We went to Veranda for Mother's Day. It was ultra crowded and waitstaff rushed. We had to call a waiter over as no one seemed to have our table. The main course I ordered was Jumbo Prawns . Not only were they not Jumbo they only served 2 with mostly risotto on the plate. For $48.00 this was TOTALLY unacceptable. We were long term customers and have even hosted 2 parties there.However after this experience we will never return. The manager could give no reason for the exorbitant price and scant portion other than the prawns came from Nigeria. It was sad but laughable. read more

I love this place! Instead of going to the Bayside Diner next door, (which, I know, has been there forever, but it was time for a change!) Veranda some great food and a great atmosphere. Took a friend to Veranda for his birthday. I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the service. We ordered: 1 glass of white sangria 1 glass of merlot Calamari appetizer 2 seafood orzo and another entree The waiter comes back with a PITCHER of white sangria, in which I intercepted by telling him we had only ordered a glass. He sets it down on our table anyways and said that he'll cover the pitcher for us since it was his mistake. Later he comes back to see how we were doing and points out that we all seemed to be quite enjoying the sangria and he was now our friend. Then he starts talking to my friend about basketball..(probably to diffuse any annoyance that was left over from his mistake) Anyhow the entrees were phenomenal, really the food here was great! Towards the end of our meal, the waiter comes back offering us a dessert menu, saying we could order a dessert on the house because of his mistake. In which my friend declined thinking that if we ordered a dessert he'd then charge us for the pitcher of sangria... well then the waiter brings out a fruit plate with some slices of cantelopes, strawberries, and a couple black raspberries. Then we get the bill, in which we were definitely charged for the pitcher of sangria which we did not order $37.00 at that. Don't get why the waiter offered for things he did not follow through with. At that point I should've really spoken to the manager, so I take some blame for allowing the waiter to do what he did. My girlfriend and I went to Veranda earlier today for the first time in the hopes of having some brunch... Unfortunately we just missed it and were told that brunch is not served past 2PM. We instead were given a dinner menu and decided to stay because of the great ambiance. There is a large outdoor patio area that is covered by multiple large awnings and umbrellas over tables. Diners can enjoy a nice breeze without baking in the sun which is always great. The entire front of the restaurant has floor to ceiling glass windows which can be opened to allow fresh air into the restaurant. This allows you to feel as if you were outside while still being inside. We sat inside, right against where the windows were opened. While the restaurant is on Northern Blvd., they have installed glass partitions along the side of the restaurant facing the street so that traffic is muffled. We could not hear a single car approximately 30 feet back from the sidewalk. On to the food and service. After ordering drinks, we were given a small basket of toasted pita bread with a type of hummus and a cheese spread (goat?) that both were awesome and refreshing. I skipped appetizers and my girlfriend ordered a salad. Unfortunately she did not get a chance to eat it because she quickly found a long hair buried in the salad. The waiter apologized and offered to bring another but we declined. We saw him walk it over immediately to the manager who inspected it and came over to our table to introduce himself and apolgized again. He explained that no one in the kitchen has long hair, did not blame my girlfriend (it was a completely different color hair), and explained that sometimes hair and other foreign objects are not properly filtered out during packaging and subsequent cleaning at the restaurant. We took this at face value and did not hold it against the restaurant since they were very honest, open, and quick acting about it. For the entree I had the Veranda burger. It was served on a toasted brioche bun with hand cut fries. The fries were great. The burger was just ok. I don't understand why more restaurants don't season their beef for burgers. It was good but not great. My girlfriend had ordered the Wild Mushroom Ravioli which she said was delicious. I normally do not eat mushrooms but I tried a bite and I would definitely order this next time. It was great, light, and looked amazing. For dessert we ordered the creme brulee. When it was brought out the manager stopped by to let us know it was comped due to the salad issue. That was text book great service - we didn't ask for a free item and out dining experience was great up to this point even with the salad incident. The most memorable part about this place was the mushroom ravioli. I love mushroom ravioli, and usually ravioli dishes serve about 4 pieces of it. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a huge dish of ravioli, which I could not finish. It was good (I wouldn't say that it was phenomenal, though), and they were cute little square ones that reminded me of chef Boyardee. The worst part of the meal was that the waiter didn't take my ravioli order. I guess I could have mis-communicated my order or something, we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. read more

We came here for a late lunch on Saturday and there was almost nobody in there. He ordered the California Omelet (I think? Don't quote me on that. it's the omelet with avocado and cheddar cheese and a bunch of other stuff) and he really enjoyed it. I got the crabcake burger which wasn't bad. The crabcake tasted fresh and wasn't loaded with bread crumb which I appreciate. The fries were good too. Now, I do have a couple of complaints that bump this from 4/5 stars to 3. First of all, the drink prices are ridiculous. We realized the menu wasn't super cheap (which was fine) but when we got the bill, his two glasses of apple juice totaled $8. Are you kidding me? I feel like charging $4 for one, with free refills is justifiable, but $8 for two glasses? That's robbery. I almost don't want to return simply because of that. I understand not all drinks come with free refills, but I've never felt so ripped off over drinks in my life. Next, the service was unbelievably slow at the end. It probably took a solid 20 minutes after we finished the food to receive and pay our bill. That's my largest pet peeve at a restaurant. I hate feeling like I'm just sitting and waiting to get out of there. We'd probably come back and give it another chance for dinner. See if the service is any better. read more

The brunch did not really include anything in the meal, just the omelette and it was mediocre at best. This place is great, awesome food and wonderful service. The red pepper-feta dip with grilled pita is amazing. The zucchini chips are the best ever, hands down, perfectly fried. The arugula salad (I ask for no beets) is ridiculous... candied pecans, salty cheese, I always get it. Their brunch is really great... lunch and dinner too. The ambiance is really nice, when the weather is warm they have outdoor seating near their waterfall and they offer 'private' parties. There doesn't seem to be an actual private room, but they situate things so it can be separated from the rest of the restaurant. We had our rehearsal dinner here after we went to St. Nicholas Church right down the street. Nick made everything perfect... we had a beautiful secluded table, our own menu with our names on it, my mother who has extreme allergies got all the attention she dreamed of and enjoyed her food which is difficult at most restaurants. Everything was seriously top notch and we felt like everything was taken care of the entire time. Nick, a manager there that I just mentioned, seriously is the best I've seen. He is non-stop attending to everyone's needs, he is on point and the reason the service is so great here. Very rare! I highly recommend this place for pretty much anything. read more

I came here on a Sunday night dinner with the goal of having a relaxing meal outdoors with friends. I got exactly what I had hoped. The weather was cooperating and it was a welcomed change to sit outside. They have pretty high hedges, so they block out the unattractive boulevard. You kind of forgot where you were. My friends ordered cocktails that looked amazing. The bartender actually mashed the blackberries and mint in a mortar and pestle, which people don't realize how important it is to release the juice and essences. These were proper cocktails! The food was surprisingly good. Ever since Sala closed, I have not enjoyed a Mediterranean meal quite this much. We had zucchini chips with tzatziki sauce, grilled octopus with a balsamic reduction, and mussels for appetizers. The mini mountain of zucchini chips were crispy and mussels were a bit on the sweet side. My personal favorite was the grilled octopus. It tasted fresh and bouncy, not rubbery or powdery like many places. The highlight of my meal was my entree. I ordered the seafood orzo which was full of giant shrimp, whole scallops, and mussels. Everything was fresh and bouncy again, not overcooked at all. I loved the fresh lemon and thyme in the orzo, really balanced the richness of the dish. Since it was a birthday dinner, the staff gave me a complimentary dessert. I chose the chocolate soufflé with ice cream. What a wonderful way to end a meal. The only con was the creme brûlée. It was cold and barely had any caramelized sugar, although the waiter did mention that this was their second attempt. They had burnt the first attempt. I am guessing that they had issues with their torch?? Service was decent and staff was very pleasant, although it was not a busy night. Hope they are this good when it is bustling! read more

Veranda is my new fav go-to place in Queens. I've tried a few items already and loved everything. Their frappes are amazing, the free pita bread with the spicy feta cheese is delicious, their salads are yummy and the portions are generous, their risotto is to die for, and their desserts are great as well. First time yelper and this restaurant made me sign up to write my first review. If you want both great food and service, this place is for you. Our party of three was greeted by the manager who offered to hang our jackets. Loved the warm pita bread/hummus dip/cheese. Our waitress was extremely friendly and didn't mind repeating the special for us multiple times. We ordered the swordfish with veges (special), citrus roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and veges, and kobe beef meatballs with linguini (special). The food was just enough to keep you full and satisfied. Everything tasted great (although chicken tasted a little dry) and flavorful. We didn't have room for desert but the manager (George) kindly offered us some complimentary pastries. I'm usually picky about service at restaurant, and I feel Veranda really offers "genuine customer service." Finally, a restaurant that I wouldn't mind coming back to in Bayside! Veranda isn't anything too special, but it stands out in a town littered with mediocre restaurants. Our waiter was very nice and polite but seemed inexperienced, or like he was living in his own world with no sense of time, even after we explained that we had a show to catch and would like our check. We had to flag down a different waiter (an experienced and equally friendly man) a few times to go grab our guy. Had the salmon with couscous (salmon was good but didn't like the couscous texture at all -- felt like ikura popping in my mouth) and the chicken with gnocchi (buttery and tasty). The warm pita bread in the beginning is also a nice surprise, but I found myself wishing that the cheese they serve it with was a little less strong -- regardless, we polished off the basket. Had one drink and it was strong, so no complaints there. Would go back again, but next time when I have no time restraints because this could be one long meal. read more

I added salmon to it and it ended up being $29. It was a decent amount of salmon tho... Somehow I didn't realize that this particular salad didn't come with any form of lettuce. Lol. It was literally tomatoes (which I don't eat), cucumbers, a few olives, red onions, and two blocks of feta cheese. I enjoyed it while I ate it but I definitely wanted some lettuce. Lol. Absolutely love this place. The outdoor seating is great for a spring/summer day there are umbrellas for shade. Staff very friendly. We started off with chips and guacamole, a little pricy ... (15$) then I got the lunch prix fixe menu which was 27 or 29$ . I Started off with calamari then broiled salmon and then brownie for dessert. My date got a burger ( forgot what it is called) but very juicy and delicious. The broiled salmon was cooked perfectly. And the sauce that was on top was absolutely delightful. Best salmon I've had this year. Brownie was warm and crispy around the sides and chewy in the middle. Love this place and would love to come back another day. read more

Overpriced diner food. We ordered the mushroom ravioli and seafood linguini for entrees. The ravioli tasted frozen and was way too salty. The shrimp in the linguini was over cooked and was as tough as boot leather. That dish was also too salty. The only saving graces were the grilled octopus and the attentive service. Staff is uber friendly. Decor is banging. Everything is brand new. My sis, 2month old niece and I went on Friday May 13. We were treated super warmly and seated promptly. The waitress was great, opened our wine (twist off bottle of Pinot for $22-lord) and refilled our glass when needed. The warm bread basket came with crumbled cheese then some other weird brown paste. Would have been better and simpler to serve it with olive oil. Calamari app- small. The dip was oily as heck. My sister's pasta looked like can pasta but she liked it (she's Mikey). I had the mushroom ravioli which was chewey and overdone. I'm not a complainer at all and my tone may seem low in this review but I just think the prices are arrow up for arrow down food. Got there for lunch time. Had a bit of a calming feel to it, like an oasis in the middle of a city jungle. I ordered the crabcake burger with a side of sweet potato fries (tasted so fresh). I love when food is presented well and they nailed it. I barely wanted to touch my food so much the colors were vibrant. I washed it all down with a few mojitos and finished it off with an apple pie crumb. It seemed like the pie was also filled with a bit of a crème pâtissière which was new to me. It still tasted good. So we finally decided to try this place out for brunch and we're very pleased! (In spite of some poor reviews) . It wasn't packed (we arrived at 11), but still had a bit of a crowd. We sat outdoors, and really enjoyed the ambiance. As far as the warm pita and spreads, even though I don't like hummus we won't complain about it like other people, because hey it was complimentary! Since we were quite hungry, I ordered the California omelet-which did not disappoint! Note: Very generous on the avocado! My husband ordered the steak and eggs-perfectly seasoned and properly cooked, it was a good cut of meat for a reasonable price. Additionally, we shared the challah french toast since it looked amazing! Luckily, although our portions were sizeable because it was so delicious we ate all of it! I'm actually surprised that this place only has 3 stars, because my experience here with my friends were FANTASTIC. After arguing about what to eat for brunch, my friends and I decided to go to Veranda because it was close to where we were at the moment. To our surprise, we were seated immediately by the windows. We probably beat the Sunday crowd because there were people waiting by the time we were finished with our meals. We ordered the following: - California Omelet: Big chunks of advocados, plenty of cheese and eggs cooked perfectly. We got this with hasbrowns, very thin. Wasn't a big fan, but the omelet was awesome - Mediterranean Omelet: Fresh feta, plenty of spinach and tomatoes. What could make it better you ask? Sweetpotato fries. Yum... - Buckwheat Pancakes with bacon: We weren't sure if they were buckwheat, because it wasn't grainy at all. Maybe their pancakes are that good, or the waiter gave us regular pancakes. Either way, Very fluffy, delicious and definitely makes you want to hog it. One bad thing in my opinion is that I wish it had more fruit, but it's just a personal preference. - Zuccini Chips: The salt wasn't evenly sprinkled, but it was crispy, sweet and delicious with the white sauce. Great to share with your friends (if you want to that is) - Calamari Salad: Lots of fresh greens and grilled calamari. They didn't over dress the salad was it was great. We previously read that waiters here were awkward, but I don't agree (well, at least the waiter we had was AWESOME!). To start, I do like the food here. I've been here 2 times and each time it was very good. Now the funny thing is that most people agree that the decor is good but then the food was a mix review but I'm actually the other way around. If you want to price the food at half of what they are charging then the decor is super. However by making it an upscale restaurant, i think that the decor is cheesy. If you gave me less money then what the restaurant probably spent on the decor i would have been able to make it so that the ambiance and the food price meets. But I digress. Both times I came here the service was excellent and the food was cooked properly and the favor was on spot. I never really go nuts about hamburgers and rarely do I order them at a high priced restaurant but my friend ordered it and made me try it. It was really good and cooked perfectly. The other night I order the rib eye steak and it was cooked well and once again the flavoring was on spot. However the cut of meat was left to desire. It was a piece that i could buy at a supermarket ,no wait I can get a better cut at wholefoods so no the cut was really bad and looked like it was less than 1/2 inch. The garlic mash was so good that I felt the extra pounds creeping on to my body but yes I finished it. I can't wait to review once again after I've been there more but so far it looks very promising esp. in an area where above average food is hard to find. Several years ago, we found this place by chance driving up Northern Blvd. What a gem! The place is immaculate with amazing service. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. Brunches are often packed. I'm a huge fan of Veranda. This was my 3rd or 4th time being here. We came by on Easter Sunday for brunch, right after church. It was a gorgeous day outside and so we decided to sit and eat outside. When we sat down the waiter came over and gave us an extra seat to put our purses on, so we didnt have to set them on the floor (how sweet is that!?). I order the California omelet and my sister and also split the french toast (which ended up being the entire table split it. Its that big!). The food is great and very fresh. They also start with a spicy feta cheese and pita which is delicious! This is a great local brunch place and a nice place for a girls day/night or a date. read more

Another reviewer called this a diner masquerading as a restaurant. Spot on. Diner food and service at restaurant prices. The pancakes were pretty good, but cost $4 per pancake + $1 for the plate - it costs $13 for 3 pancakes and $9 for 2. My father got a side of hashbrowns, which were cold when they arrived. His bacon side, by the way, arrived when the rest of us were halfway through our meal (even though my partner's bacon side came with the rest of the food). They gave me the wrong omelet, and took the plate away right away to fix it... .though when they brought me the right one the hashbrowns had gone cold on the plate. I wasn't going to say anything, as I didn't want the omelet to go cold! When we asked for the bill, they brought it very quickly, but then disappeared - the waitress was very rude when we finally got her attention and showed her they had charged us for an extra side of bacon, and begrudgingly agreed to take it off. It was a beautiful day out and wanted a spot to have brunch with my husband outdoors. We stopped by at 11:30am and were told we could sit but that they are still in the process of opening. The waitress said she will go and check to see if she can take orders or not....but came back still confused till the manager came by and said she should take our order.... Our waitress was super annoying, she just seemed super flustered, and not the brightest.... However, we were patient with her because, maybe she was new... The food is good, I got the traditional egg Benedict and my husband was raving about his nova egg Benedict ( the one with the lox). I got a virgin bloody Mary which was nicely spicy and my hubs got a latte... It was good... Not great... But it was tasty. Just nothing special. Some things I wish they would consider--- offer fresh squeezed juices. For such a fancy place I'd expect fresh squeezed orange juice during brunch... Make or at least reheat your hash before you plate it so I feel like I am eating something fresh and hot.... Lastely, make sure your waitresses know what a latte is.... I would go back for the ambiance and if I want to sit outdoors on a nice warm day. read more

The food is great and every time I go the service is great as well. The valet opening isn't really worth it when you can find parking nearby for free. I came here last Thanksgiving with my mom actually. They have a special menu for Thanksgiving. The food again, like always was great. The environment is pretty nice as well. I seldom trek out to these neck of the woods, but when I do it's usually to have brunch with friends that have kids. A great alternative to the usually crowded Bayside Diner that's located across the street; the lay out of the establishment was definitely put together with the family sized clientele in mind. Each table have been sufficiently spaced so that customer's can park the stroller alongside the tables, the staff always has the needs of the child in mind even before the parents would ask, they offered water in a plastic container for my friend's child each time that we've been there. I'm not a parent but I know there's always a routine that they have go through when their out with the kids. The food offered has been consistent each time I have gone which can be best described as being above average. The portions are way too generous since I'm usually overly stuffed when I leave this place. The one thing I always have to order is the zucchini chips (yes it's fried, just go run a few miles afterwards and you'll be fine!). read more
