Came with rice noodles and fresh vegetables. Edamame was pitiful. Looked old and were overcooked. Definitely not made from fresh beans, they were almost a brown-green color, and had brown spots on them. Gross. Young Chow Mei Fun - No where did is say online that this had fake meats in it. I was wanting a simple stir fried noodle but it was inedible due to the abundant amount of fake meat throughout the dish. Mixed Vegetables Rice Noodles - Actually had fresh vegetables in it, but there's no flavor. Absolutely none. It takes a heavy hand with soy sauce to get it to taste like something. Finally tried this place after years of watching my coworkers get it for take out. I guess if you're into greasy, over-salted Chinese food, this place is fantastic. But if your one of those vegans who actually eats healthfully (I feel like we're a minority in this age of vegan junk food), don't waste your money. I got the lunch special and made the mistake of choosing the hot and sour soup as an appetizer, and WOW. I think I figured out the recipe for the hot and sour soup: 25 packets of duck sauce, 1/4 cup of salt, 2 squares of cubed tofu and some pickled vegetables for extra salt. Holy crap, my mouth went numb! My lips still kinda tingle as I think about the sodium content of that molten orange goo. The soy chicken with string beans was standard takeout fare, nothing horrific, but nothing to write home about. $6.50 wasn't a bad price, but the thought of paying dinner prices at this place make me wonder why friends think its so wonderful. Two stars instead of one for pleasant service and the brown rice option. Oh, and decently sized portions. I wish I could give 2.5 stars. OK, fine, if you love meat analogs and skeezy take out, its a great deal. If you're one of these people, you'll make me a billionaire as soon as I figure out a way to veganize Hamburger Helper and Chef Boyardee and those freezer section disasters called "Hungry Man" meals. I would give the meal i just ordered from Vegetarian Palate 0 stars if I could. The General Tso's Chicken is the worst vegetarian meal I've had in the last 20 years. Granted I expected it to be something akin to VP 2's version since the Seamless menu said it came with roasted cashews. It's not in the same ballpark, the same league, the same universe as VP 2's. The 'chicken' is oddly shaped, weirdly textured and quite honestly tastes like it's gone bad. I haven't had worse cooked vegetables this side of a steakhouse. The broccoli was mushy and almost unrecognizable, and the mushrooms were hard to make out. When I called to discuss the dish and its contents -- no cashews - the woman who answered the phone was pleasant, but unhelpful. Perhaps the other dishes help rate this place higher. The noodle dishes besides the singapore mai fun are all bland, avoid those. And avoid all the dumpling-ish appetizers. Although it's vegetarian I don't think it's particularly healthy. But I wanted to give it a chance, VP has a huge menu so I called them to confirm the vegan-ness and found out that some of the items ARE NOT VEGAN where it is not indicated. confusing. i wanted something somewhat healthy and not full of gluten-y soy processed faux meats, so i settled on a juice, soup, and tofu rolls. Lets just say the drink is AWESOME, but you cant go too wrong on that. The corn chowder soup was made up of this thick, mucus-y, oily broth that disturbed me so I just ended up picking out the veggies. I wanted some fresh tofu rolls (garden veggies steamed in a thin layer of bean curd skin) and opened the box to find three sopping wet rolls sitting in what looks like half a container full of grease-sauce. Gross! i attempted to pick apart one of them and found them filled with oily vegetables and faux meat strips that I had been avoiding in the first place. Certainly not the steamed veggies and fresh tofu rolls I had been anticipating. All in all, pretty disappointing, save for the beverage. Whoa, surprise! I was going to a party in flatbush and needed some veggie food. we ordered online and it was ready when we got there, in like 15 minutes. The takeout portions were HUGE. I had steamed veggie dumplings and they were big and yummy and the dipping sauce was good. Used to order online all the time from SeamlessWeb - fair warning that it appears they are only taking orders by phone as this time. I've only ordered here for delivery, but they are a reliable favorite for that purpose. Being a quasi-connoisseuse of Chinese vegetarian cuisine, this place does a very solid job, better than most casual places I've sampled in New York and Philly, and better even than some fancier sit-down spots for herbivores. I feel so fortunate that they are located in Brooklyn, and that they deliver to my area. The menu is mostly a remix of Chinese take-out classics like beef & broccoli, with some junky seitan/soy goodies thrown in for fun, like the mock chicken nuggets, as well as some eclectic craving-targeted selections, like the "turkey" dinner. In my experience, the mock seafood dishes have been the mostly consistently tasty, although I've liked pretty much everything on the menu. Ultimately, the oil and sautéing that go into these sorts of dishes don't make for the lightest meal, but it it altogether delicious. My experience with omnivorous friends tells me that the dishes compete pretty well with their real meat counterparts, so I find this place entirely serviceable for a delivery order with carnivorous company. Meanwhile, if you're a vegetarian who misses staples like Ma Po Tofu or even a nice platter of Tilapia for dinner, this place is pretty much the best thing ever. read more

Every time I've ordered takeout from Vegetarian Palate I've enjoyed tasty food that is exceptionally fresh, warm, not-oily and that leaves me feeling healthy and light. I highly recommend the Mixed Greens Soup--it comes as a wonderful pile of lightly steamed vegetables in a box, accompanied by a container of soothing, warm broth. It is just what you need to get through a stormy evening. Also the appetizer of Steamed Spinach Dumplings are amazing -- green on the outside and filled with a tasty mix of bamboo shoots, mushrooms and cabbage. I've never had a dish like this elsewhere and it is a delight. The delivery is always on time (30 minutes max), and the chefs are patient and very flexible with requests like "add this" and "remove that". I am so lucky to live close to this place -- and I definitely recommend it to anyone, vegetarians and non-vegetarians. read more

The food was decent, but the delivery and customer service was lacking. I ordered online through seamless, and this restaurant had a delivery time of 15-30 min. I called after 40 min and the man was rude and ended up hanging up on me. Called again, and a women said the driver was on his way. After 1 HOUR, I finally got the food (which was cold.) My order was simple: garden salad and 'chicken' bites. The salad was actually pretty good size served with carrot ginger dressing (just okay) for $4.50. I really liked the breadcrumbs/crust on the chicken bites, but the fake chicken had a really weird, chewy texture - probably wouldn't get again. read more

This place is pretty effin' good. I had food delivered and ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce, brown rice and the nuggets (since everyone had been ranting and raving about them an hour prior). The nuggets were, for lack of a better word, slammin'! I thought Red Bamboo's bbq wings were the best but VP's nuggets are a very close second. A previous commenter mentioned that the food isn't as healthy as they had anticipated, and how they are vegan and weary of places that called their cuisine vegetarian. Well, as a vegetarian/vegan, 95% of my diet is dairy-free, does NOT contain processed, frozen and canned food and I really try not to consume animal products. With that said, occasionally I will indulge and eat out, who cares about the "greasiness" of the food or the faux meats (that's what they are, why complain?) The ONLY way I can maintain the latter diet is to cook for myself. You can't go to a restaurant and expect them to not use a certain type of oil, cook with non-soy or gluten-free ingredients or be automatically vegan when not indicated on the menu. Should have looked at the menu before going there, DUH. Anywho, I digress... Overall, this place is really good. I didn't have very much but I'm looking forward to eating there again to try more stuff on the menu. One of the better vegetarian spots I've been to. Maybe I was a little optimistic to think that a Vegetarian place would offer some options for us carnivores. So when my search for a Brooklyn spot that delivered "Shrimp" Pad thai noodles brought me here, I was ecstatic!! My excitement quickly turned into disappointment when I realized my meal was filled with tofu and a rubber like material the woman, I called to insist I received the wrong order, claimed was shrimp.. Maybe I'm asking too much but IF THE CRAP ISNT SHRIMP DONT CALL IT SHRIMP!!!!!! Once the cloud of disappointment passed I was able to remember how hungry I was and decided not to throw $15 down the drain but to eat everything except the "frimp" (fake shrimp) .... FAT CHANCE!! No no no no no. I came here last night, so I'm freshly wounded and writing this review. Honestly, this place is disgusting. I ordered the salad with a "cup of ginger dressing". The dressing came out and had a weird flavor. Not enough ginger. Too watery. Not fresh tasting. The water was infused with so much lemon (which was the standard, not an option), that it made you wonder if they were trying to cover up another taste. Also ordered a wonton soup and it tasted like vegetable broth with boiled bok choy and overcooked wontons. I ate the wontons out of it, and left the entire bowl of soup there. To refresh: I did not eat the salad. I did not eat the soup. I barely drank the water. Oh, and the lighting here is terrible. It feels like a cafeteria. And the decour looks like your grandmother's hallway. Not exactly where you want to take a date. In summary, just don't come here. Go to Dao Palate or Wild Ginger. But don't be fooled into thinking that this is another place like that with the same owners. It isn't. It's so so so much worse. read more

Vegetarian Palate has amazingly good, yummy, healthy food. I've been vegetarian for 8 years and am only now realizing the various ways seitan, tofu, and and bean curd can be cooked creatively and enticingly. I've never ordered food to be delivered from this place, but my sister and I have stopped in on several occasions to have their "chicken" nuggets, fish nuggets, and stewed eggplant. The place appears clean, a bit drab (but maybe they're going for subdued ambiance?), and the service is pretty good. I've ordered delivery from here a few times, but yesterday was the first time I'd been inside the restaurant. There were plenty of places to sit, 5 or 6 four-tops at least. The service was really unbelievable. I ordered crispy nuggets and a salad, and the very calm and nice man who was taking my order (who may be the owner?) told me I could get basically the same thing for much cheaper by ordering the crispy chicken salad. My lemon-y water was never empty. Everything was fresh and good, the nuggets were fantaaaastic and crunchy and the sauce was perfect. I'd added tofu to my salad, and I kind of wished it had been prepared in some way. It was just raw tofu sitting on top of the salad. It was fine that way, but I wished it had been marinated, cooked, seared, heated up, something. The salad dressing was great. I agree with one of the previous reviewers that the decor is not fancy, but I'd hope any date of mine would be more impressed with good service and food than decor. My boss treated me to a veggie take-out lunch so got my first taste of Vegetarian Palate... First note: healthy vegetarians/vegans aren't going to like this place...better off going to Blossom du Jour. If you're an unhealthy vegetarian or someone trying to be healthy but failing most of the time like me then you'll love this place! Portion sizes are huuuuge! Ordered the crispy fried nugget and the curry rolls thinking I was getting 2 small appetizers which would be a decent size for lunch. I was expecting that I would still be hungry afterwards but opened the containers and was like "oh man...there goes all the calories I burnt at the gym..." At least 8 nuggets came in the appetizer- I can't imagine how big the main course is! The curry rolls were big and thick! I was expecting those tiny small ass rolls Thai restaurants give you with a lunch special. They were also a lot unhealthier than I thought a curry roll would be. The description said vegetables and soy protein rolled in a curry sauce- nothing about it being fried. Not complaining though, they were still really yummy. What is up with all the rave reviews of the crispy fried nuggets?!! I found them to be way too chewy and too crunchy for my taste without much flavor. I get that fake chicken tends to be chewy but I can't help comparing these to the creole soul nuggets at Red Bamboo. Those are slightly chewy as well but the flavor is BAM! I'm counting how many times I have to chew 1/2 nugget to get it down and so far I'm over 20 chews....think it works better if you let it soften in your mouth first. Just finished eating the whole container and fake chicken overload!! best to share these with someone. Also...they're so crispy the top of my mouth is scraped from the fried breadcrumbs. Overall, I'd def order from here again because they have such a diverse menu and I think I'd enjoy the other options besides the crispy chicken meats. It's DEF not healthy food though. So, for what this place is, it is AWESOME! We went to nearby Flatbush Farm as birthday party guests, but we're vegan, so we just enjoyed a lot of bread and alcohol. During dinner, I Yelped for nearby Vegan and this was just a few doors down. When we finished dinner to move to the next bar, we swung by to pick up called-in General Tso's Chicken w white rice and it was SO good. My fiancé and I are torn over whether it was really, honestly good, or just late-night-drunk good, but friends who live in the area swear by this place. When I saw the food, I had to double-check with the hostess to make sure this was meat-free, and she said the whole restaurant is meatless. Everything. This place is -and I have only one experience of this eatery, but will definitely be back when visiting Brooklyn again- like a strip mall Chinese place like Panda Inn or China Garden. Same look and atmosphere inside. There's minimal, cheap decor and seating for maybe 20-30 people. But everything you might want from one of those strip mall Chinese places you can get here. Plus more. And it's all completely meat free. The General Tso's was perfect as I remember it should taste (vegan for 6 months) and delicious. It was like $10.95 for a dinner-size carryout and we chowed down as we walked to the next bar (Franklin Place). SO happy that one of my favorite dishes was brought back to me! I know they do carryout, delivery, and dine-in. Highly recommended, but don't approach this like it's hi-end vegetarian. I went on a Friday night before a show at Barclays with a friend and the place was pretty empty but the take out seemed to be busy. They get an A from the NY Health Board so that's, too. Anyway, on to the food! We started with salt and pepper chicken tenders and scallion pancakes - both were delicious and substantial, the sauces were good too. He got the chicken vegetable fried rice and I got the mango chicken. Now, I've had versions of mango chicken at a lot of V restaurants but this one was REALLY outstanding. The portion was ENORMOUS. If I wasn't starving and it wasn't my cheat meal (read: I'm eating the whole damn thing) then I would suggest splitting that with an appetizer. And because I'm a fat kid, we got the brownie cheesecake. I don't even really like cheesecake before I went vegan but this was also outstanding. I ate the whole brownie topping, too. My friend couldn't believe all of this was vegan. So for $40, two apps, two entrees and a dessert, that was REALLY a good meal.
