they messed up my sister's hair. she asked for them to retouch the roots and tone it but now her scalp is bleeding and the color was completely off. the bleach burned her head more than usual to the point where it was unbearable and she was crying, and now her hair is three different shades of yellow when she asked for a silver brown color. she also asked to trim the back and cut bangs in the front but they ended up cutting so much of her hair off when the lady claimed to only cut off an inch, and she didn't end up getting bangs either. i wish i could give 0 stars because this is the second time my sister has went there and the first time was fine but this time completely ruined and damaged her hair to the point where she's in excruciating pain even after the whole process. my sister has bleached her hair multiple times before and it has never turned out like this. she voiced her concerns about how painful the bleach was the entire time she was there in comparison to previous times, but no one did anything about it and simply ignored her. and i have never been the type to leave bad reviews as i try to be very understanding of the stylist and knowing that not everything can look exactly as references pictures but this is simply inexcusable. we ended up paying $300 for this. unfortunately there is nothing we can do about her hair or our money or her wounds except deal with it and write this review to warn everyone else from coming here as well. the person who did her hair was named phuong. read more

The customer was raving about Marian, and said that Marian had a former store near the SH 249 area, and that she drives all the way to Southwest Houston for her haircuts now. I've been a customer of theirs since 2008. They do consistent work, they listen, and will take good care of your hair. Review on processes/logistics of their business and cut by Vanan. 1. Venus has no wait system - no clarity of wait time, location, etc. Everything is disorganized. 2. Appointments and walk ins are disorganized 3. Hairdresser Vanan is not accepting of feedback I came in on New Year's Eve with no appointment. There were 3 people currently in. Looked almost done. I was given no time frame and was told I'd be next by two hairdressers. My sister was with me and she was attended to right away by a hairdresser, let's call her Vanan. Her cut took an hour without wash. While I was waiting, 6 people came in. Here is my qualm with the processes. I had already been waiting and when one of the hairdressers (lets call her hair dresser #1) was done, she just left her chair. Then someone came in, found that hairdresser (#1), and was attended to right away. Another hairdresser (let's call her hairdresser #2) was done and I assumed after cashing out, I'd be next. Again I was wrong. Another girl came in, presumably for highlights, found the hairdresser (#2) and sat down in her (the empty hairdresser's #2) chair. Then another customer came in and went straight to the right side to get her hair washed by H#2. I was still sitting. ...waiting. After the succession of people that came in, noone bothered to inform me how long I had to wait now or who I was waiting for. Another girl came in and sat next to me. Another lady came in and stood by the counter like she was trying to call dibs. Another lady came in and found the first hairdresser (H#1) and got her hair washed right away as well. By this point, I was ready to leave. Granted I knew it was a holiday so it was getting busy and I didn't have an appointment, I wasnt going to make a big deal. Better luck tomorrow right? My sister was about done and I wasnt going to wait any longer. When she was done, Vanan went to wash another lady's hair immediately. My sister didn't even know she was done and then she stood at the cash register waiting for a good ten minutes and noone helped her. That's when one of the hairdressers, one of the ones who told me I'd be next, (let's call her H#3) told me to come get my hair washed and apologized for the wait. I tried to explain to her that I didn't want my hair done if I wasnt going to get it cut right after because I had to leave soon. She then told Vanan to take care of me. At this point, I was irritated. I'm just being honest. To be short and to the point, Vanan rushed on my hair. She was getting water in my eyes during the wash that I had to wipe away. She didnt ask me what cut I wanted. She was pulling my hair hard when it was still wet. She hit me several times with the blow dryer. I was so scared she would burn me with the straightener. She did little to no trims at the end to make sure everything was even. The whole wash and cut took 40 minutes. When she showed me my hair, I pointed out my right side and asked if she could do anything because it looked choppy and I told her I didn't want choppy layers, I wanted them to blend. Her answer: "No you just go like this, see. It looks good." And proceeded to brush my hair back so it looked blended. I asked her several times and she just said the same thing, that it looked good. Well... Then she got up and went straight to washing someone else's hair. .. didn't even check us out. We had to wait for another 5 minutes. Umm....ok. All the women are super friendly at Venus but there has got to be something wrong If I leave irritated and pissed off everytime I go. I should stop telling myself 'it'll be different this time' and just find a new salon...or maybe just get an appointment with one of the two hairdressers that everyone here keeps raving about. read more

Marian did my hair. First my hair cut is very hard to do. It is an A line bob, but I'm Italian with a huge amount of hair. If the hair dresser cuts it with scissors it comes out a puffy mess. Marian did my whole cut with a straight razor. Wow now that's a hard cut. She did amazing. My hair has never looked so good. She did an amazing job, all with a straight razor. The best part is I can make it look as good as she did the next time I washed my hair. I will never go any ware else, but to Marian she is amazing. read more

So far so good, had Marian as my sister's stylist and mine. I was looking for a trim with long layers on my sides only same length on back and long bangs and she delivered! My sister on the other hand wanted a trim with lots of layers all over. She cuts with razor which I love and also used the sissors. I felt attended to and while we were in her seat she only paid attention to us, she didn't leave to work on anyone else. read more

After seeing all the amazing reviews about Louis, I decided to give this salon a try. If I could give 0 stars I would. I had an appt for 11am, but only saw him 45 mins after. I told him I wanted to perm my hair to give it more volume. Rather than being honest, he went ahead with the treatment, I sat on the side for 1 hr. After the perm, they washed my hair, only to see it still straight. Louis knew that it would not stick because how thin my hair is. While cutting my hair he made the process painful. The whole ordeal was 4 hours, with no difference when I first came in. If you are looking for a honest good working salon, please look elsewhere. Don't believe all the pictures and reviews you see on Facebook and Yelp. You have been warned. read more

Just went and got my hair cut at this place because of all the good reviews. I am very disappointed, the older lady was the one who did the cut and her handling was very poor. She was very rough when washing my hair. When cutting with her clipper she gave me numerous amounts of cut behind my neck. Not only that the result was not what I wanted, the front is uneven with the side, it is much longer and not what I asked for. The back was totally messed up. When she was using the blow dryer to dry my hair she pointed it so close and directly to the scalps and it burnt me so much. I've had many bad experiences at asian salons so asian hair salons are not my first choice but it was my day off and it was already 6pm after I had finished all my errands. There was barely any customers inside once. Can you really mess up on trimming bangs? Boy was i wrong.. This was probably the sloppiest hair cut trim ever- and it was just my bangs! I went here after reading all the great reviews! I wish I had never stepped foot into this salon. First the lady that I paid was so rude about having to hand me my change. The girl that cut my hair didn't understand a word I was saying! I asked her not to give me any more layers but a few short pieces around my face would be fine. She misunderstood and gave me layers all the way down my hair. Then she argued with my about cutting my bangs, as in she really wouldn't do it. I couldn't understand exactly why she didn't want to, but I had specifically asked her to. Couple days later I notice that my layers on each side of my head are VERY uneven. It has been a long time since I got my haircut in Chinatown. I had this place bookmarked for a while and decided to give it a try today. I called for same day appointment to have my haircut by Julie. Honestly I don't think appointment matters at places like this. The stylists usually take turn on walk in customers so you may have to wait even if you have an appointment. Anyway, the place is super nice/clean. Julie was friendly and attentive to details. Her scalp massage was awesome tho, very relaxing. Julie sent a good amount of time on my hair. She is very careful on each cut. You can tell she has been cutting hair for a long time based on how she handles her scissors. The stylists here aren't particularly chatty. She made small talks every now and then, but didn't get into my personal life as other stylists I have used in the past. Although I do love my haircut and Julie, I was disappointed that she used a razor to layer my hair. I was told that a good stylist can do anything with a scissor and doesn't have to rely on a razor. Overall, a good experience but I'm not sure if I would come back (only BC I don't want split ends from her using the razor). read more

My boy friend found me this hair salon. Marian really did a great job! She did haircut and hair color for me and i really really love her work. She is amazing (and the price is amazing cheep to me, too.) I used to go to a famous hair salon in China town. They charged me $200 every time for doing haircut and hair color. I liked their job, too. But the problem is i need to make a reservation one week before. But with Marian, i dont need to wait one week. I just need to make a phone call in the morning and she will try too put me on the same day. One thing I don't like is the hair dye that their store use. It's too strong to me because I have sensitive skin so I need to use a certain brand to do hair color. But i really like Marian's skill for doing haircut and hair style. Marian was excellent! I called and made an appt only waited an extra ten minutes since she was finishing up with someone. I cut off about 8 inches and was worried since she was using a razor. She was amazing! She cut it just how I asked, length wise, and styled it how she felt would look good and she was right! I highly recommend her. For a shampoo, cut and style was only $25! So cheap!!! Went here searching for Marian due to the stellar reviews and luckily she was available on the day that I got off from work a little early. All I needed was a trim, but she was still very attentive. Took her time and didn't rush me. Wash, cut, dry all for $20! The place is clean and well kept. Overall, totally recommend the place. You'll leave happy, but don't expect high fashion hair. Jenny has been recommended to me by multiple members of my family and all of them have different styles. Since my son needed his first hair cut, we took him to her salon and she was incredible. She was patient while he cried, cut his hair whenever he was still and eventually figured out a way to make him happy (For the record: sitting on my lap in the middle of the store - yes, on the floor! Gotta love todders.) so she could finish up. It. looks. fantastic! If she can do a good job on a squirmy toddler, I'm sure she can do a good job on anyone's hair (plus, I've seen the styles she cuts for my family). Definitely a place to at least check out. Marian is meticulous and focused, but also in high demand and often delayed. She gave me a cut worthy of a high end hair salon, which Venus is not. I showed her a picture of a long, angled bob with tapered ends and she reproduced it exactly. Several warnings, however: -Bring photos of the haircut/color you want to ensure nothing is lost in translation. Marian's English is only okay. -Make a big deal if you don't want a lot of hair cut off. If you're not insistent, she'll take several inches off. She did this to me a couple times :( -Marian dries your hair using high heat, which hurts my scalp and damages hair in the long run. Tell her that you want medium heat. -Marian sometimes cuts with a razor, which can damage hair. Tell her BEFORE she begins if you don't want a razor used. -Everyone in this salon takes their time, so clear up a couple of hours in your schedule. It's not just for the haircut, but possible delays. -Finally, I love Marian's cuts but her blowdrying skills are mediocre. My hair is always a bit frizzy when I leave :( Despite the above, I strongly recommend Marian for haircuts. Mine cost only $35 after tip!! read more
