Verns is the most amazing place I have ever eaten breakfast!!! Everything is delicious and the service is so on point and the people are super friendly. The cinnamon rolls are seriously life changing and there is not a single item on the menu that would let you down no matter what your taste. I love bringing people here that haven't been before because then they are HOOKED! Also it's cool that it is more than just a restaurant and also located in a beautiful area that I hope never gets built up (knock on wood). We always used to go here for breakfast, The food is amazing I will give them that. However the service is so horrible!! We tried to go there Sunday and had a group of 7 people. We had waiting to be seated with hardly any acknowledgment, I asked if we were going to be helped because I saw an 8 top empty and plenty of other tables empty. We were asked to take our money elsewhere because I asked if we were going to get sat. Well because of that one bad attitude employee we will never spend another dime at that place, the other 5 people with us expressed the same. Ate at Vern's again this morning! We go grab an excellent, big, fresh breakfast (with yummy, spicy Bloody Mary's!) at least one Sunday a month and we head over for lunch on the deck or a home style dinner fairly often too. The renovation that Nick and Val did a few years ago really improved the atmosphere and comfort and the menu has expanded to have choices for everyone! read more

We always get the cinnamon role. It's the best I've ever had (although the Glen Haven General Store is right up there!). It's so fresh and soft and oozing with cinnamon sugar and a dollop of butter. . They're so big, we usually split one with a cup of coffee. Absolutley, delicious! My husband and I had dinner last night for Valentine's Day since they had been advertising their specials on their outdoor sign for several weeks. We were VERY disappointed that they had not planned ahead/estimated for enough of their advertised special dinners. The restaurant opened at 4:00 p.m. on Valentine's Day and we arrived about 6:10 p.m. We learned that both of the specials were already sold out by then!! We could choose to have the Ribeye steak and shrimp in their place. The steak was good but only 3 grilled shrimp per plate?? Not acceptable for the price and totally poor planning on their part. Shame on them! Perhaps Vern's you could offer the lobster mac and cheese again so those of us who came specifically to have it could actually have some. read more

I've been going to Vern's Place since before it burned down in 1990 and was rebuilt. For me, Vern's has two two outstanding thing on their menu. One is their cinnamon rolls and the other is this HUGE pancake. Both have been on the menu for...I don't know how long. My favorite was the pancake (don't even think about ordering two!). I believe the pancake batter must have had yellow cake mix in it. Sure was good! I didn't even use syrup!...it was That good! Well, long story short, the big pancake has been taken off the menu and now the little ones they serve don't taste the same. So if you're a "pancake connoisseur", as I am, don't even bother. Seems now that Vern's is just serving the regular pancakes you can easily make at home for a tenth the cost its just not worth the trip for me. read more

Vern's did a major revamp a couple of years ago, and it really improved this place! I prefer their breakfast to their lunch/dinner, but this is a convenient place that is cheap and usually has no wait. I recommend the chicken fried steak and chorizo skillet for breakfast. I have been here 3 times now. All 3 times the waitresses were unhelpful and unfriendly and they were always out of what I wanted to order. Food was subpar. Fries are soggy and the last time I came here it was between the hours of 2 and 4 which meant I could only order a sandwich or burger. It's a shame because I heard good things about this place. The waitresses said no to me more times than yes...there is a way to say you are out of something without sounding rude. I suggest you teach your waitresses how to do that. I have gone to Vern's for many years while living in this area. For the last few years I have lived in the Denver area. Being in the area today I had the opportunity to visit Vern's for breakfast this morning. The inside of the restaurant has been updated and the food remains very good. The only reason I am rating Vern's with only 2 stars is because of the wait staff. Once we walked into the place the waitress was prompt taking our order but then she just completely disappeared. I do mean completely disappeared. Someone else brought the food and we had to ask twice just to get a refill on coffee. Once the coffee was refilled by another waitress the bill was just tossed onto our table without a word from another. Omelet sly different waitress. While checking out we mentioned what happened and the Cashier mouthed the word sorry but we knew full well it was not genuine. We were really looking forward to coming to Vern's but now they have lost 2 customers for life. read more

The place was so cold inside that I couldn't concentrate on how bad the food was. I had a salad that obviously came out of a bag, including the "grilled chicken". What a disappointment Vern's has become. We had breakfast there at least two times per Month and it was the first place we took out of town guest. We stopped going over a year ago and decided to try them out again this week. First of all the place had flies buzzing all around you, I felt like I was in the barn. If it's that bad where the customers are, I can't imagine what it's like in the kitchen. The pancakes were stiff and cold, the chicken fried steak (which use to be my favorite) was tough as if it just came out of the microwave. My eggs were ok, but my little boy's scrambled eggs were like rubber. It was just a very sad breakfast, and unfortunately it may be another year before we try them again. Having had decent breakfasts in the past at Vern's Place, I was extremely disappointed with the lunch I had today. I ordered the Turkey Avocado Sandwich and it was disgusting! The sourdough bread was dry and tasteless. The turkey was thin and slimy. The avocado was almost non-existent. The fries that came with the sandwich were edible. On the way up to Bellevue we stopped by Vern's Grocery, Liquor, Tackle Shop, Restaurant, and Gifts. We didn't eat here but had a drink before heading up the mountain. We sat on a shaded patio in a nice setting. A bee or two bothered us, but we were in an outdoor rural area and expected as much. People seemed to enjoy their large portions of delicious looking food. This place was recommended to me (a newcomer to NoCo) so Hubby and I drove up a few miles from FC with anticipation to sample their breakfast menu. Compared to every breakfast I've eaten in the past ten years, this was not just "nothin' special" --it was beneath "plain". The Huevos Rancheros were smothered in sauce, and the "heat" in the chiles masked the entire dish. (Perhaps the option of mild, medium, or hot was printed, but the waitress didn't ask our preference either.) Also included were standard hash browns --probably from a bag of basic Sysco frozen taters, a far cry from hand-cut seasoned pan fries. The price was excessive (9.75) for a 3.99 value, with no toast besides! It's a farmer/hunter type of place with decor of Dead Heads in abundance. City types looking for a creative menu that doesn't rely on unhealthy calories, starch, carbs, sauces, and shredded cheese should stick to worthier restaurants in Ft. Collins. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would!!! I really hate to complain because I have worked in the service industry for over 7 years, but this was just over the top and I am actually taking time out of my day to write this review. We showed up on a Sunday, so immediately we knew we would be waiting for a while. We decided to take an inside table because we had already been waiting 45 min and our stomachs couldn't handle another minute. The server was great at first; she took our drink order and brought them in a timely manner and then we ordered. We all ordered something breakfast-ish like eggs or a breakfast burrito so we did not think it would take almost an hour for them to have our food ready. 45 min go by from when we ordered and still nothing, the waitress didn't even come over to say "hey the wait is going to be a little bit since we are super busy" so we assumed maybe she forgot to place it ( it happens we've all been there). But no about 10-15 min later here comes our food, which was no longer hot it was maybe lukewarm and my boyfriend ordered a skillet which is supposed to be HOT!! We scarf down our meal before she even came back to say how is it but she was very quick to bring the bill to the table. I did not even see a manager to talk to so here I am writing a review. I would not waste my time waiting here again if I wanted to wait for a good breakfast you can go to snooze. read more

HORRIBLE TREATMENT OF CUSTOMER KIDS!!! My daughter and her friends went to Vern's after school today. When they got their ticket and gathered up their money, they found they were about $1.60 short. They tried to do the responsible thing and tell Vern's they were short and would come back with the balance when their ride got there. They made the girls give them their names and phone numbers and told them if the were not back by 9:00 with the money and a 15% tip they would call the police. REALLY!! These are 11 year old girls! I would have given them my credit card to pay for the balance and tip if given the chance. Thankfully someone was able to come in and pay the balance-- and tell them they can forget the tip! Not only will there be no tip-- but never again any business from our family or friends! Horrible way to treat customers-- of any age!! read more

My Girlfriend (Pastry Chef) at the time was a cook along with her brother back in the early 90's. Kendy and Deken were the best cooks around. Kendy would always bring me food home at night. The Krout burgers were always my favorites. I was a strict vegetarian until she said try this. I was hooked back on meat! She always brought me home choice cuts after that. We ate for years at Vern's place but stopped. The atmosphere is rustic and clientele make it homey. The original owners had a good menu at a fair price, but the younger family members who took it over have raised the prices and serve packet (out of a box) food. I am sorry but to pay $14.95 for and out of the box chicken fried steak with canned green beans, fake potatoes and packet gravy is nuts. They use to have a prime rib special for two at $19.95 - but this has probably gone up. This dinner was another disappointment. This place should be of the quality you see on "Drive-in, Diners, and Dives" but except for the chile nothing is original. Another exception is the cinnamon rolls. They're great if you can get one that is fresh. I'm sorry to say but I think the locals who support it don't know any better. read more
