    Mango margarita
    Sally M.

My husband and I finally are kicking ourselves for not dining at Verdes El Ranchero sooner! We were walking by and had a hankering for a margarita, so we decided to have lunch here. We were seated right away with chips and salsa brought up fairly quickly. It took us a little time to decide on what to eat, but we ordered our margaritas right away. We were surprised that essentially two glasses were brought out for each of us as the other glass was the "leftover". I ordered the enchiladas suizas and they were really good. I had leftovers. My husband got the chicken tortilla soup and a taco and he could not stop raving about the soup the next day. Our server was very friendly and patient with us as we decided on our food, though we could tell that she was very busy. We did have to request water and that took a little while to get as they got busier. They have a few tables outside in front on the sidewalk. Pricing is very reasonable. We walked here, so parking wasn't an issue for us, but only street parking is available. We'll definitely be back for the soup!

Great authentic hidden gem Mexican food in La Jolla. Met my grandpa, uncle and second cousin for lunch while visiting California over the 4th . . Nice 10-13 min walk from La Valencia hotel where i was staying . Great customer service . Great weather . Extremely reasonable prices in La Jolla . Highly recommend.

Found this place thanks to a client who lives nearby and I'm so glad it was recommended. I've only done takeout so far, but each time the service over the phone has been friendly and quick. I've ordered about 2-3 times now, and it's become my go-to when I'm in the area and craving asada fries but don't feel like driving far. The fries here hit the spot! Crispy, not soggy, and loaded up just right. I appreciated the generous amount of guac and sour cream (they don't skimp), and they didn't hold back on the cheese or asada. Everything stayed nice and warm until I got home too, which is always a win. I've also tried the quesadilla--definitely recommend! Cheesy, flavorful, and not greasy. Prices here feel about what you'd expect to pay in La Jolla- pretty reasonable for the quality and portion size. While I haven't dined in yet, I did notice they have outdoor seating and seem to get a decent amount of traffic, which says a lot. Overall, a dependable, low-key spot for classic Mexican takeout cravings.

Yummy, authentic Mexican food!! I much prefer this to other Mexican spots in La Jolla. The ambience is festive and warm and the food is delicious.

We used to LOVE this local spot. We have seen them raise prices every time we go. This $32 beef dish was twice as big and now it's twice the price. I just don't know how you can raise prices like that and then lessen the portions significantly. They only have 1 or 2 servers during rush so hourly wage is not the problem. SUPER SAD :(

Service is great! Food comes out fast! Our waitress checked on us a few times during dinner. Food is decent and good. Not quite authentic Mexican food. Huge portions. Ambience is fun! This place looks like where a lot of young locals like to hangout. Chips and salsa came out quick! Before the menus even arrived. Hot & fresh! We ordered: Pineapple Margarita- I was hoping they were using fresh pineapple but it's basically just pineapple juice with margarita mix and heavy on the tequila. Crispy Carnitas Tacos - loaded tacos! I love that they use green leaf lettuce. The carnitas was good. Two tacos plate - hubby said their beans were good!! Chile verde plate - must be good because my son ate everything! Enchilada and Taco plate - my daughter said the enchilada was really good.

Mostly diced tomato, very little shrimp and avocado as depicted on website photos. Cost saving techniques to increase profits is my guess.

We appreciated they brought out our food to us and brought over hot sauce and extra napkins. They do serve beer and some other drinks. I asked to sample a beer but I guess they don't do that and instead just charged me for a normal pint. La Jollita from start to finish is 5 Stars! The staff that greets you is everything you want them to be. Warm and welcoming. Now, as a group (San Diego Foodies and Carlsbad Foodies on meetup) that has been doing Restaurant Reviews since 2008, I can honestly say in this last year we've had more FIVE STAR Restaurants come into San Diego. And I can tell you personally, I am thrilled! It's hard to do a Restaurant Review when you are scrambling to eat, eat, eat. But let's listen to some of the comments ..... Robyn says: "The fresh tuna is out of this world". Hiroe agrees and so do I. Hiroe says: "The Shrimp Ceviche is fantastic". "And the salad is Yummy" adds Robyn. I just love that the shrimp is cooked in its' shell. "It shows that it's fresh shrimp" says Hiroe. I mention that you get more flavor from anything cooked in its' shell. Even when I cook corn. I leave it in its' husk even if I am boiling it on the stove. We all enjoy different tacos. Steve says: "I really like the beef". Robyn has a Tuna Tostada and says: "I will come back and eat 3 of those". Let me just say: "I am not a taco girl". But now I understand why people like tacos. I will come back and try more"! So many choices. So little time! lol My pictures are gorgeous but they just won't upload. I will try again later! Thank you La Jollita and welcome to the neighborhood! The ravioli was the standout of the night, thin pasta with just enough filling for a delightful bite. The bucatini all'amatriciana wasn't quite what I'm accustomed to, the guanciale was ground rather than diced, and the sauce leaned more toward a meat sauce with an oily finish, not really my style, though the pasta itself was cooked well al dente. The steak, on the other hand, was excellent. Cocktails were great, and the staff were attentive throughout. For dessert, the trio was a nice way to sample a few things, though I wish they offered smaller sampler portions instead of full-size pieces. The Basque cheesecake was excellent and the semifreddo was perfect with a nice crust. The chocolate torte was good but couldn't compete with the other two.
