This is the third time I have visited Amaryllis and I keep going back for the same reason- the food is spectacular. The menu rotates with a few constants, and the food is always flavorful and delicious. Today we had the spreads plate, which was a great starter, followed by the grilled octopus and the chicken thighs; all the food is so unique and nothing like anything else I have had in Providence. We finished the night off with the olive oil cake and vanilla gelato, a menu staple and my favorite! Besides the food, the ambiance is great and depending on where you sit you can watch your food being cooked which is cool! The service is great, and the restaurant is BYOB or you can purchase wine from the store next door. Overall, if you haven't tried Amaryllis yet you should go immediately because you'll regret not going sooner! read more

We had a lovely dinner at Amaryllis. They are BYOB and I appreciate that they tell you this when you DM them on IG to make a reservation. They partner with the wineshop next door so you can grab a chilled bottle ahead of your dinner. The bistro tables are so cute and love the bistro lights over Westminster. The seating does feel very weather dependent as the interior looked very small without the patio. The menu is small, but highlights some great seasonal options. Plenty of vegetarian dishes with some meat thrown in. The highlight for me was the cheeseboard. I'm not usually the type to order a cheeseboard, but this one did not disappoint. It had a great variety of cheese and the dark chocolate with honey was some of the best chocolate I've ever had. We got the pea pasta for a main and the pasta was perfectly done, the sauce wasn't super flavorful for me. So I'd probably stick to other dishes off their Summer menu. For dessert I'm a sucker for an olive oil cake and couldn't let this one pass me by. It was excellent! If you are into olive oil cake I highly recommend it. We also got the peach galette which was quite tasty as well. Overall a lovely spot where you can tell people care about the artistry of every plate that heads out the door. read more

After enjoying Providence's holiday market, we visited Amaryllis for the first time. Unfortunately, the restaurant's customer service was poor and dismissive. Although the appetizers (warm olives and butternut squash soup) were good, the pasta dish was overpriced and not as described. (It wasn't linguine.) We were charged a cork fee for a single can of beer and a confusing "custom amount" for soup, which led to an unpleasant interaction with the staff--who turned out to be the owners. The atmosphere was awkward, with a taped menu to the outside glass attracting pedestrians to shine their phone flashlight towards our table. (Plus some neglected décor. . .dead roses and lights that were broken on the wall above our table.) The rest of the small restaurant looked nice with lots of plants in the window--one of the main reasons we wanted to give it a try. Ultimately, the unfriendly, rushed attitude ruined the evening, and we won't be returning despite the tasty soup and sauce. Providence offers many better, welcoming options. read more

Make your way down here and just get a whiff of what they are cooking in this makeshift kitchen. It's pure magic! I had one of the best meals ever in this charming little restaurant. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone. I had the anchovies and Lamb Chops and topped off desert with some homemade chocolate (so yummy!) For a minute, I thought I was dining in Barcelona or even Tangiers. The flavoring and detail to their food deserves the praise given here. Wow! This place is fantastic. The setting is intimate but with great people watching on Westminster Street. The food is innovative, fresh, and beautifully presented. And the BYOB option means you can have what feels like an extravagant meal for little more than $100 for two. We had the salmon ceviche, baked saganaki cheese over fresh squash and pear, and crab risotto. And we still had room left for TWO fantastic desserts -- ricotta panna cotta with spiced pears dipped in chocolate and olive oil cake with lemon curd. Every dish we had was wonderful. Small but powerful. This eclectic menu draws from Asian and Mediterranean cuisine in interesting ways. A bread salad uses caraway seeds to give texture to corn and tomato while a salmon crudo includes Smokey grilled romaine as a foil. Loved the vinaigrette's on both. This place feels like a vegetarian restaurant with its emphasis on fresh produce but they do have a few meat mains and you can add on all kinds of proteins to their pastas and salads. Service is fine for this micro restaurant where the kitchen is the size of a small bedroom. You can see it all with a birds eye view if you sit at the indoor bar. We chose outside on a warm summer evening. It's byob but with the wine store next door its a breeze. You get great wines without the markup ... we had a lovely Sancerre. read more

What a fantastic experience at Amaryllis! I hosted a private wine tasting event for 8 people and couldn't be more pleased with our evening. Space is small and funky with a great casual vibe. Not a large spot at all, maybe room for 14 people around the open kitchen bar plus a few tables. Food was on point and highlighted local seafood, produce and meats. Portions are on the small side, but prices are very reasonable. Best part... it's BYOB! There's even a wine shop next door if you need a bottle. read more

Food was good however will never return due to the incredible rudeness of the staff. They made degrading comments about our table in front of us. When we questioned the point of the $5 "cork fee" when we brought all the necessary equipment to serve and store our byob wine ourselves, the 2 waitresses were deeply bothered and called us cheap. They continued to talk about us under their breath which we heard and they made the whole dining experience quite uncomfortable. The waitress also slammed the wine glass on the table. They had extremely hostile and petty attitudes while we racked up a $200+ tab. The ambiance was also very sad and quiet, and their dingy plug-in fan circulated several bugs and debris into our food and drinks. I suggest the 2 women running this restaurant learn proper customer service etiquette as their behavior is no way to treat patrons. I recommended this business but gave it 3 stars because it had huge potential but fell short in a few areas. We chose Amaryllis on New Years for an early-ish dinner to avoid the mess, later. The entire dinner was vegan which made me very happy. The starter was exceptional. It was a mushroom polenta thing (not the way the server described it) that was divine! Creamy, mushroomy, warm and satisfying. I was excited for a delicious, vegan meal. Sadly, things went downhill after that. We had a celeriac soup with apple and turmeric. It tasted good but was luke warm and not visually appealing, lumpy and a cement grey color. Hmmm.... The next dish was a kale and sea vegetable salad. Now I love veggies, all kinds of veggies, always. The kale was very hard to chew, almost impossible. It was tough, stringy and inedible. There was a small amount of warm-ish seaweed at the bottom of the dish with some sliced Persimmon on top. I love persimmon but when I got to the second piece, the label was still on it. Boo! The next dish was a mushroom pasta dish, very garlic heavy but raw garlic - why? Also, it was cold. Not intentionally cold, forgotten cold. Bummer. The next course of delicata squash with ginger was yummy. A bowl of tiny squash in a warm broth, perfect for a cold, rainy night. Dessert was chocolate pot au crème which was creamy though slightly grainy and solid. I did like the bitterness of the chocolate... Maybe we'll try Amaryllis again. I can't believe Amaryllis has been open for two years and we didn't know about it. Stumbled across it last night when our first choice had a long wait. Very happy we did. It's like eating in someone home - someone who is an excellent cook. The food was all delicious and not pretentious at all. Sardines, fatoush salad, and monkfish crudo to start, followed by crab polenta, chicken thighs and lamb chops. Everything was great but the crab polenta was amazing. Picked up a bottle of wine next door and finished with a peach tart. We sat outside which was mostly nice except for a few idiots driving by blasting music - nothing the restaurant can fix. I was kind of skeptical when they didn't have too many vegan/vegetarian options on the menu, and even more skeptical when they let us know that they were out of two of them (understandable because we came late on a weekend). Nevertheless I ended up having a delicious and special meal at Amaryllis! The restaurant is really small & intimate, with only maybe 15-20 seats, including the bar that surrounds the open kitchen. You can really watch your food being made! It's BYOB but you can easily hop over to Eno Fine Wines right next door. We had the warm olives, crispy potatoes, and the miso ginger rice noodle bowl with kimchi, mushrooms, and greens. It feels a bit stupid to order simple things like olives and potatoes at a restaurant, but even the simple things were done very well. The use of fresh herbs on the olives and potatoes was fantastic. The noodle bowl was also delicious; I really loved how they played with temperatures with the cold noodles and warm sautéed greens. For dessert they have a rotating seasonal crostata and one other option. The meal was a little pricey but well worth it. I'm surprised Amaryllis isn't getting more hype. This was a great meal, I would definitely come back soon since their menu changes frequently. read more

Easy 5 stars for me. My wife and I absolutely loved this restaurant. From the fact that it's so cozy, to the attention of the staff (who I believe are the owners), to the homemade yet elevated quality of the food itself. In many ways it reminded me of an authentic mom and pop high end izakaya of the type you'd find in Japan. In particular had a superb charcuterie platter, a sardine app, a chicken thigh entree, and olive oil cake. All delicious ... we scraped the plates clean, which we never do. Loved that it was BYOB. Food was fine. Nothing memorable. What was memorable was the rude staff. They set the tone for the night. I thought one of the women working there was rude, stuck up and quite pretentious. The restaurant is very small, there are no actual tables where people can face each other which is also off putting when you go out to have dinner. It really limits conversation when you are out with more than 1 other person. Providence is full of many wonderful restaurants where you can go and have a relaxing evening with good food and good service. This is not that place. I would not recommend to anyone looking for a nice night out. read more

I was very excited to try someplace new (to me). A cute little place! We had reservations for outdoors before the show at PPAC, but there was a slight chill in the air so we requested indoors, and were pleased that they could accommodate us right away. We chose a delicious appetizer of marinated feta, which perfectly hit the spot as we were very hungry. I chose the Kafta (which to my surprise were turkey and not lamb) and my friend got the Miso Ginger bowl. Both were very good and we were pleased. This is where it gets weird. To use the restroom, you need to take a pass, go next door to the wine store, walk through it to the apartment building behind it, and use the restroom in their lobby. While my friend did that, I observed the following health violations. So glad I had eaten first!! - I watched a waitress take a dessert cake to top it with powdered sugar. I watched as she placed her bare hand in the sugar to sprinkle it! As if this is not bad enough, I then looked outside to see the chef bring food to a table. She had gloved hands- I thought 'great'! Well not so fast! I then watched her move hair out of her eyes and touch her face with the gloved hand, open the restaurant door with the same gloved hands, and go straight back to the stove WITHOUT CHANGING HER GLOVES!!) I can't even put into words how great this food is. Do yourself a favor and go here immediately. We tried a few different things on the menu and every item was just as amazing as the last. I know the menu changes because it's farm to table but we got the spreads they had tonight, the cheese plate, a couple of entrees and the dessert. The cheese plate was so unique and well thought out.
