As my pizza journey continues.... We hit Villa Italia Saturday night to see what we can see. Buffalo Chicken is always a must for the kids. I got the Penne Vodka pizza and a meatball parm hero. Buffalo Chicken pie was average. I felt it was a little dry. Needed a boost of ranch. Gotta have the ranch. Penne Vodka pizza was excellent. Very tasty and the pie was not too floppy. It's hard to find a good meatball parm... but I found one. Meatballs were very good and the sauce was excellent. My oldest son got an Italian hero... word of advice.. large is about 3 feet long. Hahahaha. Half is good for one person and even then some.

In a town with plenty of pizzerias and Italian restaurants this is a good option. Good pies and fairly priced. Good service. Nice cozy seating. Parking on street or in back lot.

Guy seemed overwhelmed and reluctantly took my order. I showed up 30 min later and no one had any record of my order. I recognized the guy's voice and told him he took my order. He was pissed and got into a shouting match with me with 3 other customers around. He eventually apologized and offered a free side of meatballs and spaghetti (don't order that btw, super underwhelming). 2nd time: Wife placed an order for a pie with half pepperoni on their website. Came back with the order and the pie had full toppings. Small nit but annoying. 3rd time: I called at 6pm on a Thursday. No one picked up. Opted to place order on their website and got the same item as last time. Showed up at and the same miserable guy asked for my name and order... and then said he didn't have any order. I told him I placed an order on the website... and he said "You should have called." with an awful (only a mother can love) grin. I showed him my email confirming 6:20pm pickup time and he said he had no order... before pulling a pie with my name on it. I asked if it had half pepperoni and it didn't. Full toppings AGAIN. Clearly, their website is not equipped to actually take half toppings orders. Pizza is OK but not worth the headache or poor service here.

Fast forward a couple of months, and we finally made it back this past weekend. It was well worth the wait. I had seen Casano's post about the cheesesteaks and could not resist. I finished the remaining pizza a few days later and could not believe how delicious it still was after being reheated. Usually, the better the food, the less gracefully it survives as leftovers, but this pizza was a rare exception. The crew behind the counter was fantastic and patiently guided us through the menu as first timers. I am already looking forward to going back and working my way through everything else they offer. The "Grandma's Living Room" vibe in the waiting area is the perfect finishing touch. We watched Goodfellas on VHS while they prepared our food. For food, we decided to order a bunch of things to share: -Zucchini fritte (with lemon aioli dipping sauce) - this was thin and perfectly crispy but somehow not oily. It was addicting -Arancini - these were okay. Could have used more meat -Margherita pizza - can't go wrong with a margherita. I do wish the actual crust was thinner -Meatball & Co pizza (meatballs, sweet sausage, cherry peppers, tomato sauce, mozzarella & ricotta cheese) - same with the crust situation. The description also said cherry peppers but they also added jalapenos, which is not a big deal - just a call out. The sausage was alright -Seafood fra Diavolo (sauteed clams, calarami, mussels, spicy tomato sauce) - sauce could have used a bit more spice. They don't skimp on the seafood though. I was pleasantly surprised by the calamari, which can taste rubberband-y but that wasn't the case here -Tiramisu - tasted fridgey/supermarket-bought -Affogato - a nice way to end the meal. Made me wonder why I don't make more affogatos at home Overall, it the meal was fine. Is it something I'd crave for? I don't think so. Well, maybe except that zucchini fritte. I wouldn't mind ordering that again. Tip - BYOB (there's a liquor store across the street)

From the vibrant decor honoring Diego Armando Maradona--a true legend and god-like figure to the people of Naples, still revered throughout the city--to the selection of ingredients imported straight from Italy, the commitment to authenticity is unmistakable. Where else can you find multiple shoe repair shops ("cobbler" - there's a Scrabble bingo word for y'all!) rubbing elbows with state-of-the-art apartment complexes, and a smattering of 'hip' and 'hot' new restaurants that keep getting rave write-ups and making all sorts of "Best of..." lists. If you're a working stiff that doesn't want to break the bank to feed your family - you can't help but appreciate that there's a place like Da Mario's that's not chasing 'likes' but remaining humble and knocking out damn good food that's affordable and tasty. The pizza is solid. Good taste, a satisfying crust, it's not going to lure any 'influencers' their way and that's fine. (Da Mario's doesn't look like a place that has any social media presence and I'd bet they still have a dedicated fax line!) The garlic knots looked 'basic' but they had a serious smack of flavor that took me by surprise, I can't lie. (And their mozzarella sticks were a hit with my kids.) And - per the usual - I must order cavatelli and broccoli when I see it - and they absolutely nail it. Not the most comfortable chairs to sit in? A table you're expecting to be a bit wobbly? Generic maps and drawings of Italy on the walls? The place is bare bones... nothing fancy, exactly what you're expecting from an old-school pizza joint. Crew behind the counter - awesome. Metered street parking (but this block is incredibly busy, so you'd be keen to drop a quick prayer to St. Frances of Rome - the patron saint of car drivers - to help you find a spot). A family of four stuffing their mugs for about $8 a person? In today's economy? Cosa non è da amare.

To start: there's a small parking lot in the back but otherwise appears to be street parking. Both of our cars found spots in the lot since we got there a touch before 5pm. When we got in there, there was only 1 table of two people occupied but we were asked if we had a reservation which we didn't have. Admittedly, it was a bit of a last minute decision to go out so it completely slipped my mind to look to see if I would be able to reserve something but it was before 5pm so I'm surprised we were met with such resistance. Luckily, they were able to take us with warning we would need to be out by 6:45. For reference we left at 6 since we only got entrees. The place itself is somewhat small and has a little covered patio which saw had some tables. It's no frills and the menu wasn't all that extensive. I swear there is more of a menu on their Slice app for takeout ordering. Bread was placed on the table as well as a water pitcher. To be honest, I didn't think the bread had much flavor and my husband and parents agreed. We were pretty hungry so we did finish it (even when bread isn't great, it's still good in my book) but we weren't offered any more than the first basket. All of our entrees came with salad which were typical pizzeria salads-not bad, not amazing. My mom and I both ordered the Chicken Avellino (chicken breast sautéed with chopped red onion, red peppers, sliced hot cherry peppers, shitake mushrooms in a white wine sauce with a touch of plum tomatoes) which came with roasted potatoes. I'm not the biggest fan of spicy but I thought I could just take off the sliced hot cherry peppers and be okay. Wow was I wrong because the entire dish had a kick to it. Even my mom who gravitates towards spicy food admitted it was hot. That said, the quality of the chicken was phenomenal. It was thin sliced and very good. My husband very much enjoyed his Scaloppini Marsala and my dad liked the Pollo Francese but did wish the sauce was a touch thicker. I will say I think the quality of the food served is very good but the portions are not plentiful. I'm guilty of always taking home and making another meal or two out of what I get out somewhere but all 4 of us cleared our plates. At a $30 price point I just wish there were larger portions.

Margarita Slice (8.6/10) - Sauce was plentiful and savory, with a touch of sweetness that really brought out all the ingredients. The cheese had a nice pull and the basil provided your typical margarita taste. Combined with the crust that added nice crunch, this margarita slice fostered a harmonious combination of flavor town. Nonna Slice (8.3/10) - The nonna slice provided a unique twist on the typical margarita flavor town. With a chunky marinara sauce,, and squareness, every bite if done correctly gets the perfect of all its flavors (town). The flavor of the sauce was not quite as tasteful as the OG margarita, but still served for a fun slice of goodness. Rice Ball (7.7/10) - Although the rice ball was 70% rice, the flavor of it with the meat and peas came together to make a yummy mush. Along with the crispy surface and side of (sweet) warm marinara sauce, the rice ball is a nice dish to have in the coziness of your home. Drunk Sicilian Slice (8.2/10) - Exactly what you would expect from a slice of pizza made with vodka sauce. In its unique square shape, the cheese is melted nicely across the creamy sauce and the rich crunchy crust. The cheese was the star of the slice with so much all over, it's everywhere. Penne Vodka Slice (8/10) - Tastes like what it looks like, a lot of pasta with less room for the sauce to shine. The slice was gimmicky but was a fun attempt at combining two fan favorite dishes. There was some cheese present on the slice but was met with a mouthful of barely toasted pasta. The pasta itself brought a rather mild taste that could've been replaced with a more flavorful option.
