We've recently started coming here more often. We used to just grab takeout, but with limited nice sit-down spots in the area, this is hard to beat for convenience and cost. It's a great mix of a nice restaurant and a chill neighborhood bar. My fiance says it reminds him of the bar from "Cheers". We didn't like the pizza. The crust was like dry and different. For entree, we ordered the nanna's gravy, mile high lasagna, linguine with seafood ,chicken marsala, pork chop calabrese, and tiramisu. Been here twice and have always had a great time. Service is usually on point, the complimentary bread is straight . Tried the fried calamari, burrata and Grigliato Misto. All were really good but if I had to pick, the Misto really stood out. Nanna's pasta had a great kick paired with a nice meaty sauce. Meatballs are great too. The food was delicious! We got the garlic bread (forgot to take a pic before eating it LOL) and it was the perfect amount of crunchy combined with cheese and garlic. It also came with a really great marinara sauce for dipping. I got the vodka rigatoni and it was so great. It was creamy and the noodles were cooked to perfection. My friend got the spaghetti and meatballs and couldn't stop raving about them. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He ever recommended wine pairings for our dinners. I have never had a bad experience at this place. If you're Seated at the bar the service is quick and friendly. The dinner crowd can get hectic but it's usually not a long wait to get a table, and the menu has some classics that don't disappoint. We ordered a couple things off the apps menu which quickly became quite pricey. We spent more on three apps than we would on a nice dinner... But anyway - the clams were good. The white sauce was very tasty. You have your choice of white or red. The roasted brussel sprouts were delicious and a pretty good portion. The capers were delicious! Then we got to the pizza... we saw it online and came FOR the pizza but unfortunately... it looks better than it tasted. HUGE disappointment. The crust was reminiscent of a frozen pizza, which was surprising after having great bread. The sauce was underwhelming and the cheese... wait... there was no cheese. None... which was not advertised. I've never had that happen EVER. The pepperonis were good but... they're pepperonis. Worst pizza I've had in Chicago. Located on S Michigan Ave in the South Loop of Chicago, Victory Tap's customers feels like a mix of chicagoans and tourists staying at one of the many nearby hotels. The dining room feels old school Italian, nice and cozy, photos of actors along the walls, quite a large bar that looks very impressive with TV's showing sports for those wanting to keep an eye on March Madness! Lastly, noise, which is typically one of my pain points in restaurants wasn't an issue, with us being able to maintain a conversation without yelling at each other. The food is quite delicious - you start with complimentary garlic bread which is tasty, soft and crispy at the same time, accompanied with a delicious homemade marinara sauce. We ordered the fried calamari, which was a little on the soft side for me, could have been a bit crispier and between the three of us, we ordered the Orecchiette, Gnocchi and Nanna's Gravy for entrees. I've had both the gnocchi and the orecchiette and both a quite good, good sized portions, pasta well cooked and nice and flavorful. The standout though was the Nanna's Gravy! I only tried a little bit, but the flavors were amazing and the pot roast was so tender...I will be trying this the next time I go! The only thing I am dinging the restaurant for, and it's not really a ding, just not enough to garner 5 stars, is the service. Our server was fine, the food arrived promptly and the bussers were all quite attentive clearing our table and filling waters etc., but I didn't think it was engaging or exceptional enough to push it to the 5th star...would consider it as "meeting expectations". Our fantastic server, Danny, informed us that all of their pasta is homemade and his recommendation was spot on. He suggested a wine to pair with our dinner and like everything else he recommended, it was a winner. The Elmwood Park pizza was a great appetizer and the chicken Parmigiana is a must! Being apart tender I definitely know a great cocktail and they both made amazing Sicilian Manhattan's.
