I recently visited with a friend and treated her to breakfast. Our bill was approximately $44. After returning to our table, I realized that I was missing nearly $80 in cash. While part of that amount was the tip I had intentionally left, it was immediately clear that two avocado toasts and one coffee could not possibly have cost that much. I returned to the counter and politely asked whether there was a camera pointed at the register that could help clarify what had happened. I wasn't demanding anything - I simply wanted to understand the situation, since I knew how much cash I had brought with me. The cashier insisted that the change she had given me was correct. I told her that if she was certain, I would not argue further. However, what happened next was incredibly disappointing. Instead of handling the situation professionally, she walked away and began discussing it loudly with managers while I was standing nearby. I felt embarrassed, uncomfortable, and publicly humiliated, as though I was being portrayed as someone trying to cause a problem. Eventually, I couldn't tolerate the situation any longer and returned to my table outside. What shocked me most was the complete lack of care from the management team. Several managers were aware of what had happened, yet not a single person approached me. No one asked what had occurred, no one attempted to understand the situation, and no one made any effort to resolve it or even offer a simple apology for the discomfort I had experienced. What truly amazes me is the level of indifference. Regardless of the circumstances, when a guest leaves upset and humiliated, management should step in, listen, and try to make things right. Instead, it felt as though everyone was simply relieved that I had walked away and the issue had disappeared. I consider nearly $80 to be an absurd amount to pay for two avocado toasts and a coffee, but what bothered me far more than the money was the way I was treated. I can definitely see why people like to do work/study here! I was tempted to try their seasonal fall/halloween drinks, but opted for their kombucha on tap since I was still full from lunch. This is a good coffee shop! Their coffee is nicely balance, not too strong...just right! The service is a little off. I was next in-line after the employee behind the register noticed me and continued with her personal conversation with her friend. It wasn't until more customers arrived that she realized I was still there waiting. Aside from the bad customer service, the food was really good and so was the coffee! They have parking outside, but it's always full. Street parking is available too! The ambiance is great with many people sitting and enjoying their food. Overall not a bad place to eat! Service and drink wise, things were great. The cashier was friendly but the barista was an absolute sweetheart and checked if my drink was good before I left the counter and offered to remake it if it wasn't up to par. I ordered the hot mocha and it wasn't too sweet and balanced with chocolate. I do wish it was hotter but they were busy and didn't want her to get held up just to remake my drink because of that. It was very clean inside, there were many places for people to sit inside and a few small tables outside as well. Most people were sitting alone and had their laptops out. Went there early I wanted to catch in space to sit. Luckily I got a space by the door inside towards the outside. They have a decent outside area but it looks really small and I think it's by the parking lot in the back. The inside is very inviting and spacious with an open concept. I love that you can see them make your coffee and How neat they keep the area overall. The study area is plenty but you'll be sitting side-by-side if the place gets full. They have another seating area by the mirror so you'll be looking at yourself a lot as well as people behind you which is actually a great eye full! I think it's their thing with mirrors because the verve in West Hollywood has same concept but much more pillows and throws than this place. I got the Americano with four shots. The barista was very unhappy to be there and was just so curt & Unfriendly. I thought maybe he skipped his coffee this morning or maybe it just didn't have any more effect. It was my second time coming here but my first time with a sour face in the morning. Thank goodness there were others to buffer the mood. Verve is a really nice spot! I stopped by over the weekend and got a cup of their seasonal Wilder blend. It was flavorful, but pretty lukewarm. I felt bad because it was busy but the barista was kind enough to offer me a fresh cup. She poured it from the dispenser and agreed with me that the entire batch was no longer hot and opened up a new pot. Once I got my hot coffee, I really enjoyed it. This is ignoring the fact that it was latte prices for drip coffee ($4.50)... bit steep if you ask me. The vibes in the coffee shop were pretty great, but I've seen this place on many lists for "best coffee shops to work in" which meant that there were so many laptops out and several people hovering for a place to sit. Guess we should keep gatekeeping it? It's a bummer when you just want to sit and enjoy your coffee but no one's moving for 15+ minutes, which is how long I waited. read more
