Had lunch here with my mom this past Saturday and was very impressed with everything about this adorable spot! We spent our short wait browsing the little shop and scope out the delicious offerings in the bakery. The hostess offered us the option to take a small table that came available or wait for a larger one which I found very hospitable! We waited an extra 5 minutes for a roomier table by the window. Loved all the charming decor, especially the beautiful variety of tablecloths; different on each table. Our service was excellent and our sandwiches were delicious! Can't wait to return and try some of the other options off of the extensive menu! My wife and I were originally planning on grabbing a bite to eat in grand haven, but everything was surprisingly crowded on a cold January afternoon, I think due to an ice carving event. So, we drove just over the bridge and ended up spotting this place in Spring Lake. It looked at first like maybe it was just a bakery, but the word pizza caught my eye, so we tried it. We were both so glad we did. Not only do they have a full menu (which includes some amazing looking breakfast items), but they also have a full bar, which surprised me. The food was all amazing and very reasonably priced. My wife had a burger and fries and I ordered a turkey bacon bruschetta sandwich. Both were delicious, but their spinach artichoke dip with homemade garlic great was pretty much the best we've ever had! The ambiance here is almost as if you took Bill Knapps, Zehnders, and Cracker Barrel and rolled them into one. (Which is why the full bar surprised me.) Yet, there was something different about this place that defies that comparison. There is a little section near the host stand of little humorous gifts for sale. And, in the bathroom, they have racks of biographical sketches of people like Frederick Douglass and W.E.B. Dubois on card stock in wire displays. I guess they were for the taking, and I assume perhaps they were seasonal, and that they perhaps switch them out periodically. The staff and servers were all very nice. Even though we couldn't finish our meals and were taking leftovers, we grabbed a couple of pastries afterwards from the bakery, which were also great. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we are on the west side of the state. read more

We wanted to grab breakfast on our way to Grand Haven & thought we had a better chance of getting a table before we got to the lake shore. We were told about Village Baker by some friends and figured we give it a try. Saturday AM of Coast Guard Weekend and we were able to get a table at 1030 AM no problem - very pleasantly surprised. Our server was prompt in getting us drinks and taking our order & the food came out quickly. My husband and I both got the Eggs Florentine because it sounded amazing.. and it was. The Asiago scone was heaven - just the right amount of sweet/ savory. The Hollandaise sauce was delicious. We both licked our plates. The two helpings did not come with a side or with a toast option.. had i paid more attention to that, I would have gotten a side of hash browns, too. We were on our way back out to GH the following day and figured we stop again, because WHY NOT. This time we were able to get a table outside right away but service was a little slower - or maybe it just felt like it because we had a crabby 2 year old. I went with the Farmer's Breakfast Sandwich this time around and was very happy with it as well. Next time I'd order it with an over easy egg and not a fully cooked on - personal preference. I did get the side of hash browns this time with eggs - VERY crunchy (which I like). I did grab two cookies from inside & a chocolate covered macaroon. They did NOT disappoint either. Reasonable and delicious. The restaurant is clean, quality food, good service, and fun menu items. Outdoor seating (a biergarten), and lots of cocktail options. Baker is awesome, too. Server even asked which one he wanted Came home after buying some ice cream for our pies and mine was the crumb topping. Yuck yuck yuck. You might as well be eating a crumb blueberry muffin. It's sooo sweet I just like good crust and filling you can taste. I tried one bite. I know it's just a slice but it's a treat. Drive 20 minutes back up and exchanged it. I have to have closure. Oh my word... the bakery items are soooo good! Being part German and eating Bavarian pretzels my whole life (almost 40 years), I have tasted several not so good ones. The pretzels at the Village Baker are fantastic!!! One of the best I've ever had. Kicking myself for only buying one on our way out of town to head back home. We are in the restaurant and the food came out luke warm. Service was extremely slow. Once sat, we were there for over an hour and a half. Too many tables for one waitress and the kitchen was obviously overwhelmed. It tasted fine but it was lacking. read more

Delicious baked goods. The Asiago cheese scone is delicious as are their pretzels. Dine in service can be a bit slow sometimes if they are very busy- but it's a popular place for a reason/ worth the wait if you're not in a rush. I like the country chic atmosphere, and the cheeky and humorous gifts section makes me laugh every time I browse it. clearly the owners care for the place a lot! Good lattes and teas, and though I do take out, it's also a nice sit down, upscale family restaurant with pizzas made to order etc. note: the parking lot in the back is much bigger than the small front lot. read more

Delicious food! The pretzels are delicious, their specialty soup is so full of flavor and really fills you up. I had a wonderful sandwich, and soup combo, I have tried many of their desserts and have yet to be disappointed, and they had one of the best Margaritas I have ever had! They also sell full loaves of bread, and carry Ice Box Brand ice cream bars, which I could probably eat every day for the rest of my life. The staff is fun, hip, and always cheerful! Came here for lunch on Friday for the first time, and loved the exterior and plentiful parking in the back. We entered from the back main entrance, and were greeted by all sorts of small gifts for purchase. We then made our way to the host stand to put our name down. We were seated, and our server Karen took great care of us. We started with two bloody Mary's (very good!), and then we got the Turkey bacon bruschetta sandwich and Monte Cristo sandwich which were also very good. We also ordered a fried pickles to start with. The dipping sauce for the fried pickles was so good we kept it to dip the fries with that came with our sandwiches! Overall, a great experience. The only reason I am deducting a star is because of the host at the front. He was a young man in a button up vest and black beret. He was busy answering calls on the phone when we got there, but we were promptly seated by a server. However, while we were finishing up lunch a group he seated next to us wanted to be moved closer to the window table so the server helped get them to a table closer to the window. He came by and said "now I have to clean this table". He didn't have the best attitude, and as we were leaving we just overheard him at the front complaining about something else. I think as a host he should be more aware of how he presents himself to restaurant guests. I know we all have bad days, but it just isn't the energy someone is looking to experience at such a lovely establishment. read more

Our server Staci W was top shelf, she had a great personality and attitude! She really added to our dinning experience. She was knowable on the menu and every attentive! The bonus was the bakery. I freaking love pizza and not that I'm picky cause I'll shove just about any pizza in my mouth, but I do appreciate a well crafted pie. This met the mark let me say. The crust was crisp and had a great snap without being burnt, sauce had good flavor and complimented the crust, an appropriate amount of cheese, and fresh toppings to top her off (pun intended obviously). The food was delicious! I recommend the quiche. It was full of flavor and great toppings. By biggest compliment would be the bathroom, as silly as that sounds! As a new mother, Village Baker made diaper changes a breeze. Most restaurants have a questionable changing area but Village Baker went above and beyond. The restroom had a large stall fully equipped with a changing table, extra diapers and wipes, and a seat for nursing. It was such a comfortable space! This is such a cozy family style restaurant. We love the fact we can get breakfast or lunch around noon. The menu is extensive with lots of specials. We went with adult children and grandsons. The grandkids were more than happy to check out the bakery with dad after lunch. There are several items we like - the cherry salad is great and today my husband loved his Reuben. We ate here 7/1/19 with a large group of about 12 people. Many of us were visiting from out of state (CA) for a family reunion. The staff was very accommodating and quickly set up a table for us even though we didn't have a reservation. Our waiter, Jay went above and beyond, splitting checks multiple ways and even gave samples of beer one of the older gentlemen in our group who was disappointed they didn't serve Budweiser. Jay was very knowledgeable and accommodating with all the menu items. The food was all excellent, and everyone left satisfied.
