Verizon is getting on my last nerve this past week. They wanted my daughter to renew her employee discount. My phone is in her name. In the end it appears the discount amounts to a dollar a month. Meanwhile I run into trouble Yelping this past weekend because I ALMOST ran out of data! I got a text and email. I'm glad I caught it because it's $20 if I go over my two gigs plus my carryover data. I barely had carryover data this past month. I typically don't go over but it's been beautiful weather. My friend is recommending I go with Mint Mobile. He pays a year in advance $36 per month and he has unlimited data. As a customer with Verizon for almost 20 years I need them to cut me some slack! I'm tired! read more

don't go here. I'm stuck going back because of the endless mistakes I have to go back to get fixed. . No one is trained and no one knows what they are doing. I traded in 3 phones and was told with the credits the bill would go down by $100. What they didn't explain was that my international plan didn't transfer over and I was charged a fortune for that. Then they totally forgot to take one of the phones that I traded in off my bill so I was being charged double. They couldn't figure out where my trade in phone was. When my son traded in his phone they didn't activate the new one so it didn't work. They just kept selling what a great deal it was. That's all they know to say and it's a lie. When I had to go in endless times to fix and sit there and wait, it took forever cause they are incompetent. They don't know the meaning of customer service and never apologize. they were actually rude instead. They were playing video games with each other and I had to wait until their game was finished. Last time I was there someone else had the same trade in problem so they clearly don't know how to do that or running a scam. They are terrible. I was a little apprehensive coming here based on other reviews, but my experience was great. Upon walking in there was a small line, but employees were quick to let me know I could have a seat and told me they'd be with me soon. Gerard helped me with getting a new phone and he could not have been more helpful and patient. I had a lot of questions and he answered everything, checked in on me as my data was transferring over, and even helped me when I had trouble connecting my Apple Watch to my new phone. The store can definitely get busy, so I recommend going in the morning for less of a wait. read more

TERRIBLE. I made an appointment to have a new unlocked phone activated, and was interested in having my contacts and apps transferred over to the new phone. An associate set up a data transfer over wifi and said it would take about 30 minutes and that we could come back then. We returned about 25 minutes later to check back in. I approached the woman and said "hi" when we returned, she simply walked away without saying anything. When she came back I noticed the data transfer was only 3% complete at this point, and that this process would take forever. I asked why it was taking so long and she told me that I could easily finish this process at home, which was fine by me as my bigger concern was activating the phone. She then called a Verizon number to try to activate the phone. For whatever reason this did not work. Instead of trying a different solution she gave us a phone number to call and said we were "all set" to go. Confused, we ourselves called the Verizon number WHILE IN THE STORE at an empty table to try to activate the phone. After being on hold for about 10 minutes we were able to speak with someone who was actually quite helpful. Not knowing much about this process (in the past I have always taken my phone to the store to have activated and set up without issue), the man on the phone had to walk us through each step of finding and removing Sim cards, checking for compatability, etc. He also seemed confused why no one in the actual store was helping us during my appointment. We had to eventually go back to the woman to ask for a new Sim card (glad we didn't go home to do this as she suggested without it!). She still did not offer further assistance. Finally we were able to set up the phone on our own while the three store employees were chatting amongst themselves or on their own phones. There were no other customers in the store, just us speaking on the phone with a Verizon employee while the 3 employees in the store with us did nothing. I get overly excited when it's phone-upgrade time, so I was psyched to go to Verizon. I have a dumb phone (as opposed to a smart phone), and, to be honest, wanted an iPhone. Whoops! Wrong store. In any case, b/c I am on a serious budget, I had to talk turkey with a customer service rep to figure out the best deal I could get. Usually when I walk by this store it's jammed, so I don't even bother going in... the few times I HAVE gone in, I've had to deal with floor people who surge over to me en mass (perhaps you could go behind one of the registers and help those people in line...?) and explain to me how to type my name into the computer at the kiosk. Yeah. And then I wait for 20 minutes, get annoyed, and leave. For some reason, the line was short this weekend, and I was shuttled, en mass, to the front of the store, which I have never seen. Hooray, I beat the kiosk!!!!!! Sadly, however, the person helping me was less useful than the kiosk. At least the kiosk gets my name right and lets me delete the wrong letters. And gets my phone number right on the first try. And doesn't ask me to repeat the same questions 12 times. And the kiosk has never crashed on me before. The customer service rep's did. BOOOOOOOOO. All I wanted was a stupid phone upgrade. But I spent over an hour watching the girls - including the one supposedly helping me - yap about their nails (crazy fake ones with lots of glitter), yell across the store to their friends at other stations with in-store gossip, and discuss how much they hate their OWN Verizon phones. I'm surprised to see all of these terrible reviews. No, this place isn't fantastic, but it's not the most repugnant store in the universe either! I had no problem with the customer service here - on the contrary, everyone who helped me was pleasant and attentive. Maybe I just happened to go on a good day? Who knows. Came here last Sunday because my phone was stolen/lost on Saturday night and according to "Find my iPhone", was in Nassau County the next day. So, um, not exactly accessible. Because my phone has become an appendage at this point, I felt naked and afraid without one. Thanks to computer texting capabilities, I was able to speak to a family member, who told me that there should be an upgrade on our family plan. So I was off to Verizon. Upon walking in, I was approached almost immediately and Phonegate was one step closer to being put to rest. Things that happened after this: -Customer service rep calls my father (his name is on our shared account), asks him to read back a code, and my name/number is added onto the account, enabling me to take my sister's next upgrade (my next upgrade is in September...I couldn't wait to lose my phone I guess) -Customer service rep makes some bad jokes but small talk is enjoyable -Customer service rep keeps saying "unfortunately" at beginning of his sentences, scaring me each time - is the upgrade not feasible? Will I need to be an exorbitant sum of money? Neither end up being true. -I choose/buy a new phone -I choose/buy a screen protector and case -We wait a very long time for my new phone to restore from my iCloud backup -I am sold a defective case (which I subsequently exchange at no cost, painlessly) -Another customer service rep drops his iPad, breaks the case, walks away -After 1.5 hours, I walk out with a new phone. read more

Verizon FIOS is absolute garbage in NYC, i had it in the past in another city before moving to NYC and it was good but here in NYC the internet drops out every 15mins and even though the bill says 1GB internet speed you only get 700 MB max in the apartment. Store reps will sell you products you don't need. Then they'll link a supposedly "improved" plan that downgrades cell data speed. Then when you try to return the device, they will insist on a restocking fee that they claim they told you about. They are only interested in selling. Customer service and integrity takes a back seat to their clear policy of taking advantage of you. With current tech upgrades, plan changes and NY stress expect to be manipulated and extorted by this retail outfit. I'll never go to a Verizon store again. Wish I didn't have to leave a star. I had an amazing easy experience at this Verizon! I was shocked to receive the type of customer service I did! I've been to many Verizon's when the experience was definitely not good. I came in needing help with changing names on my bill and usually you need to get assistance from phone customer support but I had tried it in the past multiple times and they couldn't seem to fix the issue. Kwesi started helping me right away and was able to fix the issue I had in two seconds! He was happy to just help me change what I needed on my account and didn't pressure me at all in the sales aspect. I asked if there were any promotions on my account and he ended up getting me the best deal I've ever gotten at Verizon! I was able to get the new iPhone 13 for such a great deal and Tialiyah was the one to find the deal I could get! She was so sweet and helpful and even showed me cases that weren't displayed. I've been a Verizon customer for more than 15 years so I have experienced all different sorts of service from them all in person or via chat, via email, via text and via phone. I went into this store because one near me closed permanently. This one, very different feel to it. The first impression was like, wait, did I just walk into an Apple store?? There are two big wooden tables where you receive your service. All the staff carry these ipad looking device and you are signed up to wait for your turn. Once they call your name, you are being served in the hands of the working staff. Because I walked in during day time when it wasn't so busy, I was greeted by this male staff, who said wasn't busy to help me. He was the one who initiate and offered the help. But the more and more I spoke to him, I got a feeling that I was not welcomed. He wasn't making any eye contact with me when I or he was talking, so I wasn't so sure if he was listening. I had to make sure he wAs not in any bad mood. I also questioned if he was sleepy bc he looked down most of the time. Overall, I didn't think he was explaining thoroughly on what he was doing. But I let him do everything he could do to check on my phone. In the end, the problem was not resolved. But that wasn't his fault. But still, as a customer, I've had much better experience over everything else than in person. If you can avoid talking to someone in person at the store, I'd recommend the other methods first. read more

I recently sent a letter to Consumerist.com about Verizon and thought that it would make a pretty good review of specific VZW locations as well. Here 'tis: I'm on my father's cell family plan because it's cheaper for all of us to have the one plan even though I live in NYC and my parents live in Ohio. We've had Verizon Wireless for two years and recently were faced with the decision to either renew or find other service. Because he couldn't find a carrier that had the coverage, phones, or price he wanted, my dad decided to sign up with Verizon again. Since it's a renew, we're all eligible for new phones at the 2 year contract discount. When I went to upgrade to the phone I wanted, we ran into problems. I wanted a smartphone that was listed on the website as $199.99 with a $100 online rebate. My dad tried to buy the phone in the store since it was listed as being $99 there, too, but one Verizon rep told him that we had to buy an Unlimited data package with it - which I didn't want - another rep said we didn't have to buy that package but it would be easier for me to buy the phone in a store in NYC. When I went into Verizon stores here, I got craziness. Each rep literally told me a different thing. From 'Yes, we have the phone in the store but the primary account holder has to be here to buy it.' to 'No, no one has that phone in the store because it's discontinued.' Some reps at the Brooklyn/Atlantic Terminal store told me that they could order the phone for me, but two of the three reps who told me that gave me different stories on price. 'You can get it for $99 but only with an Unlimited Data Package' and 'I can order it for you, but you have to pay full retail of $299.' I'm an avid Consumerist reader, so I am well aware of what Verizon reps can and cannot do. I went in armed and they STILL came with the bullpucky. At the store on 81st and Broadway a rep and a manager both told me that they could not give me the online discount/rebate in the store. That 'Customer Service' doesn't allow them to discount phones (lie). The rep in the Verizon area inside the Circuit City down the street was even more hilarious. He said they had the phone in stock. I asked for him to give me the online discount and he said he 'couldn't'. When I said, "That's a lie, I know you can," he said something like: 'It's not a lie, it's just in the way I say it to you.' WTF? Then later he said, "I could discount any of these phones down to zero if I wanted to, but I won't do it for you or him or her or anyone." I told him not to try and convince me he was full of integrity, he did work for Verizon, after all. Finally, a rep in the store on 42nd and 6th told me that it was indeed true, no store had those phones anymore (though they have them on display...) and really the best way to get it was to go online or call customer service and order. That did not end my troubles. After some fun and games where the website was wrong and calling customer service did nothing but piss me off more, I almost gave up. Completely at the end of my rope, I went to Consumerist and found a list of Verizon Executive's phone numbers. I called one, got an assistant who sympathized with me, who then put me in touch with Executive Customer Service (yes, such things exist). Someone from ECS called me the next day, apologized, was really nice, and FedExed me my phone for the $99.99 is was supposed to cost. I had to go through all of that just to get one lousy phone. The moral of the story is: stay away from Verizon if you can. Also: don't believe the salespeople when they tell you they can't do aomething. Do your research, find out all you can about reps and their selling practices (Consumerist is a good place to start) and don't let them con you. And don't go to this particular location, they suck. read more

Customer service is way too "in your face" when you first walk in and then they ignore you for the following few hours that you wait there. There always seem to be a handful of employees just kind of hanging around while there are tons of people waiting in line. Really horrible service. After this experience I am tempted to switch carriers since I have never been lucky with any Verizon shops. I have been to this store numerous times since it is a stone-throw away from my apartment and have never witnessed anyone in the store seem satisfied with their service. By far the rudest customer service I have ever encountered in my life! It was shocking. On Friday (the day the new iPhone came out-I know, not the best day to go to a cell phone place but anyway...) the bf & I needed to go to Verizon because the battery life on his phone, which he still has warranty on it, was not charging properly. So we just needed to go to a store to get a new battery. Simple, right? Well, as soon as we try to get into the store (we are still on the sidewalk btw) we are stopped by some guy who thinks he's a bouncer at a night club. And by stopped, this guys literally put his hand up in a stop form & did not allow us to just walk into the store. We actually bumped into some other guy that was in front of us trying to get in too. It was ridiculous! This guy was like Gandalf being all "You shall not pass". Wth?! That's NO way to treat your customers. Not only was he rude but he was mean & nasty. I understand there was a line earlier that day because of the new iPhone but #1 I was not there for the new iPhone, #2 There was no line any more & #3 While the store looked busy it was not over crowded for them to have some sort of "control" like that. I just needed to get a new battery! Honestly, this is a store not a friggen night club. To have a guy act like your regular, run of the mill thug who fancies himself "security" is terrible. I went there to return something, signed in, then went to Starbucks, returned ten minutes later and after doing the return the guy told me he would be e-mailing me my receipt so that was fine. As a new comer in the US, I wanted to open a postpaid line with Verizon. This store managed to make me open one with... AT&T ! They made me come three times with new papers to bring every time even though I was willing to pay a deposit. On the last day, I had to wait ONE full hour while they were checking with their credit department before I was told that the fax machine was down and they couldn't send my documents. The manager told me to go fax them myself and come back. That was a step too far and I brought my business to AT&T. I know AT&T get bad reviews too but they opened my iphone line in 15 min top and even waived the activation fees. That Verizon store sucks big time. I don't care is the staff is underpaid or undertrained they were just rude and grossly incompetent. read more

So we decided to go to the store to combine cell phone plans after being together almost 5 years. It was Sunday afternoon and pretty busy. We signed in with the woman in the front and noticed we were number 5 on the list. Okay, doesn't sound bad. It was bad. It took at 30 minutes to be called with only 4 people in front of us. What do you do with that time? I played some games on the I Pad but got bored. So we just stood there. Then when our name came up on number 1, we still waited 10 minutes to actually be helped (so number 1 doesn't mean you're being helped yet). Our actual associate, Dalisa, was helpful and friendly. She was also honest. I am very skeptical of changes and she eased me into it (I was changing from ATT and upgrading my I phone). She made sure to answer my questions patiently and nicely. That helped my transition. The process itself was super slow. OMG slow. She calculated everything for us, rang us up, etc but then the transferring of my contacts and my husband's transfer of info took like 15 minutes. I had actually put my hat on already thinking we were ready to go. I don't think it was her fault, I just think it's the process. I liked her so we'll say it wasn't her fault. But the entire thing was painfully slow. She tried to get us to buy covers for our phones but then she had to help ring up another customer which then gave me the opportunity to look on Amazon for the same cover. The same cover was more than $10 cheaper. Even with our 25% discount for accessories (which I'm not really sure why we were getting), it was way cheaper. Done and done. No cases for us. Also why did she have to ring up two other customers while helping us? There were plenty of other associates in the store who weren't helping people. That was super annoying. Also they didn't have a black Samsung Galaxy S3 in stock. Annoying. So my hubby settled with white. But really? No black? Anyway we left after at least 1.5 hours. But I got my new I phone and that makes me happy. Maybe in the future I'll listen to my husband and we'll do everything online. read more

Note..this is a review of the STORE...not Verizon as a service... Just wanna say that this branch has a great staff & team, the minute you walk in the door- the staff is quick to get you signed in for the appropriate representative. I know as New Yorker's we're always in a rush (God knows why..) and you CANNOT control the people ahead of you asking inane questions (this creating the sometimes longer waits) but once you get to the front of the line, they will answer every on of your questions as well. If your phone is functional...a game of Solitaire will kill time beautifully. ;) They were helpful in replacing my Razrs, Treos, Storms, and now help with the Thunderbolt...A+ staff!
