strong smell. We still decided to sit and order. Ordered Non Veg thali and Veg thali. Both came with free refills on everything except chapathi. Appetizer and curries tasted very good! We did get refill in some of the items. It is worth the price, but the smell is the only reason for removing 3 stars. Otherwise worth the price

Go here for authentic South Indian food ! We've become a regular! Weekend Thali is very nice, variety of items in a single dish. Attention Seafood Lovers; they just added Seafood Platter ! Try it before it's gone ! It's not on the Menu, offered temporarily as a Special, a whole pomfret grilled, a big slice of fried Sear fish, Shrimp 65 , enough to feed two with a bowl of rice

I was visiting this spot for the first time, and I m glad to find another good option to have good south Indian food in this area. I went for lunch today and tried lunch thali; I would say it was an authentic lunch. I ordered their veg thali and non-veg thali. Each thali has a roti, papad, and sweet. Veg thali served with two different curries, vegetable rice, paneer butter masala, sambar, and rasa,m with two other fries curries. Nonveg thali served with chicken curry, mutton curry, chicken fry, mutton sag, and fish curry. I would say no to the vegetarian thali, as all the items are not flavor full or delicious. I only liked the panner butter masala and rasam with their one fry curry. Nonveg thali all things are good in taste and was flavor-packed. The spice level was mild. The atmosphere and ambiance were good. The staff was helpful and attentive. Service was quick. If you are planning to have non-vegetarian food, then this place is suitable for you. Vegetarians, You would be disappointed.

I really enjoyed a few dishes here! Ambience and Service: The restaurant is kept need and servers are ready to help even had a busy time. Food: i loved the ambur and thalapakattu biryani the most out of all biryanis. Kotthu paratha is gooe. Pepper chicken appetizer was really good. I did not like the chicken 65 and paya soup as they lacked flavor. The meat thali was good too!

T To start with their service is grossly incompetent & food was inedible!!! We ordered couple of soups and Naatu Kozhi Varuval (country chicken fry) as appetizers and ordered parota and chicken salan and chicken fried rice for the main course. Soups were good. In the menu it was saying "all the soups served with crunchy fried noodles" . I asked the guy who served us soups that we were missing the fried noodles on the side, he spaced out for few seconds and told me that they were out of fried noodles, when I noticed just then his colleague bringing noodles to another customer. It's fried noodles!! You fry noodles ands serve them along with some soups. Not that you buy them fried from the store!!! It's just so stupid of the guy to say we are out of noodles today but can serve a dish with noodles. He was super lazy!! I called other guy who took our order and asked for the missing fried noodles and he said he would check on it and never showed up!!! Our soups were getting cold so we ate them without fried noodles. Secondly the Naatu Kozhi Varuval was a regular chicken that was tossed with different type of spices and salt absolutely was inedible and had no flavor besides being spicy and salty. I have a high tolerance to spiciness but this was not fit to eat. Supposedly Naatu Kozhi Varuval should be dry but this was semi wet. You are using the word naatu kozhi and serving them regular chicken. It's like the menu saying we serve salmon and when ordered you receiving anchovy !!! Deceiving the customer. Parota and salan was fine. Fried rice again missing salt and had no flavor. We had to take it home to make it atleast palatable!!! The staff is definitely spaced out, you find them receiving guests and showing to the tables and taking orders and go missing. They do not check on the guests if they need anything. But you find them walking all over the place spaced out like zombies not paying attention to the guest. The guy with messy hair, girl with glasses and another guy with little beard serving food are the ones that need proper restaurant etiquette. (They were on your Saturday night shift) We had a disappointing dinner with spaced out incompetent staff and awful food!!! Never going back again or recommending it!!!

Non-Veg Thali Lunch only for Lunch

It is my first time here. We were greeted the moment we came in. We arrived closed to when they open for lunch on Saturday, and people trickled in after us pretty quickly. This is my first time having Indian filter coffee, and it was amazing! I've only had thali one other time in my life, and this is a great comparison to what I remembered. I ordered the non-veg thali, and it was phenomenal. Come with an appetite because it is a lot of food. For my partner, this is his first time having thali, and he was impressed. He is already making plans to bring his friends and family here. This is a great restaurant with a chandelier and wall art. The owner also took the time to check on tables and see how everyone is doing. A few years ago, it was almost impossible to find anyone that offered Thali in DFW. This is a great surprise, and I cannot wait to go back.

Stopped in our way to Waco. We really wanted to have some thali and this seemed to be a new spot. They've actually only been open 7 months and have another location in San Antonio. We ordered two non-veg thali. There's a South Indian vs Bombay option. The differences are some of the sides and the heat level. South is more spicy. Our thali came with fish curry, chicken curry, butter chicken, mutton curry, rasam, sambar, paysum, fried rice, plain rice, channa salad, some chili chicken, a chapathi and papadam. The food was all good but I wish there were some more veg sides. We also had poori with channa. Really large poori and you get two. Lastly, we tried the kothu parotta with chicken. Tasty dish with some raita on the side. Large portions for all the food. Washed it down with some nice, sweet, thick mango lassi and a filter coffee. Service was quick and pleasant. The place got packed quickly. The decor is simple and the restaurant was clean. Funny thing to note- if you feel like you're eating fast and the food is getting caught in your chest, pay attention to the music. The music tempo in the background was so fast that we didn't realize how it influenced how quickly we ate. Works well for the restaurant to get people in and out fast but it's tough to relax and enjoy when you feel like you're in a race.

If you really know Indian food, you know there are levels to this. Most places serve what I lovingly call Campbell's Soup Tikka Masala. Super sweet, neon red, one note, wrong color, wrong consistency. Basically tomato soup with sugar and turmeric pretending to be a masala. It fills you up, but it doesn't make you pause and savor anything. Spice Grove Indian Cuisine is not that place. This is the real deal. The flavors are layered, balanced, and clearly cooked with intention. Not overly sweet, not dumbed down, just full of garlic, spice, depth, and that unmistakable "this was done right" feeling you get when Indian food is executed properly. We ordered a spread, saag, tikka masala, butter chicken, korma, vindaloo, garlic naan, and honestly there wasn't a weak dish on the table. Everything had the right color, the right texture, and the right punch of flavor. This is food you slow down for. I won't say this is the single best Indian food I've ever had, I reserve that for a few heavy hitters like Dishoom and Brigadiers in London and Chola in New York City. But if those are 10s, this is a very solid 8.5, and that is high praise. They're busy for a reason. You cannot go wrong here. If you love Indian food, or want to understand why people love Indian food, just go. You'll leave happy and probably already planning your next visit.

A place that promises a mix of South Indian classics along with Indo-Chinese favorites always piques my curiosity. So we decided to stop by and give it a try. Located in Frisco, Texas it is fairly easy to find. Parking was also manageable, which is always a plus. The place has a casual and welcoming vibe, nothing overly fancy, but comfortable and inviting. Even on a Tuesday, the place was packed. Fortunately, we had called and reserved a place. The décor leans toward a traditional Indian restaurant feel with a simple setup that keeps the focus on the food. We were soon seated and provided with Fryums, which we finished within a minute. The server wad happy to answer questions about the menu. We decided to explore a variety of items from different sections of the menu and the food came out at a reasonable pace. We ordered: 1 Mushroom ghee roast 1 Baby corn manchurian 1 Onion chilli uttapam 1 Benne dosa 1 Chole bhature 1 Set dosa with salna 1 Jackfruit biryani The 'Mushroom ghee roast', was truly excellent with great flavors. The mushrooms were nicely coated in the rich, spicy ghee roast masala, delivering that bold South Indian punch. Next came the 'Baby corn Manchurian',, a classic Indo-Chinese favorite. The baby corn had a good crunch and the sauce had that familiar tangy-spicy flavor you associate with hakka cuisine. For the dosa section, we tried the 'benne dosa', which had a nice buttery flavor and crisp texture- simple yet satisfying. The 'Set dosa with Salna' was soft and fluffy, and the salna added a nice aromatic gravy element to the dish. The 'Onion chilli uttapam' was thick, soft, and generously topped with brown onions, making it a comforting bite. All the above South Indian dishes were great but what blew us away was the 3 chutneys: Tamarind, Spicy Tomato Chilli and Green Peanut. They were absolutely delicious and took the food to another level. The Sambhar however was decent but not that great. Moving to the North Indian side, the 'Chole bhature' came with fluffy bhature and well-spiced chole. We absolutely loved the depth of flavor. Finally, the 'Jackfruit biryani' was an interesting and enjoyable dish. The jackfruit worked surprisingly well as a meat substitute, absorbing the biryani spices nicely and adding a unique texture. However, some of us found it to be bit more on the tangy side. To Foodies: If you enjoy exploring a wide range of Indian flavors, from South Indian breakfast classics to Indo-Chinese appetizers and hearty North Indian dishes, this place is worth checking out. The menu offers variety, and it's a good spot if you want to try multiple styles of Indian cuisine in one sitting. To Management: You have a solid and diverse menu that covers many Indian favorites. Continuing to maintain consistency in flavor and presentation will go a long way. A few standout dishes highlighted on the menu or recommendations from staff could also help first-time visitors navigate the wide selection.
