This was my first brunch spot in LA and a much needed one after the good word of mouth. This definitely is a great place to get a good bite to eat to get your lazy Sunday going. They offer a variety of drinks and food menu items for you to choose from. For a early afternoon it was a pleasant surprise to see we didn't have to wait at all and were seated immediately. Parking can be hard to find so usually you'd be looking for one along the streets in the area. I had the breakfast sandwich with chips and I recommend to not have the eggs sunny side up. It'll get too messy, mig mistake on my part. Other than that the food was very good, decent pricing, and a nice vibe all around! read more

After walking the pier and before heading to the airport, a friend and I wanted to get a drink and quick bite. We stumbled upon this gem along a cute street that I affectionately said reminded me of Brooklyn, (perhaps LA folk won't like the comparison haha). I ordered a cider (Anna's Cider to be exact, a new favorite of mine) and had the asparagus salad which was with prosciutto and burrata cheese-both favorites. The meal was really fabulous. Place wasn't bad just very mediocre and didnt offer much to separate itself as a wine bar. Staff took awhile to greet and it just kind of felt unwelcomed. Ambiance and service gets five stars. This tiny place, with its tiny kitchen and hidden tiny bathroom exudes unpretentious high quality. With such a small place, careful attention has been paid to maximizing space. It gives the place a cozy feeling like 'we are all connected' even with other diners. Good wine selection, very small portion sizes on the cheese board and prices are high but typical for area. This is a cool spot, best for a duo rather than a larger group. You'll find it off Rose Ave. next to Cerveteca. VBW offers a cozier, more intimate vibe. Seats are limited and not designed for the particularly long-limbed. But if you're here with a date, claim one of the corner bench spots and cozy up for some good wine and good times. They also have some heat lamps and covers for when the weather is a little cool. I last came here on a rainy evening, and it was still as delightful as ever. The true selling point: the service is consistently great, which keeps me coming back. Overall: Service - fabulous! Environment - cozy, tight space with most spots being bench/mini-stools in their "patio" area in the front Food - solid, but not outstanding...a little something for everyone Drink - mostly wine with some beer offerings. I am not a wino. In fact, I consider myself to be much like the sidekick in Sideways whenever I find myself at various wine bars surrounded by wine aficionados. I'm usually at the wine bar because of a friend who declares, "hey, we're going to ______ wine bar, and you're coming"; I only ever order sauvignon blanc, usually gulping it down before it even has time to 'breathe' - or whatever it does; and hey, lets face it, wine usually accompanies cheese. And I LOVE cheese. However being the social maven aiming to please that I am, I figured a post-holiday reunion with my wino friends was in order, and I'd heard so much about VBW since it opened, it sounded like the perfect option. It's a good thing I'm selfish and love praise, cause I totally scored with this place! The friends were impressed with a plentiful selection of wines available by glass or bottle and fed with a large plate of various cheeses and charcuterie deliciously placed alongside additions like whole grain mustard and, brilliantly bordering the speck bacon, MAPLE SYRUP. Lastly, if you're not in a wine mood, there's an entire refrigerator full of beer - namely GOOD beer like microbrews and imports - to get your hops on with. The service was friendly and frequent, and I loved watching the meat literally being sliced fresh upon each order being placed. The staff has an aire of 'we're proud of our business' - as they should be. Only improvements suggested: One friend was impartial to the red wine tumblers as they 'warm up the wine' with your hands too quickly. And I do wish the patio area was a bit larger, as if even 15 people arrive and partake before you, you're a bit SOL on a seat or table area until they're done. As this is a place I can see myself spending many a lazy Sunday or happy hour, I'd love to avoid the floor unless it's brought about via inebriation. Ever since I moved to the area everyone kept telling I just had to check this place out. I finally found the opportunity last night and I was completely charmed. Located on a quiet part of Rose Ave, it's a teeny little space with just a few benches and small tables to share, and no indoor seating. You can see the kitchen through the window, and it's also absolutely miniscule...it reminded us a lot of New York in its compactness. The service was stellar and I very much enjoyed my wine which was a couple bucks off for happy hour, which goes till 7. My only gripe was that I didn't love the food... we had the Toscano pizette which was actually fairly tasty but also the tonno salad, which I found to be pretty flavorless. Next time I'll definitely be having their bacon wrapped dates or selection of cheeses, which I think will better complement my wine! So the experience was very very close to a five star for me, reduced mostly because I think I should have chosen differently on the food menu. But I'm looking forward to coming back seeing what else they have to offer in this cute little spot! read more

Came here with some friends for dinner and drinks and loved it! This isn't a good place for groups as the space is very tiny. This would be a great date spot or just meeting up with one or two friends. There are other restaurants near by as well so this is a great area to go out for drinks. They have a wine flight for only $15 where you can pick the three wines you want to taste. Each taste is more like it's own glass so you definitely get your money's worth and the wine is awesome! I made my own mini charcuterie board with burrata and salami. It comes with half a baguette of bread, jam and mustard it's the perfect size for one persons meal or to share with a friend. It was delicious! Our waiter was so attentive as well. He helped us choose the best wines per our preferences and made sure we enjoyed everything throughout our meal. This is easily my favorite place in Venice - maybe in all of L.A. It is a very local, very small space that invites you to say hello to your neighbors. Really just a great vibe. The menu is mostly small plates and even the entree sandwiches are cut for sharing. Charcuterie, cheeses, and pizzas that all go great with wine. Almost everything is delicious and the 'lambwich' is worth the trip alone. In fact, I often walk over for just that sandwich... The wine list is actually not huge, but the selections are always interesting and rotate occasionally. Everything (I think) is available by glass or bottle. They also have a respectable beer selection that also compliments the food selection. If you want to feel like a local when you walk in, just do not try and steal open seats. Politely wait by one of the standing tables near the entrance or inside and your party will be seated when it is your turn. No official wait list but they always get it right! My single gripe and the reason my favorite place only gets 4 stars is the tight pours. From the owner's perspective, I can see how draconian measures at a wine bar can make a huge difference to the bottom line. But I think the pours are pretty small to begin with and even 4 or 5 glasses in, the staff is still filling to the line exactly. My opinion is that places that serve high-markup booze should give their employees the flexibility to take care of good customers (like the 'buy back' of yore...) once in a while. read more

We were in Santa Monica and looked to Yelp to find a place to get a glass of wine... Yelp is so helpful, told us which ones were open and which were closed and when they would be open, also gave us accurate distances. We decided on Venice Beach Wines a couple miles away. So glad we did! It was a great place and they have a very impressive selection of wines! My wife had a glass of Sonoma Cabernet which was great, I switched gears and had a beer, Delerium Tremens! Mmmm DT! The girl who served us was awesome and nice, helpful in finding a local place to do some last minute Christmas shopping too. We bought a very unique bottle of French wine that is sitting in our cupboard for that special occasion. We didn't eat the food but it looke very good as well. read more

She mentioned that they had a sandwich named after her, so we ordered the sandwich which is like a reuben and it was great. Never been here before. Its very very European, and cozy--I was there on a quiet evening, not when it is totally busy. The wine was fine, the food--just ok. I had the sardine dish, it was very fishy; the nectarine salad was sort of a miss---a big nectarine that was not really ripe in the middle of an arugala salad. Sort of lazily put together. After my initial review of VBW where I gave my visit 3 stars, the waiter that waited on me during that visit reached out to me on Yelp. He apologized for the experience I had and invited me back for a redemption visit. The redemption visit was a good one. More similar in service to what I'm use to getting at VBW. It's not perfect service but it's really good service. Micah and I got the drunken goat cheese with red wine cherries to start, the tonno salad with salted white fish (sub since they didn't have the cured tuna avail) and the bison burger. We ordered the bison burger with no bacon but it came out with bacon anyway. Funny, but I can definitely live with that small mistake. Our waiter was really nice and extremely accommodating. He even brought out dessert for us. It was the chocolate brownies with fresh strawberries. Really, that dessert was to DIE for. All in all, it was really great of VBWs to reach out and make it known that they do care about their service and the loyal customers. The food and wine is always good, the atmosphere is perfect and they definitely get an A for effort for this last visit! I was about to hop a plane back to San Francisco. This place was my last stop. My pal suggested we go here, and I'm glad she did. I ordered a selection of cheeses to go well with a sparkling wine. I also ordered a roasted squash with greens and chevre. This all hit the spot. First off, the roasted squash was cooked so that it had a nice char on the outside and was soft on the inside. The chevre added some balance to its sweetness. The cheeses that they put down for me were a nice progression of mellow to really savory and nutty. They were setting up for music: a cellist and an accordion player were going to do a few songs. Alas, the airport was calling and with just about an hour before my flight I barely made it, and wasn't at all hungry on the flight up. I had a nice buzz going to. This is a small cozy place to sit, drink and munch on cheese all day. read more

Came here on a GILT voucher on our first day in LA and what a steal! Very cute and romantic for a spot for some drinks and bites. Tables are small but create a wonderful intimate setting. Such amazing hospitality, service was absolutely on point. Our waiters explained the menu patiently, were constantly refilling our glasses (water), and bringing out our courses in perfect rhythm. Great service for a bustling wine bar even with tight staff. The food is delicious, our favorite was the goat cheese "Melty Hot Pot." (Absolute MUST!) We almost burned our tongues with excitement. As for the Steak and Lamb chops entrees, the meat was perfectly cooked and very juicy. Both entrees came with a perfectly paired vegetable or salad. You won't feel that incredibly full feeling after the course but nice and refreshed (we're used to larger portions?). The chocolate lava cake was rich in chocolate and topped with fresh berries. We popped in around 5 for a drink. We didn't get to try any food as we had dinner in an hour but our server was a friendly Italian man who was knowledgeable about their selection of wine. He had great suggestions and explained the profiles of various wines. This place was the quintessential Venice wine bar, cute and welcoming but not fussy. Their wines were a little more expensive than I'd like to pay but they had a nice selection and were very good. This place is SMALL--like, a few benches out on the front patio and a few stools inside. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and had the front patio to ourselves, which felt like a special treat with the size of this place. Our server brought out lunch, wine, and cheese + charcuterie menus for us to peruse and they've really got something for everyone here! Salads, pizza, sandwiches, and yummy bites for pairing with wine--crostinis, bacon-wrapped dates, olives, nuts, and of course, lots of cheeses and meats. We ordered a couple of glasses of their crisp rosé, the green chickpea hummus, a margherita pizza, and a big ol' fancy cheeseboard. The board comes with bread, pickled veg, two mustards, and some fruit alongside whichever a la cart options you choose. Portions are decent and this was more than enough food for three ladies. Of all the things, I super loved the hummus (we subbed veggies for pita and it was the prettiest plate) and the petit brebis on the cheese board. Order a bottle and sit and stay a while or walk off all that cheese with a quick jaunt to the beach. We absolutely loved the food and desserts! It's also less then a mile away from our house so we can walk to it for a bit of exercise, and not have to worry about finding parking which is extremely annoying in Venice as we all know however we've been disappointed lately by the service... Sarah is great but Robin is always very brash and gives the vibe that she wishes she wasn't a server? We've also seen her take off her mask multiple times and claims she can't speak with it on... yet Sarah has no issue with that and neither do any servers or bartenders at other restaurants we frequent. It baffling why someone who obviously would rather be somewhere else wouldn't just find a job better suited to his or her personality. When we dropped a fork and asked for a new one she literally rolled her eyes and said it will have to wait till she takes the order from another table... yet we had our food in front of us and came before that table... very uncomfortable if we see she's working, we walk right past and go to a different restaurant, we thought maybe the first few times we experienced this she was having a bad day or she was tired, but after multiple visits it's obvious it's just her personality. The other concern is we are expecting a baby, while we aren't far along enough to show yet- we expect all serving staff to wear a mask for the safety of its patrons. You never know what underlining condition someone has and to put life's at risk for your own selfish ways it's not just bad service, it's putting life's in danger. read more
