Honestly, REALLY surprised by this place! As pretty much the only food joint open within 5-10 miles, they could just be capitalizing on late night drunk food. But they're actually whipping up fresh pies made to order, and they're quality! The drunk snacks, also great. Overall, within the context of late night, only place open, pizza joint, absolutely delivers a 5-star experience for us.

    Fresh pies ready to go!

The pizza is exceptional! The chef was introduced me to their calzones, garlic bites and wonderful ingredients. The pizza is hot, crispy (toasty), great fresh ingredients and the dough is fabulous.

The owner is an absolute delight and a true artist. You can taste the passion and attention to detail in every dish. This is a small, compact place with about 2 dozen tables, but the tables are large enough and arranged well so that you don't feel crowded in. They have a small bar, but not for sitting, just serving. Everything seemed to be clean. The restaurant fills up very quickly; so you definitely need reservations. We both ordered a glass of chardonnay from Chile and lobster bisque, and we split an arugula salad. For the main course my Son ordered veal scallopini and I had the rabbit. For dessert we shared the Molotoff, which is a merengue. I had espresso and my Son a cappucino. At the beginning, they brought some nice fresh bread with a choice of butter or olive oil. The soup was so delicious with tender lobster chunks (best I've had in years). At that point I was thinking of giving a rating of 5, but then my entre was disappointing. The sauce was good, but the rabbit was tough and tasteless. My Son enjoyed his scallopini. The salad, although not exceptional, was good. We also unexpectedly received some vegetables on the side with our entre. The dessert and coffee were also good and blessedly light because the portions here are huge. We were very stuffed by the time we left. I would definitely return if, for no other reason, the soup; but I would order a different entre - maybe a pasta.

Not all pizza is created equal of course and people's taste buds/preferences are going to be different, but as someone who's had pizza all over the place, this one is one of the better ones. If I had to make one complaint about it, it's the grease - but it's a minor complaint. If I'm in the area and want a good slice, I know to come here. They also have plenty of other options of course with both slices/pies and other items - a lot of it behind the large glass display when you come in. I've had a few things already and everything has been good. I am preferential to the pepperoni pinwheel, but there are plenty of options to satisfy most. It's nice to have the options, as some places don't have as many. The menu is pretty deep and has quite a lot to offer. They have both pick up and delivery available and a website to order from (and view the menu). The fridge is well stocked with plenty of options. There are some tables for those wanting a quick slice and there's also full dine in tables with service. They share the land with other businesses, so the parking lot can be annoying and busy at times. Overall a pretty good pizzeria in the area with a lot to offer. While I don't live here, I work in the area frequently enough and it's nice to know I have this option. I'll of course be back.

But since we wrapped up with errands in the area, Scaramella's was it. Located in a mini strip mall in Dobbs Ferry, Scaramella's is very old-school- but with a splash of class and then some. Once you pass the foyer, their bar area greets you followed by their large dining room. At about 5pm on a Saturday, you can be seated with no issues. Any time after that, folks start piling up. Our server Anne Marie was no bull-shitter; got to the chase when she gave me a hush-hush tip on a Pear Salad I was eyeing. She's my girl alright. Our appetizers, were plentiful and tasty. Forget our main plates- because if you think you'll be getting a polite portion of pasta or any meal at that- think again. I honestly don't know if hub's spinach pasta was homemade- but that sucker was good. My $40 Swordfish+fresh carrots with an unexpected corn+ spinach medley, was tasty and abundant. Actually, I had leftovers. Can I also mention that these folks don't play around with their pours because my Lemon Drop was potent! Listen, I don't care that Scaramella's is located in strip mall or that my auntie-in-law didn't enjoy her meal years ago. From the looks of it, this place is happy-loud and has character. And no, it's not totally easy to park outside. That aside, our meals were satisfying, well-priced and the happy chaos, is all part of Scaramella's local charm.
