Everyone was super nice and accommodating when we came. I brought my little Peanut in for sharp pain concerns and Dr. Spencer was very thorough and patient with our questions. She was prescribed some pain meds and said it was nothing life threatening but could be disk/nerve related. This put as at ease for the night until we were able to see our regular vet who said the same thing and pointed us to a neurologist. Big additional shout outs to vet tech Stella and Ryan for being so sweet to her while they triaged her and gave her the shots! Can't thank the team enough for their quick service and excellent bedside manner. From us calling in to leaving the clinic, we felt very well taken care of. We didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes before the dr spoke to us on the phone to assess the emergency of the situation and tell us to bring our cat in. When we got in, we were greeted by the receptionist who quickly took us in and the vet team was so quick to respond to our situation. The dr we spoke to on the phone (Dr Lin) came over to further assess him and we were given very clear explanations of what was going on and how it should be treated. We felt like our cat was in great hands from the moment we stepped in the clinic. The whole vet team was so accommodating and kind and made a stressful situation less scary. I wanted to write a review of VEG because I was so impressed at their caring attitude. I recently helped a friend bring in a stray/colony cat that needed to be euthanized. The main reason for going to VEG was to keep the stress for the cat as low as possible. And VEG did great at that. We were given a room right away. The 'mostly feral' cat still had some feistiness to her, but they very smoothly gave her a low sedative to help the rest of the process. We were with the cat the whole time. I've been at other locations where they take the cat into another room to put in the IV. And sure, it's never a fun thing to see your cat squirm getting an IV, I still think it's nice to be there the whole time. They also had a light switch/door bell concept so you could take whatever time you needed before the 'final step' and then just hit the switch to tell them when you were ready. All in all, a 'pleasant, low drama' experience in an unpleasant situation. I also appreciated that they gave us some lower-cost options for cremation and provided us with a box to take her with us. read more

This was the worst experience I have had at a Vet clinic. I will never go back and I will not recommend them ever. If I could give them a 0, I would. I know they have a lot of great reviews, and I'm hopeful that I just caught them on an awful day and no one experiences what I did with my dog. My animal savvy friend highly recommended this facility and care team to me following a dog fight, so I took my dog over to the clinic by 7:15am. We were taken back to a room, did intake, and they took her vitals. We were told the vet would come in within an hour-and hour and a half. We waited an hour an a half, still had not seen the vet, but the techs came in and gave her hydromorphone and told me the vet would be in soon. **A vet had never seen my dog prior to the opioid injection and per my regular vet, it is illegal for a controlled substance to be administered without a DVM examination. I also know there are strict opioid handling laws limited to DVM, RVT, and VACSP holders. By 11:15- four hours after arriving, I poked my head out of the room to see if they knew when a vet would come by. My dogs leg swelling was worsening, the wounds were starting to ooze and drip, and she was distressed. I was told that there were critical care cases ahead of us and it would be another 2 hours at least. I asked to leave, and they agreed after clearing it with the vet, "You're free to leave if your schedule does not work with ours. You can leave once you pay your bill" telling me they would "discount" my bill of the exam fee and only charge me for the drugs. *Discount was not the right word for them to use because I never received a vet exam service for my dog. [I was able to take my dog to my regular vet immediately after leaving who found pocketing around 2 of the wounds while cleaning and had to put 10 stitches in. She was immediately started on antibiotics and anti inflammatory and pain.] *The 2 techs at VEG that actually paid us a little attention were kind. They seemed young without a lot of experience. One even seemed embarrassed and was apologetic when I was asking to leave. *I could not tell you who the vet(s) are if you lined all of the staff up- I never even met the vet. *My dog was given a controlled substance by a tech without an exam from a DVM. *My dog was never offered water or any comforts by the staff. *The room we were in was extremely warm, which was missed for the first 2+ hours of us being there. *Other staff members around the facility (I opened the door to the room because it was so hot) were rude and dismissive. *AND! I picked a flea off of my dog while we were there. I have never seen a flea on her or in my home. It came from their clinic. To say I am extremely disappointed is an understatement. I work in healthcare and I've been in the horse industry my entire life. I understand how emergency rooms need to triage. I understand animal care and vet systems. I respect that emergent cases took priority, because I'd expect the same for my dog. That being said, her conditioned worsened while we were there; I even said something, and we were completely dismissed by the vet who never even bothered to give us time. Besides the 2 nice techs, I felt (for myself and my dog) extremely unwelcome, uncared for, and disrespected. The staff should have been communicating with me about wait times and should have been honest about their ability or time constraints to treat wounds they felt were inconsequential and not critical enough for their attention. They should have been checking on my dogs status regularly while we were waiting for them to give her the care we went to them for. Never again. read more

So disappointed with this place. When they first opened they acted like they cared about your pet instead of money .They let us slide when we didn't have enough money. But that didn't last long I was informed that they let my dog get some services for free but they can't just give him free services I need to pay. I always paid at the least 200.00 but the truth comes out and she said they can't help him out no more. I need to pay and it goes to show they don't care about animals they send them home with pain or whatever they came in for unless you can pay a fortune. I could never turn a sick or hurt animal away if I could help them but I am not a vet it's not any different then any other business it's not about the care or helping animals it's all about the money. read more

Wow. Just got off the phone at 4am. Spoke to Dr. Evera. She patently spoke to me for quite some time regarding my dog. He woke up dry-heaving in the middle of the night and I wanted to be sure it wasn't a medical emergency. It lasted about 10 minutes and after a bit of water he settled back in comfortably. The doctor told me some possible causes, serious signs of distress, to monitor him and bring him in if it happens again. From the time we arrived, everyone was so kind and attentive. Upon entering, I looked to the right and saw those big doors open and they said "come on in!" it was almost like we were at the Pearly Gates.Angels I tell you. We were so worried about Jax and they were so genuinely compassionate and just sweet about everything. We could be right there with Jax for the diagnostic stuff. We were able to comfort him as much as was possible in his ailing state. We got answers to questions about the root of Jax's illness quite literally as the Doctor was observing them and that expedience is what allowed us to make decisions most quickly / in the best interest of Jax. All staff from the people at the front desk to the nurses to the man Doc herself, they all worked seamlessly, like a well-oiled machine. Great teamwork with stellar communication. After we decided that Jax' quality of life was irreparable, Dr Lee and staff gave us time to be alone with him in a private, super comfy atmosphere that was so peaceful. They gently checked on us to see if we needed water or anything at all. What was actually the worst day of our lives, the awesome folks at VEG made it as painless as possible for us to say goodbye to our best friend of 12 years, Jax. They were game changers whose first focus truly is in the comfort and what is best for our furbabies / their patients. read more

We were faced with a medical emergency for our 8 month old kitten and she needed surgery. The amazing staff and Dr. Falk Young were beyond helpful and understanding. They worked with us to ensure that we could get our kitten the help she needed without feeling an added worry about the financial burden it would bring. The facilities are so open and inviting. Incredible staff!! Especially thank you to Stella and the doctor who worked at night (not sure what her name is). They were so helpful and attentive to our puppy with a chocolate emergency. They took him in to see right away. When we told them we don't have a lot of money but we really needed their help they said to not stress about money but focus on making our pup feel better. They made sure to put him in separate room because he didn't have all the vaccines yet. They made him throw up, checked up on him, offered many different payment options for those who don't have a lot of money to pay for pets treatment. They even had him hospitalized to make sure he's doing okay. They were absolutely amazing, so professional and helpful. They really care about your pet and their well being. The greatest experience, I came in with my pregnant dog lexy. Unfortunately I was worried she may need a c-section due to her not delivering puppies after pushing for a couple hours. The staff was super friendly and cleared any doubts & made myself & my dog comfortable. There was also other pets* being cared for & you can just tell they care about the care of them all. It is so rare to find a place with such amazing reviews. If you are skeptical, please put your fears aside. This place is amazing. I honestly cannot say enough good things about VEG San Jose. Working with animals during an emergency requires a very high level of experience, expertise, coordination and most importantly sympathy. I can confidently say VEG has all of these. They literally saved my dog's life and by the looks of it, many other people's pets. This is a no nonsense hospital. Yes it is expensive, it is emergency care. But you are paying for the best in the business. My dog needed an emergency procedure to pull a foreign body out of his stomach and the team here at VEG worked tirelessly for 7 hours making sure not only we were taken care of, but everyone else was too. There's no doubt they are busy but they make it work! Staff work quickly and effectively. They allow owners to see the procedures and to ask questions. They're sympathetic to how stressful situations like this can be and never made us feel like a burden. I'm so so grateful for them and how they handled my dog. I called VEG because our pet was in distress and my regular vet had no openings available. I was speaking to one of their vets within 30 seconds of calling. I was advised to bring in my pet. Once I arrived, there was no wait. I was escorted in to the large, well-equipped clinic and immediately interviewed about my pet's problem. They contacted my regular vet's office and had the medical record faxed over, so they knew my pet's medical history. Everyone was so caring and focused on me and my pet. I was able to stay with my pet throughout the entire exam. All of the options were explained to me, so that I was able to make an educated decision. Because my pet's condition was dire, he had to stay overnight. The vet said I could stay with my pet overnight (I declined) or visit any time, 24/7. There is a vet and nurses on site checking the animals 24/7. The overnight doctor called several times to let me know how my pet was doing. I am so very glad that we finally have a competent, caring and professional emergency vet clinic on our side of town. The initial exam was the same price as other vet clinics in the area. They accept walk-in appointments as well as scheduled appointments. I simply cannot say how impressed I am with this vet clinic. It's the best clinic I've experienced in 6 decades of taking my animals to a vet. read more
