Probably one of the quirkiest places in South Pittsburgh - fronted by a thrift and curiosity shop - it's rather easy to miss given the off-the-beaten path location. Anyhow, we had an excellent experience. The brunch had several options - we opted for the seitan "pot roast" and the mushroom pasta. Both were great - ample portions and flavorful. The salad buffet was great, offering a bunch of options, all of which were pretty tasty. I didn't try the dessert section, but it was also pretty large. Overall, possibly the fairest deal on a meal you can get in the greater Pittsburgh region, while still keeping things healthy. Tables are arranged where it's communal, so you end up meeting other folks in a close environment. The walls are adorned with all kinds of artwork, there's no shortage of things to look at. Lastly, I saw some people on a certain social media platform had some critiques of the menu development method - it's all a bad opinion, this is a legacy business in our city and deserves even more of the positive attention they currently get.....support this place!

The layout is wonderfully chaotic; half of it is a restaurant and the other half is a packed antique shop and vintage clothing store. You're literally sitting at a mismatched table surrounded by creepy old dolls, retro lamps, and racks of 1970s jackets while you wait for your food, which is just the coolest vibe. The service matches the aesthetic...it's laid-back, totally unpretentious, and run by folks who just let you do your thing. But let's talk about the food, because it's some of the best vegetarian and vegan comfort food you will ever eat, hands down. I always crave their Seitan Reuben (and I'm not even vegan), which is so perfectly savory and messy, and if you go for their famous Sunday brunch, you have to load up on the sesame peanut noodle salad and grab a slice of whatever vegan cake they have out that day. It's affordable, incredibly quirky, and I'll keep coming back forever.

You order first, then sit at your table (you can keep an open tab to order more food or drinks when you want), and they'll give you your table number. Food comes out pretty quickly and they're attentive in removing empty plate plates just as fast. Quite tasty! As meat eaters, we really appreciated this vegan twist! The pierogi's are an excellent choice for perhaps the less adventurous- yet does not disappoint! The stuffed cabbage was really yummy! And we enjoyed our appetizer- cucumber and radish salad with rye. It made me like radishes again! Simple and fresh ingredients, make for a tasty dinner. Can't wait to come back!

Fantastic vibe in there as well, cool lighting (although something from up above kept falling). It's a highly acclaimed place for a reason. I got to try their beet soup (borscht), tea, potato pancake, and rice pudding dessert. The menu changes decently consistently I believe, and I did visit a little while ago, for notice. The food was very tasty. Huge potato pancake that was cooked perfectly with a nice topping of what I can only describe as vegan sour cream and some sort of very flavorful vegetables. I quite liked it, surprisingly tasty and creamy topping. Now the borscht, which I tend to be picky with, was just okay. The number one detractor for the borscht was the salt level. The food is just far, far too salty (the pancake was pretty salty too). Other than that, quite good. Love the side of rye. The dessert was very good. Surprisingly light. Came with a little caramelized baked fruit on top (apple/pear, something like that). Rice was reasonably creamy and very flavorful. So good! All in all, a nice spot for a nice dinner. Especially great for vegans. However, the food did taste too salty for my liking.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

The restaurant is in the heart of the Northside on Ohio Street nestled among some other really great restaurants like Siempre Algo and Fig & Ash. Parking is a little tricky and the street is a little sketchy. Inside, the restaurant is small with the open kitchen on the first floor and additional seating and a bar on the second floor. When we visited the restaurant first, there was a power outage so we had to leave. The restaurant was accommodating and gave us our drinks for free and allowed us to easily reschedule. There's no doubt that the chef is excellent and classicly French trained. Every dish was exquisitely plated and flavors were intricately chosen that paired well and complimented each other. You could tell that the chef used different culinary techniques on each dish, and it did not go unnoticed. However, I really did not enjoy the food. Everything was super flavorful to the point where it was almost too overpowering. The flavors paired well together but often created an explosion of flavor in my mouth and not in a good way. I feel as though the chef compensated the lack of meat with extra flavor that really did not leave a lasting impression. Vegetables are naturally very bland and require a lot of flavoring to enhance the natural taste, so it makes sense why each dish was so flavorful. Nevertheless, it really just was not for me. I think this restaurant is unique and special and such a bright light to the restaurant scene in Pittsburgh, but I also feel like it's specialized for a certain type of eater, and it is not for everyone! I am super glad that I went outside of my comfort zone to try this restaurant, but I most likely will not be back. On a side note, the service was absolutely excellent. Our waiter was super attentive and willing to explain everything dish to us. It was refreshing and welcomed after we have had some horrific service experiences lately. Kudos to the chef for his excellent craftsmanship! He truly is what holds the restaurant together!

I have had everything on the menu more than once and nothing had ever been disappointing. Therefore, it came as a shock when we learn they are were closing for a while. Sometimes it is a bit too lick like a club in there. Also perhaps they could add the octopus tacos to Tako Torta ! We visited for one last hoorah last weekend. The octopus wasn't on the menu but after checking with our waitress, they still had a few. We got both this one and then queso! It serves wood-fired cuisine that uses locally raised meats, house-made pasta, and seasonal vegetables. Currently, during the winter, examples of menu items are small plates (e.g., roasted beet salad and heirloom carrots), mid courses (e.g., linguine and blue-bay mussels), large plates (e.g., sesame soy-glazed eggplant, pork chop, and picanha), desserts (e.g., pistachio cake and Kahlua fudge brownie), and alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beers). For my husband and me, I made a reservation for dinner through the Resy website. I chose from options of the dining room, a four-season patio with awnings and heaters, and a chef's counter with a view of the kitchen. Please note that although the foods are upscale, the dress code seems to be smart casual. We parked our vehicle in a lot a short walk away. Upon our arrival to the restaurant, a seating hostess promptly greeted and seated us. Our server provided courteous and attentive service, such as taking our order and bringing our foods on time, refilling our waters, and cleaning my crumbs. We started with a Crab Cake with decent amount of crab meat, mushroom duxelles, tasty truffle aioli, and a side of arugula salad. My main course was Branzino with sides of beans-vegetables and parmesan cornbread. My husband's main course was Duck Breast with a blood-orange demi-glace, asparagus, and potatoes. I thought that everything tasted very good. The total price was $96 plus tax, 3% credit-card surcharge, and tip.
