Gene, the technician who volunteers at the Bicycle Tree. A gentle and kind person. Much taller guy that I. Spent time to fix the flat tire for which I had taken my bike to the shop; but also fixed the gears and adjusted them. 3. Alex, an Asian-American gentleman who speaks Spanish. He was the shift manager. May the Bicycle Tree continue to prosper and attract good customers, such as Russell. And may good and decent folks, such as Gene, continue to volunteer there. I recently took the Park Tool class with Cory, and now I have a better understanding of what a bike mechanic legend is. His extensive bicycle knowledge was very apparent as soon as I saw him tinkering with bikes or my bike for that matter. I am extremely grateful that I didn't procrastinate or pass on taking the course. It was a fantastic experience and I was able to swap and upgrade parts on my bike "myself"--with Cory's support. I am honored I was able to do this with assistance from Cory. Since then, I have decided that, as long as circumstances allow, I will always take my bikes to their shop for servicing. Discussed needed services with friendly mechanic: rear cassette, chain, spoke repair, derailleur adjustment. Due to their busy day, agreed to return Tuesday for pricing/terms when me and the mechanic could speak more about terms. Tuesday: Kim (likely the owner) said the mechanic was at lunch (30+ mins). I left my bike; she promised he'd call upon returning. She called 30 minutes later but wouldn't connect us--just offered another callback. He never called. Wednesday: Another mechanic confirmed a $200 estimate but wouldn't commit to exact cost. Promised to call before repairs. No call came. Next day: Received voicemail saying bike was ready. Upon arrival, Kim rushed to retrieve it from the back. When I requested an itemized invoice before paying, she said "It will print out after you pay." After transaction: Bill was nearly $90 over estimate. They replaced brake pads without asking (they were fine), charged for a "SEVERE" alignment without permission or notification, and added $20 for "shop supplies and disposal." When challenged, Kim claimed the mechanic told me the cost and asked if he called (he didn't). She brought the mechanic over--he admitted fixing the spoke but denied charging for it. She almost threw the receipt back, saying "there you go." He also admitted that he had promised to call me before proceeding and didn't. The shop gave me a plastic bag with service trash, but notably the removed "bad" brake pads were missing from it.

Wilfred i believe was the mechanics name promptly diagnosed this and gave us a quote. Bike was ready 2 days later (he had to order parts) and surprisingly the repair was actually less than what he quoted. He also did a once over on the bike making sure everything was tight and in the correct position, all wires and cables secured. Will definitely recommend this shop to others. Just a note, it's a one man show, so if you call and there's no answer just leave a message and he will call you back, he's probably doing a repair or with a walk in customer. *****
