Very clean quaint atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and tasty. We ordered off the kids menu for our Granddaughter and the filet' for us. The Granddaughters order came out long before our mains which was strange. When ours arrived it was a bit cool. It was cooked well. We thought being served with fries was a bit short. At $48.00 you would think a salad and a better choice with a baked potato and vegetable would be made. Some might say you should have sent it back, I don't. i thought the atmosphere here was cozy and warm, with soft lighting and lovely landscape paintings on the walls. regarding appetizers: the fried tomatoes, although very crispy, had too much breading (loved the goat cheese on top of those). the crab cake was spectacular and made with fresh blue crab meat. the in terms of the main course, my scallops were so buttery and perfectly cooked. however, the mashed potatoes could have been a bit more flavorful and salty. didn't love the cheesecake. the servers were great; no complaints there. read more

Vic's On the River is one of those places where the setting alone makes you feel fancier than you actually are. We got seated upstairs overlooking the water, and honestly, they could've handed me a grilled cheese and I still would've been impressed. Watching the boats float by with a drink in hand has a way of convincing you that life is going pretty well. Luckily, the food keeps pace with the view. The ribeye came out juicy and cooked exactly how I asked.. not "we'll call this medium rare if you squint," but actually medium rare. The mac and cheese was gooey in all the right ways, the kind that stretches off your fork like it's auditioning for a pizza commercial. And the cornbread? Sweet enough that it could almost count as dessert if you weren't already saving room for pie. Speaking of dessert, the pecan pie was the real closer. Sticky, rich, and so good I considered ordering a second slice just to eat secretly in the car on the way home. Yes, it's a little touristy, and yes, the prices reflect the fact that you're dining with a river view. My wife and I were in Savannah and she had a work meeting she had to call into, so I was on my own for lunch. A friend had recommended Vic's and I am glad he did! It is right on the river, but not really a great view inside, but it was basically just me at the bar and I ordered an IPA and I have never tried a flounder po' boy before, so I felt like being adventurous. The IPA hit the spot on a warmish day after lots of walking and my server was super nice and pretty fast with everything. I ordered collard greens as my said and with all the collard greens I got in Savannah, they were really good. The po' boy flounder was perfectly fries and basically a very non-fishy tasting white sauce. Along with the lettuce and tomato and awesome bread, with the sauce, it was an awesome and filling sandwich. Party of 3. Dad and two grown sons. Mussels 2 smash burgers Shrimp & Grits 30 min wait in a Friday night. Not bad. Hostess was excellent. Watched her problem solve and is very good at her job. Ordered drinks. Came right out. Ordered mussels. I could smell they were bad when they arrived at the table. How the expeditor didn't catch it is beside me. We picked through them. We eat these often. Finished half. No check back. Cleared mussel plate. My napkin on the side plate was left in the table for another 15 minutes. I had to flag over the server and ask her to remove the napkin. Explained the bad mussel experience. Asked her to bring the napkin to the expo and let them smell. She slips around the corner for 30 seconds then brought the stinky mussel plate behind the bar to a buss tub there. Now her entire bar has to smell this. No manager check in on the problem. Bad server. Still tipped 20%. Poor follow up. Entree weren't put in until after the app plate was cleared. 3 grown men/ young men eating one app. Waited another hour for our 2 smash burgers and shrimp and grits. Shrimp and grits were ok but nothing to write home about. Sauce good. Shrimp cooked perfectly. Andouille sausage undercooked greasy and meh. Grits good. Smash burgers were burnt. Server PM bar. You know who you are. Covid's over step it up and pay attention. I ran a 4 star restaurant in DC for 10 years. Have opened over 20 restaurants as a GM and chef. You would have got a 100% tip had you done the basic job. Y'all can do better read more

Finding Vic's on the River was a little tricky--parking near the river in public lots was fine, but the area has multiple similarly named sister restaurants. The elevator appeared to be out of service, so we had to walk up a rocky alley before locating the entrance. Once inside, the hostess initially tried to seat us at a bar high-top despite having reservations, even though the main dining room had plenty of open tables. A confusing start, but thankfully, all of that was forgotten when Javetta, our fantastic waitress, came to the rescue. She promised to take good care of us--and she absolutely did. Drinks were topped off, recommendations were spot-on, and our food arrived promptly. The she-crab soup is rich, buttery, and packed with crab. The fried green tomatoes are life-changing--don't skip them. My pecan-crusted flounder with haricot verts and mashed potatoes was rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. My sister's crab cakes were also excellent. The flounder po'boys were a miss for us--the fish was fried with the skin on, and the untoasted bread quickly became soggy, though the sides were good. Dessert redeemed everything: the pecan pie is a must. Vic's blends history, charm, and well-appointed décor with excellent food and service. Javetta made the experience memorable, and the menu makes it worth the slightly rocky start. read more

A fine-dining establishment serving classic Southern cooking, Vic's on the River is housed in a historic 19th-century five-story brick building. I loved the sweet, soft honey butter biscuits as well. The greens in the salad were crisp and the dressing added the flavorful touch. The combination of oyster, catfish, and shrimp with wedges fries was fine and satisfied my seafood craving. You could taste the freshness, making this food that truly celebrated the rich culinary traditions of the South. The service was attentive and our server checked on us regularly to ensure we were enjoying our gastronomic time there. Good food with some misses. Great location. Great service. I started with the She-Crab soup that I read on a blog was the best in town. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Maybe I should have tried the French Onion soup. The biscuits were very good, fluffy and crisp. The special I ordered was pan-seared swordfish with asparagus, fries shrimp, and crab risotto. The risotto was clumpy and had crab flavor, but no pieces of crab, so likely cooked with some crab stock. Pieces of crab may have helped me overlook the poor texture of the risotto. The shrimp was very good. Breaded and tails were left on. I cut the tails off. When breading shrimp, go ahead and cut the tails off. Swordfish had great seasoning and was only a little overcooked, although one side was burned, but I was able to scrape it off. I enjoyed my Drunken Pecan cocktail, which is essentially a bourbon old fashioned sweet with pecan liqueur added. My server, Carrie, was exceptional! With all the great places to eat in Savannah, I was disappointed I chose Vic's on the River and will miss out on another potentially greater place. Good, but not worth rushing to. read more

It's taken me a long time to get back to this restaurant although I have often dreamed of their delicious fried shrimp and oysters. We visited Savannah for a birthday party and this was our first stop. We had one of the best servers I believe that I have EVER had, the sweet and kind Tanisha. She had such a positive and welcoming aura about her. Even if the shrimp and oysters had not lived up to my dreams, we still would have enjoyed the experience just because of her. But they did and we did everything but lick those plates clean! I do not understand why no other restaurant can make these dishes even close to Vic's. They are just outstanding. I travel a lot and tend to seek out oysters and mussels. I hate to be predictable, but I love shellfish. And I love finding something that surprises me. These mussels surprised me. I was staying nearby and looking for lunch, and they had me at mussels and fries. Or pomme frites, if you want to get fancy. It is a classic combination, but if people are not familiar, it seems weird. These mussels were dressed in a wine a butter sauce, very typical, but it also had capers and sausage. The capers were completely different for me. I have eaten mussels from Vancouver to Santorini, and this was a first. And I loved it. I can get down with some capers. I love those tiny briny buds. And they were plentiful. The sausage was good, but not necessary for me. The fries were seasoned and very tasty. I do wish they were fried a bit crispier, they were a bit wimpy. They had a seasoned mayonnaise with them that I did not try as I am unreasonable in my distaste for all things mayo. But the combination was still good. It was a very enjoyable lunch. Also, a very large portion and I could not finish it. Their mussels at dinner come with bread instead of the fries, and I think I would go that way on my next visit, that sauce is worth sopping up. I loved the tiled ceiling and black and white floor. The service was great. I knew what I wanted before stepping in, but the table next to me had several food allergies, and Logan our server, made sure that they were aware of ingredients and what they were safe to order. I have been in the area before and tend to stay away from the river and out of the more touristy areas, but coming to Vic's was worth meandering through all the people on the weekend. read more

The food was extremely fresh and reasonably priced, as well as having a nice ambience with views of the Savannah river at sunset. I really enjoyed the scallops, very flavorful and grilled perfectly. The risotto was light and creamy, and the bitterness of the arugula went well with it. It was packed and we had no reservations so we sat at the bar, which worked out fine. The only drawback was how loud the piano was while at the bar. I found out later there was one by our table upstairs which would have been nice to have had both options given to me since I've had ankle surgery and don't always do well with stairs. We were here on a business trip and a vendor took us to this amazing restaurant. The vibe is posh and the view is breathtaking. There's live music with a wonderful pianist playing some nice pieces. The bar is great and I love their drinks. There is a great selection of seafood entrees and I went with the seafood pasta as many already raved about it. The lobster tail, scallops and the shrimps are to die for. The cocktails are very delicious. For dessert, we ordered the trio which has a bread pudding, cheese cake and a chocolate cake. 9-16-24 Reservation Open Table 7pm Made reservations well In advance for my birthday dinner with hubby. Since it had so many Yelp reviews this place was on my radar to try out. Being unfamiliar with the area was surprised to see it located where all the shops are on River Street. We parked nearby but the meters were limited to two hours. As we approached we went to the other Vic's restaurant first, as did another couple who were ahead of us. We were directed to walk a couple more doors down and to take the elevator as we make our way through a coffee shop on the first floor. Once we got to the 4th floor we were greeted and brought to our table. Well I don't know if it was because we reserved or that it was my birthday but we got the best table in the place with a great view of the water. Also the table accommodated four even though we are two I relish the additional space. I looked over at the tables for two and I couldn't do it. Hubby had a Hendricks and tonic and I had champagne by the glass a Brut Rose. I never heard of the label but it was delicious and I had two glasses. We shared an order of Oysters Rockefeller as a starter. For my main course I had the Seared Scallops served on risotto minus the truffle oil. Hubby had the BBQ meatloaf. The portions are large so yes we took the leftovers home. I could only finish three of the four scallops. They were ginormous. My cats enjoyed sharing the last one when I got home. For dessert they brought me a celebratory piece of chocolate flourless gluten free cake. It was delicious and so thoughtful of them. Special shout out to our server Sean he was a 10. He was even kind enough to take our photo on the small balcony. Randall came over towards the end of the meal and assisted him. I try to come here fresh off the boat as soon as I get to town. Today was no exception, and it was a pleasant lunch albeit after a many-year break. It's a little "usual" for me with she crab soup a constant. I'm not sure what I'd do if that ever left the menu. Please don't make me think of that. But meanwhile I'll enjoy this extremely creamy soup. Mmm as good as I remember it, maybe better since absence and heart fonder, etc. I gaze sadly, yet empathetically, at those around me without she crab, glad they don't know what they're missing. Points for lots of crab as well, not just all cream. Also don't forget those tasty biscuits and butter they bring beforehand. Sadly they were out of the Rueben, apparently popular today or somebody forgot to make the daily Rueben run. But happily I got the fried green BLT which was tasty instead! This is giant and I guess imagine a fried green appetizer on Texas toast. After the she crab I was barely able to finish. Dirt I will start by saying this place has two entrances: one on river street one on bay(??) street. This place also has a good view of the river. The she crab soup was good. It actually had big chunks of crab so I was good with that. I think I could be a little bit, just a tad, less thick. The shrimp and grits!!! The shrimp was big and flavorful. The grits nice and creamy but I could of use just a tad bit more something. My friend got the short rib sandwich and was not impressed. We both thought the drinks were on point. You only need one. Hubby and I came for a business trip and we stayed right next door - Hyatt Regency. It was a rainy day, so we decided to walk over to the nearest restaurant - Vic's On The River. It was an ordinary Monday night, but many tables were occupied or reserved. Once you walked in, you could feel the classic yet relaxed atmosphere. The sky was so blue, view to the river was awesome. We ordered creamy crab soup and crab cake to start with. Crab cake was amazing! Fresh and sweet! Creamy crab soup is a slight salty but good amount of crab meats. Atlantic Shellfish Melange looks good, tastes okay. Pasta was a a little too soft and sauce was thick. Shrimp and grits tastes good, shrimps are fresh and crunchy. Sauce, a little salty as well. Overall food was good, price was fair, atmosphere was awesome. On our way out, we noticed they have lived piano music! Love it! read more

This meal was absolutely delicious! Possibly one of the best meals I've had this year. Crab cakes were all crab and not all filler. Vic's knows how to do crab cakes right! The scallops were perfectly cooked and juicy although it was disappointing that only 3 were served with the meal as they were smedium sized. The fried chicken was golden brown, crisp on the outside but juicy inside. The inside of Vic's is beautiful. A fully stocked bar with lots of options and plenty of seats with a great view of the river. Vic's has two entrances, one on River Street and one on Bay Street. They also offer outdoor seating for those that are inclined. I stopped by for lunch so I was on a bit of a time restraint but our waiter was quick and friendly. We weren't able to try out any of the appetizers but the table next to us ordered the fried green tomatoes and they looked delectable. Food was superb. I had the rib eye which was excellent and cooked to perfection. Wife had Shellfish melange (lobster, scallops,and shimp over pasta) she enjoyed all of it and said it was one of the best seafood entree she had in a long time. Also the portion size was just right. The special drink was a martini called White Christmas. I'm not a martini fan but it was excellent. I had 3 of those bad bad boys. Our server Beverly who was spot on with our service. This is a restaurant that is recommended by influencers and magazines and I enjoyed my meal the first time I dined here a few years ago, however the meal and service were average this time. Maybe it's because I chose to sit at a bar instead of a table, I'm not sure but the experience did not leave me with the desire to visit again.   Old bay French fries $5 and very limited dipping sauce options, no aioli or ranch; Summer gin $15 was mediocre, and Seared Scallops $34 were originally sent out with cold risotto. The server called over management and they immediately contacted the kitchen for a new order, I appreciated that management didn't make any excuse. We had a party of 13 when dining here and they were easily able to accommodate us. The food all arrived at the same time.
