My wife suggested we try Vitello's for Dine LA and I'm not gonna lie, I went into this place completely blind. Usually I'm VERY picky when it comes to restaurants. I'm checking Yelp, looking at pictures, reading reviews, all that before I decide to go somewhere. This time I didn't do any of that. My wife suggested it and I like Italian food, so I said alright, let's give it a try. And mannnn this place was GOOD. Right off the bat I noticed how nice and attentive the staff was. When it was our turn they told us it might be a second, but instead of just leaving it at that, she was like, "wait, let me go check," and came back and was able to sit us right away. Small thing, but I noticed it and appreciated it. Our waitress Aubrey was amazing too. Super nice, attentive, drinks kept coming, and she really took care of us. Even with the Dine LA menu having certain items that aren't really supposed to be changed, I asked if they could make a modification for me and she made it happen. Really appreciated that. Now the FOOD! I got the chicken parmesan with the pink sauce and that pink sauce was a straight 10/10. Actually forget just the sauce, the whole damn dish was a 10/10. My wife got the lasagna and I don't know what rating she would give it, but I know she liked that bad boy because she tore those leftovers UP, and most of her leftovers usually just stay leftovers. Even when it came to dessert they took care of me. They named off a bunch of gelato flavors and I was like, "I want strawberry," even though strawberry wasn't one she named. Aubrey was like, "I can get you strawberry," and sure enough she got it for me. The vibe was great too. Perfect date night spot. It has that nice cozy mom and pop type of feel to it, but still feels like somewhere you take your wife for a nice night out. We went upstairs and checked out the jazz section too and it looked pretty cool. That's definitely gonna be our next date night when we're back in Studio City. Me and my wife left there with BIG smiles. Food was amazing, drinks were good, service was great, and the whole vibe was on point. Definitely coming back. Easy 5 stars. This was my first visit to Vitello's, as well for a lot of my friends. My friend found it as she was trying to figure out where she wanted to go for her birthday. So on Saturday night, a group of 7 of us took her here for her birthday, and booked our table in the Velvet Martini Lounge because she wanted to listen to the jazz. Mary was our server, and it started out promising, she greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. It went downhill from there. By the end of the night, the person refilling our water was the best service we got all night, because he came around regularly to check and refill our glasses. Since there were 7 of us, she got an automatic 20% gratuity, so maybe she didn't feel the need to work for her tip, but the service was appalling. The room was only half full, so I couldn't figure out an explanation for such bad service. Service: We had a friend show up late, and it took a long time to get someone's attention to bring a wine and water glass for her. I kept trying to wave someone down, or hoped that Mary would come check in, but no such luck. When the food arrived, they just dropped off the food and left, they didn't asked if I or anyone at the table wanted pepper or parmesan for our dishes, or needed anything else. My friend sitting across from me finally got someone's attention that was walking by to bring some pepper, and after doing her plate, he didn't ask if anyone else at the table wanted any. So I stopped him from leaving and asked the table if anyone else wanted pepper or parm. Myself and another friend wanted parm, but we were half way through our meals before it came. We were towards the end of the meal before Mary came back to check back on us, which is when we ordered another bottle of wine because all of our glasses were empty. Mary just brought it to the table, opened it and then walked off without refilling any of the glasses. For dessert, we ordered one dessert to share, and everyone decided we would do after dinner martinis. Mary took the order for 5 people at the table and left without taking my order or another friend's order for our martinis, so we end up having to wait until she came back with the other people's martinis to order ours. Food: It was bland, underwhelming and overpriced. I ordered the chicken piccata. The capers were the only thing that gave it flavor. The noodles did not taste fresh, almost rubbery. I ordered a chocolate martini, and the alcohol wasn't too overpowering, and it tasted just like drinking a dessert...best thing that I tasted from here the whole meal. We ordered bottles of the Montepulciano from their wine list, it was just okay, tasted like an overpriced table/ house wine. If you are a wine person, then I recommend bringing your own bottle and just paying the corkage fee. Bill: They don't hand you the bill, which is a surprise for such a big group. They didn't give us the printed bill until we asked for it after paying. So when I checked it over, I was surprised that on top of the 20% automatic gratuity, there was also a 3.5% kitchen appreciation fee. Which I was told by the hostess as we were leaving you can ask to have removed before paying your bill. Doesn't seem like there is any transparency for that fee. It definitely felt painful to pay 23.5% in tips/fees for such appallingly bad service. Jazz: Saving grace for this place, that's the one star. Saturday night they had a singer and a piano player. The singer's voice was beautiful and she took requests, so we requested La Vie en Rose before we left. She sang it in English vs. French, but she sang it beautifully. It's been around for over 60 years, evolving from a neighborhood sandwich shop into a Hollywood hangout, and today it has a lively, jazzy atmosphere complete with a speakeasy. The history alone makes it worth a visit. We sat outside, which was lovely, and the service was friendly and attentive. The Caesar salad was fantastic. The only thing that left a bad impression was the automatic 3.5% "Kitchen Appreciation Fee" added to the bill. I don't mind paying more for great food or supporting restaurant staff, but I don't like surprise fees that aren't obvious until the check arrives. If the cost of doing business has gone up, I'd much rather see menu prices reflect that than have an extra charge automatically added at the end. I know they'll remove it if you ask, but it shouldn't come as a surprise in the first place. read more

After seeing the low score, I was a little worried but I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised and we enjoyed our experience. My husband made dinner reservations for the same day and when we got there we were seated right away. The inside is a bit dark and not as new as other places but it was clean and the service was amazing. Our server was always checking on us and so warm and friendly. Menu offers a lot of different options from pizza, pasta, chicken, beef and seafood options. Prices are average, nothing extreme. Once we put in our order, everything came out fairly quickly. Really cool spot with a spacious indoor seating area as well as a patio out front. The waitress was nice and answered all our questions regarding the menu. We opted for their sandwiches with salads on the side: the grinder and the chicken parmigiana. Both were exquisite in their own right. The grinder was full of fresh ingredients and the cuts of meat were delicious; served on a soft bread it truly was enjoyable. The chicken parmigiana might have been the favorite though. The chicken cutlet was soft, moist and full of flavor. The sauce was robust, and bursting with the tangy flavor of a traditional marinara sauce that was so comforting. We ordered a side of truffle parm fries which arrived well before the food which was kind of a bummer since we wanted to enjoy everything together but they were also tasty and generously topped with the seasonings. Their cocktails were refreshing and aesthetically nice which always makes it that much more of a special treat. No dessert as we were completely stuffed! Our first experience at Vitello was extremely disappointing. We ordered the calamari and shrimp appetizer, and the calamari was severely overcooked -- rubbery, chewy, and unpleasant. Both the calamari and shrimp also had a strange egg yolk-like taste. After eating a few pieces, I decided to stop because something clearly tasted off. Unfortunately, once I got home, I developed severe stomach pain, nausea, and ended up vomiting. It felt like food poisoning. I would strongly caution others against ordering the calamari/shrimp appetizer. My husband ordered a salad with chicken, and even the chicken was overcooked, very dry, and completely lacking flavor. I usually don't like to write bad reviews, but this time I had to. This facility claims to be no tipping/ optional tipping facility. They have a kitchen appreciation fee of 3.50 added to the bill. They state that customer can ask the server to remove it. 3.5% is not a big deal. My main issue is the discrepancy between my bill and suggested tipping at the bottom of my bill. When the server handed me the card reader the tipping option started at 20%, 22% and etc. at the bottom of receipt suggested tip start @2%. I find this being dishonest and taking advantage of customers. Either make sure your recipe matches with suggested tipping or just put 20% tipping on your receipts. If you wonder, why I didn't say anything to our server, it is because as I was paying my CC bill I noticed discrepancy. For food, I can say food was really good. We really enjoyed our food. For ambiance, restaurant is nice and looks modern. It was very clean and well maintained. Our server was nice and friendly. She kept checking on us. I made a reservation through 'Resy' while in town visiting. My husband and I were absolutely blown away by this place. We ordered garlic knots, mussels, halibut and chicken piccata. It was also my birthday and restaurant went above and beyond to have a little birthday placard and offer a cannoli with a birthday candle. Our sever was extremely attentive (although I don't remember her name, she was on-top of everything from checking in on us, refilling drinks and clearing plates.) everything was served in a very reasonable time and we never felt rushed. My husband is a tough food critic and he was absolutely in love with each dish he was served. His halibut melted in your mouth and everything tasted like it was straight from Italy. We also went a little crazy and ordered additional dessert options because.... Why not? The Banana cake, tiramisu, and a scoop of gelato were all divine. Stopped in for a nightcap and some desserts. They closed at 10pm which we arrived an hour before closing. Saturday night, valet was packed but the restaurant itself wasn't that busy. Majority of the people seemed to be upstairs versus the main dining area. Lorenzo who took care of us was very sweet. Friendly and very attentive to everything. We didn't look through the menu as we just had dinner. Nightcap, had the espresso martini and Irish coffee. That Irish coffee really packs a punch with the first sip. Storing and tasty. Espresso martini was ok. For the sweet tooth, a slice of the brown butter banana cake which had a drizzles of balsamic that was quite nice. One of our group wasn't too fond of the pairing but in my opinion, it was quite nice and went well together. Also had a cannelloni, quite nice with the creme and chocolate chips. Service was great, Lorenzo took very good care of us. Vibe was nice and chill later on in the evening. It's been a while since I was last here for dinner so to be back for a nightcap, it was great. I had been wanting to try this long-established restaurant in my neighborhood for a long time, especially because it has been serving the community for many years. Because of that, honestly, my expectations were quite high. We chose this restaurant tonight for a birthday dinner. I asked our server if they offered anything complimentary for birthdays. The response I received was, "If you order dessert, I can put a candle on it." For a restaurant with such a long history, how much could a small scoop of ice cream or a thin slice of cake possibly cost? I also work at a restaurant, and we always try to make our guests' special occasions a little more memorable by offering a small gesture. It's a way of showing appreciation for choosing us and contributing to their special moment. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant--it's the thought behind it that matters. Unfortunately, the food itself was also quite disappointing. There was nothing particularly special about any of the dishes we ordered. The Wild Mushrooms Pasta only started to have some flavor after I added black pepper. The Tujuguna Pizza was just an ordinary pizza that you could find almost anywhere, and in my opinion, it was definitely not worth $22. Most of the toppings were concentrated in the center, while there was a lot of empty dough around the edges. There was nothing "special" about this pizza. And finally, the Aperol Spritz was listed as $16 on the cocktail menu, but we were charged $17 on the bill. The restaurant's website still lists it as $16. How does something like this happen? I understand that $1 may not seem like a big deal, but it's the principle. It gives the impression of, "What's another dollar? The customer will pay it anyway." Just like the birthday response: "If they order dessert, we'll put a candle on it." And if they don't order dessert, then I guess they simply leave without any acknowledgment of their special occasion. For a restaurant with such a long history, I expected much better--not necessarily expensive complimentary items, but better hospitality, attention to detail, and a genuine effort to make guests feel valued. Met a friend for a relaxing lunch and not at all disappointed at Vitello's, which I had not been to for years. Was unsure whether to sit outside or inside, so was offered the perfect solution, seated by the wide-open sliding windows. It was not busy this Tuesday so the quiet afternoon was enjoyed. Very clean place including restrooms. Service was quite good -- not interruptive but appropriately attentive. I order a tuna sandwich with salad. I was dismayed when fries were served rather than salad, but a salad was promptly delivered and the fries were left, so we enjoyed some of them. A first-class way to address a small mistake. The tuna sandwich and salad were excellent. (And the fries, too!) Very reasonable cost given the value provided. Hopefully it won't be years before I have the chance to visit Vitello's again. As someone who's dined here multiple times, this visit wasn't as smooth as usual. Service was much slower than expected our drinks and food took quite a while to come out. That said, the staff was great from start to finish. The two hostesses were welcoming, the busser kept our waters filled and checked on us, our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and took great care of us, and the food runners were friendly and made sure everything came out correctly. Even the owner stopped by to check on tables. They seem to need more staff on busy nights. The tables are also very close together, so it can feel a bit crowded when the restaurant is busy. I'd like to come back to Vitello's to try one of their pasta dishes, so it's likely I'll update my review in the future, hopefully with a better star rating. However, for my first time here, the three stars are for the overall experience, which was sullied due to the table at which we were seated. Upon making a reservation, be sure to request outdoor seating, which other reviewers seem to enjoy, or a WALL TABLE. They have several small tables smushed together in the centre of the room, giving the unfortunate diners placed there the unpleasant feeling of eating in a high school cafeteria. Even though we were prompt for our reservation and the dining room was mostly empty, we were plopped at a table for two in the middle of the room, closest to the kitchen and the host desk. I had a perfect view of a trolley of cleaning supplies, groups of other patrons waiting in the lobby for their tables, and, most cruelly, a roomful of empty tables with plenty of elbow room and comfy-looking bench seating. The hostess even had the audacity to say "here's your lovely table" before flitting away. I should have asked for a wall table right then, but I thought since it wasn't busy, it might be fine. There was no room for my purse, so I had to hold it on my lap under my napkin. I was privy to every mini staff meeting, since we were right next to the kitchen and they'd huddle and hiss with hushed whispers (or shout at each other over my head). Every person being seated at a better table paraded past me, invading my space. Whilst we were eating, the male host cleaned the table right next to ours. Not a little spritz and wipe down. He sprayed and scrubbed every inch of that glass top, circling the table multiple times, sticking his ass in my face as I was trying to enjoy my meal. Even if the people who dirtied the table were utter pigs and a meticulous deep-cleaning was necessary, couldn't it have waited until we left and both tables were empty? Other than the oblivious hosts, the service was friendly and efficient. Oh, yeah. The food. The garlic knots and marinara were pretty good, the lasagna was tasty, and the plate I ordered - recommended by another Yelper, the espresso-rubbed pork chop - was fine. Tender and juicy pork with an interesting burnt finish due to the rub, plus nice mashed potatoes and some mostly edible overcooked and over-seasoned broccolini (but don't ask me; I prefer just-barely-steamed, plain vegetables). My Aperol spritz was serviceable. If you drive there, keep on goin' past their silly little valet and turn down Woodbridge, then park on Kraft. Plenty of unmetered, no-restrictions street parking just a block away. read more

I was back once again with a few old friends from a time over thirty years ago that we toiled and bonded together in the world of business. For me this evening brought me home to the Rendition Room and the incomparable Scott. As usual we imbibed with Scott's rendition of dirty Gin martini's with the wonder of the right mixture of Gin and brine. The ladies in the party wen't drinking , but being hungry concentrated on the food menu. They decided on the delicious pan seared branzino , the stew like cioppino , and I had the lightly lemon flavoured shrimp scampi. All the dishes were fresh and appropriately as usual flavoured perfectly. The idea of each of us sharing each dish worked out as well. The food was brought out piping hot by Scott. As is the case the food here is made to order. Unlike a fast food establishment where the food is pre made and then placed under heat lamps this method made to order is the opposite of fast food and the difference is obviously noted in wonderful prepared Italian dishes shared by all. The great thing about bars is the not lost in time idea of congeniality. You gather there many times with a group of friends wrapped in the atmosphere of congenial pleasure. Scott the master mixologist as usual handled the room and the patrons with his usual friendly expertise. Every bar in this and other towns across America lend the idea of meeting with old and new friends with great expectations of wonderful evenings. Lots of indoor seating, offers lunch and dinner which is great. Quiet spot but don't be surprised if you spot a local celebrity ! Homemade ravioli is to die for, soups are so good, pizza is thin and cooked perfectly, carbonara so yum!! Salads are great! Cute date night spot, feels like authentic Italian. Ceasar salad was average, penne in pink sauce was totally flavorless with a weird sauce, eggplant parm sandwich tasted old on stale bland bread. It's like it was leftover from a couple weeks ago and they warmed it up. The truffle fries tasted like pure intensely pungent garlic and nothing else. There was also no bread included with my order. Extremely unhappy about wasting $70 on inedible food. The only positive aspect of my experience was the friendly employee who processed my payment. Easy valet parking. I went to happy hour, which is only at the main bar on the lower level where the main dining room is. This is a great happy hour because they have it seven days a week. From 3 to 6 PM. I enjoyed my cocktails, especially because they were made by an incredible bartender. Her name was Katie. She was on top of everything and so personable and friendly to everybody. She's worth the price admission alone. However, on a negative note the happy hour food choices is not very good at all nor does it taste very good . There were a few of us and we tried one of everything. If they were just to up the choices and quality of happy hour food... I would've given it five stars. I have been coming to Vitello's for years and Katie is hands down one of the main reasons I keep coming back. From the moment I met her she fit right in, and now every time I walk in, I'm thrilled to see her behind the bar. She's incredibly personable, attentive, and somehow always remembers the little details of my favorite martini. She makes every cocktail perfectly and always adds warmth to the bar. Even when the bar is busy, Katie stays calm, upbeat, and makes sure everyone is taken care of. I appreciate that she doesn't just serve drinks--she creates an experience. Very hit and miss experience. We were seated immediately in one of their new red leather booths, comfortable and beautiful. Then sat for 15 minutes being completely ignored. A sure sign of poor management. Had to inform the hostess and finally got service and many apologies. Cocktails and food were very good but nothing amazing. Then halfway through the meal we were asked to move to the bar area because our table was needed for their New Years event. Another rude inconvenience. After being treated this poorly, I was expecting some comps or free dessert or something... but no, only got the full bill. I've given Vitello's a good amount of business over the years but this was likely my final visit. read more

Wow! This place is great! I wish I could give it more stars. Overall service, environment, and quality of food was over the top amazing. I love that this place presents itself as fine dining but I felt totally comfortable bringing my 5 year old there because they didn't act like he was a bother. I love that they have a kids menu. I started with a mandarin avocado salad. This is the only food item I tried all night that I would have to say wasn't up to standards. The taste just wasn't there. For my entree I got the house ravioli with the butternut squash and the brown butter sage sauce. This was so good, the ravioli was so tender and the sauce was just superb, and it was super filling. I could not finish the whole plate. Of course I had to get dessert.They had so many things to choose from it was hard to choose. I opted for the cheesecake with fresh berries on top. Every bite was heavenly. This place was so good on all levels and I will be coming back. read more

I've been a patron for over 20 yrs... firstly out of macabre curiosity when I heard that this was the restaurant Robert Blake dined with that night... but I have continued to return because of the ambiance and the food. I've had wonderful date nights, meals with friends, Christmas Eve with my father.... today I dined with Vitellos for the final time as I leave LA ... enjoyed a nice brunch, oddly I didn't order any of the traditional items... simply enjoyed being with my friend .. and it was perfect.... I'm glad that I found Vitellos all those years ago... thank you for always looking after me when I dined there. Until next time.... read more

Ambience seems like I was eating at the Spaghetti Factory. Not authentic enough, lost its flavor. Disappointed with the restaurant since I'm from Italy. I guess it would okay if every other restaurant was booked. Service was okay, manager or hostess was a DICK. read more

Watch out for the check. Our party of four had a $9.50 " kitchen appreciation" charge. When asked about this charge, the waiter just said the charge was standard. I took much of it out of his tip. Now, from my credit card record, it appears that my tip was increased, without my knowing it. At the restaurant, I asked for a receipt, but after waiting for 10 minutes, I left. Food was OK. I cannot recommend Vitello's, and I will never return. read more

We had a great dinner at Vitello's, which is always the perfect spot for good food, cocktails and a laid back evening of conversation among friends. Our server was friendly and attentive, and skillfully juggled ours with several other tables, never dropping the ball or missing a beat. The place was Saturday night busy, and there was plenty of energy in the room, which felt festive without being chaotic. The fried calamari & shrimp appetizer was fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked, and the 2, slightly acidic sauces contrasted nicely with the richness of the fish. The artisan bread, really a freshly-baked, old school white Italian bread a la 1960's NYC, was spot on, and the accompanying truffle butter gave it a nice boost (though plain old butter would have been just as wonderful on this piping hot loaf). Entrees were top notch. My porcini rubbed filet mignon was cooked a perfect medium, and the combo of the rub and reduced sauce gave it a rich, Earthy flavor. My friends orders Cabonara, Eggplant Parm and Chicken Parm, all of which checked all the boxes, leaving everyone quite satisfied. Between the stellar food and some excellently crafted cocktails we were too stuffed for dessert -- but we'll leave room next time. And there will definitely be a next time very soon. read more

Not much to look at, but everything else about this place was top notch. The service was personal and excellent, with our service staying on top of everything we needed. The food selected, by our table of five, was a good cross-section of what was offered, and everything was delicious. I personally had the Stromboli and found it not only scrumptious, but filling, as I brought half of it home for lunch the next day. Great place, great prices and great service. That's gonna get five stars from me every time. read more

**Disclaimer....I don't enjoy writing reviews where I can't honestly give 4 and 5 stars** This review is soley based on my takeout "classic pepperoni" pizza I received today...and let me tell you, there was nothing classic about it. I was so disappointed...for a whopping $24 I was expecting at least average tasting pizza. It wasn't classic, it was basic and the lack of pepperoni is insulting...there might have need MAYBE 3-4 pepperoni cup pieces per slice, but that's me being generous (see photos) I don't know if this is their "norm" but honestly Vitello's should be embarrassed by what they put out of their kitchen today. read more
