I am a big fan of gourmet doughnuts and Vincent Van Doughnut definitely hits the mark. They use all natural ingredients and the portion is huge. They do carry a higher price point but that's to be expected for a premium product. Two doughnuts set me back $6. This was my first visit to the Grove location as I usually go to Clayton. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is my cheesecake doughnut from this location was a little undercooked and doughy. Which is not something I've experienced in Clayton. I would definitely recommend you checking them out but if you have a location choice I would visit the Clayton location. read more

We found this donut shop while staying in St Louis. My husband went in to get glazed donuts, I know not imaginative, but they had none. He bought a white glazed chocolate cake donut that was pretty good. He also bought a dozen glazed donut holes, for $8, unfortunately they seemed a couple days old. Very dry, had to discard them. My main concern is the snobby grumpy lady that "helps" you. Saw them on Instagram with a gooey butter cake donut. She looked at me like I was a complete moron when I asked and told me she had no idea what I was talking about in the most condescending and rude manner possible. Not only were both employees not wearing a mask, but one was touching their face and nose repeatedly, then returning to work making the doughnuts with their unwashed hands. These donuts are enormous and very pretty! Edible eye candy. I wanted to try at least 5 different flavors but I am only 1 person so I had to pick one because they are about the size of my face. I picked the French Toast paired with an Americana coffee. The icing is extremely sweet, maple coated with crushed nuts. The donut itself had great chew. I could have done with a little less sweetness but overall this was one of the best donuts I have ever eaten. read more

Saw this place on PBS' "Food is Love" show. I was visiting a friend nearby and decided to drop in. The place has a cool design, clean and staff was friendly and helpful. The walnut maple donut had great topping but I don't think the donut was fresh that day. The blueberry, which is normally my favorite was dry and I just threw it away. I really, REALLY want to like this shop better. My experiences at VVD in Clayton were five star-worthy, consistently. I've been to this location a couple of times and once I dig in to my doughnut, I remember why I don't visit as frequently. The quality of VVD's offerings have dropped off significantly. Wow..... the Maple Bacon doughnut is what dreams are made of! Candied bacon with a hint of Cayanne pepper. The doughnut itself was so soft and light. If only they were in my home state, I'd probably drive at least an hour to get these. But sadly they are not. If you are in St Louis it is a must stop for sure. read more

The donuts served here are delicious artistic creations! Fresh and piled with fresh toppings and glaze, with a flavor to suit anyone's taste. The staff was personable and friendly. After we left, we were walking down the sidewalk when the woman working there ran outside and shouted, "Thank you for your service!" She had realized that I was a veteran and felt bad that she didn't know earlier and offer a discount. She displayed appreciation that was above and beyond. First off the place was really cute! I got four donuts, one cake and three yeast. The cake was the turtle and was probably the most disappointing. The donut was very dry. I also got the chocolate chip cookie, the Oreo, and the chocolate peanut butter which was amazing! They were a bit pricey. You know, like others have said, the price point doesn't match the quality. While in LA, a local cafe in Little Tokyo till this day has the BEST bacon donut I ever had in my life. I opted to try the VVD version and was left feeling like I was eating a square piece of bread, with a little glaze and bacon. Also tried their Samoa which flavor wise wasn't all there. Donut Drive-In on Chippewa to me is still the best donut place in the south side. TL:DR - Expensive but subpar doughnut. Great place to take your friends for an instragram photo if that's what's important. Otherwise there are better doughnut shops around town. Vincent Van Doughnut ain't bad, but it ain't great either. First off, doughnuts range from $2 to $4, with most of the interesting ones at $4, and at that price it better be really dang good (it wasn't). I went in around noon on a Tuesday and the guy said the remaining doughnuts were 2 for 1, so I got new york cherry cheesecake and a maple bacon, I don't usually like maple bacon, but the only other one there was turtle and I don't like chocolate.... don't hurt me. But out of the two I actually liked the maple bacon better. Better doesn't mean it was good though. As other people have said, the doughnuts are large, instagrammable, and square, but it doesn't equate to a good doughnut. If you look at the doughnut, it's about 90% unglazed doughnut and 10% crazy topping and the doughnut part itself doesn't have a ton of flavor, which really makes me feel like I'm eating an unsweet cupcake. To give you a reference, my favorite doughnut place in stl (I haven't been to world's fair donughnuts mind you) is John's Doughnuts downtown when they come out around midnight. In other notes, the decor was very upscale hipster, I could totally see myself enjoying some coffee while studying for meeting someone up to chat there. A lot of the reviews mention a boring meanish guy behind the counter. The guy I encountered was the right amount of talkative, meaning he was friendly but knew when the conversation was over. read more

Finally made it to the home of the most unique donuts in town. I was fresh off a 5K (Go! St. Louis Halloween Race) so everything looked delectable in the case. The gentleman behind the counter mentioned the selection of savories (several quiches and other goodies) and I decided on the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit Kolache. First of all, BISCUIT KOLACHE?!? I was skeptical at first, but HOT DAMN. So delicious. The biscuit was fresh and springy, with the ingredients inside having so much flavor. You could tell a lot of thought and energy was put into seasoning the eggs and getting the flavors right. The most surprising part was the huge serving (at least the size of a softball) didn't fall a part as I shoved it down my gullet on my drive home. I ordered the Lemon Lavender, Hazelnut Latte, Blueberry cake, and Halloween (Mummy something or another) donuts to go. Overall, the shape and texture of the donut is unique. When I pulled open the yeast donuts, I could pull layer and layer of dough goodness out. The donut was so large that I couldn't finish it in one setting...meaning I waited a few minutes before smashing the other half. The flavors were there, but I wasn't that impressed with the Halloween or Hazelnut Latte. The Lemon Lavender was unique, but the lavender pieces themselves weren't super pleasant. Also, the packing of the donuts in the paper bags meant more topping ended up on the bag then on the donut... As someone who frequents many donut shops in St. Louis, this one is multiple notches above the other *ahem* "hipster" donut places. Saw this cute little donut shop as we were heading to Forest Park so had to stop in and grab a donut. These are very extravagant donuts with custom flavors like cherry cheesecake, turtle and Samoa, all loaded with way to much sweet goodness for me, but I let each of the kids choose a donut: Samoa, choc chip, and vanilla glazed cake. If you're looking for vegan donuts in saint louis, this is THE place. The owner/manager is incredibly kind and helpful. They only do vegan donuts one day of the week and I ended up going on the wrong day (if you order 6 or more head of time you can get them any day though), but the owner was seriously the sweetest about it. Vincent Van Doughnut's is a wonderful breakfast spot in core of the Grove. My wife and I visited on a late Sunday morning and I was given the task of picking out doughnuts. One of the hostesses let me know the kolaches were warm and freshly baked---and highly recommended. I ordered two of kolaches, despite not knowing what they were, with six donuts glazed with chocolate. Lesson: if they have their savory kolaches, buy some. They are a central European pastry filled with eggs, cheese and bacon. The pastry is like a buttery biscuit. It must have been a thousand delicious breakfast calories. Beyond the savory bites, the donuts were soft, fluffy, and sweet. The coffee was robust and warming. The cafe is bright, modern, and great indie music was playing. Sufjan Stevens in fact. Vincent Van Doughnuts was an impressive spot to stop in quickly for a delicious breakfast treat. I highly recommend it. read more
