Venture-N is a down home, down & dirty, dive, Man's bar that makes no excuse for its existence. Has a pool table and nice back patio that may get pretty hot under the intense summer sun, but definitely comfortable in the balmy summer nights.   I love dive bars, and this place definitely qualifies in aces.  Mostly for local men and for those tourists who want to see the Tucson scene on the down low.  The other Venture N was on Main Street in downtown Houston, Texas back in the late 90's. It was way more playful and outgoing with men wearing leather, uniforms, or Western boots, painted on Wrangler jeans with big silver buckles, Western boots.   Tucson guys tend to be more subdued. More introspective. Not flashy. However, the bartender was gracious. When I tried to order sparkling mineral water which is sooo California, he said the soda water came from the tap and didn't want to charge me. Of course, I left a tip. I've never been to a place like this but the bracelets are cheap and there are plenty of things to do. Me and my coworkers went during some free time and had a blast! I would say there should be more on site entertainment and interaction. But we probably went on a slow day. read more

Food Service = none, Service and Ambience - not good. As a bar for the gay community this establishment does mot measure up. The staff and owner are particularly rude and unpleasant. It appears that no investment has been made in making the main building and the patio pleasant for customers. Restrooms - awful. What a shame. Quaint little gay bar in a residential neighborhood. I was there on a weeknight, and the place was almost empty. But the bartenders were super nice. Only caveat: they only take cash. So you have to swipe your card and they do this weird thing where you pay them for drinks. read more

The place is okay overall, and there are some really cool people who work there. However, they have a bartender named Dan who is extremely rude. I have talked to other people who have had negative interactions with him too. I left two messages with the owners to specifically talk about my interaction with Dan but they never bothered calling me back. I guess they don't care how their customers are treated and the place isn't that special anyway. I recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

Never felt more discrimination for being a woman/lesbian than I did when I came here. Bartender was decent, but ignored the extremely rude comments from the male patron at the bar when we ordered. Even owner seemed annoyed. we had one drink and left to go to Brodie's and IBTS instead, where we could go and celebrate WITH family, LIKE family. I have never found Venture a particularly friendly bar, from a staff perspective. But tonight was a new low!! There were 5, 6 people at the bar, and a few more by the pool table. The bartender was chatting with a patron when I walked up to the bar. I stood for a couple of minutes, never being acknowledged. The bar back joined him and they started a conversation, after seemingly looking in my direction but still not seeing me, I guess. They chatted for another minute or 2 and then walked together outside, with me still standing without a drink or even being recognized. I walked outside to see if there was a bar open outside, which there wasn't! So after wasting 5 minutes, I left without having the opportunity to even order a drink. My first time and my friends second time there and the minute we entered the bar tender was so rude and condescending to us. He wouldn't give us the brands of vodka and continued to tell us he has been doing this for 25 years and we're not gonna win! And told us it was gonna cost extra to go on the patio and continued being condescending to the point I had to say something like why are you being so rude to us if you have been doing this for 25 years why can't you answer my friends question about what vodkas you have? So he takes our drinks dumps them and gives me back $18 of the $22 he charged me and kicked us out. The best gay bar in Tucson, IMHO! It's a cozy place that welcomes everyone... just as you are. Typically the bar attracts an older crowd and the vibe will remind you of that 90s old school gay scene. Bears and leather welcome. Great well drinks with limited beer taps and everything is affordable. Leave your pretense at home. Cash is preferred, but they'll run your card like an ATM. So I walk into a leather bar in Tucson with my boss and humpy twink coworker and I knew I wasn't in San Francisco anymore. First of all, I was the only one wearing leather and they were my white leather flip flops. Second, there were no hunky, caged go go boys being beaten to trancey techno. Third, the only buttcrack I saw was from the sweet bartender who had just moved there from SAN FRANCISCO. I wore more leather when I modeled for Stormy then what was being sported by the 'daddies' in this well lit leather bar! And I'm not a big girl, so a vest or cap would have sufficed. For shame Tucson, for shame! On the plus side, there is a nice patio in the backyard with a firepit, the boys are very sweet, and they cleared the bathroom (disappointing) and put the seat down (brownie points) when I had to pee. Went to Venture-N on a lark while in Tucson for a week and ended up going three times total because it was so perfect. Pool, darts, huge back patio, precious Christmas decor with stockings for each employee? This place was like gay Cheers. (This review is based on a visit four years ago.) Decent if not older crowd for a Saturday night. I seem to recall a lot of tables in back in the firepit area. People seemed kind of friendly - if not in their own cliques. Crowds got restless around 12:30 - last call. (This was when Tucson closed the bars at 1.) Nice place to sit back and relax. (And watch your friend's boyfriend run into all of his ex's for some odd reason.) I did not visit this place (lack of time) during the '07 Tucson tour. Perhaps next time. From my memories, a solid 3. I concur with Matt H. We just moved here 10 months ago. At the same time, in all fairness to Venture-N, there isn't a gay bar in Tucson that I'd recommend. Gay life as a married gay couple trying to hang with other gays, is absolutely nihl in Tucson. The city's gay scene sucks. We couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry when we attended 2012 Tucson Gay Pride. Instead, we just got drunk out of despair. Haven't tried Phoenix yet. Tucson is about 20 years behind rest of nation. Just look at the friggin roads here. And I grew up in a small, backwards town with 4 stop lights. But shame on Tucson leaders - ministers, politicians, university and churches -- for their overall backwardness and apathy, for their not diligently promoting dignity for all. Can't believe people choose to live in Tucson. As soon as can find a job outa here gonna move! read more

A very horrible place if you want to be respected and have good service. It has to be one of the most terrible establishments in Tucson. I hear people get 86'd for not wearing the right clothes and or not being part of the "in" crowd.....whatever that is. I wouldn't recommend this bar at all. This place is just okay. I love bear/cub/leather bars and this is the only one we have in Tucson. The crowd tends to be a little bit older, and I have found on certain nights there are more bears/cubs than others... it really depends on the night you go.... The inside is really small, so my boyfriend and I normally go out back to the patio which is nice. read more

The ventue-n can be a fun bar to meet/hook-up with with friends. Maybe at times there might be a bitter fat individual that will trash this fine establishment, but that happens when tubo can't respect his father; who tried to teach him on how to "be a man"! It's nice to have a gay bar without a lot of college boys. I like men! it keeps changing and keeping up with the times. Now, can somebody tell me where the big, fuzzy bears are hiding. The bartender at the main bar on February 11, 2017 was wholly oblivious to his own rudeness. Taking a $20 and two dimes and a nickel ($20.25) for a drink that costs $2.25, he said, "we don't usually take dimes and nickels." I reminded him that dimes and nickels are legal tender in the U.S., and he insulted me and yet still felt the need to urge me to tip him. Low class! read more

Venture-N creeps me out, My experience with the current bar staff is frankly bad. I have been going to that particular bar since it was called Some Place Else, a straight bar, in 1978 but I prefer Broadies now or even IBT's even though I am a bit old for IBT's. But at least they've treat me decently. From what I hear Venture-n has gone through a few owner changes and whoever is involved in this latest set up really has taken Venture-n down. Here is what happened to a friend of mine. He met a buddy outside in front. They talked a bit then walked in the bar and proceeded to the back patio area. They were no more that 20 seconds in the place when a bar back tapped him on the shoulder and said the bar tender said buy a drink or leave. They chose to leave rather than put up with that insulting crap. The place is creepy, has turned weird so avoid it. Suggest you give your business to some other venue. read more
