I've been going to Vim's since 1987. They were originally on 8th and Vermont, then they opened their flagship location on Hollywood Blvd near Normandie (Thai Town). I have been to most of the other locations but I frequently go to the location in Arleta because it's closer to my home. The food is incredible and freshly prepared to order. I enjoy it so much that I've had a large birthday party there and it's our go-to eatery for our group celebrations! It's nothing fancy and truly a family atmosphere. My husband introduce me to this place. We would go to the one on Hollywood. Since they started opening more Vim's the closest one to us is Arleta. We have 20 years of coming and enjoying the food here. We always get the 7 sea soup which is delicious, the fried rice, chicken sauté and the BBQ beef. My kids love the flavorful food, it's their favorite. The service here has always been pleasant. We have had some issues here and there but the food is too good to stop going. Some of the employees are also super nice and it compensates and we keep going to Vims. This place is a must try. read more

Disappointed by how horribly the servers here have treated my family at our most recent visit to Vim. My family has been loyal customers for YEARS, but the customer service was ABYSMAL. Server claimed that my family did not pay for the bill despite giving them the cash. Servers talked back to us when we told them we had given them the money and took almost an hour for them to give us the change after "reviewing the cameras." They also count babies as a whole person in the tip BTW! The absolute worse people work at this place and I'm incredibly disappointed. I will no longer be returning here! Not bad but nothing special. I wouldn't go out of my way to get here. Vim's isn't in the best part of town, but that's beside the point. What I'm concerned about is the food. We ordered a handful of dishes. The ka na (Chinese broccoli) with crispy pork was on the sweeter side and the pieces of pork were extremely fatty. The chicken fried rice was bland as was the beef fried rice. At least the portions were large for the fried rice. By far, the best dish was the pork jerky. The sauce for it was delicious. The restaurant is small but they were able to accommodate our party of 13. The service was good and the food is inexpensive. It's a cash only joint, but that's not a big deal. Just recently opened (I think) for this location. I usually go to the Hollywood location. And after a cold round of golf nearby, the group was hungry that evening. Where better to go then Vim?! This location is surrounded by all the Latino moms and pops establishments, so you'll have to look closely to find it. Small location, so most of the time you'll be waiting for the table. We don't usually get the "seafood soup" or the "shrimp fried rice" like the other patrons, but we go for the more yummy traditional THAI dishes. Good service, clean restaurant, good and tasty food! My only con to this Vim location is that it is small and it's CASH ONLY. Good food!!! read more

Possibly the worst "Thai" ever! Not only is the food complete garbage. The service is beyond shit. The Thai food here is cheap, no flavor so I don't understand what some people are saying it's "good" they obviously haven't had good food yet! Drive up the street and out of the valley! I hate having lunch at work cause all you have is cheap Chinese, some malnourished fast food joint, or one of these so called restaurants that serve ethnic foods that don't take pride in their own cuisine. The sweet and sour chicken is just sweet not even sour. Not as pungent as you would expect it to be due to the color plus I've had better sweet and sour at panda and it's just a sauce they serve!!! The "panang curry" I ordered over the phone turned out to be some random curry watered down colorless, flavorless and all you taste is that nasty bamboo shoots they added. This is not legit Thai food. Not like I'm Thai myself, but add some flavor! Even the chowmein has bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of bamboo shoots obviously you can tell. So the way this restaurant uses them "religiously" is just not my cup of tea. So I def won't be returning to this run down establishment. P.s. Cash only.
