It's an odd name for a place where the center - the food - is currently the weakest part of the frame. We had a reservation and still waited about ten minutes to be seated. Once inside, the room works: warm, intimate, the kind of space that makes you want to linger over another glass. Our server was the clear highlight. He was attentive without hovering and genuinely helpful with the wine list. That side of the night felt right. The food was less consistent. Most of the plates felt like appetizers trying to pass as entrees, both in portion size and in price. The Gougères arrived warm on the outside and cool in the middle. The tuna crudo ($23) was four ordinary slices swimming in oil. The pork belly and shoulder with cucumber relish had real flavor, though it came out lukewarm after a long gap between courses. The grilled hanger steak with shallot butter suffered the same problem as the crudo -- too much fat, and the sear pushed just past good into slightly burnt. The bigger issue is the neighborhood. Ventura Boulevard already has several places doing this exact concept - intimate wine bar, small plates, good room - more consistently. Bacari in Sherman Oaks and Unidos (just a few blocks away) are both serviceable examples that currently execute the idea with fewer misses. When the competition is already solid, it's hard to see the clear reason to come back here for dinner. There's a decent wine bar in here trying to get out. If I return, it'll be for the room and a few glasses... the kitchen still needs to catch up.

He kindly brought one of the missing cheeses, but informed us that the lesser amount was actually the correct amount for this menu item. Maybe I'm delusional, but between the cheese mixup and the wine spillage (and staining my white shirt), I kind of half expected a little something from them. We just happened to stop by before the set up. The place is small but cozy. It was a dark and moody vibe but nice. There's a bar along the main wall which why we stopped by. Grabbed a couple of beers and sat outside. It's along a busy street which was nice people watching. Didn't have any food but the menu did look nice. Just from what we experience, it was good. Obviously the beer was a perfect pair to a relaxing night. People watching was great touch too. As the dj was finishing setting up the crowd did start to arrive. I'm not sure how often that happens. They are: field greens, avocado, heirloom tomatoes, red onion, corn, grilled asparagus, hothouse cucumber, edamame, crispy tortilla strips, cashews and vinaigrette dressing, I opted for ranch and no cashews. $18.00 for the salad, and there was a price difference by $6.50 in the Truffle burger. They charged me $28.50 for our burger, when on their website it says $22.00. I am not going to dock a star for that, but they need to get the price right. Is it $28.50 or is it $22.00.? Food tasted fresh, healthy, not oily, and not salty. It was pretty good and the portions were fair. Not too big and not too small.Very filling though. Our burger came with shoe strings fries, which was good and they charged an additional$2.00. Sangria was not too strong and had a good kick to it, and it was pretty refreshing. $9.00. Even with the Dine LA menu having certain items that aren't really supposed to be changed, I asked if they could make a modification for me and she made it happen. Really appreciated that. Now the FOOD! I got the chicken parmesan with the pink sauce and that pink sauce was a straight 10/10. Actually forget just the sauce, the whole damn dish was a 10/10. If the cost of doing business has gone up, I'd much rather see menu prices reflect that than have an extra charge automatically added at the end.
