Tucked away in an industrial area of Del Mar you'll find a pretty interesting intersection of a brewery, restaurant and scenic views combined to create an eclectic ambiance of industrial vibes mashed up with excellent beer and great food. The parking can be a little rough as it seems to be shared with an automobile repair shop. That said, once you walk in the facility opens up to great outdoor views. Service is spot on and friendly. The beer selection is vast and frankly some of the best I've tasted. The food was also very good. One normally doesn't consider food to be the primary driver to breweries but in this case it's pretty damn good. Honestly, this place is a trifecta of food, service and ambiance topped off by excellent beer! I had high hopes for this place as the reviews are really good! It was EXTREMELY loud, which i understand is out of there control, but then they seated us as a table with another couple, even though there we plenty of open seats. It was my wife, myself and our 9 month old, but i guess we only counted as two. We requested to move seats to a slightly less noicy area, where i was seated at some barstools outside. Cool! Except, there was a bicycle on the othet side of my table, where the Handel bar covered my eating area. I literally had to eat around a bicycle handel. Wtf?!....i got enough going on with an infant, now i have to eat around someones bicycle, cool. We ordered a burger and a flat iron steak. The burger literally tasted like a thicker version of an animal style in and out burger. Which is delicious....but significantly more expensive. I asked for a salad as my side, and that was the worst. It was old cabbage and the worst dressing i had ever tasted. My cabbage was the type of cabbage yiu have in your fridge for a week or so, and its between the lines of "id this too old to eat or not" with its yellow/brown color. That was my experience. No toppings....just old cabbage and a horrible dressing. Guess thats what we call a salad these days. The cast iron steak was alright at best. The sauce they used tasked like a mixture of store bought BBQ sauce, and someone poores a beer in the mix and stirred it up. While i do like the taste of beer, it would had been nice to taste the steak. Its comparable to when you add a ton of ketchup to something to cover the taste, except this was BBQ sauce on a steak. They have a good variety of beer, which my husband loved and he said his burger was good, so that's the good part. I ordered the chicken schnitzel, which I've ordered at other restaurants and loved, but the one here came out overcooked and dry. I also had to wait for my meal about 15-20 minutes after everyone in my party was served. I don't know what happened because our server never communicated with me about my meal. I think maybe it sat in the kitchen and when our waiter was reminded by husband about my meal, it had to be reheated, thus the dry, overcooked and tasteless chicken schnitzel. Beautiful spot to catch a sunset and enjoy some delicious food and good vibes. We were in a large group of about 15 people who came to celebrate a good friends birthday here. It's the perfect spot to bring a large group! You can laugh and be as loud as you want hehe. The food was great and hearty. The mac and cheese was a masterpiece. This cute indoor/outdoor brewery is a great spot along the beautiful salt marches. The staff and management are so friendly and welcoming. Seating is spacious both inside and on the patio. The food items on the menu have great options for meat lovers and vegans. We had several appetizers with our beer. Each appetizer from roasted cauliflower to shrimp taco were fantastic! The beer here is first rate and we loved e everyone we tried. They have two lighter but flavorful beers called rice And easy- a rice beer. And Americana beer. We were impressed with Viewpoint from our very first visit and keep coming back. We had a reservation but it was a really busy night so we sat outside for a bit, waiting to be seated. The General Manager (Kyle) handed out cans of beer during the backlog - and it was really good beer too! People definitely come for the ambiance. The whole restaurant is open on one side with a pretty view of the marsh. There are fire pits and games, plus a small bar inside. It's good for groups. Dogs are welcome too! First time here and the experience was fantastic! We all know the importance of first impressions and View Point nailed it for me on this one. Other than a packed parking lot, there wasn't much to negatively say which that really isn't a knock on them since I get it...this is a pretty popular venue so a full lot is expected. There's overflow parking in a gravel lot just steps away where you pay at the pay station/stand so that solves that problem. As for the food, I can only speak for the super satisfying Backyard Burger. A hefty, juicy and flavorful patty smothered with melted american cheese provides gloriousness in every bite. The burger to patty ratio is also just to my liking. Even the fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly so you can most definitely bet I cleaned the plate completely. That was semi-tough to do given the 3 cold brews I had ingested prior but with a dish as tasty as that...getting to the finish line wasn't impossible :) The waitress was very attentive and patient as folks in my party struggled with their indecisiveness but a genuine smile and friendly attitude was maintained throughout the dining experience. Perfect tucked away location that makes going there a semi private experience. This brewery is new to me as I am 'back' and rediscovering places. I did not even know the soft hiking trail that ends at the Viewpoint Brewing before, so the whole experience of 'hiking + beer' was awesome. My friends shared several appetizers and everything was very tasty. This brewery has a cool vibe to it and is super spacious, seems to be very familiar, like everyone knows each other. Viewpoint brewing is tucked away near some completely different style commercial buildings in the area. Although the parking lot is small, there is a Public lot a very short walk away that we utilized and it was easy to find a space there. It was easy to access and navigate with our stroller which was very helpful. We went on a pretty busy Friday night, but were able to get seated right away. My friends ordered the Mac n cheese and added pork, which the Mac was awesome just felt the pork didn't add much flavor to the dish. I ended up getting a mushroom burger and my husband a chicken sandwich. We both enjoyed our meals. I especially liked mine! He got a side salad and wasn't a fan of the vinaigrette they had, but I got fries as my side which were good. I tried the Hibiscus Ginger Beer which was brewed locally in San Diego and nonalcoholic. It was pretty good, something different which was nice. I appreciate they also have kombucha. I am currently breastfeeding so I didn't feel like drinking, otherwise I would have had a hard time deciding on their brews. There were a lot of interesting beer options from the brewery! Our service was on top of it and very friendly the whole visit. Everyone was very respectful and kind about us having our baby there. They are dog friendly here, too! First and foremost, I mentioned that "I am not a beer drinker" but the waitress swayed me to a sour that is super light and she herself likes it. I went for one of those! The kitchen menu had a variety of items to chose from. Passion Fruit, Orange, Guava (sour) - not listed on their drinks menu. To my Surprise, I really liked this sour. It was more light and refreshing than sour in my opinion. Easy to drink, crisp, with a fruit flavor pallet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Backyard burger ($18) - Request medium well! Came with American Cheese, Lettuce, tomato, onion and burger sauce. It definitely reminded me of a backyard burger, something you'd cook at home in your backyard bbq grill. The burger was basic, big, and good. Not the best burger I had but a regular "good" burger. Bun was fair, patty was big, fixings were fresh. The burger stack presentation was nice but in my opinion it was "top heavy". What I mean by that, it's when you cut the burger in half and it doesn't stay together, hard to hold because everything falls apart, because the stack is top heavy and not balanced or nothing that binds it together and the top half is heavier than the bottom half. I ended up eating my burger with a fork and knife just to be able to consume all parts in a bite. Little too much onion and tomatoes I had plucked them out. I'd order this again if I was here and craving meat. FRIES. The fries that came with the burger were yummy. Nicely fried! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Side note, there was a charred mini broccoli piece that was with my fries. I saw they offered charred broccoli on the menu. Went with my two best friends and we had a phenomenal waiter named Freddy. Really took care of us. I wasn't drinking that evening so he was nice enough to give me a non-alcoholic "taster". Thoughtful and sweet. He alone is 5 stars but my rating is on the food. It's not amazing but it's good. We ordered a variety of apps. Broccolini, meatballs, arancini, parm truffle fries, pork lettuce wraps and chicken sando. Broccolini was charred mini broccoli, tasted a little too charred but the black garlic aioli (fantastic) masked that. Meatballs were basic, marinara was bland. Pork lettuce wraps were a hit, I only tasted the meat and it was juicy and flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the Arancini, really mushy inside and the meat didn't have a distinct flavor to it. Parm fries were great, if you had them elsewhere these ones fit the description. My chicken sando was great, got it grilled. It came with pickled onions, black garlic aioli and basic fixings. I would order it again. The view is wonderful. Tons of alcohol to choose from. It's a great happy hour spot, atmosphere is vibrant. A friend recommended this place so we wanted to give it a try. The food was good it's a limited menu but the chef did make some exceptions due to my allergies. The nice thing is they did have options outside of beer. Service was exceptional. Now the cons are due to location parking is limited so we choose to park in valet. This is not always an option if the tiny lot is full. It's in Del Mar so be careful if you park near the trail as they do ticket. We arrived about 5:10 PM on a Saturday and couldn't find parking. I couldn't imagine what it would be like at busier time. The parking lot is too small for the venue and no parking is allowed on the street. Eventually someone left and we got a space - one that was so tight we could barely get out of the car. (Suggestion to owners - put a sign at the exit suggesting where to find more parking). Although we had made reservations for two in the dining area, we had to sit at a high top in the bar. It appears all the tables are large and maybe you would have to share with another party. The some of the tables on the outer edges had little open fireplaces in the center of the table - which looked nice. It was a cool overcast day and the open restaurant was cool (temperature). The restaurant was loud. The chairs were rather uncomfortable. The food offerings were varied on a limited menu. Our server was helpful and our food came out fast. We had the grilled chicken sandwich and opted for an upgraded salad side (Greek-inspired) and the burger with a side salad. The chicken sandwich was good but the burger was average. The side salad was nice greens alone with dressing. We sampled four different IPAs. They were ok, but not as good as some other local breweries. The view and atmosphere is spectacular here. The gripes I have, however, supercede these. Service - okay at best and negligent at worst. Staff seemed more concerned about bussing than ensuring customer orders were taken in. Time from the order going in to receiving was incredibly quick, but it seemed like the few staff actually taking orders were unattenetive. Food - overpriced and unoriginal, to be frank. Friend and I split the charred broccoli and the adovado fries. Light char and pungent sauce on the broccoli was tasty but not worth the value. Fries were not crisp and could not stand up to the flavorful sauce and sadly under-shredded pork. The final bail was the burger of the month, a glorified spicy burger with run of the mill ingredients to spice things up and a plain, decently seasoned patty. Beer - honestly the reason an entire extra star is gone. You're a brewery. In SoCal. In the 21st century. Baseline you should have good beer. You keep a star for having good beer. But the Feelin Swell I had tasted like it had undertones of nuts. Weird that an IPA that boasts tropical and pineapple notes has nuts. I can't believe I've never been here before! The location of Viewpoint is a bit tucked away, overlooking the San Dieguito River in Del Mar. Amazing service and great beer! I recommend getting a flight if it's your first time (you can get a flight of 3 or 5). I would also make a reservation if you're going on a weekend because it was definitely packed and give yourself enough time to grab a parking spot in their lot. They have a huuuge outdoor patio which was perfect even for a larger party of 4-5 people in these covid times. They're also dog friendly which was so awesome because this location isn't too far from Dog Beach so plenty of cute pups to see. While we didn't try any of their main food items, the truffle fries were really good! They have a really nice collection of beers ranging from sours & IPAs to stouts. Our server, whom I do not recall the name of, was a very cheerful, peppy guy with excellent people skills. He was wearing lederhosen which was quite appropriate considering it was Oktoberfest Season and it was a beer joint. We enjoyed our beers and moved right along. Viewpoint has become a regular piece of our brunch rotation. We love to take our dog to Del Mar dog beach and then head over to Viewpoint for brunch with mimosas and beers. My wife loves their breakfast sandwich. They have a great black garlic aioli and they always get her order right customizations and all. I like to mix it up and try lots of new dishes. Some of my favorites are the Korean steak sandwich, the chorizo tacos, and the chilaquiles. It's truly a great mix of good eats, views and drinks. Tip is to make a reservation before heading in and also parking can be a bit of a hassle. If you don't wanna fret they have a valet that's a reasonable 3 bucks. Sometimes if you drive down the road a short distance there is parking for about 7 cars between a roadside lot and a small dirt lot. read more

Perhaps it didn't help that I came on a cloudy day, hence no views but the whole restaurant was unclean and the food was subpar given the prices. There were only three free parking spots near the trailhead. Otherwise, there was paid parking at the nearby dirt lot and $5 valet in front of the restaurant. It was quite crowded at 5 despite not having a happy hour so a reservation is highly recommended. Despite being a brewery, they were very kid and pet friendly. There was a stench and swarm of flies invading the patio so beware of the sticky tables outside. Service was very slow and our entire dining experience took over 2 hours. While our server was friendly, no one came by to provide utensils and plates nor clean our finished cups or dishes. Beer came out quickly but it was hard to wave anyone down. =ORDERED= Our party ordered either flights of 3 or 5 from the revolving list of beers. Each choice was priced around $4-5 and our personal favorites were the guest cider and sour. *Hoppy Flight: the $9 preset flight with moesiac, penitent, and slay all day. The slay all day was my favorite while I liked penitent the least. Overall a good sampler if you don't know what to pick. *Meat Flatbread: had an incredibly runny and I flavorful tomato sauce. Couldn't pick up a slice without everything sliding off and making a mess. The caramelized onions were the best part and were cooked well. Calandras added some saltiness but overall the dish was bland. *Korean Steak Sandwich: the steak had a texture that resembled sausage. Incredibly dry and the sandwich screamed for sauce to hold together the strange chunks. The so called black garlic aioli and sweet soy were non existent and there wasn't any depth in flavor. Only the slaw had a satisfying acidity and bite. Came with fries, truffle fries, or salad. The truffle fries had strong earthiness and I would get those again. Given the lackluster experience, I definitely wouldn't return for the overpriced food and parking. The vast beer selection was the only redeemable aspect. If that's worth coming here, make sure to carpool and anticipate spotty service with tons of flies pestering you. read more

I personally had the backyard burger with salad and it was perfectly cooked at medium. Finally made it in. This isn't a place for locals. Like many such establishments on the coast, they get by on tourists and people from inland on a day out so they don't have to sustain repeat custom. The view alone makes this place one of the best breweries I've ever visited. Food was also delicious. My wife and I decided to split both the Backyard Burger and the Chicken Sandwich. The burger patty was huge, and it was served with truffle fries which were a great addition. The Chicken Sandwich came with a black garlic aioli sauce which had a nice kick to it. We ordered this sandwich with their house salad which was tossed in their champagne vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was delicious and came with small tiny chunks of apple. Food: Pretty good food relative to other gastropubs. The tri-tip cheesesteak with mozzarella, peppers, and onions was juicy and tender, favorite of the two sandwiches we tried. The chicken sandwich with provolone, cilantro, and picketed onion was ordinary; we needed hot sauce to make it palatable. The fries were crisp, while the salad was appropriately dressed. The beer we tried were all good. We recommend the amber ale, hazy IPA, and Belgian blonde, depending on your preference. Service: We had a reservation, yet had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The parking was a bit difficult, granted it was a Friday night. Our server was nice and helpful. She brought us everything we needed to enjoy our meal and drinks. Atmosphere: The place was packed, people chatting and having a good time all around. Various games were playing on the screens if one wanted to watch instead of chat.
