Absolute trash. We tried going to Secret Grilled Cheese, which is owned by the same people (new ownership). Located right below and is a "secret." Guys have to wear a shirt with a collar, which we knew. A group of us tried go on a non-busy weekend. 3 girls and 2 guys. Both guys wore a shirt with a collar and jeans. As we walked up, a guy walked out of the establishment in jeans and a T-shirt and proceeded to vomit 4 times by our feet. We then knocked to get in and gave the appropriate password, but we were told we could not get in because the men were not in slacks. We told them we just saw a guy come out in jeans and a shirt, and he also got profusely sick. It's not like there was any ounce of class or sophistication...They said it was a mistake letting that guy in and that they still would not let us in. They were extremely and shockingly rude about it and slammed the door in our face. Then another guy walked out also in jeans and a tee!! We went and spent our money elsewhere on the Square and enjoyed ourselves. Later, we saw them let a group of clearly intoxicated people go inside, and the guys in that group were wearing jeans. We are so confused. We will never try to go here again. Plus the alley reeks of vomit.....thanks to their "classy" customers. This is a polite version of our disappointment. We have now spoken to other people in The Square about this place, and apparently it is a common thread. We will continue to make sure others know not to come here. read more

I called them on phone and they didn't answer. I should have known something was wrong then. So, I called them on phone again later and they finally answered the phone. They said they were open today and no need for reservations. As soon as I walked in, they were a few others waiting for a hostess that never came. One customer finally went and asked a waitress to come seat us. She told me to go upstairs to sit at bar. But, once at bar. They said they serve pizza and beer only. I didn't want that. So, I went all the way back down stairs so I could order some real food off the lunch menu. Once again, I found myself waiting to be seated at a restaurant that had no hostess. A waiter finally told me I could sit at a table along the wall. So, I finally got a seat after 15 minutes of waiting and given the "run around". My waiter did bring me my sweet tea. But, it took a long time for him to take my order. During this time, he did bring me some complimentary bread and melted butter. It was pretty good. At one point, I over heard him tell some customers that they have no dishwasher, no hostess and some other people that didn't show up. They finally brought me my spaghetti with 2 meatballs with marinara. They didn't put enough marinara on my spaghetti. So, it was a little dry. But, I ate it anyway. Even though the portion of spaghetti was a little small. Final thoughts: I wished I had eaten at Olive Garden in Tupelo earlier today. But, I wanted to come to the Oxford Square as it had been years since I have been down here. I think it was the mid 90's when I was down here the last time. Anyway, I don't think I'm coming back to this restaurant again. I was down here too long. read more

so sad that this is my rating for Venice Kitchen... i have read reviews from this restaurant before and i had to check it out for myself and walk in open-minded! the hostesses were truly the sweetest people and had great customer service skills! unfortunately, it was parents' week so everywhere in the square was packed, and they had a seating hold on because of the dishwasher. after an hour we were sat , we had no complaints about the wait because everywhere else was packed... we ordered and the food took at least an hour to get out, and our waitress was just okay, she did not check on us at all. the food came and i found it to be un-flavorful and overall just not that good... i don't think there is a need for me to go back again so i most defiently wont . so sad read more

I am giving Venice Kitchen a generous 2 stars. The bread and oil that we got when we sat down was the best thing that happened all night. We ordered the sausage cheese appetizer for almost $20 and almost laughed when it showed up. Look up my picture of the huge hunk of cheese. There were a few tiny tiny rings of sausage, some banana peppers, a few walnuts and some blah sauce. My daughter's pizza had raw veggies on top. I ordered the chicken parm. The chicken was burned. Not just crispy. But burned. I told the waitress and ordered something else. It was Monday, so the sign said all appetizers except the sausage plate were 1/2 price. When I got the check, the cheese fries were full price. I asked the waitress, Lissa. She asked someone named Abby who said "oh yes, the cheese fries are not 1/2 price). See the picture of the table sign. There are too many outstanding Italian restaurants in Oxford for them to be this bad. They also charged me for my burned chicken parm. We were on a road trip and drove through the cute little town of Oxford, MS for lunch. We stopped at Old Venice Pizza and it did not disappoint! The individual pizzas are big, but you can definitely eat it on your own if you're hungry. I ordered the S5 with pepperoni, mozzarella, bacon, Parmesan and honey. It was delicious!! The honey was definitely a surprise ingredient and it was the best part. We sat upstairs near the bar and the service was great and the food came out really fast which was super nice! There was a very small patio upstairs overlooking the square, but it was full. They have a full bar, but only a couple things on tap and nothing too fancy for mixed drinks. Where to start... we ordered a sausage cheese plate. It was full of cheap side things with very little sausage or cheese and a huge pile of lettuce to cover the empty space. Visited Venice Kitchen today with the family... it was horrible! We ordered 3 pasta dinners - no flavour , it was no chicken available so they had to go with shrimp! It tasted like it came straight out the ocean ! It was disgusting. One of our pasta dinners had no pasta so we were charged for 4 shrimp and for pieces of broccoli FULL PRICED ! We also ordered meatballs and loaded fries ... No flavour, fries were not fully cooked. All meals were cold after taking an hour to even get , we had to ask for bread. The tea was so water down. Now we have been here several times for lunch before and never experienced this so we are fully aware of what everything should taste like. Let us stop for a moment and praise the bread: at the outset of the meal, a savory loaf of seasoned bread is brought, hot, to the table. This alone makes Old Venice worth a stop. An extra piece costs a couple of bucks, which may save some of us from ingesting several thousand calories' worth of this manna (and pricing a second piece is a smart move by the kitchen to avoid instant depletion) . Well from the outside and name you'd a assume it's a little more upscale at least mid-way scaled. The Ambiance is trying hard to be a dark and romantic place but feels like a chain. The derives seems fine. They were responsive but it also wasn't as crowded as the other establishments on the square at that time. I just walked into this restaurant. There were only four tables that had people sitting at them. The place was dead, when every other restaurant in the city was very busy. The ignorant manager refused to seat our party of eight even though we offered to split into two parties of four. I can not for the life of me understand why they did not want our busines. Our server Meg was very nice and kept our drinks filled. My favorite part of any meal here is hands down the bread and garlic oil they give you at the beginning, it's always so flavorful and warm. We ordered the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, and they were very crunchy and the middle was super soft. (kinda weird, I've never had a cheese stick like it) They didn't have much flavor either, but were very good in the garlic oil from the bread. I got the Caesar salad and my partner got the lasagna. The salad was decent, it had a strange almost sweet taste though. The lasagna had good flavor but terrible texture - noodles were overcooked for sure. We walked in during a game weekend and there was no wait. Everything was downhill from there. I ordered a Paloma and it was undrinkable. It was so sweet and tasted like pure mix of some sort. We waited for a long time for food and one of our meals came out later than the rest. At another table, a guy had to eat his wife and daughter's leftovers bc it took so long to get his meal. My friend for a pizza and it was good, but my shrimp and andouille fettuccine wasn't very good at all. Service was terrible. Overall, just a poor experience. Went tonight with four other people and were told that they couldn't push tables together for us. We'd have to wait 45 minutes for a table that seats 5-6 that was currently occupied. Let me be clear: there were several open tables that could have easily been pushed together to accommodate us. So in the hopes of getting 8 potential guests, they turned away five willing guests. Who's to say we wouldn't have spent more money than those eight guests? Stupid policy from an ownership who obviously cares nothing about guests and only about squeezing money out of people. Not only did they remove some or not only mine but my fiends favorites- they added dishes that I honestly could have done without. I never write bad reviews. Maybe this was just a bad night. I do believe the service did they best they could, but the food was awful. I ordered the chicken fettuccini, and was actually happy that they came back to tell me they were out of chicken and could substitute shrimp instead. Then they delivered three out of our four meals explaining that my son's lasagna "had to thaw a little longer". I held off on eating until his food was delivered. By then, the congealed greasy fettuccini was overpowered by the spoiled shrimp they served me. I'm literally writing this review while sick from the meal. Last night we ordered a cheese pizza and lasagna to go. The pizza crust was burnt and paper-thin with burnt cheese bubbles all over. I should have looked at it before I got home. The lasagna had burnt cheese as well. I know the chef must have looked at it before putting the pizza in the box. It looked leftover from lunch. Old Venice is amazing! Best best best spinach and artichoke dip I've ever had, I can not say that enough! The crab and crawfish chowder also had an amazing flavor, it was different than most but sooo yummy! All the pizzas I've seen look amazing, but I haven't had the chance to try one yet! I have had the trausclaire pasta dish and the creole delight pasta dish. They were both very good, but I like the trausclaire way way more! I recommend the trausclaire if you want a little bit of southern edge to an Italian dish. It had crawfish and shrimp in it, and a pretty good amount! It's also easier to eat with the penne pasta and the flavor of the sauce was great! I hope my recommendations help!
