Veranda is a fantastic place. The ambience is great. Terrific music in the background. The inside looks trendy and they have an amazing outdoor space. Terrific stone work. A lot of seating. Tranquil and serene. You would never know you were sitting right off northern Blvd in bayside. The trees and Christmas lights make a great place to have drinks or eat dinner My go to is the baby arugula salad chopped with grilled chicken. First they chop it right. They chop everything. I hate when a place chops the salad and leaves the chicken in whole strips. Also Veranda is one of the only places that chops the salad and still places it in a nice presentation. You are greeted with pita and two house spreads. The first which is good is a white bean and sun-dried tomato spread. The second is fabulous. A feta spread that has a nice hint of heat to it and you can taste the oil olive. Great way to start your sit down experience. Finally the have valet. Great place to go. read more

If you don't like excellent food, good service, large portions, & a nice ambiance please don't go to Veranda. We ate here (again) & it never disappoints. I started with a beet, arugula salad. Terrific. Dressing was very tasty & it wasn't saturated as some restaurants do. My wife had the tuna tartare & it was SO fresh, SO tasty, that I kept picking off her plate. I had salmon served with vegetables. I'm a big eater & was unable to finish. It was sushi quality,prepared as I ordered. My wife had crab cakes. Not a go to for me but she loved them. This actually was my favorite restaurant in bayside due to their beautiful outdoor brunch area, the food & their exquisite service. NOT ANYMORE. As usual, I ordered my grilled calamari salad to go. When I arrived at my office to eat my lunch, I opened the bag and pulled one of the paper bags out and there was: CHEWED GUM stuck onto two of the paper bags. GROSS I immediately called the restaurant and asked for a manager. Once I told him what I had found, his response was- okay but how's the salad? ...... I hadn't even opened the salad yet and obviously by the lack of cleanliness of their packaging, how could I trust that their food won't have chewed gum inside as well? When I told him I haven't even had a chance to open the food yet, he replied with: okay well open the salad and give me a call back if there's anything wrong w the food. Sorry about that. Literally I got off the phone feeling even worse than I did when I found the gum on my bags. I heard from a few people that the food is good but a little pricey. I split the zucchini chips appetizer, which was amazing! They were hot, lightly breaded, sliced really thin and delicious! The service there is amazing! The server always refill your bread and the great dips with it. I had the yellowfin tuna sandwich. I'm glad I asked for the wasabi mayo on the side. I'm just not a fan of the wasabi mayo but if you liek it you will really like it. I like this place a lot! I will def come back for the great food and amazing service! read more

Yesterday was one of those 10 most beautiful days of the year and as a result, we were all hell bent on outdoor dining. A quick search on Yelp reminded of us Veranda, a restaurant that we have been eating at since it opened. As we were not very hungry instead of getting individual entrees we opted for sharing 3 appetizers instead. We went with the Kobe Beef sliders, guacamole and fried zucchini chips. It was a feast made in heaven for us and sitting in their lovely outdoor dining area, made us feel like we were in the Garden of Eden. We kept our clothes on nonetheless. Just so there is no misunderstanding, they have a lovely indoor dining area too. The service was very good and they know how to provide you with what you want and let you alone to enjoy your experience with one another while still paying attention to your needs. This restaurant has a very big space inside and outside (during the warmer months)! Great for private parties. My second time dining at Veranda, I had brunch. There are several options that cover just about all brunch items. And the prices are great for their portion sizes. I enjoyed a HUGE Belgian waffle topped with fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries). The waffle is served with some maple syrup on the side. Besides the waffle, I ordered a cup of hot tea and a mimosa. With tax and tip I spent about $30. Not a bad deal to me! They have valet parking I am just not sure where. I found street parking because I did not see a sign for Valet. However when I left the restaurant, I saw people waiting for their cars. Hhhmmmm I am definitely going back. Maybe for a romantic dinner next time. Or brunch again in the summer so I can sit outside! Or maybe BOTH!! read more

Both the food and the service is magnificent-- we swooned over the tuna tartare special, which is like a bite of summer, with avocado, sesame seeds, delicate tuna, green onions, cilantro-- truly sublime. The menu is generally Mediterranean, with staples like spinach pie and dips, but it ranges into more creative territory, such as zucchini chips and seafood orzo, which features perfectly-cooked shrimp, mussels and scallops in a surprisingly delicate tomato sauce. Birthday dinner with family 2 kids 4 adults - great atmosphere, prepared for outdoor dining. Lovely flowers surround you and outdoor area is covered with awning and umbrellas for lots of shade. There's even a water wall with a pool (cooling not for swimming lol) Mediterranean food fresh and good. Appies/meze and drinks first - worked well with allergies. Kept things separated for safety, loved that. Octopus salad, saganaki cheese, dip variety. The drinks were unique - We all had mojitos with different add-ons. Good flavor pairings. Our waiter was helpful and knew the food and drinks well. Great service. Our meals were tasty, 2 of us had lamb chops, one a branzini and then one had scallops. We all enjoyed our meals and had ample servings. Lemon potatoes were excellent, yum. The kids had chicken fingers and the other had pasta. We went around 11:30am on a Sunday for brunch, there was a party happening but still plenty of seating, not too loud, beautiful on the inside and nice view outside. Service was timely and friendly. The Vanill Challah French toast was delicious with fresh large strawberries; the California omelet was also great- I ordered it as take out and the meal was still hot after 15 minutes. I went on a Monday late lunch around 2:30pm. There were very few people, a calm nice environment. The visual atmosphere was so pretty, great for catching up with friends and going on a date. The bathroom was small, but clean, so that was all good. :) I wasn't hungry, so I ordered just the appetizer, guacamole, which came with baked chips (so delicious!) and got a cup of chamomile tea. The waiter came to check if I needed refilling of hot water, which I appreciated. One thing I personally don't like is when the waiter comes and checks too often. I think he checked a bit too much just to ask "how is everything" when neither my friend nor I looked at him and we were deep in conversation; not a dealbreaker! Just a personal note from me. Always passed by Veranda for the last 5 years and finally had the chance to dine here this past weekend, with a friend. We sat outside in their garden area and waterfall. It was beautiful and made you forget that the hustle and bustle of Northern Boulevard was just right outside. Service was incredible. We had the most adorable waitress, who's name I didn't catch but she kept us entertained for the duration of our evening with her great service. Had the pleasure of speaking with one of the managers, Demetrie and he too was a pleasure to speak to. Came here for a pre-dinner snack and ordered apps. The zucchini chips here are my absolute favorite; however my last visit here on the day after Christmas they were not quite as perfectly light and crispy as usual. Still way better than any others i have tried but my main issue was the portion size definitely was smaller. Usually they come out in an impressive mountain that draws interested stares from any tables who have not yet experienced these. I suppose it can be chalked up to harder times for restaurants these days so i understand, but they are not a cheap appetizer either. I went here for a quick bite to eat with my cousin and ordered the steak salad. The portion was enormous and the steak was cooked to absolute perfection. I ordered a strawberry margarita and it was the perfect blend of sweet and sour. This was a horrible restaurant and I would not return back for a second visit. The waitstaff took over 10 minutes to a knowledge us and our table. It Leaves a horrible impression when you have to wait for the waitstaff to figure out the tables. Our waiter even told us that he wasn't really our waiter until he asked. The bread plate was bright out with food on it. The food was cold also we asked for our check because we were in hurry to get to an appointment and the waiter seemed disappointed that we were not adding dessert and coffee on the bill. The thing that turned me off the most was when we paid our bill the waiter clearly mentioned that they would prefer a cash tip since we paid by card. I just thought that was rude and tacky. Has dinner last night with my wife, son and grandson, after not being there for more than a year. Except for the service at the beginning of our meal, this was one of the most enjoyable restaurant meals I've had in a long time. The appetizer of 4 dips was a delicious start, the salads were very good and my picky eater grandson loved his pasta in a creamy rosa sauce. I had the 2 pound black seabass and even at $48.00 it was worth every penny. The whole fish was grilled perfectly and the side of baby broccoli enough to 2 people. The deserts of chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream and the Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and an amazing sauce made with carrots was a perfect ending . The live entertainment was wonderful and made us feel like we were on vacation on a Greek island. I don't know why we hadn't been there for so long but that won't happen again. read more

I am not sure why this place got such a low rating from others, but this place is a GEM in Queens. You can say I am spoiled. (I live in the city, and extremely close to St. Marks) I can get good food at almost every corner. However, to find a place in Queens that serves food Manhattan style, but with the Long Island Decor and service? This is it. I came here for a friend's birthday party, and we were the last ones to arrive. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the water fall they had to the right hand side. The sound of water is so serene. I already felt comfortable. The hostess held open the door for us and a maitre' d showed us to our friends table. As soon as we sat down, the waiter had offered us a drink at the open bar. He was extremely friendly, and offered to take pictures of us. It was nice of him. I'd say, very well mannered. Now for the important part. The food!! Since I've been more adventurous, I picked the dish that I would not order and went with Red Snapper. Then the waiter asked if I wanted it whole with the head and tail, or filet. I looked at him strange, because with my Asian background, I don't expect an American place to serve the fish whole, so I asked for filet. My husband order the lamb shank (to share with me of course ^_^) I also ordered a side of wild rice. Every has agreed to share appetizers of Mussels, Sweet potato fries, calamari, and asparagus. Appetizers were good. Especially the mussels were flavored :) Also comes with two slices of bread to dip into the sauce. It was tasty. The rest of the appetizers were equally good. When I received my main course of the red snapper, i was extremely surprised by the size of it. Usually when I order fish at a fancy dancy restaurant in Manhattan I only get a filet about the size of my hand. But inside I got the whole fish!!! Oh my word. And my rice was a good portion. I offered my fish to everyone and even after that I still can't fish it. I can't believe how tasty it was. The lamb shank was awesome too. It was so tender and full of flavor. Second time I had lamb, and I really enjoy it. Young gave me a piece of his lamb chop, and it was so tasty as well! Overall I will most likely come back to this place. I came here for Brunch on a Sunday. First piece of advice is give up on looking for the enterance...there is no sign, just zigzag zag onto the veranda. Lol The place had an air of sophistication, with well dressed service staff, cloth napkins, and a thought out decor. That being said, it felt like a slightly dated color scheme, all beige and muted warm colors. The space is open, but does have a slight feel of being a hotel restaurant. The menu was standard, and moderately priced. There was no signature options...just eggs Benedict, pancakes, eggs, omelets...nothing truly unique. I settled upon the Nova Lox Eggs Benedict. My boyfriend on the Asian noodle salad with chicken. Complementary pita was offered with some peppery hummus and crumbled feta. The bread was warm and fresh, and the sides flavorful. My eggs Benedict was not bad. There was a healthy amount of smoked salmon...technically not lox...but it was still tasty. The eggs were actually perfectly poached. The home fries were shredded, and a little wet...could have had some more moisture cooked out of them. They were tasty though. The Asian noodle salad was really a cold noodle bowl. It was flavorful and surprisingly filling. My boyfriend also had a mimosa which was garnished with a fresh strawberry. The service was attentive and friendly, which was nice, but there were probably as many staff as there were customers. Overall, I give the place a three for quality service and decent food. I think this place is suitable for taking the parents after church, or some friends who want brunch, but aren't looking for anything too adventurous or loud. If I could improve, I'd add a few unique signature dishes, play with some of the classics to make them Veranda's, and not just a nice version of the diner across the street. So much potential...and a great space...just needs a kick. read more

Stunning. Really stands out on Northern Blvd. Entire staff was very personable and did not rush us. Food was innovative and delicious. Sampled a lot of different appetizers. The gnocchi was one of the best I have ever had. So pillowy and brown. Soft in your mouth. Just perfect and not traditional. A definite to order. Iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and the addition of smoked bacon put it over the top. Mmmmm love bacon. It really does make everything better. Risotto croquettes stuffed with mozzarella were piping hot, popped and melted in your mouth. Divine. Grilled octopus was sooooooo tender. The balsamic was a bit over powering, but you can't find a better octopus than what they serve. Props to the chef. I had the red snapper with rice which was on special. Fish was very fresh and prepared nicely. Lovely looking dish. Finished off my meal with a dense piece of pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Everything was wonderful. I was close to giving them 5 stars, but I will stick with a strong 4.5. Menu has a Mediterranean stronghold with some Italian and American presence. Even the complimentary pita with feta is a big hit. The place has a wide range. It's perfect for all occasions. Large groups, causal meal, romantic dinner, family get together. Such a nice looking place...but sooo many things wrong with it. Particularly the wait staff. A few sips into my glass of water, I noticed lipstick mark on it. So I told the waitress when she brought the food. She apologized, took the glass away and didn't bring another one. I had to ask for it when she came back to the table. Then she and a coworker were cleaning up another table and spilled the milk for coffee. He cleaned the table, then the floor, and cleaned the table again with the same rag and repeated. All infront of customers that were waiting to sit at that table. While this is probably normal behind the scenes, do u really expect customers to sit at a table wiped with a rag u cleaned the floor with? They told the host about it and got their table cleaned with another rag. Waitress was also not friendly or personable. I don't need someone to kiss my ass, be fake and bubbly. But if u're working for tips, and ur misery shows, that's pretty bad. Especially if it's not like we were needy and annoying. As for the food...totally meh for the price. Pricey and mediocre. Hash for potatoes is lame at a place like this. It wasn't even good hash. Omelette was ok nothing special. The food doesn't match what the restaurant wants to be. They always have had outdoor dining but now they have made it especially lovely with plantings and tables far apart. The service was extraordinary, rare in this Covid time. Almost everything was delicious. One of their special appetizers is a tower of fried zucchini, which we had a hard time resisting when we saw it being brought to many other tables. And we were glad we ordered it. Done perfectly and served with a cool yogurt herb dip, it was terrific. We also ordered fried calamari, the one disappointment of the meal. Just skip it. We shared a grilled pink snapper special- it came in three sizes - we ordered the small size to share, which was plenty for us. It was cooked perfectly and arrived filleted and split for us, with a plate of very tasty grilled veggies to share. Dessert- we shared a perfectly done creme brûlée, I had an expresso and my friend had a cappuccino which she said was excellent. The staff was lovely and accommodating all evening.
