The potatoes are so yum. This time instead of adding on the blueberry almond oatmeal, I went with the Oatcakes (pancakes made from oatmeal) which had blueberries inside. Split two cakes with my wife - enjoyed them and the cinnamon butter on top is delicious. She liked the Heartland and the kids went with French Toast plus turkey sausage.

My daughter literally only ordered yogurt and fruit. She was the LAST one served. Please train servers to get children's food out quick (for everyone's sanity). When asked how our meal was, I finally did mention that this will be our last time patronizing this establishment. Clearly they are too busy to craft a joyful and memorable experience. It's better if we find a new spot. My previous review still stands. Go if you want a good breakfast, but be prepared to wait awhile and pay a premium for it.

I may have gotten fancy with my coffee, but my breakfast was a standard veggie omelette with mushrooms, tomatoes and onions (nixed the peppers) with sourdough bread on the side. Hubby and I shared the billion dollar bacon which was unfreakin' unbelievable. Espresso rubbed thick bacon with maple syrup for dipping. It's an ood thing there were only two pieces because I would've eaten more than one piece. Anna's House seems to be primarily located in towns in Michigan so if you're traveling through the area, check them out. Definitely worth a stop.

Food came quickly, coffee cup was kept filled and the breakfast was the right portion and delicious. Now in the past I've said I didn't care for their omelets, but I've changed my mind. Perhaps they make them differently than before. Bottom line, Idle Hour is not trying to be something they're not (unlike Pine Street Cafe), so if you're looking for a quick breakfast that won't break the bank, this is the place. Now I'm sitting here a good ten minutes with no server coming to take my order, while in the mean time the servers are looking out the window at the snow! I guess I could have said something but I didn't. 14 minutes later the server shows up and I say to her: "I thought you forgot about me." She replies: "actually I did." Well at least she is honest. I ordered the corn beef omelet, she asks what type of potato I'd like. I didn't realize they come with potatoes, so I tell her home-style. Food shows up about 6 minutes later, and there are no potatoes! Then I realized they put them inside the omelet instead of on the side. The corn beef was a bit dry, the omelet was not fluffy, but overall except for the lack of service, it was okay.

That's exactly why we decided to come back for breakfast on the Fourth of July. We arrived around 11:05 a.m. and were seated just after a table of 12. Our waitress, who was incredibly sweet and kind throughout the entire experience, told us she was able to get our order into the kitchen before the large party. Shortly afterward, a table of seven and then a table of six were seated outside after us. A while later, the owner personally came to our table to apologize and explained that our ticket had been lost and our breakfast had never been made. We really appreciated her honesty and the fact that she came out herself to explain what happened. At that point, we weren't upset because we understand mistakes happen, especially in a busy, family-owned restaurant on the Fourth of July. While we continued waiting, our waitress refilled our coffee, and we asked if we could have a cinnamon roll while waiting for our breakfast. It wasn't meant to replace our meal--just something to hold us over since we'd already been waiting quite a while. The owner later returned and very graciously told us our breakfast would be complimentary because we had been waiting nearly two hours. We appreciated that gesture. Unfortunately, the wait continued. During that time, the table of seven and the table of six--both seated after us--received and finished their meals while we still had nothing. With about 15 minutes left before closing, we finally went inside and asked if they could simply make our breakfast to go. That's when everyone realized there had been another misunderstanding. Our waitress had thought that when we asked for the cinnamon roll, we had decided that was all we wanted, so our breakfast order had been canceled--even though it had never actually been made in the first place. I truly believe this was an honest miscommunication, not a lack of caring. Our waitress remained kind and attentive the entire time, and the owner did everything she could once she realized the original mistake. Unfortunately, a series of communication breakdowns resulted in us sitting in the restaurant for over two hours, watching at least 30 people who arrived after us receive their meals, before ultimately leaving hungry and having to find another place to eat. This was incredibly disappointing because we know how good this restaurant can be. We will likely give Rainy Days Café another chance because our previous visit was so positive, and I genuinely believe this was an unfortunate chain of mistakes rather than a reflection of the people who work there. I hope they can use this experience to improve communication between the front of the businesss and the kitchen because the food is worth coming back for, and the staff clearly cares about their customers.

Prices, I thought, were reasonable. Service was friendly and the food was tasty. My only complaint would be the uncomfortable wooden chairs. If I were dining by myself, it wouldn't be a big deal as I would be in and out in around 20 minutes. This time I had a partner with me, so of course we lingered longer. I'll be back to this place in the future, but as a lone diner.

Don't let the Village Baker name fool you. It's so much more than just a bakery. But don't forget that the baked goods are FANTASTIC TOO. I'm a big fan of all their freshly made scones. Coffee and a scone is a great way to start the day. Then on your way out pick up a loaf of one of their freshly baked specialty breads and enjoy it at home with your dinner. My biggest surprise since they've been open was the PIZZA. I wouldn't normally imagine that a bakery would make pizza, let alone, the BEST pizza in the area. When I thought about it further, however, I realized that I begin my pizza assessments by how well I like the crust...well, duh, who should make the best crust but a bakery. I haven't yet tried their fresh made sandwiches, but from reports I'm hearing, I've got to get back for a sandwich lunch soon. Congratulations to the owners, who seem to have done everything right to create a wonderful restaurant in our Village. The Village Baker has only been in our community for ABOUT a year.....they have had amazing success, and have become so popular, that they've even had to open an extra day, and increase their daily hours. They have also now opened an Organic, local product Farmer's Market in a large space on their property. This is open on Fridays 1-7pm. The Baker's breads, cookies, desserts and pizzas are wonderful, and are offered with a smile from a great group of staffers. The owners are friendly and open to ideas, suggestions and (of course) compliments! During the summer, you can enjoy your Baker's treats or lunch in one of the outside eating areas.... All in all, the Village Baker is a great addition to our community-we are SO glad to have them here!! read more

This place has a distinctive charm. I found it enjoyable, although I forgot to capture any photos. The exterior is eye-catching in a positive manner, while the interior is somewhat dated. The unique aspect is the attached bakery, which adds to its appeal. I ordered an omelette that was excellent, but oddly, the bread didn't stand out--it might have just been a one-off. WORST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES EVER!!!! Eating at my house is a better treat then spending money on their overpriced menu. Every time I go there I find some reminisce of hair in my food. I need an immunotherapy IV after eating there. The only reason why they get away with almost poisoning their customers is that they are the only bakery in town. Great place to catch up with friends. Tuna salad is my favorite. Cappuccino is inconsistent. I wish I could still eat gluten because I sure did love their bread. And she said, "no, She gave me day old bread." Which I did pay full price for. I asked if I could have a fresh loaf because the one they had given me was very hard. She said, "no, if I want fresh I have to ask for fresh." I couldn't believe I was told that., Then I talked to the manager. He said the same thing, "you have to ask if you want fresh bread" I honestly couldn't believe they told a customer that. Will I be back? "Yes", but very disappointed in the reply. And now I know to always ask for fresh bread to me that was very bad business.

Both of our mains were poorly cooked. The pork tenderloin was overdone, dry, with an undetectable coffee crust. The blueberry BBQ sauce was all blueberry. The beef brisket was tough and once you swallowed the sauce that it was slathered in was incredibly dry. The veggies it was served with were undercooked and included the chewy stems of mushrooms (also undercooked). Despite all of this, it is a cute spot and service is kind but they are understaffed.

I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and hash browns, and it was grilled to perfection, packed with flavor, and served piping hot.
