I see everyone talking about the breakfast tacos and I agree they are good. The supers are filled with eggs, refried beans, cheese, Potatoes (just cheap frozen French fries) and your choice of meat. However my favorite is the Chicarron and egg tacos!! Not sure how they cook them but my gawd they are crunchy on the out side and just lusciously tender and juicy on the inside. Not to mention that nice butter flavor on the backside...mmmmmm!! So lets talk about what really got me hooked on Villa Acros and that's the Picadillo and the Guisado tacos. I have had them with and with out beans and can eat about six of these bad boys!!! The Picadillo, for those who don't know, is a mixture of ground meat, onions, tomato, green bell peppers and potato (real potato in this case). These are some of the best Picadillo tacos I have had. It also helps that I love their green salsa and use one container for each taco. The Guisado tacos are just as good, tender and juicy. I also use a container of green salsa on these. If you haven't noticed I like their green salsa. It has a wonderfully great flavor and the right amount of heat. The only thing that upsets me is as of late they have gone up on prices. I started going here in about 2004 and then I believe most tacos were $1.85 - $2.50. I now believe its closer to $2.50 - $3.85, all in all a great place and the folks (truly family owned and run) are great!!! read more

10:00 Sunday morning. My mission: Start my lazy Sunday with some kick ass tacos that are Yelp'd and Yelp'd and Yelp'd about. Go back to bed. Unfortunately a monkey wrench was thrown into my plan. My tacos did not kick ass. I ordered a super taco, the star of many other reviews, and a carne guisada taco. The tortillas were the highlight of my meal. They were nice and thick and fairly tasty. The super taco was average - there was nothing "special" about it, although they did a good job on the beans, but nothing else was memorable. The carne guisada was bad though, really bad, some of the worst I've ever had. The meat was so tough while the gravy was as thin as water. I ended up with a few pieces of dry, leathery meat in a soggy tortilla. Bleh. I was also excited about the fresh limeade mentioned in another review. I love fresh limeade! But they don't have fresh limeade. They had no idea what I was talking about, said they've never had fresh limeade. They had fresh tea. Or bottled lemonade. But no fresh limeade. I found the prices appropriate, but wouldn't put them on a cheap eats list. At $3 for a super taco, that's about double the price of most other breakfast tacos. There's a lot packed in, so I think it's fair, but not cheap. $2.50 for the carne guisada is about average. I can overlook all the other downsides - no AC, small dining area, cash only - if the food is out of this world, but I have no incentive to return. I'm actually really bummed because I had such high hopes for this place. At least my bed was welcoming. read more

the breakfast tacos at villa arcos really are the best in town. that prestigious title is not given lightly; i waited until my sixth visit to write a review, but there's really no comparison. it's the tortillas; nobody else pulls off flour tortillas as well without sacrificing all important taco-thenticity. i can't figure out how they do it, but they do. there is a giant wooden wall for a menu. i recommend picking something at random and eating it. i havent tried anything here that i did not love, but you'll never go wrong with breakfast. one taco of any kind with beans will hold you over for at least 10 hours. note, the place is cash only, and has strange hours of operation. its always packed on weekends, and most of their specialties (chicharron tacos, menudo) sell out early. make sure to get the green salsa - it cures most known ailments, but specifically, it cures your tongue of not being on fire. read more

Their food is delicious, the service is mediocre - but expect to wait, sometimes an extremely long time, for your order. I try to give places the benefit of the doubt with a "three strikes you're out" policy. I know businesses have off days and other problems, so I can't automatically fault them on the first problem that arises. But sadly, today was the third strike for Villa Arcos. The ONLY reason they get 3 stars is because I love their tacos. I had to dock 2 stars for their service, or lack thereof. To preface, I have been going to Villa Arcos every Friday morning since my job moved over to EaDo at the beginning of August. I usually get tacos for myself and two of my co-workers. Their tacos are, by far, way better than anything Brother's churns out. In fact, I find it hard to stomach Brother's now that I've found Villa Arcos. I know that everything is homemade and their food is delicious, so waiting 20-30 minutes for an order isn't a problem, but waiting 45 minutes to an hour for 4 basic breakfast tacos is a bit much. It all started about a 5 weeks ago when I walked in on a Friday morning at 6:40 AM. When I walked in, I waited in a 5-10 minute line, only to find out that people who had previously ordered were already reaching the 40 minute wait mark for their food. Needless to say, I didn't place an order this time, chalked it up to experience, and started calling in my order around 6:20 AM so it would be ready when I got there. When calling in an order after 6:20 AM, be prepared for the phone to go to VM until you actually arrive at the restaurant. Sometimes, if you're lucky, someone will answer on the first ring or you'll get a call back, but don't hold your breath. Calling before 6:20 AM though, you'll usually get someone within the first 2 rings and they'll quickly take your order. Last week, I called my order in at 6:20 AM: 4 tacos - 2 bacon and bean, 1 bacon and egg, 1 chorizo, potato, beans, and egg. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Easy enough, right. NOPE. I walked in at 6:40 AM, paid, and asked if my order was ready. The cashier told me it wasn't ready yet and walked off to do other things. She didn't check the pending orders or the hot box that they store orders in, she just went on about her business. About 15 minutes later, she walks over to the box, which nothing had been put in since I walked in by the way, pulls out a bag and calls my name. I had just waited an extra 15 minutes for my order because she was too busy to check and see if it was ready. Fine. I had some extra time before work and I made a mental note to make sure to check the pending orders myself next time because they write them on bags and leave the bags hanging in the prep area in view of the counter. Today, I called in my order at 6:20 AM: same order - 4 tacos - 2 bacon and bean, 1 bacon and egg, 1 chorizo, potato, beans, and egg. The woman on the phone told me it would be a 15-20 minute wait. Perfect. I'll give them 30 just in case. I walk in around 6:40 AM and there are 2 people in line in front of me. I pay, and notice my order still hanging in the prep-area. Fine. I've got about 20 minutes before I have to be at work, and I settled for a 30 minute wait when I called. 6:55 AM, the first person who was in line when I arrived got their taco. My bag was still hanging in the prep-area. I asked how much longer it would be because I had already waited 35 minutes, and the cashier asked me to wait another 15-20 minutes, but they couldn't guarantee a time. They wanted me to wait almost an hour for 4 tacos that I called in and ordered 35 minutes before. I told her I couldn't wait because I had to be at work, so she offered me a refund. No sincere apology. No offer to go ahead and make my order right away. When I stated that it was frustrating that I called my order in and someone who walked in got their order first, I was told that someone else had walked in and ordered 60 tacos after my call in order, so they had to work that order first. And then she said that one of the workers had called in, so they were short staffed and too busy. She handed me a cash refund with a disingenuous "sorry". The only saving grace was that she did hand me a business card for $5 off my next order, which would have been great, except that I now have no intention of returning there any time soon. This is the second time I've had to come to work and tell my co-workers that I wasn't able to get them breakfast because Villa Arcos doesn't have it together that day, which makes me feel bad that I can't deliver something I promised to my co-workers. I don't know if Villa Arcos needs more staff, more organization, or just better service in general, but something needs to be done to offer a better experience for their customers. IF, and that's a big if at this juncture, I decide to return to Villa Arcos at any point, I will update this review to see if anything has improved. read more

This place has awesome breakfast tacos! I got some to-go for my family, because we were helping my sister move. They accept card, which is always a plus for someone like me, who never carries cash. There isn't much parking, so you'll have to keep a lookout for street parking. I ordered potato/egg, bacon/potato, bean/egg tacos. They have really good flavor, and the tortillas are homemade. A breakfast taco is a hard thing to get excited about, but Villa Arco changed that. They are hard to described in contrast to what you are normally served. Let me just try it this way, most breakfast tacos are like breakfast wrapped in a moist piece of cardboard. Villa Arco's are different in every respect. A perfectly wrapped portion of common ingredients in a homemade tortilla that is second to none! We actually drive from Friendswood to Villa Arco only to get a couple of tacos (with an occasional return passenger of tamales). It was her mother's taco stand that is now run by the daughter and son of a very respected second ward family who is politically active. It takes a long time, seating is on a screened in porch and parking is mostly on the street. Interestingly, its not uncommon to see Benz, Bentleys, BMWs, Ferarri's and Porches parked out front. The entire experience was a disappoint. Never been there before I asked the kid behind the counter how big the breakfast tacos were and I was told. "Their like, um, kinda big...." Whatever I'll come back and order another if I need to. The food it self was good. But not great like I was expecting. The kitchen was really slow. And when I went to order a second taco, she said the kitchen was closed. I realize you close at a set time. But you have a customer I front of you wanting to spend money. More money.... I was already there, had been for half an hour! What harm would it do to slap together one more freakin taco and take my money? Wouldn't recommend and never going back. The breakfast tacos are awesome. If you are getting coffee that creamer selection is not good. It is the plain cheap powder kind. I loved the tamales. They take cash only unless you want to be charged extra. Most of the time the service is fast but I have seen them understaffed and backed up. Its a real shame this place has excellent homemade tacos, but not quite worth a 2 hour wait. Each time I visit this hole in the fucking wall it takes upward of 45 minutes for 4 measly tacos. OK, so I love Villa Arcos! The parking is insane on the weekends, and it IS stuffy due lack of a/c; however, their food is insane. I love the egg & chicharron tacos only sold on the the weekends. Their tacos are super stuffed and don't even cost $3; I think they run somewhere around $1.50-$2.50 at most. The tortillas are soft and delicious and totally remind me of the days when my mom used to make them by hand. I have stopped on my way to work in the morning (which is super early) and find I don't have a problem parking right in front. They also sell pretty good tamales here as well. This is definitely a great taco spot; and in my personal opinion, better than Brothers because it's not sitting over hot steamy water (lol) read more

Came by to check out the chorizo tacos a friend was raving about. And I must say they were pretty darn good! Flour torilla were homemade, nice and soft. Tacos were overflowing with egg and chorizo. We also ordered the chicharon (pork belly) which was actually fried to a nice crisp. Which is hard to find most places cook it till soft with a sauce. Staff was super friendly and place was spotless. This place is pretty legit. Great tortillas. I got a bacon egg bean and cheese taco-- my staple at any taco spot. I love a mom and pop taco dive. I moved back to the Eastwood area a few months ago & decided to finally get around to trying out some eateries I had bookmarked on here. After my workout today, I decided to try out Villa Arcos. It was still breakfast/brunch time, but I really wanted some crispy beef tacos with rice and beans. Upon entering, I was kinda surprised how small the place was and how packed it was. Definitely a good sign! I ordered to go and only waited a few minutes before my order was ready. The staff were super friendly and sweet. I got home, popped open the container, took a bite and......DAMN!! So good!! The shells were fresh and crunchy and the meat had great seasoning. The beans & rice actually had flavor! Not just popped from a can somewhere!! I seriously thought about going back for another order, lol! I will definitely be going back to try out some breakfast tacos & more lunch dishes.
