We had lunch at Viewpoint Brewing on our way out of San Diego the Sunday before last. We made a 1:00 reservation a day in advance and showed up with a whole crew: me and my husband, a chill baby, a screaming three-year-old, and the kids' grandparents. We thought we'd be early, but dang, that traffic out of San Diego is gnarly, something to keep in mind if you happen to be planning a stop on your drive back to L.A. Parking was easy, though, and we were shown to our table right away, with nary a blinked eye for our older son's meltdown. We strapped him, still wriggling, into a high chair and eventually got one for the baby, too. I know not everyone needs breweries to be family friendly, but we certainly appreciated it. It was also nice for other reasons, a huge space with tons of tables and a serene lagoon view. The interior was super airy, the kind of indoor/outdoor set-up I've grown to love since the dawn of COVID, with garage-style doors thrown open to meet the patio. We sat at one of the indoor tables, right in front of several giant beer silos containing some of the brews we ended up ordering. The atmosphere was relaxing but pleasantly vibrant, enough so that our kid's bad mood only affected our table. Service was excellent, friendly and lightning fast, our beers appearing almost as soon as we asked for them. Viewpoint brews on site (see above, re: giant beer silos) and offers over 20 house varieties that should cover the tastes of every beer drinker (though if beer isn't your thing, you can also get wine or a non-alcoholic beverage). Our waiter brought us free samples of the first couple we asked about, which was nice and unnecessary given that they sell 4 oz. tasters. We ended up sharing a whole bunch of 4 oz. tasters, including one of the suggested flights, and a couple of 10 oz. goblets. You can basically mix and match whatever beers catch your fancy. The beers were excellent. I loved all three in the refreshing hoppy flight: the Fan Fare IPA, the Moe's(aic) Pale Ale, and the Fairies Wear Boots IPA. The It's a pHaze IPA was fantastic, the better of the two hazy IPAs we tried, though the Cool Kids wasn't bad, just a little more bitter than necessary. This was also the case with the Bye Bri Saison, I thought, though your mileage may vary. For a light beer, I'd recommend the banana-tasty Das Chefeweizen. I also enjoyed a few of the specialty beers: the Yeast Bound and Brown Ale, the Imperial Barrel Aged Stout, and the Mr. Mulligan's, a stellar triple Belgian ale. Viewpoint is also a full restaurant with very good food, including a kid's menu. Our kid ignored his sandwich in favor of the admittedly hard-to-resist fries, but it was a great grilled cheese, with plenty of melty yellow cheese and butter (my husband and I ate some when it was clear it would go to waste). I got a fish board to share with the other grown-ups, and this was a lovely spread of lox salmon, halibut dip, trout roe, pickled red onion, dill, capers, lemon, tartar sauce, and Ritz crackers (supposedly sea salt flatbread too, but they must've been out). The halibut dip was especially good, finished with those sparkly bursts of roe. I had the Korean steak sandwich for my entree and this was delicious, tender hunks of beef with sweet soy, red chili, papaya, black garlic aioli, and cucumber on a soft, crusty bun. It came with a choice of sides and I, too, got the french fries. This wasn't a stress-free lunch, so I'm glad it was at a brewery--my sons and I all napped in the car after we left. I'd love to go back to Viewpoint on another trip to San Diego. It's a prime spot for good food and beer, with or without children. read more

Viewpoint Brewing is a cool spot out past the Fairgrounds that makes for a good place to hang out with friends. Despite being a bit off the beaten path (really, it's in a dark and odd location lol), it is popular and lively on the weekends. The space itself is the main highlight of the brewery in my opinion. It's got good space for parties of a variety of sizes, and the outdoor seating has an interesting view of the surrounding nature and walking path. Bonus points for the individual heaters that are extremely effective and cozy!! The inside can get loud, but we spent a few hours out on the patio chatting and enjoying the evening.  The food fell pretty short for me, but it might have been what I ordered. I got the spaghetti squash pasta, and was served a hodgepodge of cooked spaghetti squash and zucchini with some tomatoes thrown in. Allegedly there was also mozzarella on top, but I couldn't taste the few sprinkles. The flavor was fine, but I also felt like I paid over $20 for a plate of random heated vegetables. I probably won't be doing that again. The drinks were okay as well, but for a brewing company nothing really stood out. Still overall decent, just very pricey for just okay. All in all, I'd be open to coming back to Viewpoint with some friends for a cool night!! read more

Great location, service and plenty of options for both food and beer! We arrived without a reservation for a party of 5 and were seated promptly on the partially enclosed (but warm) patio. The location is unbeatable, however if you choose to park in the lot, you are forced to valet (when we arrived we could have easily self parked as it was just after opening) which was a bummer. I think requiring valet after a certain time makes sense, but we were visiting so can't speak to normal traffic flow. $5 isn't break the bank- just annoying as we paid someone to pull in and out of the same spot. read more

The valet only parking is a pain. The "view" is basically looking at a random half dried "lagoon" surrounded by dirt and dead weeds. I mean it's probably not as terrible as I make it sound but it's not exactly Nobu Malibu. Having said all that I was mostly disappointed in the beer...which is what I went there for. I am a big fan of Viewpoint Brewing. I've been 2 or 3 times thusfar and have enjoyed my visit everytime. The location is quite unique as it's situated around the backside of the Del Mar Horse Track on an inlet of water from the ocean. Because of it's location, it's away from teh hustle and bustle of both the beach and the horsetrack's events and really feels like you step away from it all. The view is both a little different then you'd expect being just half a mile from the beach and beautiful. I especially like their outdoor seating area which has swings and has a walking path leading right by it. They are also dog freindly, which is a plus in my book. I have only been for dinner and the food has been tasty each time. They have basic American/Brewery type food and while the menu isn't super expansive, I still believe there is something for everyone. I am very much looking forward to coming back when the weather gets a little nicer during the summer for brunch! read more

It's a solid B. I loved the causal vibe and there's a nice marshy view from the back patio. And you can easily see if the 5 freeway is moving so you can time your departure! Service was nice enough, not super attentive, but I really appreciated that my server was very honest about what's good (thumbs down for arancini and veggie burger). I ended up with some very good house fries and a sort of good veggie plate. The plate had a generous serving of mushrooms, which is always a superior feature for me. But the texture of the farro was too runny, and the guajillo sauce was just unnecessary. And yes- the beer. There's a good selection of draught beers, and I liked the one with the longest name ever- bohemian raspberry coffee tart wheat. Definitely got my fix for something sour without too many coffee notes. Free parking in front, but it's tight. read more

It was ok experience for me. I was alone with my two small dogs so I just need a quick lunch. Didn't mind waiting for our table and seems like some two people tables outside available but I had to wait anyway. I was waiting for 10 min and they texted me my seat is available. When I came back to the reception, the lady escorted me and she was too busy to be nice also. And she was giving me the seat look to the water, the another waiter stopped her and whispered something. She turned me "I was gonna give you the table is no longer available" and she was looking around the table very corner with all used menu and plates and she said she will give me the table. So she cleaned up the mess and gave me the seat with no apology and seems not even like a table. I sighed. I understand there will be a birthday party around the table I was offered at the first. I don't really care but at least she could be nicer to say sorry. And still some tables near me with tow people can sit were available but they didn't want to give it to me. She also only gave me the digital menu with QR code and I see the ladies next to my seat got normal paper menu. I wish I could get the regular menu since I have to see menu scroll down and up several times with my phone. I waited the waiter another 7-8 min and finally he came. He was very nice but I think it's too much for waiting to get a just waiter... I got their recommendation beer since I almost gave up to see digital menu and I got a burrata toast with egg on top. Drink and food came not so fast but not so slow either so I don't complain. Burrata toast has unique sauce on top which I liked it. Toast itself was not great but ok Beer I honestly didn't like much. He came to check how I'm doing only once so his service was average but I know it's so busy place with less waiters. I understand. I didn't like they have a valet and not self parking and valet costs $3. I don't like valet but I'm too tired to go around to find parking spot so I used the valet. I might not recommend people here. Viewpoint is one of my favorite places to go with a friend you haven't seen in a while, a special occasion, or just a date night. Great atmosphere for even watching sports along/near the bar. Right near the racetracks, viewpoint overlooks the wetlands. They have a cute little outside area with swings where usually the kids are. They have boots with fire pits around the outside for the best view. The food is delicious - their burgers are one of my favorite with the bacon jam + their side salads are so delicious. The dressing was so so amazing. Their tacos are so delicious - fried or grilled. I always get 1 of each and always add parmesan fries. read more

Very cool space that is open to a patio under shades, with heat lamps and outdoor fireplaces on the tables, and the amazing open view of the surrounding area. We were brought in here by some friends who are locals, the mac and cheese was highly acclaimed and it is indeed worth it - worth even ordering two for a table of 7. The steak for steak frites was cooked well and truffle fries are always appreciated. The IPAs were awesome, the Hazy Life was our favorite, and the So Cal Sol IPA was also pretty good. Definitely would keep this one on our list to check out again, the space is worth it. read more

First time coming here. The Mac n cheese was amazing as were the chilaquiles. Chilaquiles could have been spicier but overall would absolutely have again. The Mac n cheese was perfectly creamy. The beer flight was alright. Parking is 3 dollars for valet or you walk over literally 20 yards and you can pay for parking (we did 6 dollars for two hours). So for those wary of covid you could spend the same amount (with tip) to park just a short distance away. Seating wise this feels like a hit or miss. Personally wanted to check this place out for the view. The best view are either the tables on the water or the wooden bar on the water. Tables would be nice but looks like there are only 3 or so. The outdoor bar was uncomfortably low. All other seating looks like not the best views of the water. All in all yummy food not the best drinks but willing to try again just won't go super out of my way unless I especially request one of the tables right on the edge for the view! read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate Mothers Day early. Was told the wait was 30 minutes but we only waited 10. That was a nice surprise. The apps are pretty big here so we decided to share a bunch instead of getting our own individual entree. We got the Ceviche, Mac N' Cheese, & Adobada Fries. Great food, great service, plus a great view of the lagoon. The only con is parking. $5 for Valet, street parking but eh, and then theres a dirt lot on the corner you have to pay per hour. read more

Visited Viewpoint Brewing for brunch on a Saturday morning. It's as busy as they say. Arrived just before noon and it was a 1 hour wait for first available. Overall it was worth it as we were seated on the outside rail. It was a little difficult to eat there since the rail was so low but the view made it worth it. The meatballs and truffle parm fries were delicious. The backyard burger was delicious as well. My man had one of the specials and didn't think it was anything impressive. My husband who's a beer lover is always on the hunt for a brewery that serves a good tall one, delicious food, and kid friendly as we're always with our 3 little ones! This hits the spot. A little off the beaten path and you get a unique experience with a view. It's right on the lagoon. Their outdoor dining area feels a lot like backyard eating. They have swings and a nice pathway to walk off the calories. We had the chicken and French toast where the French toast is more like a dense bread pudding. My husband who's a baker LOVED it, I however prefer my French toast light and fluffy. Kiddos had the famous Mac and cheese sans bread crumbs and they give it 2 thumbs up. Husband had the chilaquiles and the pork was surprisingly well flavored and not drenched in sauce. Beer was refreshing per my husband. 4.5 stars Still a really great place, but their menu has changed quite a bit since my last review. I had their octopus dish last week, and I have to say that if you like *spicy* this is a must order dish......absolutely delicious. Their Korean steak sandwich also warrants as big thumbs up for those that like some zing in their meals. I could take or leave the snap-peas: good, but didn't wow me. First time visiting View Point Brewery. I saw that this spot was on the "Top 13 Breweries in San Diego" list -- the beer was good - selection and taste. But the food was mediocre and really expensive for what you got. We ordered the beer battered fish tacos and the Korean steak sandwich. The fish tacos didn't have very much flavor and same for the Korean steak sandwich. There was no Korean flavor at all - it was pretty much just a steak sandwich - and it also had the pickles veggies, which weren't pickled at all. Food just didn't have much flavor at all. The service was also not that great. One person at our table unsuccessfully kept trying to get the attention of our server to get a table setting - not sure if the server was ignoring him or what - so he just ended up getting up and helped himself to a place setting. Our server saw him do this and she didn't seem too happy about it. I just want to also point out that the parking here is limited. Good luck finding a spot! They have their own lot where it's free to park, and then there's a small lot where you can pay for parking. Careful, they monitor the paid parking - we saw someone had a ticket on their window. On a positive note, we liked the location of this brewery and it is dog friendly. read more

Local born and raised, I wish I didn't have to write this but after 3 tries at viewpoint I will never be returning & will be making sure to send everyone that asks for recs to Monarch, Fidel's, Sbicca, or literally anywhere but here. Have you ever been to a restaurant where the staff is so irritated you're there even though the place is dead and you'd think they'd be happy for some business? You're in luck because this place will ruin your night and make you never want to eat out again. The parking and location is its own issue. The whole staff is horrible. Couldn't get help even though the place was dead on a cold Wednesday at the 6pm dinner rush. There were open booths with warm fire pits & we asked to sit there. "Sorry no I'm saving those in case a big party comes in". All 6 of them? There's no one here. It's a Wednesday. I understand the hostess is 16 and takes her job way too seriously but that's a management issue. I couldn't get ANY of the staff to help and the hostess not being able to handle a simple request reflects upward. It felt like the staff was avoiding the customers and trying to pawn jobs off out of sheer laziness. Made the atmosphere incredibly unenjoyable and uncomfortable dare I say UNWELCOMING. Let's start with the atrocious parking situation. This place is smashed into the most inconvenient, unsafe, hazardous spot with a truly dangerous gravel driveway, road and even the parking lot is dangerous. Del Mar Auto is my mechanic... I don't even like walking down into that area where they've decided to put the front door. It's truly industrial and not for pedestrians let alone a restaurant entrance. If you are a human who likes to walk without worrying about dying, stepping on uneven potholes, motor oil, etc don't come here. The parking meters are $4/hour. Rip off. You have to trek through the uneven gravel to the tiny UNLIT pay station that's next to the road. I actually tripped over the janky raised lines for the handicap they somehow figured was safer. How anyone on wheels actually gets over that tripping hazard speed bump I don't know. It's even complete with the bolts sticking up so you can trip and stub your toe. Oh and rest assured you'll be behind someone trying to figure out the pay system since there's only one and it's confusing so have fun standing by the road as you freeze to death. For the ambiance ... I don't know I walked in to a cold cement floor full of empty tables and the only place that looked inviting and might be okay is the fire pit booths. No one wants to sit on high tops with low backs. Ouch! Didn't like it when I was 22... don't like it now that I'm in my 30s... you're going to make my parents and grandparents sit on those? Awful. So unaccommodating and you can tell a restaurant is run poorly if the staff don't offer an alternative or suggest a solution. Whether that's seating, food they don't have or beers that are out... Love this spot so much. Sat at the bar and had a great time chatting with the chef who gave us some fantastic desserts. More recently visited with a larger party and was greeted at our seats by the GM serving us water. Thought it was great to see a GM helping out his staff on a busy night plus he was very friendly and chipper. Love the beer and the food is always super tasty. Arrived for early dinner and was promptly seated. The restaurant is essentially open air and was already a bit chilly as you are basically sitting outside. Our server was friendly and engaging. However, the music was so loud it made it difficult to hear what the server was saying as well as him hearing us. Caesar salad was good. Pasta dish was a bit too al dente. Meatballs were okay. I loved the brunch at Viewpoint! First let's talk about the vibe of this spot. It's off the main path a little bit which makes it feel private. You get stunning views and a great breeze. You can even get a little people watching from people (and their dogs!) using the trail behind the brewery. I ordered a flight including the Belgian Blonde, Big Hat Blonde, Das Chefeweizen. Each were great and I'd definitely come back and branch out of my comfort zone a little more. My meal was the French Toast- YUM! It was more like bread pudding which was a nice surprise. A HUGE shoutout to Freddie who came to our rescue!!! What a wonderful, caring human being. We were getting a little frustrated with the wait time after an hour, with two little kids who were getting antsy and cold and he basically asked us how he could help, took our orders before we were seated so the food would arrive by the time we sat. He was super chill and nice and was very accommodating with whatever he could do and also checked on us a few times after even though he wasn't our official server once we were seated. Food was fresh and good quality and our own server was also very nice. I just wish the wait times weren't so long. But still give 5 starts all because of Freddie!!! read more

When I went to get my car I was handed the keys and told to walk across the parking lot to my car (which wasn't locked) and then asked to pay. The valet complained to me that I did not leave a tip. My first time here this evening and I'll definitely be back. Love the open space and how it's hidden in a warehouse-looking area. Heat lamps and the tables with fireplaces are a nice touch for ambience. It overlooks the lagoon leading to the ocean and I can't wait to come back to enjoy it at sunset. Food is great - I shared the Mac-n-cheese with chorizo, and got the kale salad with the glorious goat cheese croquette (see picture for gloriousness). That, paired with a Chardonnay was plenty enough for me. My cousin got the chicken schnitzel. Texture was perfectly crunchy on outside, juicy on inside. Totally recommend. While not exactly known for their beer, their brewpub basically sits on the San Dieguito Lagoon making it the perfect hang out spot with all the best views. Plus, the brewpub is open aired and pretty much a giant outdoor patio, so they do very much welcome dogs. I posted up at the bar and received quick and easy service there. Shareables encompass some Spanish tapas with main entrees ranging from fresh Baja seafood to your casual pub burger. The Ceviche for $20 came loaded with fresh ingredients and protein. The chips seemed to be made in-house and are plentiful enough but they did offer more, if needed. It is easy to miss so do pay attention to your GPS to know where to turn off Jimmy Durante and into the parking lot with one-way entrance and exit. They do ask that you wait to be seated by the hostess stand when you walk in. Food and beer are a perfect combo at this quintessential San Diego brewpub. read more
