Depending on when you order, the place is packed, loud from the live music, and has a cover charge if you're planning to sit and eat in. No cover if you order your pizza ahead of time and just run it to grab it and go. With all of that being said...this is hands down the best pizza in the Toledo area. The crust is perfect. The toppings are amazing. It's always cooked perfectly. The chef's special is always a great option if you don't know what you want. They have a decent beer selection, including rotating craft beers, and the bartenders are awesome. The only reason I gave them a 4 out of 5 is because of how busy the place gets and how loud it can be....and the basement bathrooms. If you know, you know. But if you like that kind of atmosphere, then this place is a 5 out of 5.

It's been quite a while since I wrote a review for here. It's still a divey local place in downtown Maumee. The bathrooms are down in the basement so just an FYI for those that might have mobility issues. You order drinks at the bar and then there's a separate counter where you order the pizza. Pizza only. They may have some breadsticks or something every now and again but that's the extent of the food here. The pizza is a thin crust version with toppings big as mountains. If you're not a big topping person then I would suggest just getting a pepperoni pizza which is what I order most of the time. Some of the staff is friendly and others are snarkey which makes them lose a star for me because as you see I come here a lot. Most of the staff know me. They do require you to open a tab or pay as you go which makes sense. Folks either love the pizza or hate it. I'm kind of the in-between person I like the basic pepperoni pizza fine but I don't particularly care for whole mushrooms and sausage that's as big as my hand. The drink prices are reasonable and they do have a rotating craft beer selection of probably six to eight taps which brings me back. Live music daily so its always lively. StilI charge a fee to come during weekends. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

We've been here countless times and the reason is the pizza. This place has been here for a while and they offer live music everyday. They have an old bar that swings cold and strong drinks, but you have to go up to the bar to order. Same with the pizza. Seats are first come, first served and this place gets packed! It's a must try spot.

I saw a post about this place and since I was up that way or so I thought, I really wanted to give it a try. Turns out it was 40 min further away than I thought, but oh well. The neighborhood was really cool, wish I had time to explore. I picked up at 11:45am and when I went in, the place was already jammin'! Crazy since it was so early in the day! Clearly a neighborhood fav! They do thin crust, but definitely do not skimp on the toppings! Ordered the bbq chicken and a build your own with spinach, mushrooms, 1/2 pepperoni & 1/2 sausage. I didn't care for the cheese on the bbq chick (very strong taste & smell), I'd switch that next time & the sausage is spicy if you like spicy! ;) Glad I tried it, didn't love it and not a location I'll be back to anytime soon to give it another try.

After hearing the rave about Village Idiot, I had to find out for myself if they truly lived up to the rave... Curiosity definitely killed the cat. I was neutral about the taste experience but, definitely noticed it's a vibrant and bustling venue that's perfect for socializing with friends and even meeting new people. Service was great but, a bit confusing due to the pizzeria and bar being two separate entities. Overall, I've had better pizza elsewhere but, definitely enjoyed the ambiance.

We were visiting the area recently and this came up as a great lunch option. It's a lively pub atmosphere with fun decorations. I am pretty sure the menu is all pizza which is what we were there for anyway! Service is at the bar/counter but they were helpful and friendly. We opted for the chef's veggie pizza which is basically whatever veggies they have on hand! He did ask if there was anything we "didn't" want but we were all in. We got a pizza stacked with veggies including whole mushrooms. Even with all that, the crust was crispy and delicious. It was just the right size for two very hungry adults to share, so no to-go box. But, we'll go back when we're in the area again. I wasn't a fan of the plastic, paper plate and pizza pan but that's really my only quibble.

Once a year I'm in the area and always stop at The Village Idiot. The pizzas are fantastic and the vibe of the place is great. The bar tenders are friendly and are quick to get your drinks. The wait time can be a little long, but the pizzas are worth it!

Village Idiot is a fun, low-key dive in downtown Maumee, OH. The inside has eclectic decor all around, quite a bit of seating, large bar, and pizza ordering window. Village Idiot only serves tavern style pizzas (byo and specialties). Our group got (2) pizza to share between three of us which was perfect. One may need to wait 20-30 min for a pizza on a busy day but everything comes out piping hot and fresh. One also has to go up to the bar to order drinks but they offered a wide variety at killer prices (capt and diet: $4, busch light: $2, Two Hearted: $5). Be sure to come early for a night they have live music to grab a table and enjoy!

I have only been here once. Went with 3 friends to check it out and as we arrived we got asked for a 5 dollar cover fee since they had a band. Ok, sure. Well directly after paying we walked inside and realized there was not a seat or place to stand in the entire building. No were to drink beer or eat a pizza. We walked directly out and was told we couldn't get a refund on our cover fee. No warning on how it was to full for compacity, nothing. . Within 2 minutes they got 20 dollars from me. Never again. Lesson learned. read more

I've never been and wanted to order a pizza to go. Yes, I realize it's Saturday night, but the door man wouldn't let me in the door until I gave him $5 cover charge even after I explained to him I was not staying. I don't think I will be back any time soon. read more

A Maumee staple! Best pizza in town! The atmosphere is like no other place in Toledo. Live music 7 nights a week and they always have great out of town bands come through. They always have good craft beers on tap and the staff is always friendly. Again, THE PIZZA! I always go with the feta, hand cut sausage, mushrooms and banana peppers. The pepperoni is amazing too! Definitely a townie bar but a great place to visit if you're in the area! read more

Was visiting a friend & we decided to check this place out on a whim towards the end of the night (1:00 AM). I can definitely say I wish we would have found it much earlier in the night. Great live band (The Reese Dailey Band), awesome laid back atmosphere, cheap Great Lakes Christmas Ale, old school CD jukebox & the best part...a painting of Dr. Steve Brule prominently displayed above the bar. I will definitely be frequenting this bar whenever I'm in the Toledo/Maumee area. read more

Stopped by at 6pm on. Friday, $5 cover, no tables expected to open up for hours, 1 1/2 hr wait for pizza. The guy at the door said we would have had to be there by 5 to get a table. Giving 3 stars since we didn't try food or get in to give a review, but just as a FYI to demand. Would say this is more a music place than a food place at night. read more

Apparently this is not my weekend here. Love the pizza here but I'm a little put off by the fact that I came there at 6 pm and they wouldn't let us in because my 15 year old son was with. I would get it if it was 10 at night but 6? When we questioned the door Man he said ,"well there aren't any seats open anyway." I'm a little confused considering we have been here several times later than 6 on a Friday night with my son. I guess they are dog friendly but not kids friendly. The young kid at the door was looking d of jerky. read more

First time there and we were NOT disappointed. The music was awesome (Frankie may and associates, seriously awesome u guys), great beer choices, prices were very reasonable (we spent less than 50 on 2 pizzas, 2 beers, 2 drinks, AND there was live music), and the atmosphere in general kicked so much butt! Very relaxed and happy. The whole reason we went there was to try the pizza and we LOVED it. Ordered the chef's special and chef's veggie. Everything was hot, fresh, and a great balance of ingredients. Perfect night out, on a Monday no less! read more

Went here for dinner, we're surprised that we had to pay a cover to go in for dinner. The pizza was exceptional, the drinks plenty cold, the band not too loud , the bathrooms are in the basement, which made things difficult because of my bad knee. I would probably order carry-outs from now on. read more

This is always a must have whenever I come home to Maumee and visit. First off, if you don't know yet, Village idiot is a dive bar - but one of the best dive bars by far! Located in the heart of downtown, the Village Idiot use to be an old bank which makes it a little unique! They always have great live music, a nice craft beer selection, friendly service, random board games and of course their amazing pizza! Their pizza is by far the best! I'm a huge pizza fan and I've never been anywhere else that uses such good toppings - we're talking about whole garlic cloves, hand cut Italian sausage, whole meatballs and so on. read more

I LOVE this Bar. Even though I do not go there to drink. I have been to the Idiot on numerous Sundays for the Music and pizza. It is a fun, casual place to really enjoy good music and to die for pizza. My friend and I opted for roasted garlic on the pizza on one occasion, it was so delicious. Whole cloves of creamy roasted garlic, it was just amazing. On another occasion we got it again but the garlic was almost raw, not sure if there were two garlic options Roasted or not? But most pizza topping are on there whole, such as button mushrooms and olives, it just makes the appearance as amazing as the taste. I've got to get back there to try the Meatball Pizza soon though! read more

Nice place. The pizza was great and inexpensive. They had a live band playing which was fun and worth the $3 cover charge. I went on a Thursday and there weren't too many people around. I get the feeling there is a core group of familiars and regulars. Probably very fun to go to on a more busy night! read more

I can't believe a place (The Village Idiot Maumee) would allow their staff, especially on St Patty's day, to give absolutely the worst shitest service I have ever seen, just because their bartenders did not receive a big enough tip (I left a dollar when we received our first beer which the gal bartender denies) to suit their fancy. No one came to our table to take our order, No one came to clear our empty bottles or ask if we needed anything. We had to go to the bar, wait an ungodly amount of time and the place was not packed or even busy for that matter at around 2ish in the afternoon to get our own beer. At one time, the dude at their bar took the empty bottles my girlfriend brought up and then ignored her, really, after apx. 5min she had to ask if she could get refills as he's standing around picking his nose, really. The gal at their bar even had the audacity to tell us "No Tip, No Service" Well let me tell you Miss Fancy pants, you screwed yourself out of a tip, and a tip for WHAT, with your attitude. We just left Dale's Bar and Grill across the street and their bartender received apx $21.00 in tips from us when we left, why, because they had great service, even with all 7 of us, even on St Patty's day and THEY were packed and very busy, she did her job with a smile, was very nice and polite, therefore she received a tip, a good one at that...The definition of a tip by the Merriam-Webster: a gift or a sum of money tendered for a service performed : gratuity. Key word: preformed, not condition of service you will get. If you're planning on going to The Village Idiot Maumee be prepared to tip good BEFORE you receive anything from this bunch....or you won't get anything. Thank you Village Idiot for letting us know the next time we go bar hopping to skip your place.... read more

FANTASTIC pizza. I'm not a huge beer or love music person (I know) went on a summer Friday night and wter able to find a table immediately (which was great) pizza was so good and worth going for. Atmosphere is huge here. Definitely an advantage toenjoy beer and live music. read more

Well, PizzAroma had a good run. After some price increases, their prices were still very…read morereasonable, and we still ordered often. However, the ownership recently changed and they eliminated multiple specials. That said, I ordered in the middle of February 2026, and was quoted $9.95 for a large two topping - what their regular special always was. I ordered two for a total of $19.90. However, with a friend picking up the pizza I'd ordered, they charged $29.90 stating that their prices had recently changed. That doesn't sit well. A 50% price increase upon arrival is not right. It sounds like the person who took my order and quoted me the price was thinking of the prior specials under the original ownership, and even though I ordered with those prices, they did not want to honor it. The manager was very argumentative, and I offered that I would return the pizza for a full refund or he could refund the difference. After 5 minutes of back and forth, the manager finally agreed to refund $6 to make it right. With the new ownership and massive price increases, I guess that's the last I'll be ordering of PizzAroma.

(It's probably not a thing, but I'll consider a local phenom. lol) Don't know the full story, but I guess it goes back 60+ years, and it all starts with Gino's.. it mostly explains why many of Toledo-based pizza chains taste similar, including Pizza Cat, Mancino's, Amy's etc.. I've now tried all but Amy's and they're all on my Good-list. For those who don't know -- and to be fair, I'm only *just* beginning to understand -- there's the thin New York style pizza, there's the thick Chicago style pies, there's also more than a few true "Italian" style pizzas such as Napoletana or Romana pizzas, and there's the Toledo style pizza. There's very greasy. Their sauce has a bit of sweetness to it. Add also, toppings are spread all the way to the edge so there's barely any crust on them. For me, it's the last fact that gets sold. I don't necessarily like crusts on pizzas. I'm the dude that goes only for the the middle square pieces of Siciliano pizzas. Initially I wasn't too thrilled to hear about the "sweetness" factor, since I don't generally like my non-desserts to be sweet. But their sweetness is sorta like the sweetness you expect from BBQ sauce. It's not too overpowering (hindered by the greasiness.. in a very.. good.. way) and borderline unnoticeable, which I like. But what I like the most about them is that a 14" regular large size pizza will fill up my entire family with the amount of toppings they put on a pie. Initially I thought I had made a mistake of ordering too little when I saw the 14" box when I was picking it up. But when I lifted up the box, I noticed it was just as heavy, if not heavier, than say, a 16" pie from somewhere else. The heaviness of toppings reminded our family of a pizza place called Pizza Factory up in Phelan, CA we used to get our special pizza from, which must have contained something ridiculous like 20 different types of toppings.. In fact, I'm so glad this place actually knows what "extra cheese" means! The sauce had a nice amount of sweetness and they put just the right amount. The cinnamon bread was also really good and even though I would have liked a little more cinnamon, the bread was soft and kind of moist. We have had the opportunity to have some really great pizza across the country including real Chicago deep dish at Giordano's. Even so, we've always been partial to Domino's since they recently changed their recipe but I can say we enjoyed Jo-Jo's just as much. The menu also has a good variety including subs and salad. On Monday and Wednesday they have a deal for 1/2 off pizza for carry out which I'm sure we'll take advantage of. We are so happy to have good pizza so close to our house now!

Anyways, I am giving this place a 3 because the service and food were both lacking. I will say that they were very busy being that it was Father's Day but that shouldn't affect food quality. Lastly they didn't take off the ribs from the check and I had to have that fixed which should have already been handled by the waitress after discovering they were out.

Flavorful, flat-crust and crisp-crust pizzas! I ordered the Tuscan and added sausage. YUM! Good beer selection, but I ordered a mixed drink or two as I waited for the pizza. Every time we try and come to this bar it is the absolute worst experience. Today at 5:30 I was told by the cigar smoking 90 year old bouncer that I would have to pay a cover just to come inside to order carry out pizza. This is the last time we try coming here. On top of that no one answers the phone! Get over yourself Village Idiot and run a better business. It's very disappointing! read more

Ok so I'm new in town & want to check some bars out. This place rocks. Best pizza and live music in town! Love the dive bar atmosphere and the the band was awesome. The local vibe is evident as most people are either Maumee townies or from the burbs. Beer selection was on point and the guys making the pizzas in the back are all part of the show--fun staff!!
