I love mexican food. And this restaurant is one of my favorites to go to, to satisfy my cravings. They are decently priced as well. Being in Belltown and all. I always order their carne asada. And their wet burrito too. Their food is really good. I love their chips, salsa and guac too! They are generous with their carne asada dish too. They usually never forget to bring out my tortillas along with my carne asada, which I can appreciate. They are also very fast and quick when it comes to bringing me salsa, chips and mmm guac! They are very good for groups!!! They can fit big groups in there and take reservations. They are really nice folks. Definitely not authentic Mexican food in any way. After writing the above review, I get a Yelp "compliment" from a worker at the restaurant that asks why I wrote what I wrote and that she picked up empty plates from our table. Well, when you pay 60 bucks, are hungry, and visiting from Los Angeles, you don't have a choice but to eat what you get. The restaurant itself is sort of small, and with only 4 other tables seated (fairly empty), we were still told to wait. Some couple came in but no one greeted them so they ditched. Our water cup came with lipstick stains and no straws. When we were sat down, we saw a pretty decent menu. No free chips and salsa sadly. When we ordered it, they refilled it but didn't mention there was a fee for that. It was good but soo small. The burritos were on the plain side, but a nice portion. At first I was wary because the chips and salsa weren't complementary, but as soon as I picked up a chip, I realized why: they were freshly made! I ordered a regular burrito with carne asada and was more than pleased. It was sizeable and the perfect amount of spicy. Two other members of my party ordered pollo asada (chicken) and my sister, a vegetarian, said it best, "I haven't considered eating chicken in a long time, but that makes me consider it!" I've had very good experiences for lunch at Villa Escondida. The service is very fast for the lunch rush and very friendly as well. I usually order the veggie tostadas which are my favorite, they are not too heavy for lunch and taste very fresh and delicious. I have also had the veggie quesadilla which was okay, a little on the greasy side. If you ask them for the special "extra spicy" salsa they will bring you out a little cup of house made spicy salsa. My chips were so hot when they came out I was in love immediately. I got the vegetarian Chile releno de queso. It's with a jalapeño. It's spicy and extremely delicious. Found this spot while on a hunt for the ultimate comfort food, pozole, and was not disappointed. The rich broth, tender pork, and crisp cabbage/raddish complement each other perfectly. Their salsa is beautifully balanced, with a great smoky taste and plenty of capsaicin to get the endorphins flowing. We came across this place as we were traveling with our kids and the first place we stopped at curtly told us that they only served people 21 and over. I got a steak burrito and my wife got the pork taco's. Everything was very good. We also got the quac with chips which I would not get again as it was a fairly small portion for the $. The waiter was great (son of the owner?). Very attentive and was exceedingly kind to our son with special needs, joking with him about how many seconds it took to bring our drinks. My co-workers and I decided to go here on Cinco De Mayo. We previously called to see if they had Happy Hour on the day we were planning to go. They confirmed that they would have it on that day. Fast forward to May 5th after ordering some food and drinks from the happy hour menu we see our receipts and realize we weren't charged the Happy Hour prices. When we asked about it they told us they weren't doing it on this day. The staff was cold and unfriendly with the exception of one guy. When I walked in, there was one girl who worked there on the wait-staff who literally stared at me right in my eyes for a full 5 seconds. I said hello and she just turned away. No hello, no warmth, no greeting, just rude. They should have told us before we ordered, that they wouldn't be having happy hour when they know they have it on the days they are open. I asked the waitress if they had 1800 Tequila, but the server did not even know what was. Again, I am not a tequila snob by any means. I honestly just didn't want a hang over the next day, so I wanted to make sure I had good quality tequila. However, she did not know any tequilas and simply brought me the well tequila. The server was very sweet and did the best she could, but she was simply uneducated about their liquor (not her fault!!). Please do yourself a favor and go to any other Mexican restaurant in Seattle or the state of Washington. I have no idea how this place even stays in business. The chile relleno is literally a Jalapeño. The smallest chille renlleno I've ever had and made with the wrong pepper. The menu states it's a Jalapeño so I made sure to ask if it was a small Jalapeño and I was told it wasn't. I'm from southern California and my significantly better half is of Mexican decent. Plus I'm a foodie which means my palate is better than yours. Putting this all together means I know good mexican food. We went to Villa Escondida with 3 generations of Latinas for dinner after a day in Seattle. The salsa was decent, but the chips really shone. The food was all good and fairly authentic, but it all felt just a touch under seasoned--with the exception of my chile relleno, which was full of jalapeño seeds. The meat and veggies that it was stuffed with were completely obliterated by the heat from the amount of seeds in there. We had both the white rice and mexican rice, and they both tasted just a hair bland. The black beans can be described similarly. The pozole here doesn't even come close to the pozole at Taqueria Los Parados in Tacoma. Wide selection of Mexican beers and a good selection of cocktails. Overall it was above average food at amazing prices--especially for Seattle. I would not venture to say that this is the best Mexican food I have had in the PNW. That honor still goes to El Sabor in Tacoma. But with that said I would definitely come back here and give it another shot, especially if I were in the downtown / belltown area. read more

I'm not sure if I'd come back here again. One reason would be because they don't have frozen margaritas, only on the rocks, secondly they don't do chicken fajitas, so the way they cook the meat is flavorless and tastes boiled. I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe they have other good items besides chicken tacos, I'm not for certain. But my first visit didn't leave me impressed and what I had didn't match the reviews they have.
