Fast, transparent, well priced and compassionate was my take away from my visit to VEG. I've had pets majority of my life and I know that some of us are willing to sell and organ for them. I myself have gotten in debt and paid crazy amounts for emergency services. I wouldn't say their prices are cheap BUT they are beyond reasonable. The open concept was mind blowing to me, it was amazing to see them work in real time, literally right in-front of every other patient and human. While my anxiety was through the roof at first, I realized that at some point I was actually calmer because I could see what was happening as opposed to sitting outside away from my fur baby wondering how they were doing and being treated. I can not thank Dr. Boyle and the staff at VEG enough for helping my little girl. They were extremely caring and respectful. Dr.Boyle explained what they were doing all while taking care of others that had arrived. They kept checking on her while trying to get her temperature, and blood pressure up to where they could give her a transfusion. They spent time to call everywhere they could to find cat blood for her. When she quickly went into distress they were immediately there to try and save her. They did everything they could. Unfortunately she didn't make it. They were so sweet and caring giving me time to say good bye and arranging for her to be taken care of. Other reviews have mentioned money and costs. Last night after giving my bird child (cockatiel) medication prescribed by his avian vet. He went into shock, he was struggling to breathe and his eyes kept were closing. I thought I was going to lose him. I googled 24 vet and found this place. I called and the doctor answered which was so reassuring to hear it was the doctor. I explain to doctor the situation and I rushed right over. When I arrived they took my bird in right away. They placed us in a room since my bird is able to fly. The doctor and the clinicians helping us were so calming and truly caring. My baby was placed in an incubator with a line of oxygen. They also used a device that suctioned fluid coming out of his nostrils. They continually checked in on us and offered me something to drink or a snack while I waited as we were there for a few hours. I was by my birds side the entire time which made me and my bird look feel extremely comfortable. I am happy to announce my little guy pushed through and is back home. I am extremely grateful for finding this place and for the amazing care we received. Thank you all so much! read more

After hours visit to VEG in San Jose when our boxer ate a corn cob. Google was clear that waiting would not be the strategy. Super pleased with VEG, facilities, price, and staff. They were able to act quickly, were kind and funny, and competent. Modern, everything is visible and transparent. Check-in, estimate approval, payment - everything streamlined and efficient. I LOVE this place. I was absolutely blown away by the way the place is setup and the amazing staff, especially the guy at the front desk (didn't get his name)... they really deserve all the 5 star reviews. Noticed my cat was looking quite sick around 8PM, found them by google search (I was looking for an alternative to Sage and ARCHvet... was told they opened 8 months ago), they told me I could bring her in anytime (they're open 24/7). The facility is unlike anything I've ever seen in an emergency animal hospital. They're really setup for emergency triage. They have one big open room and you can see everything that's going on, which is amazing, and I was able to stay with my cat the entire time, They don't take animals to the back room to be treated while you're worried sick in a waiting room. I was able to stay with her for as long as I wanted. They even have beds there if you want to stay overnight with your pet. They offered me drinks and snacks throughout the night. The vet recommended that she stays for 24 hours for observation and I was able to visit her anytime I wanted. They don't appear to have any specialists onsite but they were able to get opinions from the specialists within an hour or so. My one complaint is the cost... This is not just for this hospital but for all vet/hospital fees in the bay area. I was charged over $6k for blood and urine tests/analysis, xray, meds and 24 hr stay. Fortunately I have pet insurance (that costs more than my own medical premium) but for people without insurance or on a tight budget, the cost of emergency vet care is really prohibitive. Even non-emergency vet services are too high, in my opinion. I recently paid a local vet $3k for enema and $4500 for an animal dentist... crazy expensive. read more

Wonderful!! The last place that we wanted to spend our 3-day Memorial weekend is at an Emergency vet, but that is where we and our dog, Rosy found ourself. She was not eating and lethargic for the prior couple days. Immediately upon arrival we were greeted and they ran several tests and Xray. She was diagnosed with IMHA which is a serious and potentially life threatening auto immune disease that causes a pets immune system to attack its own red blood cells. Talk about nervous, worried, anxiety. Over the course of the 3 days we were there, Rosy had to have 2 blood tranfusions, and we were prepared for a 3rd as her prognosis was very guarded. We got to be with Rosy the entire time! They have a little room where we got to be with her and spent both nights there. That in itself eased us as the thought of her being in a kennel and not being able to see her was horrible. THe kennels they do have you can sit right next to the whole time as well! The whole place is clean and well organized, like a well oiled machine Its so open and you can see the entire staff and the pets that are brought in. It never sounds loud and crazy I dont know how they all keep their cool with all that, but they do. Every Veterinarian that treated Rosy, every vet tech, every assistant were just top notch , they kept me informed often, were compassionate and just great attitudes. When we got to leave with Rosy they all hugged her and clapped. ( wish I got a picture) Shouts out to Dr, Lee(s) ( Ithink there are 2 Dr. lees that we saw), Dr, Spencer, Shelby, Caleb, Hailey, Cintia(probably spelling wrong) Salina, Ryan, Cindy, Jen ( great sense of humor....,we needed it!) If I forgot anyone I am deeply sorry, there were a few that were checking on Rosy in the middle of the night and I was half asleep and didnt get names. We got released on Monday and still guarded, lots of precription pills and we have to follow up with our regular vet every couple days for blood test. Happy to say after being home 4 days her blood count is holding steady .. hopefully will go up. SHe is interested in food again, and while tired seems to flashes of her old self. I am so grateful for the team at VEG. I called 4 different local vets and was turned away. I didn't know about VEG because it is fairly new to the area, but they were so welcoming and kind from the moment they picked up the phone. I usually go to SAGE for emergencies, but I will now go to VEG. I was able to stay with Willow the entire time. This was extremely reassuring to myself and Willow. I was able to give her cuddles between treatment. The intake tech/nurses were so welcoming, calm, and kind. Dr.Chapman was the attending doctor and she was very thorough and reassuring. I will recommend VEG to all of my dog park friends for future emergencies if the care remains this amazing. Thank you VEG so much for taking great care of my furbaby. Review for VEG Veterinary Emergency Group We recently needed emergency care for our 16-year-old cat who was in distress after hours when her regular veterinarian could not be reached. We first put in a phone call with Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) and discussed the symptoms with a doctor who advised we bring her in immediately. As we arrived, we were quickly met by a team of 6 who whisked her into a large room with several other exam tables for other animals. Within 60 seconds (or less) they had our cat hooked up to an IV, on a heart monitor, and provided her with oxygen as they triaged her condition and did imaging. The attending doctor was the same person we had spoken with on the phone and remembered the details of our conversation. Unfortunately, our cat was in kidney failure and had had a stroke. The doctor was very kind and compassionate regarding our options, and answered every question ahead of our decision for next steps. We were treated with reassurance and kindness. In another recent event, we brought in a juvenile opossum that one of our dogs brought into our home. The critter didn't look well. Being that this was after hours, we knew the Wildlife Center would be closed. VEG happens to do the intake for the Center after hours. Again, we were met swiftly and the intake worker was thrilled to see an opossum. It will be brought to the Center and then rehabbed and returned to its home area. We give VEG our highest recommendation for their amazing emergency work, professionalism, skill, compassion, and fairness in billing. read more

We brought our cat in for an emergency and we're blown away by the care and service we received. They are not only taking care of the pets but also the humans. For example, when we pulled up, the nurse actually waiting for us outside the door rushed us into the ER. I can't even express how grateful I am for VEG. My one year old kitty was diagnosed with a urinary blockage after going from being completely fine to in really rough shape in less than 24 hours. We first took him to another vet who quoted us $12-14k just to unblock him without keeping him under supervision afterwards (which is not something we just couldn't afford as much as we wanted to save him). This vet sent him on his way without any pain medication and didn't communicate to us how bad his potassium levels and kidney functions were at that time. A few hours later, we took our kitty in to VEG and they immediately took him in and started working to get him stabilized. We were allowed to stay by his side during the entire process and they managed to get him unblocked a couple of hours later for half of what we were quoted by the other vet. They kept our kitty for 48 hours to make sure that his kidney function and urine color improved before removing the catheter. We were allowed to come in and visit at any time and we always felt welcomed and informed. We are so incredibly appreciative of the whole staff at this location; without them, we wouldn't have our cat with us right now. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had a vet clinic. I will never go back and give them my business nor would I ever recommend them ever. If I could leave a 0-star rating, I would. I took my dog to the ER at VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) San Jose CA location, after she was bitten by another dog, resulting in an open wound. Despite the urgency, we waited almost 2 hours for my dog to receive any care. When she finally got her stitches, they sent her home without even cleaning the blood off her leg. A band-aid wasn't even applied to the open stitches! Worst of all the stitches still had sand and dirt on them! Low and behold the wound got infected! Our second visit to check on discharge on the wound was even worse. We waited another two hours just to get an estimate! The doctors were incredibly unprofessional, claiming that an open wound was "stable" while my pet was clearly in pain with discharge seeping out. Their dismissive attitude and lack of proper care were shocking and unacceptable. Anytime I would bring up any questions regarding my pet the doctors would quickly cut me off and was very rude about the situation. The doctors were very uncompassionate towards my pet, and handled her roughly when inspecting the wound, showing no empathy. They didn't even schedule a follow up to check on the stitch or a set date to remove them! I was so angry and in disbelief that I left to go to another hospital. While the front desk staff was accommodating, the doctors' bad attitude and unprofessional handling of my pet's situation were appalling. I would not recommend anyone to bring their pet here. VEG needs to seriously address these issues to provide the level of care that pet owners expect and deserve. read more

I dropped off a sick kitten to VEG brokaw on 6/20. The kitten was not transferred to the shelter. It was not on the shelter website. I do not know what they did to the animal. On the shelter door it says after hours send to VEG brokaw. I called veg and spoke to John he said veg has no contract with the shelter and they cannot provide information. read more

Over the weekend, my cat's breathing became really strange, and I was extremely worried. I stumbled upon VEG and saw their excellent reviews, noting that they were a new facility. I called ahead to let them know I was coming, and the person on the line, Marso (I hope I'm getting that right), was very reassuring despite my shaky voice. When I arrived, everyone immediately attended to my cat, and I was amazed by their coordination and speed. What sets VEG apart, as other reviews also mention, is that they're an open-floor facility. This means you can see everything that happens, which is incredibly comforting because waiting makes any cat parent anxious. Here, you can see what the doctors are doing and where your pet is at all times. During the few hours I was there, everyone was super friendly and even offered me snacks and water. Thank you to the gentleman (I'm so sorry I didn't get your name) for being so attentive to everyone. Of course, being an ER, you should come prepared with stuff to keep you occupied because there might be a long wait. Dr. Cherie attended to me and my cat, and she was so sweet, explaining everything and answering all my questions. Hopefully, I'll never be in a situation where I need to go again, but knowing that I can go to VEG makes me feel better. Also, they're 24/7! The bill was about $1,600, so please get pet insurance for your animals! I know that they're pretty new, and so I hope that as they grow, their quality of service and care stay the same. read more

Amazing! My partner and I brought our cat in for urinary concerns. The staff was thorough, efficient and extremely knowledgeable while addressing our concerns and treating the issue. This was our first experience with the emergency vet but we felt at ease the entire time being able to be stay close to our cat who is also very shy of strangers. Best of all our cat, Juju, is feeling much better and thriving thanks to the recommendations of this team. I have never felt more at ease visiting an emergency clinic before. When I took to another hospital for a potentially life-threatening emergency, they just took her into the back and did not say a word to me for 3 hours. It was all I could do to keep it together. It was the exact opposite here. Not only are you able to stay with your pets while waiting, they also let you be in the area to see the operation. (Although that might be case dependent. My dog's operation that day was not a major one). The doctors and staff would give me updates and check up on us. And overall, the vibes were much more friendly and welcoming than the two other emergency clinics I have been to. Thank you to all the kind doctors and staff who took care of us during our visit. I came in with my bunny who is not doing well at all. I couldn't find a vet near me that took in bunnies and I called ahead and was able to speak to a vet before I made the trip. I took my 3 month old puppy in last night because she ingested marijuana on a walk, it was such a scary experience but I called VEG and they reassured me and told me to come in. As soon as I got in they took her and started taking her vitals and testing what was going on. They were so helpful for my dog but also helping me calm down from the scary situation. Best experience you hope to never have! I cannot say enough positive things-- first the staff are so intelligent and empathetic. The open concept for patients was something I'd never seen, but allowed the team to move seamlessly between different animals quickly and I think it reduces your perceived wait time when you're stressed. My cat had to stay for a few days, so we were afforded a private room with a pullout couch so we could stay with him constantly-- another thing I'd never seen but it made a world of difference being able to stay with him and not have him be alone. We love Veterinary Emergency Group. We started just as an emergency visit for our Guinea pig (Petrie ). The staff rocked!! Took him in as soon as they could. They were gentle, kind and informative. They gave us plenty of time to address all of our questions and did a great job explaining his treatment for our guinea pig to us. I am so thankful for all they have done for our Petrie. I left feeling grateful we had found a wonderful local Vet. Angels work here. We are so lucky we found veg after having a horrible experience at SAGE vet. Anya, Hailey, and the receptionist are true angels on earth. They all treated my dog much better than I have ever been treated in a medical setting and I am so thankful! I saw them get on the floor with animals, talk things over in detail with families, and even saw then perform an emergency in the hours I was there. Very very thankful! I brought my cat to them, not expecting much given my experience with other veterinarians in this area. Yet, I was very happy with the treatment me and my cat got. We did not have to wait -- they immediately sent him through a triage, and then after a very brief wait my cat got medical attention. Despite my cat being scared and misbehaving, they managed to evaluate him and give him treatment, without actually subduing him. This was hard to believe, but they apparently have awesome professional skills. My cat is now recovering, big thank you to them. read more

I had taken other sick pets to a different 24-hour emergency vet clinic on the past years. I'm a very happy to have found this place for my last pet. From the moment I walked in everyone there was friendly, professional and kind. I was able to spend quiet time with my pet, hold her while she was euthanized, and hold her while I grieved. Took me a while to write this but I need to tell people how wonderful this place is; we had to put down our Haze due to health issues and age; we called to get some info first and the staff was very friendly and helpful. When we got there, the immediate response and affection towards us and our Haze was very heartfelt and welcoming. They allowed me to hold him the entire time, talked us through the process and allowed us to have as much time as we needed to say goodbye. The staff and Doctor were all so compassionate and supportive. We are beyond grateful for this clinic, as hard as that decision is for owners, they made the process so much easier and less stressful, just by them being so understanding, patient and caring. This place is an absolute hoax. My brother took his dog in because the dog ate something and was vomiting. They did $1200 worth of x-rays and sent him home with some Pepto-Bismol. We then took the dog to Davis and they actually treated him for what was wrong however he had complications the next night. We take him back to this emergency room because it was closer and they wanted to do $1200 more of x-rays, a different part of his body and blood work. Place is a total hoax. Cost of Fortune doesn't heal your animal and honestly should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more
