I'm the type to order straight up protein when I go to restaurants. No sauces, no sides... Just give me the meat. At Village Cafe I ordered 2 sides of salmon and 1 side of chicken (these proteins are options to top their salads). When my order arrived, the salmon didn't look terrible but the chicken looked like it was beaten. However, when I took a bite of the salmon, I could tell it was slightly rancid, ready to turn to fully rancid. I eat A LOT of salmon and I can tell when salmon is about to go bad/not good quality and the salmon served to me was honestly borderline trash. It wasn't 100% inedible and I also hate food waste, so I ate it... Excuse me, choked it down... And thought to myself how NOT GOOD it was the entire time. The chicken was dry AF (salmon as well) but it had better flavor than the salmon (ie: it didn't taste like it was going bad). My friends didn't say a word about their food, they just ate so I think they didn't mind their meals but they also weren't mind blowing or they would have said something. I ordered a ribeye to go for my husband (before I tasted my food) and was worried it was going to be trash but he told me that it was phenomenal. So perhaps stick with the red meat at Village Cafe if you give it a shot. Just avoid the salmon at all costs! read more

Absolutely phenomenal lunch stop! I dropped by The Village Café after a listing appointment, and let me just say--what a hidden gem! I ordered the French Onion Soup, and WOW. Hands down, one of the best bowls I've ever had. After over 30 years of frequenting this restaurant, multiple owners I probably will never go back We went to their Valentines Dinner. Got there 15 minutes prior to our reservation. Apparently the hostess was either overwhelmed or just bothered by our presence. We probably should have gone back outside but chose to wait in the bar. Told that could not happen since they had no designated bartender. Designed bar tender? Interesting concept in a restaurant. Waited 15 minutes while she seated others. Finally seated. 15 minutes later a server came by and asked us if anyone had asked us if we wanted cocktails. Said he was not told it was his table. Great job by hostess. He did a good job throughout the evening. No problem with him. It was a fixed menu. Probably should have asked prices ahead of going. When the bill came it was quite a shock. We evidently paid $11.50 each for two Valentines napkins, $65.00 for chicken cordon blue and over menu price for everything else. We wanted to order champagne but the choice was abysmal. I strongly suggest you choose another restaurant for your dinner, lunch and any function in your future. After 30 years of being regular customers we will never be back. Hidden gem nestled among a smorgasbord of retail, medical, human services and culinary mixed use space. The business name doesn't evoke images of flavorful meals created with intent and real deal ingredients, but that's what you'll find on the menu once you walk and wait to be seated in huge oversized booths. Family members enjoyed a couple of the burgers, i had a pasta dish with a bountiful array of seasoned veggies and wonderfully seasoned grilled chicken, and another family member ordered the lasagna which was Huge! And one of a couple of dishes that are accompanied by a side salad. Your tastebuds will thank you. If you are tired of the bland fare many places are serving up, you need to try this place. The atmosphere included music overhead that was Instrumental Classics of past and present songs we all rushed to answer before other family members. Dessert, custard donut and bread pudding Delicious. I had 2 margaritas that were great. My mother and I split the soup of the day tomato basil and the mussel appetizer. Both did not taste good. Soup was like bad spaghetti sauce and the mussles were terrible. The worst was the manager Eric. He told us the restaurant was not a tasting menu. And we were taking advantage. Very sad. On my travels through Fayetteville I decided to stop for lunch at the Village Café due to its great reviews. At first this eatery looked very inviting as I looked over their menu, I decided on a juicy Prime Rib Sandwich and a Caesar salad. The server was very pleasant and at first glance the restaurant looked quite nice with its artwork on the walls, but as I waited for my taste morsel... I started to notice things that made me worry! All the air vents were covered with a heavy layer of dust that blows on the food and people while sitting in the restaurant. As I looked down, I noticed the carpet was worn and very soiled to the point that it made me cringe. I immediately started to think about the food I ordered. I was going to get up and leave but the nice server came out with the food and I decided to stay... which turned out to be a big mistake! My juicy prime rib sandwich turned out to be slices of some kind of meat held together by swiss cheese, onions and some mushrooms with a greasy oil oozing out. The Caesar salad was wilted and had a very bad taste. This Village Café can't be the one with all the great reviews... it should be called the village crappe café! read more

This spot is very deceiving from the name to the outside/entrance. It's a awesome Italian restaurant and the dinning area is nice & spacious. We ordered takeout and I can't imagine how much better the food is when dining in. We ordered the Cajun shrimp cheese dip, 2 seafood vol au vent, the special of the day & the blackened ribeye. I used to frequent the Village Cafe when it was in the old location. It was fancy and the food was top notch and it was always crowded. Then I moved away. The name is the same and the menu is similar to how it used to be but the owners , location, ambience and food just aren't the same. The atmosphere seems more casual and there were a lot of empty tables, which is fine but all the nearby restaurants were crowded, that should have tipped me off. The food used to be the star now it's just average. I had the pecan crusted chicken and the chicken was cooked well done, instead of a hint of pecans it was overloaded with huge chunks. The pasta was fine, not special, not bad but definitely no carbonara either , it tasted like Alfredo with bacon sprinkled on as an afterthought . My daughter got the chicken ravioli pesto. The chicken once again was way overcooked, the entire dish was drowning in pesto sauce, it looked like a soup. She didn't like it, I tasted it and agreed. The owner did check on us and seemed very nice in spite of us telling him we were disappointed. The waiter was super nice and did a great job. My experience was pleasant other than the food quality. Sadly this isn't the same place, they should change the name to avoid people expecting it to be the same. There are too many better choices for me to ever come back here again. First up was the appitizer Shrimp cheese dip with home made chips, it was amazballs a little crock in the center surrounded by the crispy little chips, really tasty. I had the french onion soup while my friend had black bean soup. The french onion soup was really nice had loads of onions with this crusty parmesan cheese on top which was a really nice change. I wasn't expecting that. We shared the entree. Yes I know, I usually don't shared. I unhinge my jaw and just shovel that shit in. I'm glad I shared. We had the roasted pork loin with mashed potatoes and apple sausage, the pork was good it had a nice sweet chutney. But sweet baby Jesus! whom ever was in charge of putting the rosemary in the sausage needs to go back to culinary school. No way does that much rosemary have to in that little bit of sausage. The Service at this little gem was wonderful and the food was hot and delicious. Although I live in Hampton, I have appointments in Fayetteville often and we are always looking for a good place to have lunch. I was really surprised to discover this place and asked the owner how long they had been here. If you are close to the hospital and want some good food, I recommend that you try the Village Café. I wish we had taken pictures. My husband had a Cuban sandwich with fries and a cup of seafood bisque and I had fish, fries and Coleslaw. Go and enjoy for yourself, we will the next time we are in the area, you will not be disappointed. read more

Delightful! Love the food, love the atmosphere and love the staff. I got to meet the owner Eric and his daughter. They are family owned and use fresh ingredients. I came for lunch and was immediately seated. I had some work to tackle and they offer free WiFi (another plus)! I got the 1/2 Reuben sandwich with a Caesar salad and added a cup of the soup de jour (chicken tortilla). It was all wonderful. Village cafe has been around for years and offers a nice menu selection. For lunch I ordered a grilled Reuben sandwich with fries. I asked for extra dressing and for my fries to be cooked a little longer. They order was ready two or three minutes after I arrived. The staff was very nice. The food was delicious but my fries were not cooked longer. I'm definitely going to try some other items. The bathroom was clean as well and there is plenty of parking. read more

I had a pretty bad experience with this place and the reason I am even writing is because it happened more than once in the same sitting. The steak was super raw when it was supposed to be a medium rare I mean the steak was literally cold to the touch...we got it "recooked" and the second steak had absolutely no seasoning on it and the manager told me that's how they make it when it's a good steak lol...anyways I didn't like the excuses I was given and then I had to ask for a discount of the steak plate due to the fact that after it was unseasoned and still not cooked right the second time I didn't want the plate redone again and I understood that I had to pay for the plate but the fact that it had to be asked for and argued about is just ridiculous. read more

We dined here mid-week as we knew we would not have time for a Saturday night dinner out during the coming weekend. I had made a reservation as a precaution, but it was apparently unneeded. When I glanced at their book upon arrival, we were the only reservation. The place was only about half full that evening. Weekends may be different. Parking is in the common lot for the businesses in this plaza. The restaurant faces two of these but there is only a door on one side. They have signs to help with this. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was very good - professional and attentive. He had some good recommendations as well. Since this was our first visit, we opted to get an appetizer and split a salad. The fried okra was very good, and we finished that. The salad (with walnuts, orange slices, and cheese) was also good. My wife had the salmon and liked it, other than the sauteed spinach. I chose a burger which was good. The restaurant seems to be on the border between a more casual place vs. a fine dining restaurant. Their prices are in that range too, a bit higher than some straight-up casual spots. They do have a range of options (steaks, pasta, etc.) and prices depending on what you want. But they might do better to choose one type or the other for better focus. We liked our meal and will likely return. read more

My family ate here last weekend. We made reservations for our party of 4. My son raved about the fried calamari so we ordered this for an appetizer. Upon arrival, I made the decision it was just sub-par. My son went to culinary school, so I totally trust his palate and he agreed the calamari had changed. Hubs ordered London broil after the cute waitress said it was her favorite. Mind you, I've never seen this on a menu in 20 years. It arrived smothered in brown gravy and was very chewy. He pushed it aside and didn't eat anything else. My son ordered the steak au poivre which he had many times a few years ago. Sadly, he was very disappointed in his choice. Again, the recipe changed and was at best again subpar. I ordered the special sea bass, my all time favorite dish. I was greatly disappointed when presented. The mashed potatoes were lacking salt and tasted like hospital food. Honestly, I don't believe the fish was sea bass at all but probably cod. For a restaurant to pass a cheaper fish for a very expensive fish is just horrible. The manager arrived at our table. My husband shared his findings with his dish and I did not. My fault, I know. His meal was comped but the entire experience was very disappointing and in no way satisfying. For the $300 we spent , I felt like it was just a waste of money. Don't eat here.
