This place came much recommended and i was excited to pick it up. After having grasshopper Cafe in Boston I was excited to try a local place. The general tsos was so overcooked you couldn't stab it with a fork, the fried rice was broccoli crowns with tons of stem...whole kale leaves and brown rice with no seasoning. The sauce on the general tsos was tasty but it was just so overcooked it was hard to eat. My tofu delight was flavorless..needed salt and was just oily. the veggies needed to be cut up and the tofu seasoned in some way or marinated. We threw most of it away. They had all of the elements it was just executed so poorly. I want to try them again but I'm very wary as our first take out experience was so terrible. read more

This is a fun Asian inspired vegetarian restaurant with great drinks and a large menu. We started out with some of the apps all fantastic. The only thing was the portions seemed small for the price. Let me start off by saying...I am not generally a fan of vegan food. But I absolutely LOVE Veggie Fun! The location is great, it's so close to PPAC and JWU. The restaurant itself is clean, and the staff are always friendly. My favorite dish is are the Udon noodles, and if you get the lunch special, it comes with a spring roll and/or soup, all of which is delicious. Went here for dinner the other night with family and all of us really enjoyed the experience. For appetizers we got the steamed vegetable dumplings, spring rolls and a lemongrass soup (certainly spicy). Yay, finally somewhere I will actually eat again in Providence instead of the endless parade of 'ethnic' food catered to ravenous college students with underdeveloped palates. I shared the veggie dumplings, orange seitan, mango something, and udon soup with friends, and they were all good, with the exception of the mango, which is not my thang. I couldn't even finish my food, and although hwp, I can eat a lot. The server was friendly but a bit slow, and it's a bit tedious to have to ask for chili or soy sauce. Also, the back of our bench moved, so I kept getting annoyed by the people behind us who were apparently doing pilates or something, but i told myself, grrl chill out. Since it's pan-Asian, there are lots of different regional cuisines to sample (Malaysia, Singapore, China, Japan, Thailand etc). My best friend and I went here for an early dinner around 5 very slow at this time. She is a vegetarian so it was great to have a place with so many options. Alcohol Drink menu was very tempting but I ended up getting a mango iced tea. Color was a vibrant orange yellow. But it didn't taste as juicy as it looked. We decided to share 2 entrees, the stir fry udon noodles and basil soy protein. Both were really good, great flavors. We enjoyed our food but did feel a little rushed out which I didn't appreciate. we were doing a lot of talking and took our time because it was slow. my boyfriend and i had spent the greater part of a day wandering the RISD Museum and when we were done, we were huuungry. a quick google search led us to Veggie Fun, a no-brainer based on their byline, "Pan-Asian Vegan Kosher Restaurant". we arrived around 4:00 on a monday afternoon and the place was very quiet. the waitress had to come back a couple times before we could decide on what to order. everything looked too amazing to try! we decided on an appetizer of samosas to split. what came were 6 beautiful little golden pockets filled with a sweet mixture, heavy on the taste of sweet potato and tamarind. they came with a little side of a creamy mint sauce. a really delicious pairing. i got the Hot and Spicy Noodle Soup as an entree. i had asked to keep it on the mild side, because it was listed as spicy, but i wish i had just gone for the menu version. i ended up adding some red pepper flakes for a little extra heat. the broth had a wonderful savory/sweetness to it. the combination of ingredients was perfect: kale, bamboo shoots, pickles, black fungus, and sweet potato noodles. there seemed to be an addition of enoki mushrooms as well. the noodles were sweet potato (glass) noodles. the portion was quite big and filling. my boyfriend got the Kung Pao. it was a gorgeous plate of jeweled vegetables and the flavors lived up to their looks! for dessert, we split an order of banana spring rolls with chocolate soy ice cream. i didn't think i'd be able to have another bite of food after dinner, but once the spring rolls came to the table, i couldn't resist. they were decadent! in conclusion, we had a fantastic experience at Veggie Fun. the food was amazing, the service was very fast. the ambience of the restaurant was very comfortable. the portions were more than expected considering the bill, which was very reasonable. i would highly recommend a meal at Veggie Fun to ANYONE visiting Providence. read more

I am visiting Providence. I asked the hotel desk for a vegetarian restaurant. They pointed me to Veggie Fun. I walked 3 blocks and I got A GREAT VEGAN MEAL. What a luxury! I had the spicy orange seitan, Ginger salad, ginger ale and chocolate cake. $25 total makes it not cheap. But it was an unusually great vegan meal. I was really craving Asian food so decided to try Veggie Fun. The restaurant has a distinct Asian atmosphere and follows it up with bold flavors. I started off with the pan fried dumplings and devoured them. The salad was mostly iceberg but I decided not to cut a star as I experienced this at the hotel where I stayed, and guessed it is a local cultural thing. Bottom line: Great food, but mediocre service. Our family (4) sought out Veggie Fun for a pre-theater dinner on a recent weeknight. Surprised to find it was "Pan-Asian" as the name didn't indicate, and were concerned because one family member is allergic to soy and sesame. However, we found enough on the menu that he could eat to be happy. Food - Scallion pancakes and fried veggie Peking raviolis were perfect appetizers. Mushroom Seitan entree was very tasty, but sauce a little glue-like. Pad thai was surprisingly spicy but really great. Boston Lettuce Wraps had good flavor, but came with iceburg leaves instead of Boston, which didn't wrap as well. Overall, food was very good and we would return to Veggie Fun for that. Service - This is where Veggie Fun fell down. Our server seemed very tentative and unsure. Veggie Fun serves family-style, but we had to ask for individual plates to put our servings on. Then we had to ask for chopsticks. When we had to leave to make the theater curtain, we had to give our payment to another server because ours had disappeared. Overall, Veggie Fun was very good and we would return. But I agree with another poster that their menu is too heavily focused on meat substitutes. When there are so many great (pan-Asian) things you can do with vegetables, why all the focus on tofu and seitan? read more

This is the place to take your friend who is skeptical that a meal made just from veggies can actually have knockout flavor and be exciting to eat. The autumn rolls were spicy and hot and super flavorful. If your friend is afraid there won't be anything familiar to eat, the moo shu was as good or better than any Chinese restaurant (non Veggie Restaurant) moo shu I've ever had. Excellent first visit and I will be back. I was on the way home not looking forward to what there might be to eat there or on the way when I suddenly remembered I had the HappyCow app and looked up vegan restaurants as I drove through Providence. This is simply the best restaurant in Providence. We eat here at least once a week (sometimes more). When we have new people in town this is the restaurant we chose. More than not our friends are not vegetarian and they have enjoyed the food all the same. My biggest complaint with Providence is that restaurant scene (minus some of the italian food) could not compare to the Twin Cities, esp. around flavor. Not the case with Veggie fun where the food is filled with great flavors, many choices and is fresh. Not to mention the atmosphere, they create a big city feel in a small corner of Providence. Just ordered takeout as I am working in the library next door. I was hangry as I placed my order, but twenty minutes later, I was eating delicious grilled eggplant with string beans in my office. I am not a vegetarian but I love fresh food and this place is as fresh as it gets. The eggplant is cooked perfectly, not bitter or overdone, and the string beans are snappy and green. The rice mixed in perfectly and the green salad with it was fresh and the dressing delicious. I absolutely love it here. I enjoy the fact that I can order anything on their menu and never have to worry about a dish containing fish sauce or being fried in the same oil as meat. The waitstaff is very friendly, the restaurant is super cute and cozy and the location is convenient. Their faux meats are pretty fantastic and everything is seasoned just right. I think I have tried just about everything on their menu but must say some of my favorites are: Sweet-Citrus Soy Protein, Soy Skewers, Crispy Soy Nuggets, Bangcock Fried Rice with Pineapple and my absolute favorite that has become my "regular" dish is the Curry Veggie Noodle Soup. I came here last year and had a great experience. This time around, it was a different story. I was in a party of 6 adults and 2 children. When we walked in, the young lady that was sitting people was not attentive to us at all. We were trying to all sit and eat together and you could noticeably tell that she was annoyed. Once we finally got our table she did not give us high chairs for the children. When I asked her for them she said she did not have any for us. After discussing with my family we just decided to leave because it seemed like we were an inconvenience to them and I told her we would not need the booster seat she gave us anymore and she replied "just leave it wherever you want". I think she was upset that the restaurant was busy and she didn't seem to have much help but maybe if we were treated a little better next time we would not have left. read more
