Let me start by saying we definitely won't be back. This place has gone downhill tremendously. When we were seated, we sat there for 10 minutes and had to waive someone down to take our order. When we finally got our food, it was incorrect. When they corrected it, the biscuit was totally inedible - it was as hard as a hockey puck. And then we waited and waited and waited for anyone to check in on us, which never happened. And we had to go out of our way to waive someone down again to get the check. Let's start with the positives, it's great that you can check in advance via yelp's waitlist. Most of the servers were very friendly and helpful (which is why this is a 2 star not a 1 star) except for this one in particular that I will speak about later. Food (but not the main reason yet) - I've been here in the past and the food has always been pretty decent, but not today. The chilaquiles were "gray" and disappointing. Maybe 5 half pieces of chicken for an extra $4.99 charge and just mainly some beans and cheese on there. The Spanish frittata was basically half cheese. The layer of cheese was so thick and even as a cheese lover, that was too much. **But these aren't even the negatives that warranted such a low review. It was the action of one of the waitresses (I'm going to say she might be the owner). From the moment we sat down until the moment we got the check, the time that passed was exactly 22 minutes. Yes, I checked because I was in shock. She handed us the check saying "no rush", but that saying doesn't negate the action, the action has already been done. I get it, it's busy, but you can't even let me enjoy a nice brunch with my family on a holiday for more than 10 minutes? And yes it was about 10 minutes because there was the menu time, order time, water time, then food arriving time. Don't you think that's ridiculous? You got what you wanted, mission accomplished. I'm shocked at myself for even leaving a decent tip.** Also, there needs to be a better line-up system. Violent Rooster is the perfect place to go for brunch. We got the breakfast burrito with chorizo, homestyle potatoes, and country fried steak. Everything was so good. My favorite was the breakfast burrito. I've had so many different breakfast burritos in my life but never with chorizo. It was truly a game changer and I feel like I'll probably get chorizo every time in my burrito now. The restaurant has a very unique vibe inside but I really enjoyed it. Both portions were quite large with enough leftovers for a second meal. My wife enjoyed her sandwich. My breakfast potatoes were tasty and cooked just right. The scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked, but once I notified one of the servers, she had them make fresh eggs that were cooked just right. Huge biscuit. I very much enjoyed the food and ambiance of the place. It is decorated very appealing and has many eye catching details. I had the Dak attack and it was delicious! Light and fluffy with a mixture of cheese sausage and salsa that is just perfect. I would have given a 5 star rating but unfortunately my interaction with the waiter was less than favorable. There is a restaurant named Johnnie's Pastrami in LA. The basic breakfast was decent. However, my pastrami sandwich was not too good. No mustard on the regular bread and I had a green salad instead of fries. The ranch dressing was kind of watery also. There was tomato on the pastrami sandwich, a first that I have seen. I eat breakfast out a lot - 3-4 days a week. Most breakfast restaurants follow the same formula. A nice hostess greets you at the front door to either take your name if there is a wait or take you to an open table. Then, a server normally gets your coffee and takes your order. When I arrived this time, no one was at the check in station. I stood there for a couple of minutes before one of the 4 guys acknowledged me and pointed me towards an open table. After sitting there for about 5 minutes, I finally got up and walked back to the front counter to ask for a cup of coffee. A different guy wearing a baseball cap brought my coffee and took my order. My chorizo Benedict and the breakfast potatoes were very good but the service just wasn't good. I attend an annual event in the area so I eat here once a year. The food was amazing! So great to find such good food available in my neighborhood! As phenomenal as the food was, the service was even better! Conner checked in on me as I waited to be sat. Meanwhile, there were still multiple tables available for parties of 3 both inside and outside. I spoke with the manager, who agreed it was strange since we arrived first. He was polite and said he'd get a table ready for us inside. We waited another 10 minutes while the hostess continued calling other parties by name. When I finally went back inside, the manager told me our table had already been ready -- no one ever notified us. To be clear: the manager handled the situation professionally. The hostess was the issue -- misleading, disorganized, and failed at basic seating fairness and communication. This wasn't a space issue. It was poor judgment and worse service. Very disappointing experience and not somewhere I'll return. Way better options out there, wouldn't recommend. So nice, we did it twice! Violet Rooster is such a cute little spot! As others have mentioned, it is a small space so eating inside might not be for you if you prefer a more open concept. They do have outdoor seating, though. I loved my food! Good coffee, and the Carnitas Benedict was so tender and flavorful that I had to order an extra side of the meat to eat by itself. Lastly, the service was extremely pleasant. Genuinely nice, not forced, no hovering. It was just enough attention so that we felt taken care of but not crowded. read more
