The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because of the VIEW & how clean it was, if this place didn't had the beautiful view & was dirty I would say 0 stars. The food is so expensive and so basic, Applebees has better food. Our fries were over cooked, I asked no bacon on my burger & came with bacon - I don't eat bacon. We asked for well done meat on the burger & it was very red. They took 20min to ask what we wanted to drink, took 40min to bring our drinks - even water! We waited 1hr and half for somebody to come back and take our order. We were there at 12:10pm, we were seated 12:30pm and we didn't eat until 3pm and we waited till 4pm for a box. Very disappointed!! Food wasn't good and servers didn't help us when we complained about the mistakes, so, my mom took out her meat since she wanted well done & mine had a lot bacon. A small group of family from out of town gathered here for drinks and appetizers following a funeral. I don't have a single criticism. The appetizers and drinks were all top notch. Went as a group of 12 last night and it was a disaster. Our personal menus were printed with the wrong items. Waited forever for drinks until we went up to the bar to get them ourselves, had to ask multiple times for refills of bread and water. Didn't get our water refilled until dessert after asking twice. The server kept saying someone else would be there but isn't that his job? The short rib gnocchi was 7 tiny fried pieces on top of a pile of meat with no sauce. A photo online 7 months ago showed actual gnocchi with sauce. Save your money and go anywhere else. read more

3 stars for the food and 4 stars for the patio and view. We have been twice now when visiting family in the area. Both times fell short on the quality of the food. Also my biggest issue is the menu. When you give a table a crumpled up, previously abused paper menu, that is just plain lazy. Print a new one and give out clean crisp menus, not dirty ones! Details! We started with the calamari app and it was overcooked and tough. My hubby's fish tacos were limp and just plain. I had the philly steak sando and it was just ok. BEWARE for the hidden "CC Fees". The manager told us it was posted in front, but nothing in sight. Despite the long wait times for food and the subpar quality, the manager said the owner charges a 2% credit card tax on all customer bills. Also, when I received the bill, my charges were $168. Then my AMEX sent a message saying they added an extra $10. So the hidden fees were added AFTER the initial bill. Damn ya'll, even ARCO charges only $.35 on debit. Time for an update! In the last year or two, I have been so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I'm not sure what changed, but something must have, because my last handful of dining experiences have been terrific. Just this weekend, I made a reservation for three and we were seated in their beautiful outdoor patio area. The weather was warm, the breeze gentle, and the atmosphere was just perfect for Saturday evening dining on the river. I ordered the filet mignon and it was DIVINE. The wine sauce accompanying the dish is so savory and delicious that you truly do want to clean every last scrap off your plate. And, of course, the dessert is no different. My table shared the coconut flan and the crème brûlée, and after everything was said and done, "food coma" was definitely the name of the game. In my first review, from a few years ago, I had an admittedly unsatisfactory experience with the prime rib and the service. The prime rib was overly fatty and the service could have used some improvements. While I have yet to give the prime rib another go, the service has improved dramatically and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

I had a lovely dinner last night at View 202. We made reservations For my son's 22nd birthday to sit outside. I was a bit worried when the temps dipped into the 40's but the fire pit & heat lamps kept us warm without having to wear jackets. We loved everything. The bread & herb dipping sauce, ahi poke appetizer, chicken Marsala & Mediterranean Halibut. It was all wonderful & full of flavor. Service was on pointe as well. read more

My boyfriend and I dined at View 202 during a small weekend getaway to Redding. I must first say that I was impressed with the gracious hospitality of the hostess and the server. I made a reservation at View 202 through OpenTable and mentioned that this was out first time in Redding and we were there for an anniversary. They were able to accommodate our request for a more secluded table, and even got us an outdoor table by the fire! The customer service was wonderful. The atmosphere of this restaurant is intimate and romantic. The outdoor section of the restaurant has fires and string lights. The inside looks like a club, and is rather dark. I definitely wish I had visited during the daytime because the view would have been great. We couldn't see much at night. Food-wise, the dishes are large-sized plates. I had about half the plate left to take home. I ordered the hand-made vegetable pasta. It was creamy, delicious, and very filling. My boyfriend ordered the swordfish, and he thought it was tender and tasty, although the smell was overwhelming. We also ordered the 50/50 fries, which was half sweet potato and half regular french fries. Overall, the food was good, but most of the price at View 202 comes with the dining experience. This place is great for an upscale date night, or an important business meeting. I'd recommend View 202 for celebratory occasions. Cheers! read more

We went on a Friday night on a hot date! They offer outdoor seating overlooking the Sacramento River where, on a clear day, you could see the sunset. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye, and I got the halibut. The halibut sat on a bed of jasmine rice which was cooked perfectly, and nice and creamy. The bok choi was not too tough, and didn't have any sand in it (which I struggle with at times :P). The halibut itself was delicious! I am a total meat lover, but I loved my fish! Also, their garden salad with goat cheese and berries was super great! I haven't had much goat cheese in my life, but I'm positive this was the creamiest and best goat cheese I've ever tasted. All from Redding! I tried the ribeye, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and boy, was it goood! It melted right in my mouth. The mashed potatoes were great too! Very garlic-y. And the polenta was a bad choice lol. It had a different type of flavor that we aren't used to. The prices are a bit high for my taste...but it was a hot date! lol read more

View has so much potential!!! The nicest venue in town - yet the menu/food and service has been poor for years. About every 6 months, my wife and I decide to give it another shot because "surely they've made some positive changes..." Nope, same thing every time. I would say their cocktails are good, patio and venue is amazing, bread and dip is excellent - from there, it goes downhill fast. 2 stars for 2 reasons. Its July 22 restaurants have had to switch to to go for months. * 1 - to go sandwich and fries in the same box, fries greasy and soggy. Beginner mistake. Fries pack individually. * 2 - NO NAPKINS SILVERWARE OR KETCHUP for an order of a prime rib sandwich and a full size salad. At least they didn't dress the salad first, amd put it in a side container. Sandwich was great, hostess was awesome though overwhelmed and under supported. Thoughtful not to dress the salad, but also maybe put the bleu cheese in side container as well. read more

Loved this place! We came here for Sunday evening lunch and were super impressed with the restaurant, the service, and the outside view! In October, the weather was really nice for sitting outside and the lamps made it even cozier. We had lots of different yummy appetizers and a delicious pizza. This place has no sense of customer-service skill. Our table seemed to be forgotten about. We had to ask for water refills, to have a heater brought to our table. When we asked for these things, the staff seemed offended and confrontational. A server literally just set a pile of silverware on the table, didn't even let us know that there was silverware for us, or offer to hand it out. For a place with prices like this, they should offer water refills and check up on the tables for than once every 25-30 minutes. Looking around at the negative reviews, I see a lot of the same problems. And the same cook-cutter answer is given from the restaurant "we will take this review into consideration" Obviously not, since there is still lack on customer service. read more

The theme of my experience? "We're out of that" meets Denny's quality. Seriously, I hate leaving poor reviews especially when it's a local place. But I don't think View 202 is even trying anymore. After realizing Mosaic had a 35 minute wait for brunch, I was antsy. So we decided to try View's (newish) brunch menu. Half of the staff were polite and friendly, while the other half obviously hated the fact they were working a Sunday shift. No one was rude but it just doesn't make for a nice experience when you can tell the staff hate having to be there. We sit down and order coffee - except they ran out of caffeinated coffee and only have decaf. Okay, decaf it is. Just kidding, 10 minutes later I was informed that "all the coffee cups are out on the tables". So no coffee for me. Awesome - who wants coffee with brunch anyways? Side note, there were no visible coffee mugs anywhere on the tables and shortly thereafter the table next to us (who came in after us) was served tea or coffee in coffee cups...whatever. Other things they were out of included cherries for their cocktails (not a big deal IMO but still). The food was okay - I had French toast with potatoes and bacon and the husband had steak, eggs, and potatoes. It was fine but I could have the same quality food at Denny's for a lot cheaper (with coffee! Yes, I'm bitter about that part). So so underwhelming. The view is great, but that doesn't make it worth it. After speaking with the manager I was convinced that we needed to give View 202 another try. My sister and I went in for brunch and we were not disappointed. We asked to sit outside and were seated promptly. It's around 110 degrees today, but the misters were on and our ice waters were refilled many times so we didn't really notice the heat. We started with the Ricotta Donut Holes, I was hesitant at first, but they were delicious. My sister and her friend also loved them, and I am glad that we tried them. I had the tri tip sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was good and much larger than I anticipated. Lani, our server recommend the house dressing which was a type of mustard vinaigrette, and it was delicious as well. The girls had the classic breakfasts and they too were surprised at how large the portions were. They're picky teens, but they both agreed that they really liked the food and wanted to come back with their friends. Over all I was pleasantly surprised at all of the changes that have been made over past year. I think that if you had discounted this place due to a bad previous experience then it is definitely worth trying again. read more

I came here two years ago and had a less than desirable experience due a wedding being held on the patio. Service and food were substandard, however I loved the overall concept and Redding does not have many places quite like View 202. When I returned recently, I decided I really wanted to give this place another try... I made a reservation for lunch on Saturday and was very happy to discover they now use OpenTable. This time we were able to sit on the patio in front of the beautiful Sacramento River (very happy). We were seated right away and our server was friendly and attentive. For my drink I ordered the hibiscus margarita and Sun Kissed Mule, which were both well crafted and very delicious. For the appetizer, we had the Calamari which I must say was one of the best I have ever had. For my entree, I ordered the veggie flatbread. The ingredients were fresh and tasty and I really enjoyed it. The only downside was it was cooked about a minute or two too long, but other than that, very good. My BF had the New York Steak Flatbread sandwich. It was a huge hit for the both of us with great flavor, however wish the seasoning could have been more consistent throughout the sandwich. Overall, this place is a great restaurant with amazing drink, food, service, and atmosphere. I am very glad I came back and look forward to coming back here when I'm in town. read more

A group of 10 with reservations had dinner on a Thursday evening. The inside area was sparsely filled but the outside dining was fairly busy. We had a lovely young waitress who informed us it was only her second night there. She took our drink order and 25 minutes later, still no drinks. We sent in one of our party to check on the drinks. In the bar there were 2 people sitting at the bar and 2 bartenders cleaning the area. No one was making drinks. After reminding them, it took another 20 minutes for our drink order to appear. Forty-five minutes is a very long time to wait for pre-dinner cocktails! Our waitress took our food order: 8 dinners and a pizza for 2 children. Dinner arrived but the pizza didn't arrive until the adults were finished and their plates were cleared. All diners enjoyed their food but the portions were small and the prices were large! Obviously there is a lack of good management here. First, don't restaurants make a lot of money with the pre-dinner cocktails? Our party might have ordered another round of drinks if our first order had appeared in a timely fashion. Second, who assigns a new waitress a party of 10 on her second night? Third, what was the delay with the pizza order? And fourth, why are portions so small? If salads were included with our entree, it would be understandable. It will be a long time before any of us returns to View 202. read more

Not quite ready for a bump up to 5* but holy moly has View 202 stepped it up. Our server, I believe her name was Bernice, was fantastic - 5* {especially for putting up with us!}. She was prompt, present and even more importantly she remembered me from a previous visit which was a nice touch. Dinner was fantastic - 5* ... take note View 202 you finally have a Chef who is on the verge of completely turning View 202 around - keep him! The flavor profiles were excellent on every single dish. Keep up the excellent improvement in both service and food and this will soon again be a 5* restaurant. I'm strongly suspicious of the 1-2* reviews here with no check-in and/or photos which is a shame. This restaurant deserves another chance to be the restaurant it has the potential to be! read more

Great spot on the river, really nice deck overlooking the water. Misters helped offset the 104 degree temperature. The delivery of our first adult beverage was slow, but after that service was very good. Food was excellent: I had the short rib gnocchi dish which was delicious. My better half had the tacos from appetizer menu, she claimed they were fantastic. And, the bread served before dinner with the pesto dipping sauce was awesome.
