Spotless restaurant, friendly waitstaff with their very broken English accent. I ordered the shrimp phò. A huge portion arrived at my table with the usual condiments of this particular dish. Friendly service but honestly the place is so run down and unclean that it's not nice to eat there. The broth was certainly not authentic tasting and the seafood pho had imitation crab and tiny scallops that tasted canned with an overly salty broth. Before I even start, this is the 5th time I have been here and only now I am reviewing because I always get sooooo excited about the food, I forget to take a picture. This place is EXCELLENT, everything they do is delicious and has an amazing twist that I have never experienced before. First, the summer rolls, they have a large selection of types but my favorite is the classic shrimp ones. The portion sizes are great and they are very refreshing. Next and honestly the BEST part of the meal is always the calamari. This is not like any other calamari you have had. It's light, crisp, meaty and the seasoning is to die for. Me and my boyfriend get two orders now because it saves us from arguing over who got to eat more. If there is one thing you try here is should be the calamari. The pho is also amazing here. This time we got the P10 and the P1 which is the eye round w/ flank and the house combination respectively. Both come in a very delicious and multidimensional broth. I would recommend a bit of basil and lime to really brighten it up. All of the drinks here are also excellent. I haven't found a single thing that isn't excellent. The owners are also very invested in their customers. I came here with my boyfriends father who really was hoping for Vietnamese hot and sour soup but they didn't have it on the menu, when he asked, the owner told him he would make it for him special. This place has gotten awful. I ordered a bowl of Bun Bo Hue that had some slices of Vietnamese bologna and a few pieces of meat. They charged $10 for essentially a bowl of noodles. Go to Miss Saigon in Freehold. Don't bother with this place. read more

One of the top pho restaurants in the area and I definitely recommend people to try this place out. Their dishes are prepared only with the freshest ingredients. Their menu has a wide variety of authentic Vietnamese dishes and when I took my family here, we each ordered something different. Everyone left very pleased at the quality of food prepared. Their signature sliced beef bowl isn't oily and it doesn't emit a strong odor like other pho establishments. The meat is very tender and the portion size is perfect. The restaurant itself is easy to locate and plenty of room for parking. The interior is very clean and you can tell the owner cares a lot about keeping standards high. The manager would occasionally check up with us and to see if everything is perfect. Great customer service, great food, perfect place for friends and family for a nice meal. Staff is friendly and place is alway clean. Been here many times for dine in and take out, food seems to be consistently good and coffee has a slightly different taste which I really enjoy. Also, sometimes I stop on Route 9 to get there Boba tea because I like theirs the best. I've been on this Pho kick recently. Unlucky for me they are few and far between in Ocean County. Tried this place during lunch time. Not crowded and plenty of tables. I ordered the veg pho hold the tofu but as always I ended up with tofu. Must be a missed in translation thing. The broth was good, the noodles weren't so plenty though. My lunch guests had the grilled chicken pho and shrimp pho. Both said the broth was tasty but lack of noodles. I mean ya gotta have something to slurp and splash. I'm good with this place though. We didn't travel to Howell often, so when I learned about a Vietnamese restaurant on Route 9, I chalked it up as a must-visit! Which proves to be a good decision for a lunch spot for the Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant was very quiet when we were there. Service was fast and very friendly. We ordered the standard fare, Rice vermicelli w/BBQ pork+egg rolls, pho with meat ball and steak, and BBQ pork chop with broken rice. But the resulting dishes are more than standard. Truth be told, I was often surprised by how different each restaurant produced the rice vermicelli dish (many negatively), even though it was a standard Vietnamese number. Sometimes the meat was a bit rare, some restaurant's combo mix smells too "meaty" or the veggies somehow didn't taste fresh.... but this bistro's version is a definite plus. The meat is nicely marinated, not too salty or sweet, but the blended cornucopia with the sauce turned out to taste a bit sweeter and flavorful that I could literally smell the flavors when I inhaled. The broth of pho is delicious, and the pork chop is well marinated and equally yummy. And -- while this may just be a minor point -- I kinda like their presentation, dishes on square plates and the meat neatly stacked and arranged (before it got destroyed later in the feeding frenzy!) There wasn't many visitors when we were there, but I do hope this restaurant will keep flourishing. We're glad to find this hidden gem. I heard a lot of good things about Vietnam Bistro plus it's very near home. Why not? We decided on a Wednesday evening and sat right away. Not being too familiar with Vietnamese cuisine we were approached by a waiter that spoke little English, so help inquiring about the menu would be nil. Fortunately the menu has pictures and descriptions for novices. After taking a long while deciding on what we wanted another waiter asked us in English if we needed any help. Whew! He asked us if we wanted to start with an appetizer. He talked up the calamari and we decided to go with it. The calamari were unlike the usual deep fried you get with marinara. They were breaded and sautéed with a sweet sauce on the side. I don't believe I've ever had more tender calamari. They almost melted in my mouth. Definitely fresh. I decided on the pho with shrimp and Vietnamese meatballs while my date had Bun with pork and Vietnamese egg rolls. I'm a stickler for hot food and my pho came out steaming hot; had to actually wait to eat it. Amid the rice vermicelli and broth were, shallots, peas, onions, shrimp, and meatballs that were different if one was expecting Italian meatballs. Although good and very well made I would have preferred a little less cilantro. The bun was awesome and if you are thinking in terms of Chinese egg rolls, don't. I'll be back. I wasn't impressed with their lunch specials. We tried L1 and L2. The shredded pork was so so and the pork chops were mostly bones. Not very satisfying. Only the pho (we tried P5) was up to par but I thought it was a bit pricey. I didn't like the ambiance too much. A bit ad hoc. The staff were friendly and they do have a large menu. I want to come back and try their banh mi (baguette sandwiches). It's a bit out of the way, but there aren't very many Vietnamese restaurants in the area so it's better than nothing. read more

A little disappointed with the portion I received, a small amount of noodles and 1 meatball that was cut in 4 pieces (not pictured was the rare steak). Pho broth had good flavor. Not a lot of options for pho in this area. There are like four places within half an hour's drive. This one is ... fine. It will get the job done. That's about it. Yeah.. they have pho. That's about all there is to recommend this place: if you need pho, they have it. I dunno about the 5-star reviews. I have had pho across the country, I have had pho that would blow your mind... (I have not been to Vietnam, so I have not had that pho.) So, the first guy that sat me at my table barely spoke English. That's fine: I may not speak Vietnamese, but I can order my food in Vietnamese just fine. Still, he insisted that I wait until the other waiter came, and that's fine. No problem there. The other waiter, who was American, who spoke English with no accent, came over, and I asked for pho tai nam and some nuoc beo on the side, which he seemed to understand. Well, the pho tai nam came, but no nuoc beo. I didn't pursue it. It wasn't worth it. The pho here is ... fine. It's okay. If you're stranded somewhere and this is the only pho available to you, then great, this is where you should go. But you're not stranded. Yeah, options are limited. You may have to drive 30 minutes. This is a culinary wasteland, after all. I grew up here so I'm totally justified in saying it's a culinary wasteland. You can go a couple miles north on Route 9 and eat at Miss Saigon and get better pho. The rare beef, the tai, was overcooked. Like it had been cooked before being put in the broth. The broth was very hot, hotter than normal, and that's probably why: maybe next time ask for the tai on the side? It's fine. If you're desperate for some pho, it's fine. It will get the job done. And that's all I can say about Vietnam Bistro. Go to Pho Tastic in Brick, or even better, Pho Viet Express in Toms River. Sure, you will have to drive the extra miles, but living at the Jersey Shore you're probably well-acqainted with that. Or just go a couple miles north on Route 9 and eat at Miss Saigon. Woah...did not see this one coming. Unassuming restaurant is REALLY good, I had B2, pasta and beef thing (picture attached) very good, fresh flavors. Tasted lighter than I expected but great portions. My sister has a really good Pad Thai, she always tries this dish at restaurant. Many misses, but this was a definite hit! I've only been here once... actually I haven't even been here. I did an online delivery. I've recently been into this type of food and found this place only about five minutes from my house. I will say that online delivery was VERY easy. I had no problems whatsoever navigating the site, putting my order thru or with my payment. I ordered a bubble tea, summer rolls, and short ribs. I might be forgetting one other entree as well. The food was very tasty and very fresh. The presentation for a to-go was gorgeous. It didn't look like someone just threw it in the box (which most to-gos look like). My only complaint is that they forgot my bubble tea and that was the thing I was most looking forward to. But otherwise, very good food. I would call them and confirm the order next time though so mishaps happen. read more
