Chicken Verdiles comes with either pasta or 2 sides

I grew up in the Lansingburgh area so I've known about Verdiles for many years. For those that do not know Verdiles, it is a family run restaurant and back when they first started it was their mother who made the pasta sauce and meatballs. Her recipes are still used today. I love going there, the staff is very warm and welcoming. Everyone is treated like family. The atmosphere reminds me of a 1960's Italian restaurant. They have made many updates and changes to the restaurant but it still has that vibe. I love looking at all the pictures of the Verdiles family that are around the restaurant. I recommend their homemade pasta with your meal. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. You can't go wrong.

It has been quite a few years since SO and I dined at Verdile's. Servers used to be all men in tuxes, but this visit we were greeted by a lovely young woman who was quite efficient taking our order. There is a parking on the side of the building. Appetizer was fried calamari, which comes with choice of marinara, cocktail sauce or remoulade. Tentacles and rings were cooked to perfection, not greasy, tender and golden crispy delicious. Enough for two to share without totally ruining your dinner. Dinner entrees do not include a side salad but does include a lovely loaf of bread. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and scallops. Alfredo sauce was thick and heavenly, pasta was homemade/fresh, just never enough shrimp and scallops for a pescetarian. Was glad to see Verdile's still open. Is a good place for a good meal.

Classic classy and delicious. Wonderful service and the menu is varied and unique. Close to Peebles island state park for a wonderful pre or post meal walk along the Mohawk River.

For over 75 years Verdiles has been hosting customers providing great food and great service. Old school atmosphere is quite welcoming. Menu is fresh and updated. Parking is plentiful. Prices are reasonable. I love the congenial atmosphere in the bar.

And that ranking is well deserved. You get a strong familial feel walking into DeFazio's. If you're lucky enough to meet the Boss himself (he will actually be wearing a shirt that says "Boss"), he will give you a history lesson on the pizzeria, his family, and the state of pizz-ology Nationwide. He proudly proclaims that he is still The Sauce Guy around these parts because he has to keep up the quality control. There's something special about eating at a restaurant where the owner cares that much about the product, and they want you to as well. I encourage you to take the plunge and order the General Tso's pizza. It sounds insane, I know. But if you grew up eating this stuff, it will take you back to a time where you were traversing a mall food court and eating free samples (funny enough, that was the inspiration for this pizza). A lot of chicken-based pizzas will have red sauce as a base, but this is actually replaced with the Tso's special blend which has a beautiful sweet-heat to it. If you're coming here for the first time, it's nice to also balance a pizza like that out with a classic. Maybe a cheese or something similar. That way you can try out the red sauce and cheese in its purest form. I had the pleasure of walking through a cheese packing session that was going on in the restaurant, so I got to see that raw mozz up close, maybe 20 pounds of it. At that moment, I felt as though I was approaching enlightenment. When fully melted on that 'za, this cheese has the ideal mix of density and squish. DeFazio's has a special place in my heart. Your time here will make you feel like you are in a pizza sitcom. And you will leave with a feeling that you may have just had some of the best pizza of your life.

I haven't been to this original location on 4th St. in Troy for a few years. The family operation is nearly 100 years old. Remarkably, it's very much as I remember it. A tiny place with three tables. Some of the seating looks like repurposed church pews. The youthful staff, friendly as always. They were running into some delays as orders came pouring in just before dinnertime. They'd have to check to see if they could fit our order for a big pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and peppers. They squeezed us in! Since the wait would be between 20-30 minutes we kept ourselves busy by checking out the desserts in the self serve refrigerator. I picked out a slice of "hangover" (alcohol) cake and I devoured it before our meal arrived. It was so delicious and naughty fun to eat our dessert before the meal. The pizza was fantastic when it arrived. I prefer crisp crusts-- this one was not-- but it was awesome just the same. My friend and I were so hungry that we consumed half of the pie before I realized that we hadn't photographed our delicious pizza. The remaining half was boxed and taken home to be enjoyed for a couple more days. The staff was so ready. They came to our table with the box and we settled up our bill. A lot to be said for tradition and quality. I've also visited DeFazio's in Albany, but I have yet to visit the relatively new restaurant up the block. Thanks, DeFazio's, for another great meal.

The house salads were traditional with creamy Bleu cheese dressing shredded carrots cabbage cucumbers cherry tomatoes and olives. The iceberg was fresh and the salad plate chilled. We both enjoyed a peice of warm bread and whipped butter with the salad. Both veal entrees were served low temperature but the angel hair pasta was piping hot. I had plenty of button mushrooms that needed a but more time on sautee. I think they mushrooms were moved too quickly and could have developed a deeper flavor. The only thing we really waited during dinmer for water and cocktail refills. For my first time dining here I definitely enjoyed the food.

Rosanna's -- A Genuine Gem That Deserves Every Star There…read moreare restaurants you visit and forget, and then there are restaurants that stay with you long after the last bite. Rosanna's is firmly in the second category -- and after an exceptional dinner that left both of us completely satisfied and already planning our return visit, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. From the moment we walked in, the ambience set the tone for the entire evening. Warm, inviting and thoughtfully designed, Rosanna's strikes that rare balance between intimate and lively -- the kind of space that feels equally suited for a romantic dinner for two or a celebratory night out with people you love. The lighting is soft without being dim, the energy is buzzing without being overwhelming, and every detail of the room communicates that this is a place that genuinely cares about the experience it creates for its guests. The service matched the atmosphere perfectly. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu -- not in a rehearsed, corporate way but in the way that only happens when staff actually love where they work and believe in what they're serving. Questions were answered with confidence and warmth, dietary considerations were handled graciously and without any fuss, and the pacing of the meal felt exactly right. Not rushed, not forgotten -- just perfectly timed. It is the kind of service that makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another table to turn over. Now the food -- where do we even begin. We started with the Shrimp Balls and they were an immediate knockout. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented and gone far too quickly. The arugula dip alongside them was bright and fresh -- a genuinely clever pairing that elevated what could have been a simple appetizer into something memorable. This dish alone would be worth coming back for. For mains we ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto -- elevated with a grilled shrimp skewer addition that turned an already outstanding dish into a complete and deeply satisfying meal. The risotto was everything a great risotto should be -- creamy without being heavy, deeply savory with layers of earthy mushroom flavor, finished beautifully with truffled pecorino that added just the right amount of richness. The shrimp skewer on top was perfectly grilled, plump and fresh -- a brilliant pairing with the earthiness of the mushrooms. Our dining companion ordered the Boneless Beef Short Ribs which arrived tender, deeply flavorful and beautifully plated -- the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. What makes Rosanna's truly special is that everything works together -- the room, the service, the food and the overall feeling of being genuinely well taken care of. This is not a restaurant that relies on one strong element to carry the others. Every component earns its place. Whether you are celebrating something special, treating someone you love or simply in search of a great dinner in wonderful company -- Rosanna's delivers on every level. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You will not regret it. And the pellegrino soda was great I got the blood orange! And we took the olive oil orange cake to go yum!

The cuisine was Italian inspired, and heavy on vegan and gluten free option, which is a great find locally, if you're looking for that. We were sat upstairs and I enjoy the ambiance here. I will note that the chairs are uncomfortable, which does not make a cozy dining experience. The cocktail menu was really great, a lot of gin options which is right up my alley. I had the Corpse Reviver and a glass of wine, both were great. We started with the shrimp balls, which sounded intriguing. They ended up being delightful, almost like loose crab cakes. The flavors were great and I loved the pesto. For my entree, I opted for the lemon mushroom tagliatelle. The pasta was very fresh and chewy, loved that. I enjoyed the combination of lemon and mushroom on the dish, but there were so many different mushrooms of all different textures, that some bites were more enjoyable than others. The snapper puttanesca was gorgeous as well. Overall it was a good meal, but I might have liked it a little more before the change. Definitely a great option if you are looking for dietary restrictions.

It was mostly empty at 530 on a Friday night, service was fine but it seemed to be just one woman. We started off with wine and I was pleasantly surprised at the pour. We decided to start with the arancini. They were as expected, a creamy and cheesy risotto, breaded and fried. They were a little bland, and the sauce was very spicy, which we were not expecting, but was fine. The bread brought to the table was very crusty, maybe stale, the pesto dip was nice and the cute "A" in the balsamic was a nice touch. We then moved onto our entrees which were great portions. I ordered the Veal Francese. It costs an extra $5 to put this over pasta, for a $25 dish. So to my understanding, this dish is $25 for a piece of veal in a sauce and a half a cup of zucchini ... that doesn't make sense. Just include the pasta in the price. But, the pasta was great. You could tell it was made in house and had a great texture. The sauce was a thickened lemon/wine/butter sauce. The flavor was great but it was a little goopy. It was thickened with something like cornstarch as opposed to being reduced. There are many notes here, but it was a perfectly fine dish. I took half of it home and enjoyed it later after the show. My friend ordered the sorrentina, which was chicken and eggplant. She loved the dish and it was enormous, I did not sample it but it looked great. This is just a run of the mill average Italian spot. The parm cheese offered for the dishes was a flavorless shaker brought to the table. If you're looking to be impressed, maybe not the best spot, but if you're looking for a quiet dinner to catch up with a friend, why not!
