We literally had dish after dish and my kids couldn't taste the difference between this Chinese and Chinese we typically order in Westchester. Several years after I stopped being a vegetarian, we started coming here with our vegan friends. Back in veg times it would've been a 4 or 5 but now I can eat whatever wherever so the bar is set a little higher. I'd recommend you stick with the Chinese dishes as they were the most reliable of our order. The fake chicken with green beans had good seasoning and texture. The steamed dumpling filling was good but the dumpling skin was a little heavy. The tofu with 3 kinds of mushroom looked good but I didn't get to try. They have sushi which looked like the real thing although something that's not fish that somehow tastes like fish is a no from me. I'm saving the best for last. Maybe I should known better but I ordered the avocado hummus sandwich and it was something a rushed vegan teenager would slap together before they had to rush to school. You don't have to be a vegan or even a vegetarian to love Veggie Heaven (I am neither of those). There are several locations around NJ but this one is by far my favorite. If you love Chinese food but aren't a fan of the low-quality meat then you'll definitely enjoy Veggie Heaven. I love having the peace of mind that I won't find anything yucky in the "chicken". Depending on the dish that you get, you almost can't tell that you're not eating real meat. I've tried several of their "chicken" and "beef" dishes and they all have been great. They also have non-diary desserts and Thai iced tea. With the Thai iced tea you can even tell that it's not dairy! I really want to give 5 stars but I've only gotten food from here twice so i have to reserve the 5 star update until i try a few more items. The fact that this is pretty much the only vegan spot is a huge upside...and their food is really good! They make it very fast and it isn't crazy over priced. I've tried their vegan wings which were really yummy with their ranch sauce. A few of their "chicken" dishes are pretty good too. I tried their falafel last time and was a little disappointed, but it is asian food mostly so i shouldn't have expected it to be as good as Turkish or Greek places. I look forward to try a lot of other items. Their menu is huge and sometimes its a little hard to pick, so its just a matter of trying stuff till you find your favorite dishes and then order those every other day! The restaurant itself is really nice too, I'd definitely eat- in any time. Saw my friend Paul's ROTD and decided to add my 2 cents. Veggie restaurants are divided into two distinct groups, those who proudly embrace their vegetarianism by creating things that amplify their veggie characteristics and those who elevate it to the point where taste, texture and quality rival their non veggie counterparts. The former create dishes that mimic meat and poultry dishes without using meat and poultry. Being a carnivore, this is this type of restaurant I prefer. The problem is that dishes are rarely what they pretend to be, viable and delicious alternatives of things the rest of us would likely order at another restaurant. Instead, they're wilted, tasteless wannabees that we begrudgingly order because we're biting the bullet to break bread with someone who's an actual vegetarian on their home turf. Enter Veggie Heaven, a place which creates things so delicious that I can only assume a large contingent of their clientele are (gasp) not even vegetarians. The food is also fresh and unique. I love Veggie Heaven and invite my non veg friends to try it and love it. Love this place. I became a vegetarian and had no options anywhere. When I took a bite, it literally tasted like chicken. I had to ask our waitress to make sure. Ugh delicious. General Tso's is so delicious. Orange chicken is delicous. Lo mein is delicous. I wouldn't recommend the chicken wings tho, they're kinda weird. And the desserts! The slices of cake are awesome! Trying (key word TRYING) to change my eating habit I decided to finally go to Veggie Heaven. They are always busy, the reviews are great, and the food always looked good. Long story short (to late)... the food was amazing and the best part is that it was all veggie based. As their placemats clearly state "all our dishes are prepared entirely with vegetables and vegetable derivatives. Our "meat", "poultry", and "seafood" are made from ingenious blends if bean curd, taro root, wheat gluten, mushrooms, yams and other vegetables." We started with the buffalo wings app (which was main reason why I wanted to come in first place).. they were sooo delicious!! and just all in all such a relief to know that absolutely everything is vegan including ranch and sauces etc. we then got two dishes to share that was the crispy chicken meal with broccoli and brown rice and the walnut chx w/broccoli and brown rice- both extremely good, oh yea! we ordered another app of wings but the pineapple bbq flavor (which was good as well)... sooo full at this point but told my friend to not finish the main meals because I wanted to try their vegan cheesecake as well to split (that place is heaven for us vegans forealzzz..!) ..... we split the blueberry cheesecake and I can't say anything more great things about this place except that I know I'll be going back ... I've been coming to this restaurant (which I consider my second home) since I was 3 years old. I am now twenty years old and every time I come here I am just more and more impressed. I never get tired of this restaurant, I love everything they have ever made or let me try. The staff are extremely respectable and nice, especially Gary and Karen. I order from here often due to dietary restrictions. Their food is phenomenal. With certain dishes such as port fried rice or crispy beef, its hard to remember that there is no meat in the food. Their ginger soups are out of this world. Any time I feel low or like im coming down with something, I have some. Their wonton soup is also delicious. Roasted Chicken lo mein is in my opinion, the best noodle option and for fried rice, it would have to be pork fried rice. The wait time for food was awful. I don't understand how I expected an order in 15-20 minutes but for some reason the order took an hour. Granted it took some time but at least they made my order. Going to university around here (FDU) for a long time now (years), I wanted vegetarian food which was both unique, and tasteful, but that unfortunately was very scarce in my hometown (8 miles away) and had a majority of generic fast food restaurants, pizza joints, or lackluster restaurants. Whenever I would leave with my family to eat somewhere, it'll be the same result: Around 1/10th or less of the menu is vegetarian, and most places say that only a generic house salad is vegan (aside from generic veggie/black bean burgers), so it's tough luck. Today, after a quiet day of school and the lot, I walked to scour what restaurants were breaking the norm that I was used to, and served at least 1/4 vegetarian items. After 3 restaurants, I wanted to go home (far away) on an empty stomach, but I saw the exterior of this next restaurant, "Veggie Heaven". I was elated to hear that this was the place I wanted to go to. I held the door for a elderly lady, and along with saying thanks, she said "You'll love the food here, enjoy yourself!" as she thought correctly that I had never been here, or had a proper vegetarian friendly meal before that wasn't a generic house salad. Entering, the aura was familiar to a Chinese restaurant, with textures and friendly staff faces. I asked to be seated (just myself /), and when the waiter came back to my table after a minute rush, I was given a pot of herbal tea, and steamed vegetables on the house (I think cabbage and carrots). I was thinking "What, I'm being charged already!?" with a perplexed facial expression, but my waiter reassured me this was no cost. On a budget (I had enough money to either eat like a king, and potentially not go home, or eat minimal (first timer) and potentially order more at home), I paced myself to order something reasonable, and I ordered miso soup and tofu to start, and Szechuan style tofu as a meal, with white rice. It didn't take long for my food to come out (I was eating alone, and also there was 5 other people on that side of the restaurant I was in), which surprised me, so I was greeted with my soup in the first two minutes after ordering (it's soup after all!), and my main dish 4 minutes after. A bit larger than expected (was expecting maybe a bowl), but I was happy. The food was great, the Szechuan style of tofu, like most Szechuan cuisine, is known for its spiciness (and it sure didn't fail!), and had beans, red pepper, and other things that made it different, complimented with white rice. The miso soup also was nice to eat/drink too, which I finished around the time I was finished eating. The vegetables that were provided at the beginning was not too bad, but I added the table's lite soy sauce for an extra measure. I was almost full and wanted more to eat, but I still had to walk to the bus (far) to go home (further). Ready to pay, I was surprised that my food was at least 33% less than what I was thinking it would be (It was a little more than 10, I thought it would be close to 14.50), and received the typical fortune cookies when paying. I wanted to also get a good sweet tooth , so I ordered the vegan chocolate cake. I wanted to eat it at the restaurant, but I would've had too much, so I opted to take it home. Overall, the food was great, good complimentary tea and veggies, and I was happy to leave to take the bus to go home. I must preface this review by saying that I've been a vegetarian since childhood. I used to get whiny at parties, student events, or formal gatherings if the only vegetarian option was a salad. Over time, I came to terms that tasty vegetarian options was simply not a priority for the mainstream and I relegated myself to making my own food or sticking with pizza or taco bell (sort of false, there are a lot of great vegetarian options in manhattan which I love, or at other places, but I'm trying to be dramatic..jeez). And then, Veggie heaven came along. It is precisely the sort of middle-stream vegetarian restaurant we need, if not deserve. It has an incredible lengthy and diverse menu -- I am confident that even the most discerning of tastebuds --omnivore or herbivore -- will leave satisfied. I enjoyed the hunan dumplings, which were out of this world. They were garlicky and savory and delicious, and super cheap -- I was going to return to the restaurant later that evening and pick up three or four orders for a potluck holiday dinner my colleagues were hosting, but then opted for beer instead since I was running late. You know how it goes. I also tried the General Tso's as per recommendation by my yelp comrades. It lived up to its reputation. I would get it again. But hey -- have I mentioned the hunan dumplings? I did. I'm just trying to remind you they're insanely good and you should definitely get them. I think these folks here have done an incredible job at providing us with a delightfully diverse menu of vegetarian options, and I'm really grateful for their efforts, their affordability, and their excellent food. I have a new fave. For the month of October , I committed to a vegan/pescetarian regimen and it seems that this can be a livable lifestyle for me. After my dining experience at Veggie Heaven, I've decided that this lifestyle can be very livable. The hardest thing to do as a vegan is to find places to eat out or grab food on the go that have a wide array of options. Veggie Heaven certainly lives up to every part of its name. I went here not so long ago after my bf and I went to see a movie at the independent movie theater nearby ( Cedar Lane Cinemas, the tickets are cheap, I def recommend it) We were both starving yet it was almost 10 pm and we were in North Jersey, meaning our food choices were very limited. We walked in and after looking at the menu, and noticing that they close at 10, we were afraid that we were going to have to settle for an Applebee's somewhere else (we have been there more times than I would like to admit). But low and behold, they were nice enough to sit us there, while still letting us know that we had to order soon because the kitchen closes at 10. Funny enough, about 10-15 mins afterwords, they seated another group and told them the same thing that they told us. The place is somewhat simple, yet it does resemble a lot of Chinese establishments that I have been to/seen before. When we sat down, we were brought tea to our table served in small tea kettles. I usually notice these type of small gestures, and appreciate it even if its part of a tradition. After looking at the menu I decided to go with the curry vegetarian chicken while he chose the General Tso's chicken. He also ordered a vegetarian role, and although he meant an egg roll we happened to get some sushi instead. My dish was pretty good, I have never had vegetarian chinese food before, so this was a pleasant surprise. However, I cant say that it was great either, it tasted nothing like chicken and was a little bland although it was somewhat spicy. The sushi roll was great though. We were way too full to order the desert, although I was looking forward to trying the vegan cheesecake, since I became a big fan of it. The service was nice, yet I cant judge since it was the end of the day and there weren't that many people there. However, when we were waiting for the check, they seemed to not care at all about "getting rid of us" and took a while to come back to our table. We live in the neighborhood and eat here weekly. Great kosher vegan food. I like their Asian, Jamaican, and Indian selections. The desserts are to die for. We often take our toddler and they are very kid friendly (but the place is also not overrun with kids and is great for an adult dinner too). You can't go wrong with the price-- a bowl of miso soup is under two dollars!! I tend to avoid the seafood dishes, as they seem to have a weird texture. My favorites are staples like Sesame chicken and beef with broccoli. The Jamaican chicken wrap is great too. The menu is huge!
