Best beer drinking joint in Carlsbad. Went here for the first time in 1991 and it hasn't changed a bit. Long live the Train Beer!!!!

Can't go wrong with a bowl of warm popcorn in a bar!

This bar is the diviest dive bar ever - which is exactly what they're going for! As some others have mentioned, it's TINY. Literally just a long, narrow bar that seats I'm guessing 12-15 people. That's it! It's dark, had a good, interesting mix of music playing, and there was a TV turned to a baseball game. We received a greeting immediately and had beers in hand fast, along with a bowl of fresh popcorn from the movie theater style machine. Why don't more businesses do this?! Genius! Seems like this bar is loved by a good balance of both locals and curious tourists wanting to check out just how small it is. We come to the area often and will definitely be back!

When you are in Carlsbad, just want a beer and a break, this is your place. Great little dive bar where everyone gets along, the beer is cold, the people are friendly (our bartender was great) and the atmosphere is welcoming. Give this place a try.

Well hello my socially awkward friend (bar). This little joint is a dive right under your nose in Carlsbad Village. It's like the little train that could....try to keep up with all the hoity toity new spots like Campfire or Barrell Republic. Lol Great NARROW little spot, would not suggest for you and your closest 10 friends lol at least not at the same time. But if you stand in line, like at the bank, when one leaves another can come in it might work. Hahahaha Funny train special and great prices. No food.but POPCORN! If you're out Pub crawling or Dud crawling or for whatever reason you happen to be in the village this is a good spot to stop for a quick one

Great Spot! Heart of Carlsbad Village.. Home of the " Train Beer" Happy St. Paddys Day

Ive always has a curiosity to see what this place is like, and I knew that its very small considering the fact that its tightly tucked between two different businesses. As soon as you walk in you notice the narrow pathway to the bar which is on your left. Theirs 4 screens playing all different types of sport and a limited amount of craft and beers to quench your thirst! For the last two times ive been here its always been girls who tend this bar, it is beer only...so if your looking for Jameson or tequila your not gonna find it here. Its pretty clean and quiet here, since everyone tends to keep to themselves. The only ones that do stop by for a drink are locals and you can tell by the conversations/greetings to one another. ITS AWESOME!! Prices for the beers are what is expected, about $5 a beer. Because of limited seating (about 12 seats in the bar) it makes the bartender very quick and attentive to make sure your cup is never empty but half full ;) lol oh yeahhhh! I like to come here by myself since its nothing neat to take a group of friends to. Its just a nice establishment to unwind on a Sunday or even after work. Theres no food served here but they do sell bags of chips. Overall, good/quick friendly service.

    Lotto, popcorn and draft beer...

Tiny, hole-in-the-wall (almost literally) pub with cold beer on tap and a local feel.

I've been here twice in the past week for happy hour and it's sooo good every time…read more The happy hour is Mon thru Thursday every week from 3-5 pm. I don't quite remember the prices but I think everything priced was fair/good value seeing as their food and cocktails are amazing and very high quality. I love the chicken gochujang sandwich. It is sweet, tangy, spicy, and the perfect portion. It is part of their happy hour but also their regular menu so it's great that I can enjoy at a discount. The happy hour was house cocktails only, but they do them really well. Their original cocktails are fun, delicious, and one of a kind. I tried a few and you can't go wrong. Lastly, the bartenders and servers are exceptional. They are kind and fun and definitely help to make the experience and environment a lot more enjoyable. I really enjoy this place and look forward to coming many more times and bringing more friends and family in to enjoy as well!

This drink was refreshing, not too sweet, and something I would order again and again. The bartender made a good drink, however, he seemed a little annoyed with us wanting food and doing separate transactions.

Had to tell you I'm really happy that I watched the World Cup game here I live in Los Angeles,…read morewhich is about 93 miles away from this place, but a good friend of mine recommended it and although it was a challenge to find parking because it was Friday night and kickoff the World Cup ceremonies. The seating I got was incredibly comfortable. The service was great and I gotta tell you I kicked it up with probably one of the newest appetizers I ever have they call rattlesnake eggs they're jalapeños wrapped at bacon and cream cheese inside they were super delicious. I got the avocado ranch to dip it in. I have to tell you though the Angus burger medium rare now I might make a recommend medium or medium well because it is juicy, but this hamburger was delicious and juicy and it is very well sized, but let me tell you the Coyte grace came from what my friend ordered and boy was jealous The coyote nachos are incredible. I recommend getting them with steak... These flavorful delicious nachos. Come with an incredibly dark salsa that will make your mouth water. I had to get extra sour cream and jalapeños because my friend knew he wasn't gonna be able to eat them without some Assistance, whether he wanted it or not not to mention you wanna take some chips and salsa home they'll sell it to you right here. this is what we're the trip from Los Angeles and I'm gonna tell you although it gets loud in here when he gets Act it's a family restaurant and we all love that on a Friday night... And actually in this case every night for me but Friday nights they also have live music in outdoor seating I don't wanna ever pass this place up, but let me tell you those nachos? I might move here. lol!

The worst part is the DJ let those singers sing second and third and even fourth songs! So here we are not able to sing while watching the singers who did sign up ding over and over again! That's a guaranteed way to create disappointment for others...which is why it's a two star review. It'd be nice to change this system so more people could sing! On the positive side their fish tacos are delicious! You can order just one and they are pretty filling. I hope you all can change your system as we'd love to come back and experience your karaoke nights!

The Smash Burger comes with two patties, cheese, onions and bacon...YUM! The buns tasted slightly sweet so it paired well with the savory burger. The fries were great too. Not overly crispy. They run specials every day on different items, but the Smash Burger is for sure one to check out. The service was awesome. Our waitress was super nice and kept checking in on us. Great Service always makes a difference. Hennessey's is pretty big. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have booths, tables and bar seating for whatever your preference is. AT THE INTERSECTION OF REGRET AND REMORSE…read more At what point does a cover charge become just a discrete way of saying "you're not welcome, only tolerated"? Nothing humbles you faster than paying a $40 daytime 'cover charge' to sit uncomfortably with alchy-bros and their untreated mental health issues. We came to this Irish Tavern because...well... St. Patricks Day. The bouncer wouldn't let us in until we paid the extortion. It's no wonder millennials are broke. I didn't really wanna pay, but we found such a great parking spot... He took my cash and stuffed it in his pocket. For $40, we assumed something legendary was awaiting us inside. Is Cillian Murphy here? Or maybe a Glen Hansard cover band.? At the very least a Conan O'Brien blowup doll? Nope... just canned music playing over speakers that crackled like grandpa's radio. So there's no band... But, for $40 there better be at least something I haven't seen before. Perhaps they've summoned St. Patrick from the dead? Or figured out how to make everyone's red flags visually appear. Or how to uncrack an egg... Something! But nope, it was just like a regular day that wasn't $40 to get in. And here's the thing: the food and drink are ALSO more expensive than usual! So they already fleeced me for $40, and now two drinks are also $40? Two corned beef plates: another $50!? It was average to below average. It was like they took every Irish Tavern in the world, put 'em all in a blender, and hit puree. It was just... easy-to-chew mediocrity. Honestly, I've been to better pubs at Holiday Inn. As we walked out, the same bouncer was still collecting his shakedown fees. But this time the cover charge was only $10. Only 45 minutes later, the cover charge for the privilege of... well nothing... lowered exponentially!?! This isn't an Irish tavern, this is a scam with a jukebox. Pro tip: I've paid $40 for many things. A glow-in-the-dark toilet seat. A Texas-shaped waffle maker. A desktop punching bag for when Yelp takes down my reviews. But I'd rather pay $40 to NOT go to a mediocre Irish bar. Next year, I'm staying home to enjoy a $3 Guinness in my garage. No cover. Curated playlist. Parking's up front. Just me, my red flags, and zero regret.
